We would definitely recommend the Hotel Borgo Grondaie and would certainly stay there again. The hotel is very charming, clean and accommodating. The front desk helped us with many things, including obtaining a reservation for the Uffizi art museum for our day trip into Florence (which proved to be a big time saver) and securing a reservation for our Brunello di Montalcino wine tour. They were also very helpful in giving us information and tips for when we went into Siena. Although the hotel is not in the heart of Siena it is not far to the city walls and is very easy to get there. We chose to visit the nearby market to get some food and wine, and decided to make ourselves dinner a couple of nights which was a very nice change of pace that would not have been possible at other hotels. All in all, I would tell someone considering this hotel to book it without hesitation.

Out of all the hotels we stayed at, this was my favorite. The grounds were beautiful-the breakfast delicious-the hotel staff brillant. Loved the food co-op that was down the street. The only consideration was the distance from the town. Next visit I would have a car to get around. There is a bus that can take you to town after a short walk.

As the place is a bit away from the town, the price could be a bit more reasonable. But in general, the stay was pleasant and very agreeable.

Of all the accommodation we stayed at during our recent trip to Europe, Borgo Grondaie was the best overall. The room itself was spacious, impeccably clean throughout and well appointed. We also enjoyed a private balcony with views to the ancient city of Siena. The breakfast was befitting of a banquet and consisted of the freshest of local produce. The large gardens and pool area were great to experience after a hot day visiting the many fantastic tourist sites that Siena has to offer. The staff of Borgo Grondaie also deserve a special mention. We would certainly stay there again.

Spent 3 nights in June 2009 at Borgo Grondaie. Lovely Hotel, very clean, very good quality room and facilities. Pool and gardens are very relaxing, and the lay out of the Hotel and grounds are very good. Would definitely stay here again.

A beautiful hotel in its own lovely gardens.helpful staff and great service. A great retreat from the city yet only a five minute bus ride away. A ten miute walk from the station but get a taxi first time until you get your bearings.our hotel room was on the small side but adequate with great air con. Super breakfast and the added bonus of a lovely swimming pool. Highly recommended

Not too easy to find - even with satnav and a map. Signposting could be improved. Very pleasant surroundings but a half hour walk to the centre and no restaurants nearby. Fine if you have a self-catering room - there is a Coop supermarket about 100m away. Friendly staff. Excellent choices at breakfast. Quite expensive.

Beautiful grounds, lovely apartment, comfortable bed, well equiped kitchen, friendly helpful service, unbelievable breakfast buffet, it was the perfect blend of city and country being located just outside the city gates but in a rural setting with olive trees, beautiful flowers, grassy terraces and gorgeous views. Highly recommended!

This is a lovely hotel. We would stay here again, no question. We had a very nice, 2 room apartment. Staff was wonderful; they were super helpful when our car battery died (3 groundskeepers to our rescue!) The distance from city center is actually a plus (much quieter location and no problems with parking) and the short taxi ride (ranging from 8-10 EU) made the center very accessible. The bus is also an option but is about a 7 min. walk from hotel and the drop off point up in the town is very inconvenient, so I definitely recommend the taxi, especially if your time is limited. After debating whether to stay in the city center, or the Borgo, I am so glad we went with the Borgo-just delightful! My cleanliness rating would have been a 10 except for significant staining on the upholstery of the pull-out sofa-my only disappointment. Tip: Be sure to check on hours for the Duomo early in the day and plan accordingly; the afternoon we planned to tour the Duomo it had closed several hours early for a special event. Also, since we had a car we were able to visit several outlying Tuscan towns-San Gimignano is a winner as is Montalcino and Montepulcino and the drive to each of them is magnificent. Pisa was not worth the drive, in my opinion, which is through industrial areas, not beautiful Tuscan countryside. If at all possible, visit Assisi in Umbria. Siena dining tip: Guidoriccio and Trattoria Papei, both quite good!

This hotel was such a find! I was nervous to book it because others had complained about the location, but we found it to be perfect. It is so close to the train station - our cab ride was only 5 euros to get there. The staff was fantastic, and for once, the online photos did NOT do this place justice. This place holds a little bit of magic. We had the 2 bedroom apartment for 2 couples. We had a FULL kitchen including dishwasher and microwave, full cabinets of dishes and pots, a table for 4, couches, and a patio outside with another table that overlooked outer Siena. The beds were clean and comfortable and the room was so pretty. And the bathroom . . . it was bigger than our last hotel room. Each bedroom had it's own bathroom, and it was fully stocked - nice glass shower and big fluffy towels. The "coop" down the street is literally 5 minutes walk and is a full on grocery store, comparable to a Kroger or Safeway here in the States. We bought everything for French Toast and Eggs and made our own breakfasts, but you can pay for breakfast at the hotel. They have a washing machine available for guests to use, you have to line or rack dry, but all of that is provided, including laundry soap - it was so nice to wash clothes after a week in Rome! The walk into historic Siena is about 15 minutes, the walk is beautiful with views of the Tuscan hillside as you get up to the wall entrances, but the hotel will happily call you a cab if you would rather not. We have decided to use this place for our home base next time we travel to Italy. We stayed in 5 hotels on our trip, this is our favorite place by far! Kids would have a blast here. You could actually have fun hanging out at the hotel with your kiddos. But it was a very beautiful and romantic place for us as well.

This is a wonderful place to stay in Siena. We followed the GPS all the way from Rome and found the hotel without a problem. The staff could not have been more helpful and offered great advice. We were able to shop at the local market and enjoy lovely meals on our terrace. I would certainly come back and stay again!

What a fabulous place! We enjoyed every moment of our stay. The apartment was exceptional and comfortable. Breakfast offerred many choices and was always fresh and attractively served. The furniture used at Borgo Grondaie was beautiful and unexpected in a hotel setting. We also found it convenient to have the Co-op within walking distance which made it possible for us to prepare dinner right in our apartment. We would definitely stay with you again.

Great hotel - reasonably priced just outside Siena walls. * Location - up on a hill, away from the rest of the city. The walk from the city center (Il Campo) to the hotel takes about 30 minutes. It is mostly downhill, except right before the hotel. If you want to take a bus, you can buy bus tickets from the reception and walk to the stop - the hotel staff will point you in the right direction with map in hand. Convenient location near Coop - this can be helpful if you want to buy some snacks for the kids or cook back in your room to save money or buy some inexpensive wine to enjoy. 5 Min walk and you're there. I actually was awoken by the chirping of birds. I don't hear that much in my part of town. * Parking - lots of free parking. Leave your car at the hotel and take the bus, no reason to pay to park your car in the city. * Staff is exceedingly helpful and speaks English if you can't understand any Italian. * Room - we had an apartment which was plenty big for our family. Very clean. Only wish it had a tub for the kids but we made the shower work just fine. * Grounds - well maintained. Enough room to play catch or roll down the hill. There was a pool, but it was covered at the time (too cold). * Tours - while we did not take advantage of them, the hotel does offer package tours. You can see many different towns in Tuscany like that, or you can drive your own car to explore.

What a fantastic place to stay! It was the least expensive place we stayed in Italy and by far the nicest. The place was immaculate and nicely furnished. There was a huge terrace off the master bedroom with incredible views. The property is beautiful to wander - very peaceful and quiet. It gives you a true taste of life in Tuscany. We loved the location because it was off the beaten track yet was accessible to all Siena has to offer. We travel without a car and were able to get around just fine. Be prepared to walk 15 to 20 minutes into town - a very hilly walk. It is great exercise but a real workout. You are able to catch buses just down the hill from the property near the grocery co-op. (very convenient as well. The laundry room was an asset as we were able to do laundry (washing machine only) at no charge. We visited for five days over Christmas and were able to find restaurants open during that time. We also made use of the very nice kitchen. There were four of us, including our two teenagers, and a REAL king bed and nice fold out double sofa in the living room. Nice flat screen TV with satellite. I would recommend this property to anyone and the staff couldn't be more delightful. If you are going to try a day trip, San Gimingiano is fantastic and maybe a 90 minute bus trip. Really beautiful.

They left off the Hotel's street number (15), so when I put it in my GPS, we went around the area for a while. Their directions only became clear after we found the all but hidden drive around the COOP (which was a very good grocery store). Full kitchen (but no oven or microwave) was nice along with the close grocery store. We made several meals and they actually cooked the pizzas we bought before we realized there was no oven. The actual hotel grounds were very nice, but the area around it was just so-so. Sofa bed was very comfortable, my adult daughters said. Nice little patio outside master bedroom. Staff was very helpful.

Great family run hotel! Beautiful well kept grounds. Double room was spacious and comfortable. Personnel were pleasant, friendly, spoke Italian and English, and very helpful with area sites and directions. Breakfast was excellent. On site parking provided. A 10 minute drive to parking lot for Siena city wall entry point. About a 20-30 minute walk. Will stay here again. Written directions provided can be improved. However, my Garmin GPS navigator took us right to the property.

This hotel is excellent. The only reason it is the price that it is, is because it is in a slightly odd location. However, that means you get a place set in its own grounds, on the side of a wooded hill (we didn't brave the outdoor swimming in October). The staff were all personable and helpful, directions when we went out for a drive in the countryside were spot on and breakfast and the room were both really good. The debate about how long it takes to walk into the historical centre seems a bit pointless - if you've got a car, you will get directions to a strategically placed car park 3 minutes drive away, if not - catch the bus! there are at least 3 services that call at the stop nearby. We used both forms of transport during our 3 night stay and it worked out fine.

This is a beautiful place to stay if you're in Siena. Unfortunately, at end of September, it was too cold to make use of the lovely pool. Beware also, if you travel in autumn, Italian Government law prevents establishments from putting the heating on until November 1st! If you prefer warm rooms, bring a jumper! The place certainly lived up to my expectations.

Travelled with a group of 7. We rented two apartments. They were great. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. They assisted us with several restaurant reservations and lots of directions and every time was excellent. This is a nice country villa outside Siena, only 2 minutes drive from the San Francesco entrance to the old city. The problem is, that even with GPS, the first two times it was un-findable! Directions were quite poor, and signs at the street level were pointed in the wrong direction of a a 5 way roundabout (which I must have gone through a dozen times before finding it the first time). Bathroom was good, room size was fine. A little more rustic than I like generally, and for rustic, it seems to me, given the competition for other places to stay, could have been cheaper for what you get. Use of the washing machine an excellent bonus midway through our trip.

What a great find for our family. Once we found the place, we fell in love with it. It has a great welcoming reception room with a charming little terrace section to eat breakfast and to drink brunello in the late afternoon/evening. Our room was spacious with a nice kitchen and roomy, modern bathroom. The pool was great and Borgo Grondaie even has a washer for clothes and "lines" to air dry them. The location is 5 minutes to the center of Siena and right next door to the COOP to buy food, if needed. When traveling to Tuscany again, we would definitely come back!

Hotel is difficult to find following the indication given on the home page. If you get close to the hotel follow the sign COOP, pass the bridge with the arch to reach COOP and then just pass by to the hotel. Room was nice, welcome professional and friendly. Pool was clean and well equipped. To reach the center you need ca. 20-30 min by foot. Parking is rather difficult. Overall, we could manage to see all major areas in 2 days.

Nice welcome and very convenient to go to the center of Florence (bus stop very close). The room was spacious and clean. This is a jewel of a hotel. It is a 15 minute walk to the gates of the old city. The gardens and flowers and tranquility at Borgo were outstanding. A beautiful pool surrounded by massive white rose bushes was a welcome rest after a day in Siena. The best buffet breakfast we had in Italy, outperforming two 4 star locations. As a bonus, there is a washing machine available 24 hours and outside clothes lines. If it rains, the housekeepers remove the clothes for you! Great service and friendly helpful staff. Hotel Borgo Grondaie was a welcoming and well run hotel. It is beautifully presented and located in delightful grounds. It is a 20 minute walk to the old town and a 15 minute walk to the station although on arrival getting a taxi (about six euros) is a good idea until you become familiar with the location. We drove to Siena from Florence and had no difficulty locating the hotel. The directions given on the website were very clear and there were a number of signposts for the hotel along the road as we approached Siena. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment and found it perfect for our family of 5. The apartment was very clean, well heated, and the bathroom and kitchen facilities were very good. We stayed at Borgo Grondaie with a large family of 4 persons, including 2 young children (one a 17-month old baby). The "appartamento" we stayed in was just wonderful. After long walks in the old city of Siena, our 5-year-old daughter said "Let's go home", commenting that the hotel's appartment we stayed in looked like home...Breakfast was excellent. And the really important tip for families with young children like us, was the fact the "Coop" supermarket was so close to the hotel. Siena will be unforgettable for its beauty and this hotel...

The hotel and staff were actually very good - I felt very welcome and I would recommend the hotel as a good value. Rooms are good sized, very nice baths, not much interior public space (important in winter), but the hotel grounds are beautiful. The pool and enoteca were closed during my stay. Unfortunately, the descriptions of access to Siena are a bit misleading - especially for winter travelers. I was expecting a cosy spot with close access to the city center. The walk is actually more complicated - through a big shopping center and across a major highway, and needless to say, up a hill to reach the city walls. The hotel is very close to the train station - but not easily walked with luggage due to road configurations. It could be a big plus for the hotel if this was addressed. This is a great hotel for travelers with cars.

Beautiful setting; really nice rooms; friendly, helpful staff. Location near COOP supermarket a real plus. Hood access to Siena and routes to other Tuscan tourist sites.

The hotel was easy to find with the web explanations. Unfortunately the neighbourhood is not so romantic (the access is from a supermarket parking...) and our room was really small and with old furniture. Excellent warm swimming pool!

Family of five. Stayed in a two bedroom apartment. The cleanliness of rooms, outdoor areas and pool was outstanding. The staff were very helpful when required. Close to co-op for food shopping. Quiet surroundings but still only a short drive to the city centre. Had no problems finding the place. We thought this was great value for money and would stay there again.

I found this place through your web page and I decided on staying here based on the comments I read from others. I hope my comments help others choose Borgo Grondaie.... it was grand. We had an "apartment" (2 bedrooms, living room/kitchen area) and 6 people. Worked out well (well, the women would have liked a second bathroom). Great place; great location; nice grounds; nice pool!

Lovely gardens. Free washer with soap really was handy as we were midway in our trip. Really the only negative was the location. We walked it a couple of times but much better to do a 10E taxi. Our two bedroom apartment was more accurately a one bedroom with a sofa bed in the living room. Breakfast was an extra 8E.

This hotel was fantastic. We paid 145 euros for a beautiful room and the grounds of the hotel were stunning including the pool area. It takes 5 minutes to get into Sienna which is also sensational. The staff were very helpful and we could not believe the the variety at breakfast. We only had 1 night here but would definitely go back and use this hotel as a base for further travelling.

Excellent hotel in beautiful surroundings and very welcoming. Swimming pool is very pleasant and the area is very quiet despite it's proximity to the town. It takes 20 minutes to walk to the old town so it may not suit those who neither like walking nor like paying for taxis. The return walk is easy at night as it is all downhill. One suggestion: READ the map before going. You really do have to go into the COOP car park and out the far side.

Not only a wonderful hotel but also centrally located. Train station, COOP(large grocery store) Siena Central not to mention all the surrounding cities within an hours drive. Traveling with a little one, 3yrs, this property gave them lots of SAFE yard space to burn all kinds of energy. SPECIAL NOTE: they just got new beds!

This was a wonderful hotel. It was just as described on the website. The front desk staff were so friendly and helpful. They had loads of information about train schedules, local tours, places to eat, etc. and were always happy to make reservations. There was always a sense that the guest was important to them. Breakfast was wonderful - lots of variety each morning. The hotel had the best "American" coffee in Italy (even though I'm a Canadian). The wait staff in the breakfast area was super! The walk into the centre of Siena was about 20 minutes and being a walker, this was certainly no hardship. There was a local bus service just at the bottom of the hill where the hotel is located. Contrary to the reservation info, the room was serviced each day and thoroughly cleaned. What a nice touch having free washing facilities and an outdoor clothes line. Grounds around the building were very well maintained and just created a relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful meals in Siena and the pizza place suggested by the front desk became a favourite. I stayed five days and one more day would have made me feel as though I had my very own Italian villa. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

This is a superior facility in every way. The walk into the walled city was a little longer than ideal, but really no problem. Breakfast was the best we had in ten hotels in Italy, and the rooms and staff were outstanding. The grounds gave the place the feel of a resort, and the pool looked very inviting, but was not yet open for used for the season when we were there.

We loved staying at Borgo Grondaie. It's a great location: just outside of Siena, easy to find from road signs, because its proximity to the Stazione, a good location from which to explore Tuscany. The rooms had modern conveniences, but were charming. The breakfast was great - lots of delicious options: fruit, cheese, meats, breads, yogurt, cereal, cakes, juices, etc... Staff was friendly. Grounds were beautiful - unfortunately the weather in March was a bit cool to take advantage of them. Clothes washer onsite was a plus (dryer would have been nice, but not a detractor!). Onsite internet access was very convenient. We were very pleased with our stay, would definitely recommend it and would stay here again. We were staying here during low season, which was a great value.

To begin, this place is hard to find, but considering the experience(s) that we had here, it should be hard to find. This is one of the best three star hotels we have ever stayed in. The rooms are clean! The breakfast is very large and of a wide variety. The Cappuccinos were very good (but you must ask for one). The facility provides a washing machine for guests to use (for free). The grounds are very quiet and well maintained. To have a glass of wine and watch the sun set one the outside tables is a treat and the staff had great recommendations for what to do and where to eat. Ahhh Siena, We miss you and Hotel Borgo Grondaie! We will be back!

We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment and loved it! The staff was warm, welcoming, and exceptionally helpful. We arrived on New Year's day, a holiday, and the staff went out of their way to be sure we had the groceries we needed as the stores were closed. Email correspondence leading up to our stay was incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a large terrace from which we could see a lovely view of Siena and the surrounding countryside. Since it's on the other side of the main part of Siena from the railroad, the station was part of the view, although there was no problem with noise or pollution from the trains at all. We could hear other families (a lot of yelling at a small child who cried a great deal) but otherwise it was a quiet setting. We were able to walk from the hotel to the main square in 1/2 hour-45 minutes and once on the other side of the railroad the walk was absolutely lovely. Oh and internet access was available in the main office at an extremely reasonable cost. We would absolutely stay at Hotel Borgo Grondaie should we return to Siena!

Very beautiful hotel! Really we had a very confortable flat with a kitchen (and not a single room). Ideal for my family with 2 adults and 2 young girl. Not too far to the center of Siena: you could join it walking, but it was also very easy to take a bus and spare your energy for the visit of the town. The breakfast (with an extra cost of 8 euro per people) was excellent, with salumi, cheese, sweet and salad cakes and everything else.

We had a very pleasant stay at new year's eve at the Borgo Grondaie. I think the hotel description on the site and the numerous reviews give an accurate picture. Our room was very clean (rather recently renovated, I think) and quiet, although not that big. Hotel staff is very, very friendly and helpful - it's hard to imagine that anyone could do better. The only point that potential visitors should be aware of is the hotel's location: outside the center of Siena, next to a big coop (which can also be seen as an advantage) and railway tracks (we didn't have noise from trains). For us it was too far to walk to the center, so if you don't have a car, you need a taxi (I think there are also some buses). The hotel has no restaurant, so you have to go out to eat (or buy food at coop). As others indicated, the hotel is hard to find: you won't expect to find a hotel at the end of that narrow road between coop and the tracks.

Pretty pleased with this - more or less as advertised. We were there in the cold and wet, and it was still an agreeable place. I think in better weather, when you could spend some time sitting in the attractive grounds, it would be even better. It's easier to find than some comments suggest -well signposted once you get within a kilometre or so. Bus service into town is very quick and simple. Unfortunately we were wrongly advised about one of the bus numbers coming back. This had disastrous consequences as we ended up way off track, were too late to get to Pisa for our flight and ended up staying an extra night there before catching Ryanair at 6 in the morning the next day! Good recommendations from the proprietor on restaurants in town. But you take a risk if you don't book. If you have a car - go to the Chianti Sculpture Park, a really wonderful experience. Overall, would definitely recommend this hotel. I think we'd take one of the apartments next time - just for the space.

The rooms are too small but when I asked for a bigger room, I was given an appartment With breakfast and hotel service at no extra charge( terrace 1 )Big, Confortable and nicely furnished, the bathrooms are brand new, everything perfectly clean. The front desk ladies Amina and Gaia, friendly and competent. The best way to go to town is by taxi, both ways, about 5 euros each way, never a wait of more than 5 minutes for the taxi. Loved the place and would certaily go back again

By far our favorite hotel during our two week trip to Italy. Beautiful, peaceful surroundings. A lovely room and an excellent breakfast spread presided over by a very gracious woman who made great cappuccinos. A little extra noise in the rooms because of the tile floors, but not too bad. Our building was non-smoking which was greatly appreciated. Internet access in the lobby was very helpful for changing a future reservation. Town is a 25 minute walk away which was fine for us. If you're not a walker, a taxi is a better option. Siena is a wondeful destination and we would absolutely stay here again. next time we'll rent a car and see more countryside.

My response to "photographs" was less than "10" only because the photo's do not reveal the true beauty of the hotel and its surrounding property. My wife and I look forward to our next stay at this facility and recommend it highly to our friends. Thank you for the wonderful time.

Loved this hotel. Room and bath spacious, modern and well appointed. We were in a room, but did look at the apartments, and they too were the same. The kitchens appeared really nice with lots of pretty tile and modern appliances. The staff was great;very helpful with suggestions and reservations for wineries, etc. Laundry facilities very helpful. I would suggest a car because hotel is a 5-10 minute drive to parking facility at the entrance to the old city. Not difficult with a car, but seemed a distance without. We stayed three nights instead of one becasue we were so comfortable that we decided to use as a base to explore other areas of Tuscany.

The reviews I read before making my reservation were very complimentary and that, and the location, were the reasons for my choice. The Borgo Grondaie was beyond our expectations in every way. I would highly recommend it. I am very grateful to the reviewer who gave directions to finding the hotel. Follow the signs to the railway station, cross the metal spanned bridge and drive past the Coop. Those three items probably saved us 1/2 hour of searching. Thank you.

A small hotel converted from an old farm/estate. This hotel can be very difficult to find initally but once you arrive and get your bearings it's ok. The suuoundings are lovely a real country feel yet within view of the walls of Siena. Breakfast was just ok, the staff was friendly but offered no help with the luggage even though it was raining when we arrived. The real problem with this hotel is that even though it seems close to the sights it's still not within walking distance of Siena or even any restaurants. You will need a car here or use taxi service. This is case where the benefits, country surroundings, can also be a negitave, distance.

Borgo Grandaie offers a peaceful and spacious vacation within a vacation. We came to it midway through our holiday, and it offered a relaxing retreat from our tour of big cities. BG is outside the walls of Siena and is a half hour walk into town (or 10 minute bus ride). The hotel is a beautiful, renovated Tuscan farm property, offering a pool, laundry facility, picnic tables, and plenty of space to relax. The breakfast offered lots of variety. The staff was pleasant and helpful. But saying all that, we found that the hotel was a bit pricy when we compared it to the other hotels we stayed in while in Italy. Really for the rate we paid, there was no need to charge for a towel for swimming.

Hotel is a completely reburbished collection of farm buildings in an area outside of Siena but within a small olive growing area. Reburbishment has been very well done, maybe taking a bit of the character away from the original buildings, but none-the-less comfortable. Central Siena is about 20-25 minutes walk, but the trip isn't that pleasant, since it involves negotiating busy roads and railway bridges, but at least you have got a COOP within 5 minutes walk if you want to picnic in the hotel's garden. The garden was our favourite area, consisting of olive trees, lush lawn and a well-cared-for swimming pool. Overall, a very stay. Perhaps a little more expensive than we would normally spend but it was our honeymoon...

The people here were very nice and very helpful. The apartment we had was very spacious and complete with stove, etc. Very comfortable. We needed a car to tour Tuscany and they got one delivered to the hotel for us at a very reasonable price. They booked wine tours and recommended a great ristorante (Taverna di San Guiseppe). The pool was great! I would definitely stay here again. The only criticism I would give is that they could provide a better map or instructions on how to get to their place on their web page. They are close to the train station, BUT you cannot hear the trains or see them, so the Taxi fare is very reasonable! Grocery shopping is very convenient, with a nice and very large COOP supermarket within walking distance, just down the road.

My husband and I really enjoyed these accomodations and the city of Siena. This place is very quaint, quiet and has beautiful surroundings. There is no restaurant at the hotel but every night they have a little something like wine tasting. One a week they have a local chef come and prepare a special evening meal that you pay a flat rate for. I suggest that you go for it - the food was wonderful and a reasonable price. And being in the heart of Tuscany, make sure to take in the wine. The hotel is a little tricky to get to, but once you hit the COOP store there is a small road side sign pointing you in the right direction. And unlike many of the larger city taking a taxi here is relatively cheap and you can go almost anywhere in and around town for 10 euro.

We noted comments from other visitors on your site about how to find the hotel and were prepared for some problems. However if you follow signs to the station and then look for the bridge over the railway with the metal arch and then look for the Coop (which has an arched roof that looks rather like a railway station itself), then it should not be too bad. It was also signposted from the direction we approached (from San Gimignano). The walk to the city wall was 25 minutes(up hill and through residential suburbs & high rise flats)and a further 15 minutes to the Campo. We only did this once and after that we used taxis both ways (€5-€10 a time). Reception called us taxis in to Siena when needed. The hotel provided slippers and the breakfast was excellent. It was ideal for unwinding as the grounds were lovely and after a week travelling we needed a rest.

We had some difficulty getting from the train station to the hotel. I would recommend if you are getting at night call directly to the hotel first, they will give you directions if you would like to walk. Perfect location for a day trips to Florence and Pisa. The staff were extremely helpful and nice. Our laugage was lost for three days, they did super job by calling every 10 min to the airport in Rome trying to track it. The breakfast was tasty, except coffee. We felt like the only people who stayed there, very quite and relax. Enjoy!

How to reach Hotel Borgo Grondaie

By car
From the South: from the A1 motorway, exit at Val di Chiana, and follow the indications for Siena. When you reach Siena, just before the railway station, you will find a modern bridge with an iron arch on the right. Cross the bridge and turn onto the driveway leading to the COOP supermarket. Follow along the uphill road behind the store until you reach the Borgo Grondaie hotel.

From the North: from the A1 motorway, take the Firenze Certosa exit and merge onto the Firenze-Siena beltway. Take the Siena Nord exit and then follow the indications for Siena railway station. When you reach the station (on your right), follow along until the roundabout. Please note: don't cross the bridge with the iron arch on your right, but take immediate right onto the driveway leading you to the COOP supermarket. Go past the store (on your left) and follow the indications to the Borgo Grondaie hotel.

By train
The hotel is only 1 km/0.62 miles away from Siena railway station. If you arrive by train or bus, we suggest you to take a taxi from the railway station, to avoid the steep uphill road.
