Hotel La Vela (Castello il Rifugio) - Santa Margherita Ligure

This place was amazing. The price was very affordable. While the rooms were really nothing to write home about, the view from the rooftop terrace was beautiful. The gardens surrounding are so gorgeous. We had a difficult time deciding whether to stay in Santa Margherita or Portofino and we are so glad we stayed in Santa Margherita. Portofino is really overpriced and there is not much to do. Santa Margherita is a great choice and La Vela was one of our favorite hotels of our trip.

Nous recommandons cet hotel qui a beaucoup de caractère et qui offre de très belles vues sur la ville et la mer. L'accueil est très correct et le petit déjeuner très bien.Nous avons pu nous garer sur le parking de l'hotel ce qui est très pratique.

I have never had owner family of a hotel, who where obviously afraid of their customers. Extreme reserved, no personal approach. Additionally there was parking problem, it does not help when the owners park 3 cars where one was a big SUV.

Extrem laut (direkt neben der Bahnlinie); Frühstück: italienisch-spartanisch; Zimmer sind höher als breiter; schlechtes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis wie leider in allen Hotels um Portofino

Todo muy bien,el unico problema es el estacionamento,solo hay sitio para 5 coches y el hotel esta hubicado en una colina. De todas maneras lo recomendaria a cualquiera y seguramente regresaremos !

Hotel Vela was a great property for the price. I love charming old properties and this one fit the bill. Back rooms are small and dark but I was able to upgrade to a front room with a balcony and view of the sea for 50E more and it was worth every cent. Street and train noise could be a problem but I always wear earplugs so it didn't bother me. Reception was ok but it would be nice to have a person more dedicated to answer questions or have some written material giving advice about the area: Things to do and see and restaurants not to be missed etc. We wanted to have cocktails on the balcony one evening and it was difficult to get any ice. It's an easy walk to town and to the train station ( not with luggage ) and the ferry dock so Portofino and cinque terra were easy to access.

One of the nicer places we stayed at during a 3 week trip to italy. outstanding view of the mediterranean from bedroom window. english speaking staff - competent & pleasant to deal with. a couple of negatives - near train tracks, so train noise at night, also, the taxi rides to & from the train station cost 15 euro, even though it was a fairly short distance (less than a mile).all in all, we would highly recommend this hotel.
