Hotel Cannon d'Oro is located in the center of Siena, very convenient. clean and quiet, very friendly! for the money I paid, I could not imagine that is for such decent hotel. one thing needs to be improved is the alleviator, which is for luggage only; and the stairs are deep, not for old people and little kids.

Very helpful staff. Location couldn't be better. The restaurant Papei was recommended by one of the staff there and it was excellent!

My wife and I stayed one night, our room was very spacious, the room and ensuite bathroom were spotlessly clean. The shower had plenty of hot water and the supply of linen and towels was excellent. There was no undue noise at night. We thought the breakfast was good just don't expect to get the same breakfast you are used to at home.Location is very good being just a few minutes walk from the bus station and the Campo. Some guests might find the hotel facilities a bit limited but we thought it was excellent value for money and would not hesitate to stay there again.

A fantastic location in the center of Siena. This is only a 2 star hotel but it is well kept and run, and for the price it is a great deal.

Fantastic location in central Siena. Only quibble was with bread rolls like rocks which no one could tackle! When there is a bakery opposite why can't we have fresh bread and croissants. Yoghurt and cereal made up for this.

The room, while plenty large for a single and respectably clean, was more like a cell than anything else. For some reason, I was uncomfortable there and felt like i didn't belong in the room. Could not get the ceiling fan to work. The location is great, however on a Saturday night that also meant it was VERY loud and there was no way to really get any sleep. And then in the morning I was able to hear every maid, guest and staff person yelling their business because I was on the ground floor. Breakfast, served in a very nice room upstairs, was almost all packaged.

The hotel is very well situated, right in the middle of everything. The person who greeted us was not particularly welcoming and reluctantly helpful but the other staff were much more welcoming and helpful. Sienna is a really great city. We were offered no help with our suitcases and there were a lot of stairs, so be preared and travel light! We had a triple room #37. One double bed and 1 single. It had a really nice view and it would have been very quiet except that there was a big concert nearby. The breakfast was very basic, cereal, yogurt, very hard rolls, nutella, juice, coffee. It was adequate but not tasty. We only spent one night so it was fine but if I were to stay longer, I might try somewhere else if the price was comparable.

The hotel is wonderful situated in the middle of the city of Siena, close by the bus station. But the rooms seems a little bit old. They need a renovation. And the breakfast was reduced to the essential. Basically you pay the wonderful situation of the hotel

I stayed at Cannon d'oro for two nights immediately following the July palio. The whole experience was truly excellent - the staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel is in a top location - central but tucked in behind the facades of Siena's main street, and the breakfast was a nice bonus. I'll definitely stay there next time I'm in Siena.

The hotel is in the nice place, in the center, everything is near. The room was quite good and clean, however, I had to wait till they clean it. The bathroom is spacious, but there is not a single hook or shelf for toiletries. Very inconvenient. The shower sprinkler is unreachable, fixed very high up with no way to bring it down. Bidet sprinkler was broken. Terrible WiFi. There is no signal in the rooms. There is no public place with a good signal - try standing for 15 minutes in a corridor with laptop. And where there is a good signal, the connection goes up and down. Do not count on their wifi. The breakfast was spoiled by terrible coffee. Hey, in Italy? That's a crime. And brioches were stale.

The location of the hotel is excellent but that is all. This is a very, very basic hotel. The door knob to the room was broken and did not work properly. The shower only has a curtain and when one showers the water basically floods the bathroom-very, very inconvenient. The towels are extremely thin (clean though). Something that was like a foam was provided and a soap-lucky I had shampoo. Forget about the free internet-IT DOES NOT WORK. I tried it in the room as well as downstairs in the hotel-it does not work anywhere. On the good side, it is very clean, breakfast was dissent, staff was ok and as I said, the location is excellent. The price was too high I thought for what was offered.

The hotel is situated within the city walls and 5 minutes walk from IL CAMPO. However, its proximity to the heart of the town was problematic for people arriving by car. We could not find the hotel even with our Garmin GPS which kept directing us to enter into streets that were authorized for entry. We were literally going in circle and then decided to call the hotel. The receptionist on staff that night was very patient with us, and it took all of 15-20 minutes of navigation help from him to get us to the hotel. The hotel has no elevator service so be prepared for some heavy lifting if you have big luggages. The breakfast was also very good especially their coffee. Overall, an excellent hotel for the price but make sure to arrive before it gets dark.

The location was excellent and the service outstanding. The size of the room was quite a surprise! We were thrilled. All the employees working the front desk were very nice and helpful. The woman working when we checked in and out was beyond helpful. She was outstanding. We loved reading the history of the hotel in the brochure we picked up. I think it would be something to advertise as we found it made the stay more special. We were very pleased with this hotel and the location. We would highly recommend it and stay there again.

Hotel Cannon d'Oro was a great place to stay. We were there for four nights and loved Sienna. The staff was very friendly especially the night clerk, Brian. The location was perfect. It was very close to the bus stop and was close to the piazza and other attractions. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was a usual European fare and the serving room was very pleasant. We had to leave on the bus before breakfast (5:00 am ) on our last morning and Brian packed a bag with juice and croissants for us. We were very appreciative of the kindness shown and great service provided. We would definitely stay there again. The only drawback ... there was no elevator which might make it difficult for some travelers.

Our room was very nice and clean with a comfortable bed. It was the smallest of the 3 places we stayed while in Italy, but we didn't need much more. I was traveling with my 20 year old daughter and maybe would have appreciated 2 beds, which I am sure we could have asked for, but one double was fine for the one night we stayed. The staff was very competent and helpful and spoke good English. The breakfast was the best we had at the 3 places we stayed in Italy. It was in a room on the 2nd floor of the hotel. There was a large assortment of coffees, juice, milk, cereals and pastries. It was very nice to get a good breakfast to start the day. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

I stayed on the top floor towards the back of the hotel. Very quiet and a nice view. Staff very helpful and accomodating. A little tough finding the hotel in the maze of city streets, once I found it, easy to get in and out of the hotel to drop off and pick up bags. Required parking about half a mile away. Great location in the city center for the sights, shopping and dining.

Cannon d'Oro was a great little hotel right in the centre of Siena. It was only a 5 minute walk from Piazza Gramsci where the main bus station into and out of town is. The hotel is easy to find as there are signs. The staff at the hotel were great and really friendly and helpful. The room was not overly big but not too small and as I was solo this was not a problem. The bathroom was nice and spacious. The only problem I had was that my room was on the ground floor next to the stairs so you could hear every single person running up and down the stairs. I had a great stay in Siena and would stay here again

Wonderfully, centrally located - in the "don't drive area", so give them your car license number, and they'll make sure you don't get a ticket. Parking is a bit of a problem: I ended up a 15-minute walk away, near the fort - but paid nothing for it (follow the signs to the stadium). There's fee parking nearer the property, for about 18EUR/day. The room was fine; I'd booked a single, and got a double. Clean and comfortable. It was on the ground floor, and a bit noisy inside the hotel in the morning. The streets outside exhibited the usual clangs and noises you get in the center of any an Italian city - no big deal. The receptionist when I arrived was an ex-pat Brit, and wonderfully helpful. Other staff were entirely competent and efficient. Breakfast was in a room on toe other end of a rabbit-warren of passages ... and a bit disappointing by comparison to other Italian hotels I stayed at on this trip: so-so coffee, and a limited selection, although perfectly adequate. They looked after my luggage during the day I wandered around the city before bringing the car back to pick it up. Overall: recommended.

This is a very poor hotel. The rooms are very disappointing and the breakfast appalling. Staff are surly and there is no elevator - we were on the second floor and there was no offer of help with luggage. Fruit juice is from plastic cups, cereal is taken in flat plastic trays, croissants are like cakes etc etc. We would not stay again, and we don't think you should recommend this hotel.

We couldn't have asked for more helpful staff during our one night stay. Providing us with a map before we even asked, helped us to organise getting to San Gimignano for the day and even printed out train times to help us back to Pisa. The rooms were lovely and clean as well as being nice and cool when it was so hot outside. Location is fantastic.. right in the centre of Siena... couldn't have asked for anything more for our fleeting visit. Definitely highly recommended and would return in the future. Grazie mille!!

Very good hotel - within walking distance of most restaurants and places of intrest. This however meant it could be quite noisy at night especially so because we visited the week before the palio.
Italy, Aug 2008
Very, very unpleasant arrival, with employees not only denying to help us with our luggage, but also responding in a bad-humoured way. Rooms are clean and spacious, but it might be paid attention, as they differ markedly among them (light, noise, views). The hotel is weel-located, near de city centre and the bus stop, but I do not recommend it for people carrying heavy luggage or aged, as there is no lift and stairs are steep. Also, the breakfast is poor: indutrial pastries, cold coffee, no fruit nor cereals.

The hotel is near the stop for the bus from Florence and also just a few minutes from Il Campo and all the cafes/restaurants that surround it. Our room was disappointing as the bathroom was poor quality with a shower that flooded the bathroom and a toilet cistern that was rather temperamental! The view from our window was straight into the people's accommodation opposite (just a few yards away). It was also quite noisy at night. Siena itself is well worth a visit though.

Stayed two nights in Siena at this hotel and had a very pleasant time. After catching the No 7 bus from under the Art gallery opposite the train station. This hotel is then only a 5 min walk towards the main square from the bus station. It is in the best location within the centre of Siena and for the price it was very good. I had originally booked a single room but ended up with a family room in the roof. The size of the room was large but unfortunately to see out of the window you had to stand on a chair. The breakfast is basic and the use of the lifts seem to be restricted. Apart from this though it has friendly staff and is ideal for a couple of nights stay if you are on a budget

I must admit I was a little concerned about whether we would like the Canon d'oro, as it was the cheapest place we were staying during our holiday and well, we would have to have at lease one dud, wouldn't we? But no, it was spotless inside, the staff were great (especially the chap who spent so much time explaining a Chianti cycling route for my husband) and the ceiling fan over the bed meant the absence of air conditioning was not a problem. In all, very impressed. We didn't have time for breakfast so it is not reviewed here. Siena is a great place and if you can't find breakfast somewhere in town you shouldn't be leaving your back yard! Canon d'Oro is not for the sensitive sleeper. The street noise was amplified by the narrow stone alleyways but as the main noise was from the winning Palio team drumming and chanting their victory song, it was kind of a romantic noise. You could shut the double glazed windows if you wanted but we prefer fresh air and use industrial ear plugs! Really loved Siena and the Canon d'Oro...and we're a couple of old farts.

Great location on the main street....note that if you stay within a week or so after Palio be prepared for the festivities to carry on in the street into the wee hours. We enjoyed it thoroughly given we were hoping to catch some of the flavor of the Palio and the spirit of the contradas. Go Porcupines!

Best thing about Hotel is position. Bedroom was clean and beds very comfortable. A few small inexpensive changes would make a big difference: 1. Better quailty loo seat, not bendy plastic. 2. A shelf in the bathroom to put toiletries on. 3.China bowls for cereal, not thin disposable container! 4.Clean out the coffee urn - it was stale, stewed and lukewarm. 5. A bit of fruit at breakfast. 6. A smile from the breakfast room staff -they looked as if they hated their job.
USA, Jun 2008
We arrived early and were immediately told that we could store our luggage until the room was ready. We returned much later and found luggage was totally safe. I should have asked to use the elevator instead of luggin my heavy luggage up all of the steps - I did this at the end and it was much easier. All staff was helpful. The toilet/sink outside of our room made another accessible area for the 4 of us. We had already stayed in several hotels and were impressed with Cannon d'Oro. I had thought there was air conditioning, and in the hot weather, that would have been nice. The ceiling fan did not do much for the other 2 beds, and due to the street noise, we closed the windows 1 night and really suffered. But, it was good value for money, and the location was great-close to the town center, bus stop, and Wed. morning market.

Great location with a short stroll to the centre of town. Hotel pretty basic and you probably get a better breakfast in a local cafe, but this is everything you need to be at the heart of the city on a reasonable budget. Reception staff very welcoming with good English. Good car park a couple of minutes away, but the quickest route to the hotel is then up a very steep cobbled lane. Do NOT stay at this hotel!!! We spent 3 nights here, and I would not return even if they paid me. I've stayed better places in the heart of east Africa far removed from tourism. I phoned the hotel 4 months ahead of our stay to discuss the Rick Steve's rates, and they instructed me to continue booking through Venere and the rates would be adjusted. This was verified on arrival, but the manager laughed at me upon check-out. On arrival, we were instructed they would not aid in booking Tuscany tours unless the company used provided kickbacks to the manager. We had to book on our own for the company we ended up using. The room itself and bathroom towels wreaked of mildew and were overall dirty. There was only one electrical outlet in the entire room and none in the bathroom. The view overlooked the trash in the alley. The breakfast staff was rude. The last 2 nights a large group of young teenagers were given the room next door and shouted in the halls ALL night. They had no recommendations for eating nearby. This completely made no sense to me... they could of at least given a name of a restaurant that gave them kickbacks. They, for some unknown reason, would not provide bus location/shedule until the day following the inquiry??!! The only good thing is its excellent location. However, I did see some trash dumpsters closer to Il Campo that probably would have been more hospitable.

What a pleasant surprise! Although there was only two of us, the room they gave us could accommodate three people. And when we told them that our room did not have an overhead fan like the others, they brought us a fan. And the hair dryer they loaned me was of professional quality and very powerful. And the bathroom was wonderful! Very spacious and the shower had a powerful stream and lots of hot water. Although we were next to the breakfast room, it was ok because we could run next door, get coffee, and return to the room no problem. The room could have been quieter, but nothing will ever blot out the sound of the city doing work outside your window. Overall, I loved the hotel and will stay there again.

The hotel is in the historical center and very near the main attractions. It´s difficult to reach by car as there is traffic limitation in the area and the hotel has to be reach from the back streets, where you have to park the car. I would suggest to include this observation on the guide how to reach the hotel by car and suggest where to park (there is carpark a couple of streets at the back of the hotel).

The Cannon d'Oro is a fairly standard, no-frills, 3-star hotel. What makes it a worthwhile place to stay is its location. It is quite central - a 5 minute walk from the main sights of Siena - but is quiet at night. It is very near the bus station and easily reached from the train station by bus (to the bus station) or taxi (which should cost about 8 euro). We stayed for two days, it was fine, no complaints though if you wanted to stay for a week you might want to pay a bit more for a bigger/more comfortable room.

Very good location, right in the old town center, 300 meters from Piazza Gramsci (bus station), short walking distance to all historic places of Siena

A good if pricey hotel in the heart of Siena - everything except the train station is within easy walking distance and it is all very nice. The room in which we stayed was excellent, including a desk and television and complete with a good bathroom, the only drawback being that shower water at times ran over. But a very comfortable place overall in a splendid location.

The main issue with this hotel is that the "shower" had only surrounding curtains, and a small hole in the bathroom floor, so with even short showers the whole bathroom would become flooded and never drain adequately. Very easy to slip over thereafter. When we informed management they pretended we didn't say anything and proceeded to give us the bill.

A great cheap hotel, clean and comfortable and excellent location. Able to come and go, leaving stuff in the room and go out again. Parking was expensive though, €26 for a day and night in Lo Stadio the closest parking to the hotel around the stadium, but this is the same all around Siena.

The staff are English-speaking and very friendly. The window of our room opens onto the steet and as such the room was a bit noisy before sunset. At night it was quiet. The location of the hotel is near the post office and could be a little hard to find from the map given on Venere.

We had a great stay. It is difficult to find in a car since you cannot drive in the center, which is where it is located. The room was great and we loved how close it was to everything.
