Ideally situated in São Vicente, one of the most beautiful valleys of Madeira, the charming hotel Estalagem do Vale is housed in a XVIII century manor building, which has been entirely restored and transformed into a modern and luxurious hotel.

Estalagem do Vale was a peaceful, very efficiently run and relaxing hotel for a holiday. The service was impeccable, the room comfortable and adequate size, the food was good and the staff uniformly helpful (and Englsih speaking). Some of the website pictures do not do it justice - it is a very well designed, modern boutiquey hotel with considerable style. Rooms with a view are worth the extra cost - spectacular mountains. The location is good for walking in the North of Madeira, though a little difficult to find. The hotel is only half an hour from Funchal by the motorway and tunnel, but 4+ hours by the coast road (spectacular but endlessly winding up and down the mountains). If you are in a hurry, or prone to travel sickness, use the former!

Very recent hotel (OCT 2005). Rooms are very nice and very quiet. We regret 2 things. There is no non smoking area in the restaurant, so you have to take your dinner in a very bad atmosphere depending on your neighbouring. There is a free access to dogs in the park and to the pool... Very difficult to tolerate.

By car
Take the Cota 200 highway in direction of Funchal and Ribeira Brava. Once in Ribeira Brava, continue towards Serra d'Água. From there either proceed along the Encumeada road or take the Túnel do Norte.
By airplane
The hotel is approximately 30 km from Funchal International Airport.
