Hotel Certosa di Maggiano - Siena

Certosa de Maggiano is a very unique hotel: a former monastery converted into a hotel-resort by Relais Chateaux. The hotel, rooms and the property are very unique. The location is approx. a 20 min walk from the entry gates to Sienna. The fitness area needs to be upgraded significantly, however the pool and garden area is wonderful for a glass a wine, taking in sun and swimming. We unfortunately were disappointed with one of their front desk managers who wanted to bill us 10 euro to open a bottle of wine in our room when all we asked for were 2 glasses and a bottle opener. Secondly this person would not initially honour the complimentary breakfast until we presented a confirmation note sent to us by email and by her. We apparently had a good rate at 296 Euro per night which is a relatively fair price for this hotel however these two incidents were a set back to enjoying the full experience. I will say the other service staff and front desk managers were very accommodating. If you are looking for a blend of 5 star service at a very unique Tuscan hotel experience this is a great place to be.

Not a place to stay if you're working and need usable internet access. There's none in the rooms, wired or wireless, and only an open computer (E5 for 30 minutes, European keyboard) in library. Otherwise highly recommended.

This is a truly beautiful hotel. The staff are fantastic and setting is second to none. I would thoroughly recommend visiting Sienna when in Italy and it is a 20 min walk to the town centre (10 mins to the town walls) and there is a bus stop right outside the hotel. It is however very pricey and we simply couldn't understand how they feel they can charge 31 euros each yes each for breakfast - we never did it marching into town for a great coffee and pastry for 5-10 euros instead!

Travelling with my wife, but late in the season during season must be beautiful. No shuttle, you need taxi for 2 miles, in Siena, no private cars.Breakfast excellent.
