I stayed in Sirmione for five nights to celebrate my 30th birthday. I was travelling alone so it was important to be somewhere welcoming and hospitable. Hotel Marconi was both these things. Perfectly positioned in the old town of Sirmione, their service is second to none. Their breakfast choices seem to have increased since earlier reviews. In addition to the cakes and slices made inhouse (I sampled a new one each day) there are the traditional cold meats and cheeses, cereals, yoghurt, a variety of rice/wheat crackers, jams (they were delicious!) and hot breakfast choices. They also offer you your own personal pot of coffee or tea – the coffee is some of the best I have tasted in my travels. I dined in the restaurant for dinner on a few occasions, including my birthday. They found me room outside so I could enjoy the sunset. The food and service is wonderful. I found most set menus in Sirmione were listed at 25 euros, however Hotel Marconi offered far better food and service than the other local restaurants I ate at. You can also have a lazy drink whilst enjoying the afternoon sun on deck (as I did!). They can assist you with any touring you would like to do, and suggest some sights to see. They were really helpful to me in this way. If you want a memorable stay – for all the right reasons – you must stay here. I will be back again.

Sirmione is very busy and touristy, but this hotel provides a very quiet respite from all the noise and crowds. Rooms on the lake, as ours was, provide a fantastic view. We recommend having dinner there at least once, the food is excellent.

Myself and my wife enjoy our stay very much. The hotel staff are very welcoming and helpfull. The hotel location is excelent as it is in the middle of the old town and resturants. The room was spaciousness but this is the only problem we found. The lake deck was lovely and refreshing after returning from a tour. The management Carlo and sister Shara were helpfull and lovely. We definitely will recommed the hotel to our friends WELL DONE

Once you get there through the narrow streets of Sirmione its a great place to stay. The breakfast cakes look better (on the picture and in real) than they taste. Nevertheless we will certainly come again.

The hotel is located in a lovely spot but unless you are staying in the small main building, the quality and surroundings leave much to be desired. One would have to crank your neck to get a view of the lake and were left facing directly into another building as well as being on level up from the laundry hanging floor We were awoken several times by banging doors and noisy hallways. We changed hotels after our second evening and for 30E more a day, found a superior hotel in a premium spot with full lake view balcony along with a better breakfast and much better surroundings.

We spent 5 days in Sirmione and really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Marconi. We were made very welcome and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean but the furniture had no charm. The room was quite noisy and we could hear the people in other rooms or in the public areas. Wireless Internet is available in the room and free. The breakfast is excellent with a lot of different home-made cakes. The breakfast room has a nice view to the lake. Not all the hotel staff is speaking English. Therefore communication might be difficult. From the English-speaking staff, we have got a lot of good daily trip advices. And a cake, as present when checking out. Since the hotel is located in the historical center, it is accessible by car only at given times and by driving through the crowd of tourists.

The Hotel Marconi is inside the gate for the town center. A little hard to find because of the single lane roads, but well worth the effort! The staff was excellent, the location convenient to everything, and their veranda a delightful place for breakfast as you viewed the beauty of lovely Lake Garda. While the rooms are a little small and spare, the ambience and service more than compensate. This was the best value for our money!

For us the whole Marconi experience was over and beyond what we had expected. We rang the hotel and asked them to arrange the transfer from Verona airport which they did at a very reasonable rate with a super taxi company. We used them again during our holiday. The family and staff at the hotel could not have been more welcoming and helpful and we were not surprised to see guests booking their next holiday there before they left. The location of the hotel in Sirmione is ideal with access to the lake at the back and to shops and restaurants at the front and only a short walk from the ferry quay. We were staying in the main hotel which has a small lift to 1st and 2nd floors. Lunch and dinner are served at set times at the hotel as well as the magnificent breakfast which is available between 7 and 10.

I really liked the hotel. Very well located - in the center of the town. Clean and accurate. The only problem - there is no lift, but they will happily help you with luggage. Very tasty breakfast was included. Pastry was just fantastic!!!! Personal was very helpful and friendly. Helped to pick luggage, gave maps, explained everything. Very good service!!! Lounge and terrace are nicely decorated with beautiful pictures. You can swim from the hotel and sunbath without leaving hotel. My stay in this hotel was very pleasant. Recommend this hotel to everyone !!!

The Hotel is wonderfully situated directly on the lake shore in the centre of Sirmione. It has its own terrace leading down to the lake and it is possible to swim and sunbathe on loungers on its own landing stage or sit on one of the sofas, loungers, swings (adult)and have a drink. It is just a few minutes walk to the lovely town centre and the ferry terminal. The reception and Lounge bar were comfortable places to sit and the good buffet breakfast could be eaten in the conservatory or outside on the terrace overlooking the lovely lake. The room was decent and basic being at the side of the building with a side view of the lake. It had a very small balcony, a comfortable bed, adequate flat pack type storage, air conditioning and a small flat panel TV. The shower room was clean and adequate. The huge bonus of the stay apart from the beautiful location was the friendly helpful manager Carlos and his lovely Mum, Dad and sister who run the hotel as a family. There was a welcoming pot plant, extra pillows and a kettle were provided when asked for, loads of helpful advice, and a cake as a farewell present, really made to feel welcome.

Great place to stay and a beautiful town. The 1 problem is driving to the hotel. The streets around the hotel are for pedestrians only and guests of the hotel need to check with the local police to get permission to drive on them. This is not difficult but driving in the middle of hundreds of pedestrians in a little complicated.

Very nice hotel in excellent location right in Sirmione village. The hotel is on the lakefront and has a nice outside area beside the lake to relax. Lovely breakfast available in the morning and you can sit in the veranda with a lovely lake view. All staff we came across at the front desk and elsewhere were extremely pleasant and helpful. They recommended excellent restaurants, and gave us a very nice gift (a freshly baked cake) when we were leaving! Happy to recommend this hotel.

Location exceptional, right in the heart of the fun shopping/dining areas with an excellent terrace on the lake. Having it's own parking lot made it exceptionally convenient to pull into it and get out of the heavy pedestrian traffic the day we arrived. Met some very nice people watching the sunset on the lake with me.

Incredible value for the price - 140 Euros for a triple in May, 2009 on internet. Outstanding location in the heart of the historical city. The drive into the historic area to get to the hotel is a little unnerving (one lane with people all over the street) but once there you park the car in the hotel lot (for free) and won't need it again as the location is on the main throughfare of shops and on the water as a backdrop. The breakfast is gourmet and includes eggs, bacon, fresh squeazed orange juice, etc. Very peaceful and serene. Room was adequate for a triple as this was a family trip. Friendly and helpful staff. You will enjoy this hotel. I will definitely return.

Our stay at Hotel Marconi was very satisfying. We stayed in a comfortable double room on the top floor, overlooking the lake. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with a large variety of pastries and cakes, sliced ham, cheese, croissants, fruit, yogurt, breads, scrambled eggs, bacon & mini sausages. There was even a machine for making fresh orange juice. The hotel is situated in an excellent location and is very close to the Terme di Sirmione spa as well as the many shops and restaurants. We would like to extend a special thanks to Carlo for all of his assistance and wonderful suggestions for sightseeing in the area.

This was our first time at the Marconi and we would defintely stay there again. All of the staff we encountered were really friendly and welcoming and the reception staff spoke excellent English. Our room was small but very clean and quiet, it was on the side and we still had an excellent view of the lake. We were given a departing gift of a home made cake, nice touch I thought. There was no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which seemed to be normal for the area so not exclusive to the Marconi but we were disappointed about this, it's the only negative I can think of. We stayed 3 nights in Sirmione attending our friends wedding so we only had one full day to explore by ourselves and really that's all you need, we walked around the whole peninsula (island) from the fort entrance and back and it took about an hour. The views from the highest tower in the fort entrance were great. It would be a good base for exploring further afield, eg. Venice, Verona, Milan. I read in the hotel literature that there was an hourly bus that went to the local train station every day so if you don't have a hire car getting around shouldn't be a problem.

We thought the hotel was very nice indeed. The service was excellent and the location was perfect. The breakfast was delicious. However, we had ants in our room and the problem didn't seem to get sorted. Also, the hotel is in the heart of the old town, with it's beautiful tiny cobbled streets, but the distbin men make a loud racket every morning at 4am! I would recommend it though because the pros outweigh the cons.

This was an excellent & relaxing stay in a lovely & extremely friendly hotel. The proprietor Carlo could not have been more friendly & helpful; he lived up to all the enthusiastic comments we'd read about him & was ready every day with helpful suggestions (several of which we followed) about places to visit, walks etc. A good tip is the walk up the river valley from Maderno past lots of disused paper-mills; the hike to the start of the walk from the boat stop (appx 20 mins) is rather tedious but, once off the main road, the hike quickly becomes very pleasant, going up through a valley which evolves into a gorge & can be followed for a long way. Being able to travel to lots of different places on the lake by boat (the boat stop only appx 5 mins' walk from the hotel) was a real plus. We'd decided to travel from London by train (something we'd recommend highly) & never felt the need for a car; indeed we wouldn't have wanted to try to drive Sirmione's very narrow streets. Another wonderful aspect was being able to swim directly from the hotel's own landing stage; very relaxing & cooling after the heat of the day. Since the hotel faces west, we were able to enjoy the sunsets, sometimes whilst swimming. Our only (minor) reservations were about breakfast (though the views from the breakfast room over the lake were superb). Whilst the array of homemade biscuits/ cakes etc is almost breathtaking, it does seem rather more suited to tea than breakfast. We'd have preferred at least some fresh fruit (the only available fruit was tinned) and some sugar-free fruit juice. All in all, a very relaxing & enjoyable holiday in a superb & very good value for money hotel.

Fantastic hotel in a beautiful location. All other hotels in the castle part of Sirmione are a lot more expensive for not a great deal more. Staff are very helpful - even the cats are friendly. Thoroughly recommended!!!! By the way the cheapest way to get to Sirmione from Verona airport is as follows: 1) Take the bus to Verona Stazione from the airport (it leaves directly from in front of the door you leave the airport at, departs every 20 mins, takes about 15 mins and costs just over 4 euro each. 2) At Verona Stazione go to bus stop 11 (right in front of the bus information building) and get the bus there (only one bus number stops at each stop so you wont get the wrong bus). The journey costs 4 euro each and takes just over an hour - the journey is quite pleasant and gives you a feel for Peschiara as you drive through there which is nice. 4) The other 2 ways are by train from the Stazione to Peschiara (twice an hour) and then lug your bags to the port (about 15 mins on foot) and get either the same bus you would have got from the Verona Stazione or the ferry. A taxi from Verona airport to Sirmione is 65 euro!!! Enjoy, ciao

The decor at the Marconi was the nicest of the hotels we visited on this trip. It was elegant and clean. We had a nice view over the lake, and the air conditioning worked well. The staff were friendly and helpful and our stay was generally quite pleasant. Breakfast was also very good. If you drive to the hotel, you need to show your reservation papers to the guard at the entrance to the old city to be allowed entrance in a vehicle. Be prepared for a harrowing drive through extremely narrow one-way pedestrian-filled streets. We had to stop for directions from several people to find the hotel. Once you have your car at the hotel, you will be reluctant to drive out until you leave, so this is a downside of staying at this hotel if you want to do a lot of touring of the lake Garda area. There are huge numbers of tourists in the old city so if you are allergic to lots of people, stay elsewhere. The Grottos of Catulla are well worth the visit and the old fortress is quite scenic, but otherwise there are just lots of crowds. You can swim in the lake off the pier at the Marconi, but the water is about 7 feet deep and there is a lot of swell from boats so it is not good for kids and there is no good public beach on the peninsula. In retrospect, we would probably have better enjoyed staying at one of the hotels not on the peninsula with a pool. Still, if you want to be in the thick of things, the Marconi is a very nice hotel and good value for money.

The first thing that struck me about Hotel Marconi is the location is arguably the best in Sirmione, right in the 'old town' with great lakeside views. I also very much liked the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. They really made you feel part of the family! A special mention must also go to the breakfast, absolutely fantastic!! In all, I have holidayed all over Europe and to 6 Italian cities alone and would rate my stay at the Hotel Marconi and Sirmione as the best holiday I have ever had.

We stayed in Marconi for 5 nights at the beginning of July and it was the perfect end to a 2 week trip around Italy. The hotel is in an excellent location in Sirmione - right on the lake side and in the centre of the town. Our room didn't overlook the lake but the views were still wonderful. The staff and family at the hotel were great and did everything they could to make our stay absolutely wonderful. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone and I'll definitely be going back!!

Staff are very welcoming and helpful. Initially allocated room 7, but changed as it is a side room on 1st floor and cannot see lake due to tree growth. Moved to room 12 on 2nd floor which was much larger with direct view to lake and second balcony to side. It took 2 nights to achieve change, as only a small hotel and fully booked. However, staff were very courteous and moved us as soon as possible. Would recommend that you ensure you can have one of the 6 rooms directly facing the lake (4,5,6,12,14,15), rather than a side room, especially those on 1st floor due to lack of view and the noise from adjacent room (design is such that next room's bathroom is on same wall as your bedroom and as such is very noisy - in Room 7 anyway) Breakfast is included and is fine, the usual fare. Did not have dinner there as there are many restaurants within a few yards. Highly recommend La Roccia ! €9 for 1 litre carafe, and excellent seafood at reasonable prices. This was our 4th visit to Sirmione, and provided you get one of the rooms mentioned I would recommend Marconi, though our favourite remains Hotel Olivi.

The Marconi is an excellent hotel in a great spot on the lakeside. Access was exciting as driving on to the isthmus on a busy Sunday afternoon and finding the hotel is a challenge. Thankfully parking was available which seemed to be quite rare for hotels in the area. Remember to have a copy of your reservation to show the local police to gain access to the historical centre, and have a good clear map of the streets because a number of them are one way. The staff were extremely helpful and cheerful, and most rooms have a great view of the lake, although our balcony was miniscule. The outside area on the lake was a lovely place to sit and watch the ducks. We highly recommend the Marconi.

Out of the 3 hotels my wife & I stayed at during our honeymoon in Italy, Hotel Marconi was not only the best, it was an outstanding experience. Carlo, whose parents own the hotel, is a fantastic, warm, welcoming and helpful front desk/concierge who consistently went out of his way to help us during our 4-night stay. The property is impeccably clean, beautiful inside & out, and the food/service was wonderful. All staff members were professional, courteous and all guests seemed as content as we were. We highly recommend Hotel Marconi - look no further, you've found your home away from home.

This was our first visit to Sirmione. The town is very pretty and interesting, if a bit pricey. The Roman ruins at the tip of the peninsula are very impressive. We found Hotel Marconi to be a charming place to stay, very peaceful, and the excellent breakfast in the lovely conservatory set us up for the day. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was a bit cramped for the three of us. We thoroughly recommend Hotel Marconi.

An ideal location for a 2day rest on the way to Venise. The proximity to Verona. What is really worthwhile is being within the ramparts of this lovely little town (during the quiet season at least). Also appreciated the fact that the hotel is small and gives directly on to the lake.

Situation of the hotel can't fail to delight but the property could do with some money spending on it - a bit jaded we felt. noise from surrounding rooms significant however a pervading smell of baking cakes helped to draw attention from the negatives. the family who own and run the place were welcoming, friendly and helpful.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in when you consider the balance of cost, location and most of all service. The family could not be more helpfull and I will go back again and again. The hotel is easy to find if you follow the instructions but driving in Sirmione is not for the nervous. You have to try this hotel.

Four of us (two rooms) stayed for six nights at the Marconi in October. It exceeded our every expectation. The rooms were comfortable, the lakeside setting more beautiful than the website showed, and the level of hospitality and personal service were among the best we have ever experienced in many years of travel. We would recommend this charming family-run hotel to anyone traveling in that part of Italy. It is worth a detour. For mature travelers, the existance of an elevator is a plus. The breakfasts and dinners we had in their restaurant were also among the best we had in our month of travel in Italy. I recommend that travelers request a lakefront rather than a side room if one is available in this very popular inn. Both the views and the balcony are worth the difference in price.

Carlo was an exceptional host. The breakfast assortment was the best ever. The ambiance was terrific. We want to return, but next time we want a frontal room facing the lake. We stayed two days, but wished we could have stayed longer.

I've just returned from a wonderful 3 nights at the Marconi. I've stayed in some nice (Venere recommended) hotels all over Italy and this is one of the friendliest and loveliest I've ever stayed in. The location in Sirmione really couldn't have been bettered, within easy reach of the whole town, 3 minutes from the ferry stop and 5 from the bus stop (we got the bus to Verona - one hour away - from here, thanks to advice from reception). All the staff were friendly and helpful and when we asked to extend our stay by two nights we were told that they were full but we could still come back and use their facilities if we needed to, eg internet. Our double room, although fairly small, was spotlessly clean and comfortable as was the bathroom, and we had a small(ie room for 1 person at a time) balcony which had a side view of the lake. The fabulous breakfast was served in the sun room overlooking the lake, and although it poured down when we were there so we didn't use them, there were plenty of sunloungers at the back of the hotel and on the private jetty. We truly had a wonderful experience at the Marconi and the Visani family and their staff were a major part of that. We wouldn't hesitate to return and would recommend it to everyone.

My husband and I had a superb week at the Hotel Marconi. The Visani family could not have been more welcoming. We ate dinner at the hotel on 3 occasions and the food was excellent. Breakfast was amazing and the 20 or so cakes excellent. Sitting on the terrace at any time was wonderful. A wonderful and very trelaxing hotel.

We stayed in hotel Marconi while on our honeymoon in Italy and were delighted we chose this hotel. It was the friendliest hotel we have ever stayed in and would have no hesitation in recommending it to people. It is a family run hotel and each member of staff goes out of their way to help you with anything. The hotel was very clean throughout. The central location of the hotel gives residents quick access to a large number of restaurants and public facilities. There is an elevator operating over the two floors of the hotel which was used regularly by elderly guests but it may not be big enough for a wheelchair. The breakfast and dinner at the hotel were excellent. It was like a home away from home and we would definitely stay here again.

Lake Garda is very busy in the Summer: and Sirmione is the main honeypot, so only come if you like crowds! The hotel is in a good location, on the Lake shore, and provided you get down early enough, you stand an evens chance of getting a sun lounger. Try to find the exact location of the hotel before you enter the castle gates, since the Police are very hot on giving out tickets, and it's a nightmare driving through the hostile crowds of pedestrians if you don't know exactly where you are going. Good luck!

An excellent stay in a well-managed hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the family owners who takegreat pride in their unpretentious and very pleasant hotel. Breakfasts were excellent with many cakes, pastries and other enticing items baked on the premises. The lakeside hotel terrace is beautiful and relaxing during the day and oool in the evening breeze off the water. The Marconi is a convenient and quiet haven in a beatutiful but heavily visited town which is a rather over-run at the height of the tourist season. It is also highly convenient for water travel around Lake Garda.

The service at this hotel is exceptional, with great assistance given for anything that is needed. The hotel is in a perfect location. The only slight downside is that noise travels within the hotel, so you hear other people coming and going to their rooms, and bathroom noise etc from the room next door. This wasn't a major problem as the hotel was not busy very late in the season, but may be more noticeable during peak season.

Wonderful hotel with very considerate and helpful staff and as others have commented, the breakfasts were very good indeed. We had a wonderful two nights and would come back again; we've recommended to our daughter to try. Ideal spot to explore Sirimone from and the lakes in general as nothing is really too far away. Only drawback was that the room (7) was a bit on the 'neat' (small) side and unfortunately I could hear the next room use the bathroom very clearly! That said, I'd still recomment it very highly.

Very nice hotel, very cute area Front counter employee was very friendly and made us feel very at home. Even gave us flowers in our room and a giant cookie at out departure Tip for anyone going here by car: the hotel is on the north side of the castle and you must obtain permission to go through the castle with your car. We were unaware of this so had a bit of a tough time finding the hotel.

We can't find anything to complain about with Hotel Marconi. Everything was lovely, but the family who run the place were especially sweet. I was travelling alone on a photography trip visiting Venice and the lakes I only booked for 2 nights wish I had time to stay longer. I would definately make a point of returning to Marconi. The welcome was second to none, nothing is too much trouble they will serve you drinks on the terrace or by your lounger on the jetty to the lake with tapas(a meal in itself for me) and the buffet breakfast was worth paying to see let alone to eat....the selection of pastries and cakes was mouthwatering along with the usual cereals yohgurts meats etc.The setting of the hotel is perfectly enchanting I was happy to leave my car stationary for the duration(advisable in the height of summer, I would suggest if you need to use your car go out early and return late to miss the day trippers meandering in front of you or you'll need all your patience to negotiate the few yards) the ferries to Garda, Salo etc are an excellent way to explore the other towns on the southern end of the lake. Sirmione is a magical place with the breathtaking views from the castle and the picture oportunities from the Roman ruins although not accessable until 8.30am even tried bribing to get in at 6.00am for the sunrise but had to make do with the olive trees which have turned out to be an absolute bonus. At the time of writing this review I have only just returned with thousands of photographs so it will be a few months before I'll have these organised and uploaded onto my website but give it a try www.shiningimagegallery.com if you would like to see more images of the hotel and the area contact me direct for others that I'm unable to display on the site kathy@shiningimagegallery.com

The hotel is in an excellent location, the best in Sirmione. Its terrace has steps which lead straight down into the Lake. There is a ferry service a short (less than 5 minutes) from the hotel which takes you across the lake. The breakfast was extensive and well laid out, lots to choose from. We read all the positive feedback and booked this hotel as part of our honeymoon, however there were a few drawbacks. The room we had was small (as normal a lot smaller than the one on the website). The most annoying thing was that in house cleaning started at 8.30am and with the hoovers and brooms bashing against the tiled floors, there was no chance of a lie in! Still, a pleasant stay, just had to catch up on some zzzz's when we got home!

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. All the staff were friendly and welcoming and the gentleman who was at the desk spoke excellent English and was very helpful with such things as train times etc (we went to Venice by train and in retrospect might have chosen not to hire to a car had we planned a little better since most of the places we wanted to visit were easily accessible by train). Parking was not a problem during March but might be a little more so during the height of the season although the reception staff were happy to retain keys and shuffle double parked vehicles if necessary. The breakfasts were glorious with healthy cereals and fruit and somewhat less healthy but delicious cakes. We liked being in the centre of a small town and there were a wide range of restaurants literally a stone's throw from the hotel. Sirmione is in a lovely situation and you feel somewhat exclusive arriving by car and being allowed past the barrier at the entrance to the town (make sure you have your booking details with you to show the security attendant at the gate). I would love to return to the area and would not hesitate to stay at the Hotel Marconi again.
