Hotel is in the center, perfect position, simple, cheap, clean, breakfast satisfying (but do not expect more then rolls). Some rooms are on the main street side, so there is big noise whole the night(unless you close the door, that is of course impossible in the summer). There is not big problem to find the hotel, but do not rely on the GPS very much in the narrow streets of Siena. The access for cars to the Siena is limited, but you can drive to hotel and unload luggage - I was little bit confused with restriction signs and streets without cars. Parking is nearby (3 minutes).

We had 1 and 1/2 days visiting Cathedral, Baptistery, Museo dell Opera, Museo Civico, Palazzo Publico etc or just walking around. That was my last chance to show Duccios works to my wife because we are nearly 80. Cannon d'Oro is a romantic place to stay, clean and quiet but may be not suited to elderly people who do not like climbing staircases. Breakfast was good and professionally served but to find the breakfast room (Collazione) for the first time was a bit of exciting exercise. Siena is a comparatively costly town but that is the price you should pay for being submerged in real and fast unbroken Middle Ages (if you can ignore the flow of turists).

Location and friendly staff are the best things about this hotel. Bathroom/shower is the worst part. The water from shower pours directly to the whole bathroom and we did not find this very hygienic. Internet never worked inside the rooms.

We had a great stay at the Canon D'Oro. The reception man spoke English and was very accomodating since we arrived much earlier than planned. Our room was very spacious and had a drop-dead-gorgeous view of the Tuscan hills. This hotel was everything I hoped it would be. Check-in and check-out were painless and the location of the hotel was fantastic. We arrived by bus and left by bus and it was an easy 5 min walk to/from the SITA and SENA bus stop (Gramsci). I definitely recommend the Canon D'Oro.

The hotel on the positive side is very clean and location is very good, even the walking distance to the parking lot is very good. The staff is very friendly. For the price and location you cannot beat it. The hotel is clearly not a luxury accommodation, however it is in desperate need to be remodeled.

The only advantage of this hotel is its location. Everything else is crap. It totally does not worth the money. The rooms are small, looks odd, are not comfortable and you have no facilities, excepting the internet which was sometimes working. I paid too much (70 Eur, no breakfast) for this hotel and even if it was cheaper, I would never stay in there. It is just a tourist trap.

Hostel style hotel in prime location in the historical centre of Siena. There is no air conditioning, only a ceiling fan, so it was quite hot. This seems to be the standard for Siena though. It was also quite noisy at night, but that's to be expected for such a central location. Breakfast not great, but no worse than the typical Italian hotel breakfast, which is pretty dire.

Hotel Cannon d'Oro proved to be an ideal choice for our three day visit. Perfect location from which to explore the whole city with all of the main visitor attraction within easy walking distance. Although sited on one of the main streets leading to il Campo, the property was very quite at night with no hint of disturbance. Bus terminal a couple of minutes away, whilst rail station only 5-10 minute bus trip thus allowing easy travel (bus or train) to Florence, Pisa and beyond. Our days (and particularly the evenings) in Siena won't be forgotten. From peaceful and relaxing, to enlightening and entertaining – not generally something you could experience in most UK cities – the Italians seem to approach life from a totally different perspective that the brits and the location and amenities of Hotel Cannon d'Oro proved to be ideal in allowing us to experience it first hand.

Our room was spacious because we reserved a triple for two people. Otherwise, the rooms are not spacious, but adequate. The man at the front desk when we got there didn't speak English and wasn't friendly. The location is great. We had a lovely view out our window. No elevator available, so you'll have to carry your luggage upstairs. There was an elevator, but it had a sign warning that it wasn't available, so you might be able to make special arrangements ahead of time (?). Breakfast was the usual uninspired rolls, cereal, and yogurt. All that considered, I would still not mind staying here again, but I would look around at my options first.

I really appreciated the friendly, helpful staff and excellent location. The room was small (as Italian rooms all seem to be unless you are in the five-star bracket) but immaculate, with a small desk on which to put my laptop. The fittings all worked (something you can't take for granted). The staff tried hard to help and answer questions. Value for money was very good.

I think the hotel caters to groups and if you are a single traveller you feel really out of place here. It is in a good location as far as being easy to reach from the bus station and all the major sights but the downside of the location is that it is noisy. When groups travel they are sooo noisy when they come and go.Breakfast is just average, not as good as other hotels for the same price.

Stayed in Canon D'Oro for just 1 night. Location was absolutely brilliant as travelling with children who don't like to walk. Very central to all the local sites. Bedroom was spacious for 4 people and was quiet for sleeping at night. Air conditioning kept room really cool, but really loud so unable to keep on during the night. The only other fault I would find is with the shower. The shower is the wet floor type which was a bit messy and akward for 4 people using a bathroom. Breakfast was not great, but could get lovely breakfast and coffee in local coffee shops. Receptionist spoke English which was great. We reserved car space in local garage through hotel and got discount. Garage very near to hotel for walking. Would recommend hotel for short break.

Perfect location- could not have been better situated in Siena. Reasonably, even inexpensively priced for the location and the quality of the rooms. My only complaint is that you could hear EVERYTHING your neighbors (above, to either side, down the hall) were up to, be it coughing in the bathroom or watching TV, or chatting in their rooms (not to mention in the hallway).

Hotel Cannon d'Oro is located in the center of Siena, very convenient. clean and quiet, very friendly! for the money I paid, I could not imagine that is for such decent hotel. one thing needs to be improved is the alleviator, which is for luggage only; and the stairs are deep, not for old people and little kids.

The room, while plenty large for a single and respectably clean, was more like a cell than anything else. For some reason, I was uncomfortable there and felt like i didn't belong in the room. Could not get the ceiling fan to work. The location is great, however on a Saturday night that also meant it was VERY loud and there was no way to really get any sleep. And then in the morning I was able to hear every maid, guest and staff person yelling their business because I was on the ground floor. Breakfast, served in a very nice room upstairs, was almost all packaged.

The hotel is very well situated, right in the middle of everything. The person who greeted us was not particularly welcoming and reluctantly helpful but the other staff were much more welcoming and helpful. Sienna is a really great city. We were offered no help with our suitcases and there were a lot of stairs, so be preared and travel light! We had a triple room #37. One double bed and 1 single. It had a really nice view and it would have been very quiet except that there was a big concert nearby. The breakfast was very basic, cereal, yogurt, very hard rolls, nutella, juice, coffee. It was adequate but not tasty. We only spent one night so it was fine but if I were to stay longer, I might try somewhere else if the price was comparable.

The location of the hotel is excellent but that is all. This is a very, very basic hotel. The door knob to the room was broken and did not work properly. The shower only has a curtain and when one showers the water basically floods the bathroom-very, very inconvenient. The towels are extremely thin (clean though). Something that was like a foam was provided and a soap-lucky I had shampoo. Forget about the free internet-IT DOES NOT WORK. I tried it in the room as well as downstairs in the hotel-it does not work anywhere. On the good side, it is very clean, breakfast was dissent, staff was ok and as I said, the location is excellent. The price was too high I thought for what was offered.

The hotel is in the nice place, in the center, everything is near. The room was quite good and clean, however, I had to wait till they clean it. The bathroom is spacious, but there is not a single hook or shelf for toiletries. Very inconvenient. The shower sprinkler is unreachable, fixed very high up with no way to bring it down. Bidet sprinkler was broken. Terrible WiFi. There is no signal in the rooms. There is no public place with a good signal - try standing for 15 minutes in a corridor with laptop. And where there is a good signal, the connection goes up and down. Do not count on their wifi. The breakfast was spoiled by terrible coffee. Hey, in Italy? That's a crime. And brioches were stale.

The hotel is situated within the city walls and 5 minutes walk from IL CAMPO. However, its proximity to the heart of the town was problematic for people arriving by car. We could not find the hotel even with our Garmin GPS which kept directing us to enter into streets that were authorized for entry. We were literally going in circle and then decided to call the hotel. The receptionist on staff that night was very patient with us, and it took all of 15-20 minutes of navigation help from him to get us to the hotel. The hotel has no elevator service so be prepared for some heavy lifting if you have big luggages. The breakfast was also very good especially their coffee. Overall, an excellent hotel for the price but make sure to arrive before it gets dark.

Hotel carino in zona centrale, personale gentile e disponibile, purtroppo la camera a piano terra subiva il rumore delle "mandrie" di turisti in spostamento. Hotel Cannon d'Oro was a great place to stay. We were there for four nights and loved Sienna. The staff was very friendly especially the night clerk, Brian. The location was perfect. It was very close to the bus stop and was close to the piazza and other attractions. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was a usual European fare and the serving room was very pleasant. We had to leave on the bus before breakfast (5:00 am ) on our last morning and Brian packed a bag with juice and croissants for us. We were very appreciative of the kindness shown and great service provided. We would definitely stay there again. The only drawback ... there was no elevator which might make it difficult for some travelers.

Our room was very nice and clean with a comfortable bed. It was the smallest of the 3 places we stayed while in Italy, but we didn't need much more. I was traveling with my 20 year old daughter and maybe would have appreciated 2 beds, which I am sure we could have asked for, but one double was fine for the one night we stayed. The staff was very competent and helpful and spoke good English. The breakfast was the best we had at the 3 places we stayed in Italy. It was in a room on the 2nd floor of the hotel. There was a large assortment of coffees, juice, milk, cereals and pastries. It was very nice to get a good breakfast to start the day. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Cannon d'Oro was a great little hotel right in the centre of Siena. It was only a 5 minute walk from Piazza Gramsci where the main bus station into and out of town is. The hotel is easy to find as there are signs. The staff at the hotel were great and really friendly and helpful. The room was not overly big but not too small and as I was solo this was not a problem. The bathroom was nice and spacious. The only problem I had was that my room was on the ground floor next to the stairs so you could hear every single person running up and down the stairs. I had a great stay in Siena and would stay here again

Wonderfully, centrally located - in the "don't drive area", so give them your car license number, and they'll make sure you don't get a ticket. Parking is a bit of a problem: I ended up a 15-minute walk away, near the fort - but paid nothing for it (follow the signs to the stadium). There's fee parking nearer the property, for about 18EUR/day. The room was fine; I'd booked a single, and got a double. Clean and comfortable. It was on the ground floor, and a bit noisy inside the hotel in the morning. The streets outside exhibited the usual clangs and noises you get in the center of any an Italian city - no big deal. The receptionist when I arrived was an ex-pat Brit, and wonderfully helpful. Other staff were entirely competent and efficient. Breakfast was in a room on toe other end of a rabbit-warren of passages ... and a bit disappointing by comparison to other Italian hotels I stayed at on this trip: so-so coffee, and a limited selection, although perfectly adequate. They looked after my luggage during the day I wandered around the city before bringing the car back to pick it up. Overall: recommended.

Very easy to find in a great location in Sienna. A little noisy because of people walking by at night. we had a room with a window to the alley way. But besides that, it was great! Free wireless access was great!

The hotel and the rooms are o.k.the decoration of the hotel is simple, a little bit cold, and the entrance is dark.

This is a very poor hotel. The rooms are very disappointing and the breakfast appalling. Staff are surly and there is no elevator - we were on the second floor and there was no offer of help with luggage. Fruit juice is from plastic cups, cereal is taken in flat plastic trays, croissants are like cakes etc etc. We would not stay again, and we don't think you should recommend this hotel.

The coffee really is not drinkable! Also all the breakfast foods are very pre packaged. The welcome on the front desk also depends who is on . One very friendly man, another very grumpy! The location of the hotel is its best feature.

We couldn't have asked for more helpful staff during our one night stay. Providing us with a map before we even asked, helped us to organise getting to San Gimignano for the day and even printed out train times to help us back to Pisa. The rooms were lovely and clean as well as being nice and cool when it was so hot outside. Location is fantastic.. right in the centre of Siena... couldn't have asked for anything more for our fleeting visit. Definitely highly recommended and would return in the future. Grazie mille!!

Very good hotel - within walking distance of most restaurants and places of intrest. This however meant it could be quite noisy at night especially so because we visited the week before the palio.

Very, very unpleasant arrival, with employees not only denying to help us with our luggage, but also responding in a bad-humoured way. Rooms are clean and spacious, but it might be paid attention, as they differ markedly among them (light, noise, views). The hotel is weel-located, near de city centre and the bus stop, but I do not recommend it for people carrying heavy luggage or aged, as there is no lift and stairs are steep. Also, the breakfast is poor: indutrial pastries, cold coffee, no fruit nor cereals.

Very good location, little expensive,no air conditionning when outside is 35 degres, as there was a fest this night just down the hotel the room was hot and the night short.

This is a lovely hotel in the heart of Siena. We had a quad (for a family of four) which was pretty and very spacious. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking is a little tricky, but it seems so for any hotel in Siena. We would definitely stay in this hotel again.

Hotel does not have a lift so carying your luggage up upon arrival may be a challenge. Especially if you have been shopping for a few days previously.

The hotel is near the stop for the bus from Florence and also just a few minutes from Il Campo and all the cafes/restaurants that surround it. Our room was disappointing as the bathroom was poor quality with a shower that flooded the bathroom and a toilet cistern that was rather temperamental! The view from our window was straight into the people's accommodation opposite (just a few yards away). It was also quite noisy at night. Siena itself is well worth a visit though.

Stayed two nights in Siena at this hotel and had a very pleasant time. After catching the No 7 bus from under the Art gallery opposite the train station. This hotel is then only a 5 min walk towards the main square from the bus station. It is in the best location within the centre of Siena and for the price it was very good. I had originally booked a single room but ended up with a family room in the roof. The size of the room was large but unfortunately to see out of the window you had to stand on a chair. The breakfast is basic and the use of the lifts seem to be restricted. Apart from this though it has friendly staff and is ideal for a couple of nights stay if you are on a budget

I must admit I was a little concerned about whether we would like the Canon d'oro, as it was the cheapest place we were staying during our holiday and well, we would have to have at lease one dud, wouldn't we? But no, it was spotless inside, the staff were great (especially the chap who spent so much time explaining a Chianti cycling route for my husband) and the ceiling fan over the bed meant the absence of air conditioning was not a problem. In all, very impressed. We didn't have time for breakfast so it is not reviewed here. Siena is a great place and if you can't find breakfast somewhere in town you shouldn't be leaving your back yard! Canon d'Oro is not for the sensitive sleeper. The street noise was amplified by the narrow stone alleyways but as the main noise was from the winning Palio team drumming and chanting their victory song, it was kind of a romantic noise. You could shut the double glazed windows if you wanted but we prefer fresh air and use industrial ear plugs! Really loved Siena and the Canon d'Oro...and we're a couple of old farts.

Great location on the main street....note that if you stay within a week or so after Palio be prepared for the festivities to carry on in the street into the wee hours. We enjoyed it thoroughly given we were hoping to catch some of the flavor of the Palio and the spirit of the contradas. Go Porcupines!

Very well situated hotel, nice staff and clean, spacious rooms. But avoid room nº32 (at least in summer): it's very hot and the window faces a private, very noisy house!

We arrived early and were immediately told that we could store our luggage until the room was ready. We returned much later and found luggage was totally safe. I should have asked to use the elevator instead of luggin my heavy luggage up all of the steps - I did this at the end and it was much easier. All staff was helpful. The toilet/sink outside of our room made another accessible area for the 4 of us. We had already stayed in several hotels and were impressed with Cannon d'Oro. I had thought there was air conditioning, and in the hot weather, that would have been nice. The ceiling fan did not do much for the other 2 beds, and due to the street noise, we closed the windows 1 night and really suffered. But, it was good value for money, and the location was great-close to the town center, bus stop, and Wed. morning market.

Best thing about Hotel is position. Bedroom was clean and beds very comfortable. A few small inexpensive changes would make a big difference: 1. Better quailty loo seat, not bendy plastic. 2. A shelf in the bathroom to put toiletries on. 3.China bowls for cereal, not thin disposable container! 4.Clean out the coffee urn - it was stale, stewed and lukewarm. 5. A bit of fruit at breakfast. 6. A smile from the breakfast room staff -they looked as if they hated their job.
