small but beatifully appointed hotel, excellant staff and the room was good. Unfortunately the restuarant was shut the evening we stayed but it looked nice, it wasnt a problem though as there was a good restuarant just 100m away. If I was in the area again I definetely wouldn't look anywhere else as it really was that good

The service in this hotel is one of the best we've every received. The breakfast room is lovely and the multilingual staff was wonderful. Special compliments to the staff working April 25-26, 2008. After we checked out of the hotel we had a problem with our car. Knowing no one in the area, we called the hotel staff. They were amazing! They arranged taxis, allowed my mother and son to stay in the lobby while my husband and I sorted out the car issue, helped us arrange transportation to Florence, stored our luggage to be picked up days later... We were facing extraordinary circumstances, and the staff rose to extraordinary levels to assist us. I have never been more impressed! Thank you Arcobaleno!

Not as close to "downtown" Siena as expected, at least a 15 min walk to Siena gate/entrance with very busy, load road to walk along

Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was good. The surrounding gardens and sit down area were excellent. Room, however, was quite small. The property was quite a distance from any meaningful restaurant that was open before 7.30 pm, difficult to get a meal at what we considered to be a reasonable time.

At day-time lots of buses go by, but after 8 p.m there are just one ore two possible start from Siena centre (Piazza Antonio Gramsci bus station). Check the buses on the monitor at the nearest bus stop. We walked, since the receptionist provided false information...

Needed bit of help with directions from Montalcino, but polizia very accommodating! Ended up following the signs to the 'ospedale' (hospital) and suddenly there it was just around the corner. Hotel a good half hour walk from Campo, but preferred that to waiting for buses. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Free internet in lobby with comfortable sitting area. Great breakfast. Ate in local restaurant for dinner as city centre too far away. Our room was well appointed, though as usual the bathroom was small and the shower tiny, but there was plenty of hot water so no complaints. Even though on a main road there was no noise at night due to double glazing, shutters and heavy drapes. Parking was tight so recommend a small car! We chose to walk everywhere rather than battle traffic and then find and pay for parking closer to the centre. The hotel was perfectly placed for our departure north-west to Monteriggioni and San Gimignano.

It is an excellent hotel, very good standing, very professional, with a very tasty breakfast included in the price as well as the parking lot, but it's a 30 min. walk to the Piazza del Campo - 15 to the old town gate and then 15 min. more to get there. However, it's a nice walk, especially intra muros.

Reasonably close to old city, buses nearby if no car, would definitely stay there again when next in Siena. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful and no trouble communicating and booked all excursions. Christiana was a standout and a pleasure to get to know.

We are a young couple traveling on motorbike. Needed a place to stay overnight and have a quick look in Siena, on our way across Tuscany. The hotel is bikers friendly, not in the historical center (that means easy access) but in walking distance from it (20-25min-that means no need to use the bike) and most importantly with a private parking yard-away from public eye.Clean, cosy, ok breakfast (not continental), polite staff, small room, ok price for the season (75e for a double).Recommended.

This was our favourite of the trip, the staff were lovely and we felt very much at home in this hotel, which compensated for being a bit further from the centre than we had realised. Also it is very quiet despite being on the main road. Only downside, the hotel restaurant was being renovated and there are not many restaurants within strolling distance.

We loved our stay at the Arcobaleno, the staff really made us feel like family. They were so friendly and helpful! We esp. loved the table in the front area outside, it was quite pleasant to eat there for breakfast or a picnic dinner. It's a lovely hotel. The only downsides I think were location far from the city center -- but we were able to take the city bus back and forth -- and the fact that it no longer has a restaurant on the premises. But we went to a trattoria nearby which was good. I'd stay here again. We met so many people here and even met people on the city bus.

The 4 rooms we saw are a bit dark, but clean and comfortable, but showers small, although clean and modern. A bit noisy with windows open, but only to be expected for it's position close to the city. It's a 25 min flat walk to centre of Sienna, or 10 mins by bus (cheap & regular). Hotel has good parking. Breakfasts are basic Italian - rolls butter jam & cakes + coffee, but nice setting. No restaurants of note nearby, but you'd eat in Sienna (the Campo-square) anyway. Directions are not very clear, easiest way is to go to the main train station and continue along that road as it goes up a hill. Hotel is on the left just before a main junction.

Neat establishment, topped by superb hospitality. Not close enough to walk to Sienna sites, but buses are ok until 10pm. If I return to Sienna, I'll stay closer -- with 1 km walking distance from sites of interest -- not at the Arcobaleno. Had I a car during our stay my review would be better.

You have to stay at this hotel just for their in-house restaurant which has probably some of the best food in Italy. We were so impressed, we ate there both nights that we stayed there and enjoyed the food immensely. Although the hotel is outside of the walled city of Siena, it is only a 20 minute walk away, it has lovely views over the Tuscan hills and the staff are very friendly and helfpul (and multilingual).

We spent 8 nights with a rental car (thru Kenwell, highly recommended) touring Tuscany. Arcobaleno is ideally located for travelers with cars and even provides free parking. Although it's within level walking distance to the center of walled Siena, we always took the inexpensive and convenient bus -- about a 5 min. walk from the hotel. The restaurant below the hotel's lobby was very good and reasonably priced; we found it convenient for many dinners after spending a full day exporing Tuscany's many charming villages and wineries. The breakfast buffet was of very high quality and much larger than most in Italy. The entire staff was friendly and very helpful. Of the negative comments posted, we would agree with only two: (1)the odd shower is very small and a very large person might have difficulty, and (2) the hotel is not easy to find by following their instructions. However, you only need to find it once. And, we did not notice the vehicle noise from the busy streets adjacent to the hotel. We would give our highest recommendations for the Arcobaleno for those using it as a home base to tour Tuscany by car. However, if we were only planning to visit Siena for a day or so, we would instead choose a B & B within the walled city.

The easy access to the bus stop, train station, and feeder roads to the Chianti region made this hotel's location excellent. The restuarants food was delicious and inexpensive. The hotel day manager, Lucca, was friendly, helpful, by far the nicest we had in 4 cities. He made this hotel stay our favorite.

Would recommend this property as a good value. Not easy to find, as the viamichelin directions are not always perfect. A good base for daytrips. Good restaurants nearby(heading away from Siena on the left is an"pizza" place that has excellent pizza and pasta, meats etc.). The bus stop is a short walk down the street, and the service is regular.
USA, May 2008
This hotel is small and charming....very convenient to the train station. To walk to the historic city takes about 10-15 minutes. It is on a busy street but the room was fairly quiet. The staff was very nice & couldn't be more helpful. There is an excellent restaurant downstairs where we had a great dinner our first night in town. The shower stall was one of the smallest we encountered on our trip but had good water pressure. We enjoyed this hotel because it was cozy. The public areas are very comfty and enjoyable. Breakfast was good (typical) but they will make you a cappuccino to order!

Siena is a beautiful place!!! You will not realize its beauty until you walk up the hill to the old city. Explore, explore, explore. We walked every where we went in Siena and I mean we walked every where. Siena is a must see in Italy. Arcobaleno is about a 15 minute walk to the beautiful city. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train/bus station. You will notice a sign outside the station,to your right, go to your right. You will walk up the street and come to a major intersection, cross the intersection and continue straight up the street. Do not turn. Keep going!! The hotel is on the left side of the street, so, you have to cross the street then go up some stairs, go right, around a corner, and you will find the entrance.

Clean, beautifully decorated, spacious, good parking extremely friendly staff, outstanding buffet breakfast in lovely glassed in porch. Convenient attached resturant was good. Five minute walk to bus stop made Siena access easy. (buy tickets at the fruit market across from bus stop). Disclosure: hotel is located between two busy roads that can make it initially difficult to find and access . However, once located access and parking were easy. (We parked in the large resturant lot below.) This was our first time driving in Italy. We used our Garmin GPS with Europe card. This made driving fun and easy. We would definately stay at this hotel again.

We stayed at the Arcobaleno for one night which was quite enough! we had booked for three, but left early due to the fact outside our dull and dreary room (which was on a busy main road) a manhole cover clanked all night!! The instructions to find the hotel where so poor it took us 2 hours to find. The price of the hotel was very expensive for the services provided, this is one place we will not be visiting again

We were very pleased with our stay at Hotel Arcobaleno. The hotel was actually much closer to the old city than I had anticipated. The staff was welcoming and helpful in giving directions, helping with tours, and recommending restaurants. A plus was the restaurant located on the hotel's property; it was obviously a local favorite, and the food was quite good and reasonable for Siena. Our only negative would be the shower--it was very small; a large man would have trouble negotiating it.

Clean, modern, with very helpful English speaking staff. A great restaurant downstairs with better prices than you would find in town. It is 2.5 Km. from the town, which can be easily reached by bus #11 or bus #4 to the train station. Excellent breakfast for Italy. The walls are paper thin. My wife was kept up all night by the guy in the next room snoring loudly. You can hear "everything".

The only bad thing I can think of about this hotel is that it is very hard to locate. We gave up in the end, parked and walked to where it was. We stayed for 6 nights from Jun 13 07 and had a wonderful time. The staff were extremely helpful and they enabled us to visit places we would never even have known about otherwise. The restaurant which is on the same site, but I don't know if they own it, was very good. The food was excellent and the menu comprehensive. The waiters could be a little non communicative though. I would agree with some other comments re the size of the shower - not for the larger person. This is a place I would definitely stay again.

What a great hotel. The girl at the desk was super helpful with making dinner reservations and directing us to a local public pool. Room was great. Only problem was that onsite parking for car was kind of cramped. We took the bus to downtown as it is quite a distance to walk from here, but this was easy.

Arcobaleno is a nice property located away from both the historic center as well as the business center. There is some traffic noise as the hotel is situated in a "triangle" between 2 busy streets - but the noise was not really a bother. Contrary to other reviews, we did not have much trouble finding Arcobaleno as we entered Sienna from the north (Firenze) direction. From the south is another story as we found Siena in general a very confusing city in which to drive. The front desk staff was extremely helpful with dinner recommendations and advice on where to visit and when. The common areas were wonderful with a comfortable gathering lobby, screened porch breakfast area, and a very good and brightly lit restaurant on the lower level. There was also a large table with umbrella in the front courtyard - a perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine at days end. The restaurant was a godsend as we dined there 2 of our 3 nights in Siena and didn't have to venture back into the city to try to find an eating establishment. Our room as on the small side, bathroom as well, but that seemed to be true of many of the hotels we visited. All in all, we found Arcobaleno a great find for the money.
Mature couple
United Kingdom, May 2007
The Arcobaleno was all that we hoped it would be. It is small and friendly with helpful staff. We were in the main building and the room and bathroom though not large were perfectly adequate and spotlessly clean. It is a 20 minute level walk to the gates of Siena. We can recommend the restaurant under the hotel.

We had a hard time finding the hotel with the directions that we had. The only thing that saved us was I remembered the picture that showed the parking lot. I thought it would have been in a more rural area. The bus stop was close to get into the main area of Siena and there was ample parking in the back. The parking in the front of the hotel was a little tight. If the parking lot was full you would get in there (behind another building) and have to try and back out onto a fairly busy street.

I would recommend this hotel on the merits of the helpful staff, the location, and the comfort level that they provide. I must admit that when I arrived in Siena, I was unfortunately ill. I have never seen a staff go out of their way as much as this one did to try to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They helped in every way imaginable, and went above and beyond their duty helping me get better, and feel better.

Great hotel in great location (although not within walking distance of any major attractions). Wireless internet requires paying by the hour. Cappucino is free 24/7 and very tasty. The staff was friendly, the room very clean and comfortable (not luxurious but very decent by any mean). While a little noisy in daytime (well, what do you expect from a city hotel...) it quieted down nicely at night and was perfect. Breakfast is buffet style (all you can eat) with a rather good selection for a European breakfast. Good coffee served by amicable and smiling staff. Nice complimentary lounge if you wan a drink before supper. The hotel, while approximately one km from the walled town, is actually very nicely located if you use it as a base to travel in the nearby Chianti, Le Crete, etc. by car. You can also take the bus (which runs approx. 10-12x a day) 200m away to Florence for 6.5E. (which saves you the aggravation of parking in Florence...). And there is a nice, rather inexpensive restaurant(for Italy)in the basement which serves great food (mostly...:)). All in all, we loved it and would recommend it and return if we ever need a room in Siena again. Oh, as a side note...we stayed for 10 nights...so we had plenty of time to make our judgement...and I forgot...they got a private parking! which means peace of mind for your rental...:)

This is a great place to stay in Sienna. We stayed 2 nights. The directions to get there on Venere could be a bit better though. Luca, the manager, was extremely welcoming and helpful - pointing out good places to eat in the town, and even reserving a table for us! He also showed us some great places to visit on our onward journey. The room was as good as anything we have stayed in in Italy. The only minor gripe was that the shower was quite small and you had to be careful not to slip. One major plus is the restaurant downstairs. We had our best meal of the week in there. Highly recommended. We'll be back! Thank you Lucca.

This was hotel was by far the best we stayed in during our entire trip! Luca was such as pleasure to deal with. Before we could even ask he had maps out and was telling how to get to the main part of the city as well as things that were a must see. He also recommended a GREAT resteraunt for us that was amazing. The hotel was clean and our room was very spacious. The breakfast in the morning was very good and had a decent variety. We took a taxi from the train station, only 7 euro - it was worth it with luggage. Other than that the walk to the main part of the city was very easy and safe. Our only regret was that we stayed there only one night! Many thanks again to Luca for his wonderful hospitality!! Kyra and Dave Mancini

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was very clean and well presented. The plus points were the availability of parking and the ease of getting onto the main roads in and out of Siena. The only drawbacks were the distance from Siena town centre (20 to 30 minutes walking) and as the hotel is sandwiched between two main roads, the traffic noise (with the windows open) and the fact the bathroom had mould on the ceiling.

This was such a lovely suprise. The welcome from Luca and the other staff was second to none. They were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them.Even us having a drink later in the evening after a night out, the bar was available to us. Hotel was so clean and homely. We stayed in the annexe with automatic front door opening and hall lights.Breakfast was good and varied in a lovely covered terrace outside.Very good value for money, would definitely recommend. Deserves more than three star grade.Siena was walkable but a good 15 walk to outer wall and another 15 mins to centre along main road and we're aged 47 and 55.Not a problem you can drive in and there are enough car parks.Get Luca to tell you. He knows everything about the area.

The sign is small, so easy to miss driving by. Colorful flags at the gate help if you know to look for them. No elevator in our building. Don't know if second building has one. Probably not. Bus stop one block away (buy ticket at tobacco shop) to go to city center. Ask staff about bus numbers and retun bus info. Easy if you know name of stop so you can ask bus driver if correct bus. Otherwise you may end up going the long way around. Hotel staff was very nice and helpful. Arranged for a load of laundry to be done off premises. Breakfast typical. Restaurant was good, but not great.

This is a very nice Hotel. Reception desk staff were fantasic. They had great recommendations for restaurants and the food at the on site restaurant was excellent. Breakfast very good, excellent capuccinos! Hotel rooms are of course small by North American standards, but hotel is beautifully appointed and clean. Parking in top lot a challenge, but plenty of parking down below. About a 15 minute walk to main gate into Siena, first 1/4 mile a challenge as there is no sidewalk and plenty of traffic. Taxi an easy and not too expensive option. Siena is magnificent as are so many of the surrounding towns; San Gimiginano, Volterra.

The staff were very welcoming, warm and cheerful. The hotel's restaurant was very good, we only ate out once! I would have reservations about the walk into the city if children or any infirm people were involved. We had no problems with it but the initial stretch from the hotel is along a narrow pavement on a busy road. I will happily return to this hotel next time I am in Sienna

Although we had some difficulty finding the hotel due to incorrect directions, once there we enjoyed the hotel and it's convenient location. It is on a busy thorough fare but our room was very quiet. The staff was extremely helpful, even calling our previous hotel for us at no charge when we discovered that we had left a camera there. Definitely recommend this hotel!

This Hotel was very good. I should mention that I am handicapped, I walk with a walking stick and do not do well with stairs. The promotion said Handicap friendly so I assumed there was a lift. There is no lift so if you have trouble with stairs tell them up front so they can assist you. Turns out with their help I made it fine. I will not assume in the future and will tell each hotel that I have problems climbing many stairs.

The hotel was a very good choice to stay in. I am glad it was no further from the old city of Siena as it took us 20 minutes to walk to the gates. The receptionist didn't recommend the bus service but I feel we should have been told where to catch the bus and given a timetable.

Very nice hotel with VERY friendly and competent staff, speaking excellent English. Breakfast is not too good, although not bad either... The biggest issue is the distance from the downtown. It's 15-20 min walking fast!

The welcome we received on our arrival at the arcobaleno was excellent. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We took a taxi to the main square for a short walk to the Piazza del Campo. We had a super holiday and we cant praise the staff enough. If I am lucky enough to go back to this wonderful city the Arcobaleno will be where I am staying.

This hotel is located near downtown Sienna. The room was clean and comfortable, but a little on the small side. The hotel clerk took the time to make sure we knew how to get to our destinations. He was very knowledgeable and charming. It is not a short walk to the Campo – take a taxi. Breakfast was the usual coffee, juice, rolls, and yogurt.

The Hotel Arcobaleno is a gem! This hotel was a welcome sight after the hustle and noise of Florence! We were welcomed with a smile and handshake by the owner and shown to a lovely room. The property is situated off of a main street leading right into Siena. A few reviewers have made the comment that it was a noise street, but that has no impact on the hotel. The traffic is not all night long and you cannot hear the traffic from the rooms or the public areas. The patio is a lovely place to sit and have a glass of wine. We walked into Siena from the hotel twice and found it an easy 20 minute walk to the outer wall and 30 minutes to the campo. Do yourself a favor, do not waste the time and energy trying to stay inside the walls. Parking is hard and the hotels are expensive. The hotel Arcobaleno (means rainbow in Italian) is a GREAT hotel!

We liked the location just outside the city. Every morning we walked in the hills above town for spectacular views. Breakfast and cappuchino were very good and the restaurant beneath the hotel was very tasty too. We especially like the young enthusiastic and friendly staff, Claudia, Christiana and the young man who leaned over the counter and kissed me when I said I would write a good review! Wonderful hotel and wonderful staff. We had a truely great stay at the Arcobaleno. The rooms were spotless and comfortable and I did not mind the walk into the old town. The only caution I would give is that if you are coming by car, the directions given by Venere are too vague, and it is best to park in the back lot, not up front. Would stay there again, in a hearbeat, because of the warm staff and the lovely little breakfast given each morning, complete with made to order cappucinos.

The Arcoballino was a great place to stay. It is a fair distance from town, but only an 8 Euro cab ride. Parking was good and the desk clerk was especially helpful.
