Manhattan Business Hotel - Shanghai

The room is REALLY SMALL. Looks like you are inside an egg. I live in a small apartment and that even shocked me a bit. The bathroom is REALLY REALLY SMALL. And all plastic injected (from floor to walls and sink) which makes it a bit gross. I booked a room with a window (and paid more for that) but a portrait hanging on the wall would have a better effect. It has no view (glass is not transparent) and does not open. If it had a wall behind it I would not know. The window does not mean ventilation or spaciouness sensation at all. Internet works poorly. Wi-fi had only war bar at my room and I kept disconnecting. Apart from that the location is gorgeous just a few steps away from the bund and nanjing lu. There are great hotels around, like the Peninsula. Therefore: ROOM = QUITE BAD, LOCATION = AWESOME If you are the kind of person that thinks "Well, it's just a place where you are going to sleep". I would say it is a little less than I would expect for a comfortable night of sleep, but it has the best location you could ever have at this price.

I booked this hotel as I was only visiting Shanghai for a couple of days and wanted somewhere central. The location was brilliant, down a side road off the Bund so quiet at all times but within easy walking distance of good restaurants, shops, bars etc. The subway station was only a five minute walk so really convenient for visiting the sights. The hotel itself was clean and well presented, our room was cleaned every day with the towels replaced and free bottled water was provided too. The staff were friendly and, although there were a few problems with language barriers, they always tried their best to answer our queries. On the downside, the room was extremely small and didn't have any windows- this didn't bother us as we were out all day and simply wanted a place to sleep but a view would have been nice! You get what you pay for though, and for £35 a night for a clean room in a central location I would stay here again.

Never exchange money in this hotel!!!. The exchange rate they use is not the official one and thus it was about 10% higher than the official one which I consider outrageous... I could expect a small difference maybe a 2% or so, but 10 % was just too much. Besides I found out afterwards in my room that supposedly the official rate is also offered by dialing a special number, but alas... such information was not offered to me by the front desk woman when I exchanged the money... :-( What kind of service is that? Also the room was quite noisy because besides the air conditioning, the room was also equipped with a fan that was not possible to turn off (???). The location of the hotel on the other hand is excellent.
