1. We didn't realize it was a four star hotel. Nice surprise. 2. No answer. The only complaint that I have is that the maitr'e d treated us poorly the first night. He assumed we were with one of the tour groups, was upset that we hadn't made reservations through the front desk and acted like we didn't belong there.

- The hotel needs to be dramatically restructured, the furniture is old and dusty, services are poor for a 4* hotel, and for the price payed, but the view from the room was breathtaking

Hotel overall is a good value for the price. SOme rooms are a bit dated, but rooms on 3rd level have been updated and those with sea-view are quite charming. I stayed in two different rooms, one an older circa 1970 decor, and the other a newly updated. Both were charming, pleasant, clean and spacious by European hotel standards. The rooms are a bit noisy, walls are thin, but I was not in Italy to spend time in the room, and generally things got quiet by the time I wanted to sleep

This hotel used to be a 4 star hotel - 20 years ago. The furniture is very, very old, you feel as you were set back in the middle of 1970. The breakfast is very poor. In total a price of € 175,- per night is not at all appropriate for the facilities offered.

We enjoyed our view from our room and had no trouble finding the hotel from the town centre We had a very pleasant walk from S Margherita to Portofina one morning; took the boat back. We'd happily stay at the Park Hotel Suisse on a return visit.

Generally a good hotel although slightly jaded in parts - missing tiles from the pool surround, could do with a good lick of paint etc. Apart from one or two exceptions the staff on reception were aloof to say the least and they forgot to book the shuttle to the railway station, bit of a problem when trains in Italy tend to be on time (mostly). The view is spectacular. The hotel is well positioned and is very close to all amenities.

good location but the pool was terrible. It was filled with so much salt water and whatever that it made it impossible to stay in it for more than a minute. My son got a really bad rash from the water. The hotel staff was in need of a concierge because they were not that helpful. The restaurant was nice and the rooms had some good views.

Vivamente sconsigliato

Beautiful Hotel! make sure you get a room with seaview - spectacular! the receptionists can be more polite. i didn't like being talked down to when asking for information re trains etc. the general attitude of agorance was very annoying. the dining room and door staff were excellent - very attentive & polite. it's what i expected for the price.

The room was nice except it didn't have a shower, just a tub with a hand nozzle. The location is good but the internet service didn't work. Their breakfast was really good. I think we'd stay there again.

The room was nice, but the bath room was very very small. There was no bath but a narrow and unconfortable shower and the water equipment was ancient. That was not in accordance to a four stars hotel classification. It was a pity !

Our "sea view" room looked directly into a palm tree (we couldn't locate the sea without peering over a barrier into the next terrace). The desk staff was not at all helpful, claiming that the hotel was fully booked in the middle of September, although we saw only 10 other people there all week. The internet connection in the hotel was not working for the entire duration of our visit. Upon checking out, the desk clerk couldn't figure out how to use the credit card machine. We could tell that the hotel had been "grand" in the 1960's, but is no longer. "Worn and tired" would be the best way for me to explain the hotel. I would recommed staying elsewere in Santa Margherita.

The hotel was well sited in the middle of the town. Our room was clean but needed redecoration. The parquet flooring was loose in places. The bathroom on the other hand was beautifully decorated in marble. The balcony was huge and gave a great view over the sea, but there were rust patches on the iron railings and the fabric of the building delapidated. The breakfasts were mediocre and although there were lots of staff in the dining room the service was poor. I felt that the hotel was being poorly managed. There was a large development site just beside the hotel with construction noise during the day.

There was general confusion over our booking, which from the outset was stated that there were 5 of us. I rang the hotel ahead of time to confirm that there 5 of us as the booking showed one double and one single room. The respondent to the call say they knew there were 5 of us and that there is not a problem. When we arrived they said that they only had 3 booked and we were charged extra.

This hotel could use some updating but if it were remodeled...it would be worth twice the price! A wonderful location. The view of the marina was terrific both mornings and evenings. The desk clerks were less than informative. Could not give us directions to Cinqa Terra (sp?) which must be one of the biggest draws to that area. Three times during our stay the front desk could not make change for us. We would return however without hesitation.

Very dated hotel with virtually no restoration executed since the 1960s, apart from the bathroom. Staff not very customer oriented, parking crowded, price exceptional high, even for Sta. Margherita.

As a frequent visitor of this area in Liguria this is the first time I was really dissapointed by a hotel. The price you pay is for a four star hotel, it might have been a four star in the past but not anymore. The pool is old, the rooms lack decoration (none). Mini bar is missing. The hotel could be great since it has a certain charm due to its location but it needs to be renovated badly. I will not reccomend this hotel to anyone. We had a great stay but will not return to this hôtel anymore.

I left my car in the care of a member of staff to park, which contained a lot of luggage as we were only staying one night. On checking my car at about 11.30.pm. I found it parked in the open with the keys on the drivers seat !!!. I must class this Hotel as faded glory.

The property is known as a four star hotel. Maybe 4 shooting stars?? We had to ask every night for the interference of the reception to ask the neighboors to make some silence. The rooms are not quiet at all. You may listen everything what is happening in the room on the up floor and in the next door. The girls who works at the repecption are not too much friendly and should be more prepared to help the guests with information about the city and surroundings. The only think that they really know is to inform that you have to pay 10 euros per day for parking (what is not informed in their web page) and the price of the internet use (4 euros per hour). The telephone in the room just works for call the reception, it´s not allowed to make an external call. It´s necessary to go to the lobby to do that. The room has a very old furniture. The TV must be at least 10 years old and is very small and although in their web pages they inform that it´s a cable TV, no international channels were available. There is no frigobar in the room, so you need to go to the bar to buy a bottle of water (2 euros) each. What´s outstanding? The wiew.

Although certainly clean and usable, to be honest the room was not that nice. We have travelled extensively for 25 years and the quality of the room was just not charming. for the price it was basically - old, noisy and a bit busted really. This sentiment was shared by fellow travellers in Europe. The room is not a place you want to spend long in. However, Santa Marguerita (SM) was a nice spot for a day or so - very close to Portofino (7 mins) but watch the very crowded bus on the way back and close to the Cinque Terre. I would advise travellers to base yourself in SM to explore these places - SM has good restaurants and places to hang out at night, Portofino, Monterosso, Riamaggiore etc don't.

Our stay was in febraury: hotel very quiet and reasonable prices. hotel of the 70's. rooms are well equipped and clean, but a little "old fashioned" splendid view, hotel very close to the see side and to the town center. Excellent breakfast served in the room, with very efficient service

We stayed at this hotel on New Years Eve. We were quoted 65 Euro p/p for the New Years party. I jumped on it knowing that was going to be by far the cheapest thing in the area. When I was checking out the next day I was told there was a mistake in the quote and that I was going to be charged 120 Euro p/p. That is a huge increase! The gentleman at the front desk made it seem like "Well these things happen, there is nothing I can do." I had him call his boss in in my broken Italian I argued my case. At the end they did bring it down to the quoted cost. I just thought it was a little strange for them to initially blow me off and say "sorry, now pay up." When all is said and done and I am back at home writing this, I can look back on my stay as very satisfying. I have never, in my life seen such beauty as I did surrounding the hotel on the Medditeranean.I reccommend it to all!

Good breakfast, friendly staff, a property with 'character' more than compensated for such defects as unfinished modernisation of rooms and noisy air conditioning.
