Hotel Panamericano - Santiago

Most of desk staff did not speak English. There is no concierge. Very little help or literature on local tourism is available (e.g. good maps of Santiago, or sightseing). The front desk did make a car rental reservation for me in advance of checkin. The bell hops were very helpful and provided more information than the front desk personnel. The breakfast and restaurant are fine. A restaurant server named Fanny was delightful and patient with my Spanish. The room was spacious enough but lacking storage. There were no drawers for clothing, and only 4 hangers in about a 6 foot long closet with doors configured such that you can't even see into part of the closet. The desk in the room was covered with promotional materials, an audio system, wine/glasses, etc. leaving little space for guests to use. Some electrical outlets did not work. The location is very good and they provide several varieties of pillows to select from in the room. I requested two beds and the room had two: one twin and one king. Large wall mounted flat screen TV was nice.

Nice stay, really nothing to complain. Everything was very good, including breakfast. The room was large as expected (I booked a suite in special offer), and price was as expected. The surrounding area is ful of construction works, but in 10 minutes walking you will arrive to Plaza des Armes, the Santiago center, which is very nice and full of tourist attractions. Comparing also with other hotels in the same city (from collegues), the price here seems a bit high. The money exchange rate here is better than in the airport. A remark for other tourists: when exiting from the airport, there is a lot of people proposing VERY insistently to take a taxi (some of them said that do not exist any bus to go downtown). On the contrary, there is a very convenient bus, the TUR-BUS, which stops (La Moneda, terminal station) three blocks far from the hotel and costs only 1700 pesos, compared with taxi price at least 10 times higher (my collegues said). There is only an inconvenient: La Moneda station is only an arrival stop: to go to the airport, you need to go to another place (subway stop Univ. of Santiago) which is not close...

They didn't order the cab the I ask. The bathroon could be better, have more space for things.
