Hotel Reviews New Asia

For tourists who are not too sophisticated, the New Asia Hotel is near-ideal. Unlike in many more fancy hotels, most of the personel speaks and understands English well. The rooms offer some convenient details, like easily accessible storage for 2(!) suitcases, not commonly found. Breakfast is not fancy but offers a wide variety of food (Chinese and Western) at a very reasonable price. The restaurant is excellent in food and in service, with a remarkable price/quality relation. Also many other eating places (and small shops) are close. Taxis are easily available. Access to the metro (at beginning of pedestrian zone) is 10-15 minutes walking or very quickly with a taxi. Thus all areas of the city can be reached easily and cheaply. The metro line 2 referred to above also takes one to the terminal of Maglev, the super highspeed transportation to the airport. Our standard as individual travellers were met in an excellent fashion, at a very reasonable price.

This is perfect example of good Quality / Service. This hotel perfectly located in the city center. A couple of minutes walking to Nanjing Road (east)... even the (oriental)breakfast is acceptable, but come early... ;-) Perfect business hotel!

I love staying at the New Asia Hotel. The people there are all so nice to me, it is very clean and very safe, it also has a fantastic location, close to Nanjing Road East and the subway. I would never stay anywhere else when I visit Shanghai.

This was our first trip to Shanghai, glad to find out the rooms were clean and there were western toilets as well as a drinking water tap in the bathroom. We enjoyed our stays at the New Asia Hotel, though it's not very close to any eateries. There is a shop at the hotel for stamps, snacks and other sundries. A business center with computer internet access. The staff were mostly helpful and could understand English pretty well. We were there for 11 days and had very nice spacious rooms on the third floor, then we came back through Shanghai for one night and stayed at the New Asia Hotel again. However, for the same price, the second time we got much smaller rooms looking onto alleyways with very dark small bathrooms which disappointed us a bit, but overall we were very happy with the New Asia Hotel.

Very confortable individual room, wood furniture, with many nice details (papper and pencils for writing, room serv-bar with very acceptable prices, toileteries, etc.) the queen size bed was a little too hard, the view from the room was deceptive (a wall o bricks from the neighbour building).

Do not order breakfast to room overpriced and poor quality. Clients need to be aware the hotel require full payment plus 10% service charge and 100 CNY per night deposit to be paid on arrival.

Value for money. Service minded staff. Possible to communicate in English. Clean rooms (but they are quite worn and rather small). Ok distance to metro station. Breakfast ok. Overall satisfied.

Excellent hotel for the price. Reception staff member when checking in was friendly although she was overworked and dealing with several people at once, which meant that check in took far longer than it should have. Concierge very helpful and friendly although another reception staff member later was surly. All spoke good English. Room was clean and well-supplied and hotel was close walking distance to main attractions. Would recommend for the price.

The price is very low for such a good hotel. The room is tiny but clean. Also, I lived in a new renovated room. The three things that I didn't like were: a) The view in my room. b) It took me 15mins to walk to Nanjing Road and 30mins to People's Sqaure - so just catch a taxi from the Hotel. c) Surroundings were horrible

This hotel offers a very good quality for it's price. The location is ok since you only have to take a short walk to nanjign road. Taxi's are so cheap in china, that it's no problem to use it all the time (just make sure you have addresses written in chinese, they don't understand english maps). Cleanliness of rooms is in acceptable level. We had just recently renovated rooms. The hotel's restaurant was surprisingly good, offering a good variety of chinese delicacies for a very reasonable price. Generally, prices in shanghai vary heavily. Western hotels, restaurants and stores are much more expensive than the local ones (typically 3-10 times more). But be aware for rip off by local customers.

It was pleasure to stay there. I stayed at a superior double room. It was much better than what I expected. Neat, clean, and big enough. Price is so reasonable. The response and attitude of hotel staff could improve more. I am staying again.

The hotel was tidy. The reception desk was spoke English language fairly well, but the other workers were still lacking. The location of the hotel was in-between two metro stops (15-min) walking, which I thought was kind of far. About the same walking time to Nanjing road and shorter walk to the Bund. Overall the quality of the service for the price was good and I felt satisified because I eventually stayed in other parts of China (Guangzhou, Jieyang, Shantou, Hong Kong) and I think this hotel was very reasonable for the price. It's a nice place to rest for the night.
