exterior - entrance Hotel Antica Torre exterior - entrance The hotel Antica Torre is ideally situated in the historic centre of Siena, 10 minutes on foot from the prestigious Piazza del Campo medieval square and Duomo square with the cathedral, one of the best examples of Gothic style in Italy. Also, the Santa Maria della Scala museum, splendid synthesis of the city and its history, lies within walking distance.

The property is housed on the first floor of an ancient 16th palace, in the quiet old street of Fieravecchia. The hotel combines tradition and high comfort in a refined atmosphere.

A stay at this property will allow you to discover Siena and its beautiful surroundings, renowned for its Romanesque churches, untouched landscapes, medieval towns and archaeological sites.

The hotel's steep staircase and the lack of lift access makes the property inaccessible to disabled guests.

The hotel is located two blocks away from Porta Pispini, that means it is inside the city wall, and three blocks away from the main square. It is a traditional Italian building, nice and not at all flashy. If it were not for the small sign outside, you would not think that building is a hotel. It has 8 rooms total. Be sure to ask for one in the bottom floors because there are five floors (a lot of stairs) and no elevator. The rooms are really clean and big -at least ours was, we stayed in room 124 but as I understand, not all the rooms are equal in size-. The street the hotel is at is very quiet and rooms have air conditioning (a real one that really cools the room if you need it to) and heating. Breakfast is included but is not a big think. Yoghurt, coffee, juice, marmalade and butter with bread. The thing is that the breakfast room is actually a small basement, humid and accommodates only tree small tables. The hotel seems to be run only by two people. The guy al the reception desk (very friendly and speaks English very, very well) and the cleaning lady. At 7 in the afternoon the guy at the desks leaves, so when you check in you are handed a key to the main door. If you are looking for a big hotel, with lots of people and a lot of services, this is not the hotel for you. But if you are looking for a small thing, to feel like living in a big house o a residence, this is actually a good option. The rooms are quite comfortable, they are beautiful and everything works just fine. Bathrooms are clean and you get the feeling to be staying in a traditional Italian building. Would I come back? Sure. I had a great time, I slept very well. Perhaps next time I’ll just go out for breakfast.

L'hotel è pulito, l'accoglienza gentile. A due passi dal centro storico. La camera non era enorme, ma sufficiente allo scopo, che dovrebbe essere solo quello di riposarsi e usufruire del bagno, anch'esso pulito. Lo consiglio. Rapporto qualità prezzo buono.

We were quite suprised and disapointed when we arrived - very poor welcome, no information at all on the hotel facilities. Our room was quite nice, although could have done with a bit of decorating, lovely view from the window (shame for the scafolding next to it). Not as quiet as we expected. Breakfast was quite unexpected, only 3 tables... Good thing the hotel was not fully booked, but we still had to wait for a table to be free. I think the place is over rated for what it offers.

This is a great small hotel with personality. The stairs are a bit tough but it is called antica torre, after all. I enjoyed a wonderful stay here and plan to return to this quaint hotel next time I am in Siena.

Good hotel in centrl Siena, perfect location, but a little difficult to find initially, especially by car. Very friendly staff with great recommendations for sights, and local food. our room opened to a courtyard which was alittle noisy, but we were there on a weekend night, so it can be expected. Overall, a good stay and great value especially in "centro"

It is a wonderful hotel, the best rooms are on the top, but there is no elevator. It is really in the centre of Siena, the Campop is not far... Hotel molto caratteristico, con belle camere, la più bella è all'ultimo piano ma non c'è l'ascnesore. E' all'interno delle mura a poca distanza da Piazza del campo. Consigliato

Beautiful old hotel in a quiet town. Beautiful scenery but not much in the way of restaurants and night life. Perfect if you want something quiet and out of the frenzy of nearby Sorrento.

Small hotel, very suitable for a short stay near the centre of Siena. Public facilities at hotel are non-existent, but this was clear from the description. Bedroom and bathroom small and sparsely (but adequately) furnished.

The hotel was lovely, comfortable and pleasant with the flavor of medieval mixed with modern, very much in keeping with Siena. Also very clean. Staff was very kind and helpful. Piazza del Campo was a short walk away; the hotel is surrounded by all the splendors, big and small, of Siena. The rooms, front entrance and breakfast room were rather small, but their size seemed to be in keeping with the overall charm of the hotel. There are somewhat steep stairs and as far as I could tell no elevator, which may be an issue for elderly or disabled.

1) No elevator, steep staircase, unsuiteable for older, weaker or handicapped persons 2)No 'Front desk - 24 hour' service as advertised. Nobody was there at 8 p.m. , at 11 p.m. and at 7 a.m. And nobody came when the 'Help'-button on the entrancedoor was activated. 3) No breakfast was provided in spite of the fact it was included and paid for. 4) The door key to the entrance was practically not functional. 5) The reception was poor on arrival - little english spoken and very little knowledge about even the simplest practical and 'touristic' things. This hotel cannot be recommended, Paul Lyngbye

This place is a real gem. I had a room right at the top of the building with the most fantastic view. It's not the easiest place to find (I had to ask 3 people for directions), and you might regret bringing so much luggage if you're on the top floor (there's no lift), but once you're there, you'll definitely be glad you chose this place.

The hotel is housed in a old tower building in a medieval city, therefore it is not surprising that the rooms are reasonably small, they feature brick and beamed ceilings and the stairs are relatively steep. Bathrooms have had to be accommodated within these existing rooms, therefore it is reasonable that the trade-off between bedroom and bathroom size has resulted in very compact bathroom and shower facilities. As it is a small guesthouse with only 8 rooms – once more, it is not surprising that there are not armies of highly qualified and experienced hotel staff to carry your bags up the stairs, or perform concierge type services. That said, it is a charming property, full of quirky, individual touches. The delightful and helpful owner Patrizia clearly has a love of old movies. Check out the photo of Grace Kelly in the small lobby, our bedroom featured photos of Paul Newman and Ava Gardner in their heyday. Furniture and fittings are again older and quirky, fully in keeping with the building. The rooms are kept clean and are comfortable, the hotel is approximately 5 minutes brisk walk from the city and its many delights. Breakfast is 7 Euros extra, which we elected to skip. A pastry and a coffee standing at a café counter is the Italian way and suited us just fine. To conclude, if you want the comforts and service of a modern international style hotel, the Antica Torre would not be ideal for you. If however, you are independently minded and want an interesting experience in a small historic guesthouse, in a fascinating medieval city; perhaps you have found just the place.

My stay there was fine. However, I had to ask for a room on a lower floor. They had me on the top floor and one look at the steps and i knew my asthma would give me trouble. They very kindly put me on the ground floor. I think the information should indicate how many floors there are. I expect that the name should have been a hint that the hotel was very vertical. I had no information about breakfast, but could hear dishes down the steps next to my room. (Very steep steps or maybe I should say very big steps.)

The rooms are clean and nice, however our room was very noisy because it was facing the street, although the guide books say Siena is a carless city, its not! You can have the air con on, but its very loud, so we chose to have the windows open, however from very early in the morning cars and motorbikes drive past disturbing your sleep! Breakfast is v basic and the breaksfat room smells damp. The lady director of the property is very nice and helpful, however the other reciptionist is not so comptent, on the whole I think its quite expensive for what they offer.

This was an enchanting place in our favorite Italian city! We asked for room with a view and were amazed by our top floor overlook on Siena and it's surrounding countryside. Patricia was very warm and welcoming. The only negative was she was a smoker and though she stepped out front, her smoke and/or others' would waft up the stairs and through the window.

Very welcoming and helpful staff. The room was ok, clean and comfortable but not huge. The building isn't really a tower, as advertised. Just a tall narrow building similar to the ones around it. There was also no sign of the breakfast that was included in the price. There was a strong smell of smoke in the reception area but as we were staying on the top floor, it didn't bother us. Great restaurant tips. The hotel seems to be located in a more residential area and is about a 5/10 minute walk from the centre (campo). Overall, good but not as much of a novelty.

The young man who greeted us was very personable and pleasant. The reception area smelled like cigarette smoke, though, and the breakfast wasn't much to speak of. The room was fine if a little small, and the bathroom was very narrow. But they had the essentials, and the room was quaint.

Unfortunately we did not have a good stay. When we arrived at the hotel the women at the desk was on the telephone arguing and didn't seem to want to notice that we were there. She was very rude when she finally did help us. She was also smoking right under the "No smoking" sign creating a smoke filled lobby. The room was fine. We declined the 5 Euro breakfast and went to a little place up the street. The women at the desk when we checked out was much nicer. Parking is a problem.

This was a charming hotel. Everyone (especially the woman who worked in the afternoon who checked us in) was very helpful. THe restaurant suggestion was excellent! Rooms were clean, with fresh towels & supplies. The carpet in one room was extensively stained but had been vacuumed. The only caution is that most rooms have air fresheners plugged in, and the aroma can be very strong. We prefered a room with no scent.

The hotel was very quaint. We were visiting our daughter in Siena and the location was perfect. The staff were very hospitable. I would suggest not traveling with as much luggage as we had as we had to get 2 large suitcases up a flight of stairs.

The proprietor was helpful in complying with our request for a quiet room in the upper level of the hotel. The room overlooking the courtyard at rear of the hotel was very small and the bathroom (and shower) even smaller. Not really value for money we felt but nevertheless probably fairly standard for a city of this size. The breakfast room was also cramped and there was no espresso coffee available (the machine was broken we were told)

Antica Torre is in a great position in the town of Siena, with a fabulous view of the valley. The breakfast room was smaller than I had anticipated, but the staff was extremely helpful and very, very nice. It was dark and rainy our days in Siena, and that made the hotel seem a little dark in the common areas. But that is more a function of the uncontrollable weather than anything to do with the hotel itself. Overall, a great value for the price.

charming proprietor, but everything was a bit cramped, from the entry hall to the breakfast room, and while our room on the second floor was a bit noisy several other guests lower down found noise a real problem. We had a most delightful time at Antica Torre, as did our friends who also stayed there. The owner, Patricia, is a gem, and our maid/breakfast server was a sweetie (even if there were a few "dust bunnies" under the beds where we conveniently stored our oversize luggage--I have bigger dust bunnies under my own bed at home!). The location of the hotel was perfect for us. Out of the noisy Campo area, but just a short stroll away. The restaurants Patricia recommended were fabulous, especially Cane e Gatto (The Dog and Cat) where a set menu is served nightly. I can't wait to get back to Siena to eat there again. Our only problem was of our own making. Like most Americans, we travel with WAY too much luggage, and since our room was on the 4th floor where the "rooms with a view" are located (no elevator, but we KNEW that before booking), it was up to Patricia and me to haul our largest piece up the stairs by ourselves (my husband has a bad back--or so he keeps telling me!). Not an easy task for the first day there (we stayed 6 nights), but by the end of our visit our legs were in great shape and we literally bounced up the stairs. Yes, the rooms are a bit on the small side, but YOU'RE STAYING IN A 15TH CENTURY TOWER, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT! But waking up and looking at the ceiling with the huge wooden beams, and gazing out the window at the terracotta tile rooftops, more than make up for what one gives up in room size. And, after all, one doesn't spend that much time in one's room anyway...there is too much to see and do in Siena and the rest of Tuscany to spend much time in your room. So, I highly recommend Antica Torre and plan to do so to all my friends whose travels will take them to Siena. Ciao!

Clean rooms and a warm welcome. Ideal spot near the Porta Romana. About a 10 minute walk to the Campo and a 15 minute walk to the Duomo. Apparently, you can park at their sister hotel and then catch a shuttle bus to the Antica Torre. Couldn't find the sister hotel. Was lucky enough to get metered parking right near the Porta Romana. I had a room on the inside and it was very quiet. Not crazy about their breakfast policy. They force you to pay Eur5 per person for breakfast (typical mediocre Italian one). They should just include it in the price of the room. It ticked me off. I didn't care for the woman that was chatting on the phone while I was checking out and trying to get to my car before my meter expired. Overall though, it's a pleasant little hotel.

It is a very cosy, small and romantic hotel with a breathtaking view over the roofs of Siena, but only in the 2 upper rooms! For elder people it is a bit difficult to climb up the narrow staircase without porter for the luggage and to climb down to the breakfastcellar.....where the installations are not at the best. But that´s just the adventure in an 400 years old towerhouse!

Within minutes of our arrival, the clerk made a phone call and although we couldn't understand the language, the conversation was lengthy and heated, not to mention completely unprofessional. She gave us erroneous information about where we could park our car(parking in Siena is a nightmare), and after driving around for almost an hour, we would have left Siena completely had we not left our luggage at the hotel. We had the top room(up a narrow winding staircase) and the view was breathtaking. Breakfast was terrible: "instant" cappuccino, and prepackaged rolls, but the morning clerk was pleasant.
