We stayed 5 nights in late Oct.in a splendid double room in the Villa. This was our first visit. The location was perfect, the grounds surrounding the Villa gave room for walks on the property also providing superb views toward Chianti. The staff were fluent in English and service perfect! The food service was professional but the food was unimaginative and overpriced. We ate our evening meals in Siena.

The hotel grounds are spectacular. The location is exactly what I was looking for, being just a little bit outside of town. But I'm sure even 15-20 years ago it was much more isolated than it is today. Yes, breakfast is kind of interesting when you have to get served by the breakfast cart rather than being able to just go to a buffet table and select what you would like, but it is something that makes this hotel unique. While the hotel has a bus stop literally just outside the front gate for getting into the city, this hotel is really most optimal if you plan to have a car in order to see Tuscany. This is the perfect hotel to be able to spend one day sight-seeing in Tuscany and the next enjoying dolce fare niente (sweet doing nothing). The service staff are all very willing to help and have most of the common questions pre-answered. FYI, there is a self-service laundromat right next to the COOP supermarket in San Miniato (there are many road-signs pointing you right to the COOP). The room walls conduct sound too well though, so be prepared and be considerate. The only other thing that is a slight drawback to this hotel's location is that there isn't a lot of restaurant options near the hotel and the hotel dinner is very good but very formal and not cheap.

We really enjoyed our short stay with Villa Scacciapensieri. Their staff were friendly and accommodating in every way. The food and wine we had at the restaurant was amazing with silver service -very rare these days. The hotel also has a good atmosphere and old worldly charm that we found perfect for our Tuscan experience.

- Room in "Villino" was poorly sound-proofed. - Hotels statement "our breakfast is neither continental nor buffet" is true. It's neither diversified as usually a buffet is nor is it comfortable as a continental served at the table. Waiter serves from a trolley walking around. You have to wait for next coffee as long as he is serving at another table. You have to ask for every single piece. A lot of common things are extra charged. - Garden well-tended. - 20Euros/night for a garage is to much.

If you want to stay outside of all the activity and have a nice, comfortable, quiet place to relax....this is it! We were on the move in Rome and Venice and spent four days in between here at the Villa. Only a short distance from Sienna, we were able to go in to town to sight see and for meals....be sure to eat at least one night at the restaurant on site.... it is fabulous. We also booked a wine tour that picked us up right at the Villa. Very enjoyable. In between, we relaxed, read our books, sipped wine and enjoyed the down time. The Villa was perfect! The double bed is a real double -- no twins pushed together. Rooms are spacious. Staff was very helpful. We really enjoyed staying here.

We had a very pleasant stay at Scacciapensieri. Food is AMAZING at Altri Tempi Ristorante and surroundings are probably one of the most beautiful venues in the world. Staff is perfect and Caroline at the front desk deserves a very special greeting. Scacciapensieri at Siena is the perfect base to discover all Tuscan secrets they hold there so quietly.

We spent a weekend in Siena and wanted to get a little taste of Tuscany. The hotel was more than expected and the garden beautiful. We decided to eat the Saturday night dinner at the hotel`s restaurant and that was a great choice. The food was excellent and the service lovely. I can really recommend it! I would love to return for the hotel during the summer months and test the hotel`s tennis court and swimming pool. What a perfect weekend getaway place. ;o)

There are two remarks to be made: the spaciousness of the rooms in the subbuildings might be better; the quality of offers with breakfast, whereas you have to pay for scrammbled eggs and fresh fruit does not meet up with a four stars restaurant( in all other aspects( dinner, quality of food, services were excellent)

The hotel and its gardens are very special - very peaceful and relaxing. The restaurant, both the food and the people, were outstanding. The combination of the hotel, its position, gardens, the restaurant and the people made this a special experience. In particular the maitre d' was superb and a credit to the hotel.

We can't say enough about our stay here. The grounds are beautiful, the staff beyond helpful and the food at the in house restaurant was among the best we had throughout our entire trip. We chose to end our vacation in Siena and were so glad. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time at Villa Scacciapensieri. We absolutely plan on going back as soon as we can~

While we traveled before the rush of tourists, we were given a choice of three rooms. The room we chose overlooked the garden out one window and the hills of Tuscany on the deck. Absolutely wonderful!! The property is manicured and gorgeous and the Hotel restaraunt may have been the best meal of the two week trip. During high season the rooms are probably twice as expensive but treat yourself to a night or two of special treatment if in the area. Buses run from the hotel gate into Siena every half hour or so and the hotel even sells you the tickets (abt. 1 euro each). Truly a highlight of our trip as weather was perfect and the Tuscan sun warmed our heads and Tuscan wine our bellies.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were helpful and the dinners were superb, if somewhat pricey. We used the public transport to get into the old town center which was easy, cheap and convenient. If we find ourselves in Siena in the future we would definitely stay here again.

We were really amazed by how excellent the Hotel and the staff were. The surroundings were extremely beautiful, everything was perfect, Sienas location in Tuscany, closeness to various winefarms we should visit , and easy access with bus to the city of siena. We had booked for one night but stayed 3 ! Even the pool was fantastic in october, though a bit chilly ! Reason for visiting Siena was a round trip of Tuscany and visit to various winefarms. The hotel met all our possible wishes. Thank you.

A lovely stay! We had only two criticisms: the Villa was fairly far fromn the city centre and the bus journey (particularly back) was crowded and difficult - and the bar area in the Villa was a bit cold and unwelcoming. Apart from that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Villa!

The grounds at the Villa were beautiful, the pool was lovely and of a decent size, and the staff was very helpful and gracious. We are in our 30s and felt a little young there. We did not really love our room - for the price, it didn't feel particularly special. Additionally, there were a few minor inconveniences. One, my 6 foot tall husband hit his head a few times in the loft bedroom. Two, we couldn't open the windows without mosquitos and bees coming in and as a result we couldn't really enjoy the view of the garden because we had to keep the shutters closed.

Good accommodation in tranquil and peaceful surroundings and yet within easy reach of Sienna, Chianti etc made this a perfect base for a holiday. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful and can arrange many different visits and excursions. The hotel has a traditional and pleasantly old fashioned feel to it which greatly added to our enjoyment of it. Definitely one to return to!

Loved loved loved this hotel!!! So charming. Breathtaking location! Pictures don't do it justice. Gives you a true taste of Tuscany. Lovely staff - so accomodating. Great restaurant on property, although a bit pricey for lunch. Dinner was worth it. Breakfast is included and is excellent. Nice pool. They arranged a great wine tour for us, which we highly recommend. About 10 euro taxi ride from downtown Siena, which we found was worth it, otherwise you can take a public bus. We loved our stay!!!! Highly recommend this hotel.

This villa is located on a hill overlooking vineyards, they have amazing views. Our room was exceptionally clean and very comfortable, for the little time that we spent in it. The grounds are beautiful, the pool, the outdoor dining area, indoor dining. If you want to be pampered and enjoy a classy, relaxing stay this is the place to be. The staff here were exceptional. The villa is also well situated as a base for visiting Sienna and the hill towns. As much as we enjoyed visited the tuscan country side we looked forward to relaxing by the pool just before having an excellent dinner at the villa.

My wife and I stayed here for one week as part of our three week Italian holiday, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. This hotel, in all aspects, is a true treasure. A great place to stay! I spent one week here alone to have a rest and it was wonderful: the house and the rooms are beautiful (I was in a single room in the villa), the garden is very nice to read and relax, and the restaurant is of very high quality. The photographs of this villa do not do it justice! It is more beautiful than shown. The villa is nestled on top of a hill overlooking Tuscany. They have beautiful gardens with fresh herbs, roses, and fruit (lemons and lime trees). Peacocks are also on the grounds and were outside of my villa building. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxed get-away from the cities (my wife and I traveled via car from Florence) then this is the place! There was only one issue with the hairdyer in the room (the standard European tube attached to a wall unit). The thing quit after maybe a minute of operation. We were given a portable hairdryer within minutes of notifying the front desk. The villa is minutes from Siena and the local bus picks up at the end of the villa's driveway. Parking is a nightmare in Siena so definetely take the bus. The villa has ample FREE parking. I wish I had a week at this place! I would definetely stay here again.

Splendid Villa, however the improvements are "trapped in the 60's",with limited soundproofing between rooms. Service from staff was professional and outgoing. Location is ideal for accessing Chianti region, and a short 8 Euro cab ride to the "Campo". Breakfast is served from a cart by a very professional waiter, however, the ingrediants are very basic. Additional breakfast offerings are available from the breakfast menu. Rooms were clean, however, "just O.K.". Three star in category and not up to the standard of the balance of the facility. Note: we were located in the "out building", perhaps the main building is of higher quality? Landmarks: We love Italy and all of it's amazing landmarks and vistas, but if you care to see the most ugly building in Italy, it is a hospital located 1 KM from the hotel, don't worry, you can't miss it!

Superb accommodations and service. The well healed crowd figured out as we just did, that this is an elegant retreat for travelers going to see Siena for a day or just enjoying the beautiful Italian countryside. Dinner and breakfast were delicious with tremendous attention to details and quality of food. Front desk staff were helpful and gracious making us feel welcome in this special villa. We had a lovely room overlooking formal gardens and could sit on a sofa and soak up the afternoon sun. Many shady and sunny outside rooms allow for quiet enjoyment. Perfect all around and we would come back in a minute.

It was the first time. We were realy delighted! Rooms, surroundings, staff, restaurant (and especially the "chef"). The bus service to the town center was well organized, but unfortunately that day there was an unknown problem for the return fare and no information was available at the bus station. But this has nothing to do with the hotel.

The staff at Villa Scacciapensieri made my entire stay extremely pleasant. They are more than willing to help and provide personal, friendly and gracious assistance -- from checking bus or train schedules to providing a pot of hot water for tea for my room. The breakfast is large and extravagant and all meals are elegantly served in a bright, airy dining room filled with antique sideboards and flowers. The grounds of the hotel are beautifully landscaped with lovely views over the surrounding hills. Siena is a lovely city and I took day trips to Assisi, San Dimignano and Florence via public transport. I would highly recommend the Villa; it is far enough away from the center of the town to have the feel of being quiet and removed; yet you can hop on the city bus (at the bottom of their driveway) and be in the center within 30 minutes. I hope to return to the Villa again when I next visit Tuscany.

This villa/hotel is exceptional. The setting, outside of Siena proper is quiet and has marvelous views. They have an outstanding dining room (which is not cheap, but is a fine dining experience). The staff is exceptional in their friendliness and care. The local bus stops at the end of the driveway. The room, in a separate building from the main villa was a little crowded, but very clean and had a wonderful view. The room was actually on two levels, with the sitting area and bathroom downstairs and the bedroom in a loft. It could be a problem for some that the bath was on the lower level. The rooms in the villa (more expensive) were more traditional hotel rooms with the bath off of the bedroom. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and in fact it would make an outstanding destination wedding spot.

Be sure to get a detailed map to this Villa before leaving the US, or your home country. It is very difficult to find, located in the burbs of Sienna. Once you get there, the hotel is a villa with gardens, courtyards, and large domestic yards overlooking olive groves. Staff are just so competent and caring. Food was good.

Just got back last week (10-26-2007). Let me start by saying that this place is beautiful. The staff is excellent. Prices to dine and drink are high, but in line. The only drawback is that it is to far from town. The bus runs on a regular schedule. It gets crowded and you wind up standing most of the time. If you only have a few days in Sienna, and really want to enjoy the town, stay in town. We took a cab several times and spent around 10 Euros each time. If you like to ride the bus, or have a car, this place is for you. There is nothing to speak of within walking distance on the villa.

We had a wonderful stay at this Villa for a getaway for my wife and I. We were a little disappointed with the lack of a welcoming feel from the front desk but overall the experience was outstanding. The price is rather high if your on a budget, but otherwise I thought it was well worth it. We had dinner at the Villa two nights and it was absolutely amazing food and Andre, the main host, is a joy to have and very professional. Also, the lounge area was way better than expected, with a fire and bar there as well! Awesome time!

If I could, I would fly back tomorrow and spend a full week here! Our room overlooked the hills of Chianti. Beautifully decorated with period pieces, soft linens, and a spacious bathroom. Normally, we shy away from "hotel dining" but we had the most wonderful dinner in the dining room......the highlight of our entire 4 city, 14 day Italian vacation! We have dined in many of the finest restaurants internationally and can truly put this on our top ten list for both food and service. A very helpful and patient front desk staff guided us thru the bus to town schedule, internet access, directions to the old city's sites, etc...even when I blew a fuse in our room. I would highly recommend a stay here to all my friends travelling to Italy.

We were upgraded into room 47!! What a view!! Those oversized windows are amazing. Great view of Siena from them. We slept with the windows open and were awakened by the sounds of bells in the early morning. Front counter staff were wonderfull. Knowledgeable, helpfull, funny, discrete and professional. Our chemistry with that group was amazing. The very taciturn Bruce was even able to to satisfy quirky early morning "residual vino remidies" for the folks from Texas. It is not cheap but it is well worth every euro.

Was truly amazed when we arrived, expected it to be nice but not as opulent or as stunning. The staff are impeccable, the service superb and the views are to die for. A special mention needs to be made about the maitre de, Andreu, who is world class and possibly the nicest guy I've met!!! Can't recommend it highly enough. Will definitely go back.

The hotel and surroundings were beautiful. The staff were very professional and attentive without being intrusive. Breakfast which was included was plentiful, varied and delicious, served on the terrace overlooking the wonderful views. I would highly recommend this hotel and my only regret was that we had to leave.

What a jewel Villa Scacciapensieri proved to be. Close enough to the center of town and yet felt like we were way out in the tuscan countryside. We ate both our dinners there becuase of the superb 4 course meal presentations. Staff was friendly and professional. We could have lingered there indefinately.

I spent a month traveling in Italy, and Hotel Villa Scacciapensieri was one of two memorable places of this trip. The reception staff (Barbara and Carolina) made a special effort to ensure that we had an incredible experience at the hotel. The restaurant manager Andrea was so talented and worked so hard to ensure that every dining experience was special: and it was!!!! I found the dining atmosphere so relaxing that my wife and I with my brother and sister-in-law were closing the restaurant every night that we were there. I will recommend this hotel and restaurant to all of my family and friends as a special find.

The location was superb - breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Tuscan countryside was out of this world. The service was perfect, all the employees were in uniform and were so helpful. One comment I do have is that there was quite a difference between rooms in the main building and ours in the villino building. Although it suited our requirements the air conditioning unit broke down and although fixed very quickly it was quite noisy during the night. The grounds and the pool were perfect and I would thoroughly recommend the hotel to anyone. The bus service was excellent - you could manage without getting the rather scary taxis at all if you planned it carefully!

We decided to stay at the Villa Scacciapensieri for its situation just outside Sienna and its garden with swimming pool. The beauty of the garden and the view we had from our lovely pavillion room (though an economy room) went well over our expectations. This place is absolutely beautiful, and with a bus stop right in front of the gate, the short trip to Sienna could not be made easier (tickets can be bought at reception). We read some comments from previous visitors saying that dinner was expensive. We do not agree and were fully satisfied: service is of the highest standard, very formal and attentive. Some might call it slightly old fashioned, we would describe it as tradition at its best. Everything we had was delicious, and the olive oil (which is produced on site) is a must! All together, we thing that the 4-course set menu was excellent value for money. One suggestion for improvement, though: the swimming pool is in a lovely but relatively shady area and should really be heated! In spite of cold water, we had a wonderful stay at the very traditional and charming Villa Scacciapensieri.

This villa has exceptional views and much to offer such as a pool, dining room and bar. The rooms were average but clean. The bed was on a loft so this would be a problem for those who have difficulty with stairs. Sienna is beautiful! You do need to catch a bus to go to Sienna but after the first trip, this was very easy to do. The staff was very friendly and helpful and even assisted us with a wine tour to Montalcino which we would highly recommend.

Me and my wife, plus three other couples stayed in Villa Scacciapensieri for 4 nights and we enjoyed every moment of it. I especially recommend the nice and quiet fireplace lobby for all future guests. The employees are excellent and all restaurants that were recommended by the hotel, turned out to be excellent. Next time I hope to stay in the main building, where the rooms seem to be nicer, but I can easily recommend the rooms in the supplemental building which is across from the building where the reception is located. Breakfast is served very professionally and the whole stay was perfect for us. I strongly recommend this place.

My girlfriend and I spent a wonderful three nights at Scacciapensieri. Although originally only two nights were available, and I had booked our third night in another hotel, the very helpful staff made it possible for us to continue our stay for the third night and engineered our move to another room so smoothly it was barely noticeable. Correspondence was friendly and extremely helpful, and staff were very courteous and helpful throughout. The rooms in the new extension were very comfortable and well-appointed, the grounds beautiful, and the lounge area very comfortable. The swimming pool was also a delight. We dined in the restaurant one night as a treat and, though not cheap, the meal was exceptionally well-prepared and presented. The clientelle was mostly older couples (we were the only young couple present as far as I could establish!) but this suited the old-world patrician charm of the location.

The Villa was all we expected from the rave reviews we read. It's a great facility in a lovely setting, but the best part is the service. The concierge and manager could not be stumped by unusual requests. The dining room staff displayed the highest standard of etiquette. Their pride in their meticulous style of serving added to our enjoyment of the delicious breakfasts and dinners. The location afforded easy access to Chianti Classico explorations as well as Siena. Views of the surrounding countryside, especially in the morning mist, were magical.

The villa was absolutely perfect from the staff, to the rooms to the restaurant. The staff in the restaurant treated you like family and thoroughly enjoyed explaining the dishes and local cuisine. They made the dining experience pure heaven. Not to mention the dessert cart....which was fabulous. The atmosphere in the villa was friendly and very helpful. They helped us schedule trips and made sure we knew the best ways to get around. One of the most delightful parts of our trip was getting to know the administrative staff that ran the villa...Caroline, Paul, Barbara and Valentina were gracious, kind and so understanding and helpful. It was an excellent experience and we have recommended the villa to everyone we know. I wouldnt stay anywhere else in Siena but the Villa Scacciapensieri. Kathleen Bell

An oasis in Italy. One day we stayed at the hotel until 2:00pm because we enjoyed the quiet setting. Dinner is excellent and the view from the terrace is great with a glass of wine. My husband and I run for exercise and we were able to fine a dirt road close to the hotel and run through the wine and olive country. A beautiful hotel with a staff who goes the extra mile.

Villa Scacciapensieri is an oasis of peace in the otherwise uninspiring suburbs north of Siena. The location was not as we anticipated in the Chianti countryside but rather in the suburbs close to, what appears to be, one of the major hospitals in Tuscany. The hotel however cannot be faulted in terms of comfort and service. We were particularly impressed with the quality of food and service in the restaurant. The grounds of the hotel are well kept and peaceful. The public service bus into the centre of Siena is convenient but not as we also anticipated a hotel run minibus service. Other residents were mainly friendly Americans. Our confirmed booking price through Venere did not match the price the hotel tried to charge us upon checking out. When this was pointed out our confirmed booking price through Venere was accepted without argument. Although I have said I would not return to the hotel this is not because of the hotel itself or its quality and service, which was exceptional and well worth revisiting, but because of its location.

My wife and I went to Siena for the first time. Villa Scacciapensieri sits on top of a hill overlooking the valley and surrounding hillsides. Our room overlooked the beautifully landscaped garden, and beyond green rolling hills dotted with Italian homes. I will stay at this Villa again with no reservations what so ever. And we will definitely return to beautiful Siena.

We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Scacciapensieri It is in an excellent position a short bus ride into the centre of Sienna and either a bus or a seven euro taxi ride back at night. The restaurant was first class and lunch taken in the garden was very relaxing. All the staff were very proficient and helpful but a special mention to Bruce who kept us right with our drive into Florence and his tips on route and where to park were first class and saved a few shatterd nerves.Could recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quiet relaxing visit to this part of Tuscany.

Our stay at Villa Scacciapensieri was very pleasant. The hotel is perched on a hill just outside of Siena, which made for a beautiful view. Despite being outside of the city, there's no reason to rent a car or rely solely on taxis. A city bus stops imediately in front of the hotel (every 15 minutes) that goes directly into Siena. The grounds of the hotel (which include an outdoor terrace, pool, tennis court and gardens) were not manicured and maintained to the level of most American hotels (immaculately sculpted bushes and lush, tightly cut grass) but were beautiful nonetheless. The hotel staff was exceptionally helpful; they provided recommendations on what to do, rented us a Smart Car for a day to drive through Chianti country, provided directions to the Prada outlet in Montevarchi, etc. Lastly, the breakfast room is charming -- and their freshly squeezed orange juice is out of this world.

A lovely hotel in a lovely location. Siena is stunning. Do not dine at this Hotel. Our dinner here was the most expensive of all our stay in Italy and the worst. The hotel restaurant is extremely expensive. Food wasn't bad but there is no correspondence between food-excellence and the high price. Never eat there with children: Spaghetti with butter costs 14 €, icecream for children was 7 € for 1 ball. Service was friendly and professionell.

The staff and accomidation where delightful. We were there for vaccation and relaxation. The only fault we can name is the food served for breakfast and dinner was not very good and not fresh. The Meat choices were from a poor cut of meat and tough both nights, the fresh juice was watered down and the pasta was just ok....A little disapointing. But the waiters and everyone were so nice and helpful. We would diffenately come back, but go in to town to eat... The place is absolutely charming and peacful... * There was early morning construction noise in the surrounding area every day....

This is a lovely place to stay while visiting Siena and could also be used as a base for exploring other parts of Tuscany. The rooms, restaurant, grounds, and location were all very nice, although the tables in the room were a bit dusty. Note that you probably should have a rental car if you decide to stay here since it is outside the city walls. (There are buses between the villa and Siena.) We had a fantastic dinner on our second night and very much appreciated the excellent service from the maitre d' who translated the entire Italian menu into English for us and helped us pick a very good wine (Il Grigio). That being said, I was surprised that the restaurant didn't have English menus. Also, the service is overly formal for breakfast. A bow-tied waiter rolls a cart to your table and offers you various selections. We would have preferred being able to walk up to a buffet table. One other note: the pool had limited opening hours (I think from 10AM - 6PM); this seemed strange and unnecessary since people are probably out seeing sights during those hours. We were there in June and had no interest in swimming, but I can imagine wanting to swim on a hot July or August night and being frustrated at the limited hours. Despite these minor objections, we liked Villa Scacciapensieri very much and would come back.
