When selecting a room with no view we had no idea it would have been a little box room 3 floors below ground level with no air con or windows or any other form of air what so ever.

This was my first stay and my last,I admit to booking a budget room that I can only describe as diabolical .As we were located on the minus2 floor it was very dark and dingy, everything felt damp and smelt musky.Having getting into bed on the first night it felt very damp. The breakfast was basic and adequate and must admit staff very helpful.Although booking basic we did expect a little bit more for our money expecting to at least to want to return.

We enjoyed our stay but was disappointed that everything closed early because not many people were in the Hotel that night even the main lights in the main bar were not on. We always stay at The Grand its so central fro everything.

We got what we paid for - a basic room and decent breakfast which was more than adequate for our stay. Car parking was OK. hotel location excellent.

Room was in the basement and did not have a window. Next to a store room which was used from the early hours. Also they could not find my room key when I returned.

First room given had no wardrobe or drawers was told hanging space was a coat hanger on a coat hook, staff on reception were unclear of this but did change room. Asked about evening meal as it was our wedding anniversary and was given a menu we booked but when we went to the restaurant were told we had booked for the downstairs and upstairs was more expensive we may have chosen this if offered both options. 99p bar offer was advertised but got charged £6 for 2 drinks then told this offer was not for me, this need to be clear on the bar were advertised. Noisy workmen in corridor from 8:15am on Sunday we have stopped here previous and at sister hotel The Royal but standards have dropped very disappointed.

Was worried when we booked having read other reviews but was pleasantly surprised, stunning building, room was comfy and warm other than that for what it cost what more would you expect, but could of been cleaned better as previous guests belongings were still laying around room, we did not complain about anything during our stay as we don't but found some of the staff were just plain rude when asking for general advise on things re our stay, although some couldn't do enough to help you so not all bad,,,, all said though would deffo stay there again, oh and was a lovely breakfast

Booked at last minute for 3 nights (Aug 2013) but moved out after first night into a nice (and cheaper) guest house nearby as the Grand is simply appalling and the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. If it was grand once, that must have been quite a while ago as it is now in a total time wharp, run down, shabby & tired with totally disinterested staff. Recommendation/warning - don't stay there as believe me it is awful!!

We stayed for three nights in this hotel , The room was very dated it was stifling hot no fans or air conditioning anywhere in the hotel bad customer service at reception very slow dealing with customers. The bedding and towels were never changed we had to ask for clean bedding as it was wet through with the sweat because the rooms were so hot . The electric in our room went after 2 hours complaining I went down and seen the duty manager who had to radio yet again to have the electric put back on . The bed was falling apart springs were sticking through the mattress and broken spring cut my partners leg as he was sitting on the bed every time you rolled over in bed the creaking of the bed woke you up the only good thing about this hotel was its position for everywhere when you went out

We went to The Grand Hotel in Scarborough to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday and were not disappointed, We booked 2 double rooms in our name and one in my parents, one of the rooms had 2 z-beds in it which we didn't want so asked if they could be removed and this was done more or less straight away. Rooms were cleaned, fresh towels and tea, coffee making things replenished everyday. Breakfast was a choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, full English, toast, juice, tea, coffee, porridge, ect in a buffet style which meant u could have as much or little as you wished. Staff were pleasant and polite at all time and we can say we had the most enjoyable stay. Thankyou to the staff in The Grand for a realy enjoyable stay.

warning!!! hotel brochure and web site states 'newley refrurbished hotel' what a joke carpet in lobby held together by duct tape our room had not been touched by the cleaner or a refurbishment, it had dirty creased sheets that had not been changed, duct tape was all around the bath and infront of toilet (even that had been there so long it had ripped and you could see the dirt between toe rip !)no shower or shower head tap ,no hot water no plug for bath . all at £80 a night !!! needless to say we asked for a refund and left. we complaind by email and they have offerd us a 'special' rate in a refurbished room !!...i could never stay there,if that is the state of the rooms they let the customer see , whats the kitchen like .
