We have been guests in the hotel a few times before, but unfortunately not in summer time to enjoy the sea and the pool/garden. Location is perfect with a beautiful view of the bay and the city. Nice garden and cosy hotel. Breakfast excellent. Very high quality and the price is ok.

For those that have been to the UK, this hotel is Italy's answer to Eastbourne - great for "mature" couples, not amazing for young couples. However the staff are very welcoming, the location is fantastic for walking into the town and if you get one of the rooms with a balcony, then it would be a pleasant place to stay, though slightly pricey for what you get.

Great hotel - beautifully located overlooking the sea, close to all amenties in town, and a short walk to the railway. Staff were friendly, service was great and drinks were cheap. Breakfast menu slightly disappointing, but overall, thoroughly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay here, altough too short. We walked to Portofino which is about 5km's around a sensational coast line and then caught the ferry back. The cost of food at Portofino was exorbinant espcially at the warf area, but the setting is sensational. The staff at the hotel were wonderful, very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would go back in a heart beat but wuld plan to stay longer definately!!

Location, quietness, cleanness, bathtab, breakfast, private beach, Service, etc were almost perfect. Space of the room(singel)was a little bit smaller. Price(138/night) was higher.

The hotel is situated in a beautiful, well kept garden at the beach front. My room had a great view of the bay and and one could hear the sound of the waves at night. Hotel services, e.g. restaurant were excellent. Staff did their best to assist guests and made them feel welcome.

This hotel is much, much better than expected and not at all next to the railroad station but a few blocks away which is much better. You cannot hear trains nor, as some have said,do you have to race across a heavily trafficked road.the grounds are beautiful with gardens and a great pool, spa and deck over the water.Food service is excellent as is the breakfast buffet. We were amazed at the value for the price. You can easily walk to town and the hotel has covered parking too.Ask for a room in the main building ...overlooking the garden and pool .

This hotel is in a great location, just 5 minutes from the train station, 5 minutes from the main bus terminal and the town of Santa Margherita Ligure. Great base for Cinque Terre. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with a very appealing pool area. I would request a shower only room, not shower/bath combination, as the bathtub is very narrow and awkward. Excellent restaurant service/food, very accommodating to special requests. Only complaint was the grout in the bathroom needed replacing but it didn't spoil our stay.

Fine light-filled corner room with huge closets and well-appointed bathroom looked out through a beautiful garden onto the blue bay. Small balcony with two chairs was a charming place to rest and relax. We appreciated the large and varied breakfast buffet and the central location. Pool looked a little small, but you're right on the beach, and it was a bit too cool for swimming anyway. Hey, we loved the place. Except . . . The WiFi system serves only the public areas and costs an exorbitant 5 Euros per half hour. At the prices it's charging, The Metropole needs to free itself and its customers from this ridiculous policy and offer connectivity everywhere gratis.

Excellent hotel with a professional staff and a very nice garden to access the private beach. My room was on the garden side. It takes a few minutes to go to the center of Santa Margherita and a few mn to get the railway station.

The staff were excellent and very helpful with my 'tourist' questions. I stayed at the villa, which had a lovely, spacious room, with a bath, which is rare in Europe. My view from the window was directly onto the ocean. The hotel is in an excellent location so I could see the entire of Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino in the distance. The grounds the hotel owns are huge and beautiful. It is very convenient with the train station maybe 50 m away. There are big rooms to relax and read which is nice. The value for money is excellent. I have paid the same price for other hotels in Italy and they were mediocre compared to this. I am a student and had a budget so when I had supper at the hotel restuarant I wanted something within my budget. I did feel very uncomfortable when the staff were trying to force me to have something to expensive but eventually things were sorted out.

I and my sister had spend 5 days in Santa Margherita Ligure. We really enjoyed the service of "Metropole hotel". The room was cozy and the private terrace gave us a view of the lovely garden and a small portion of the beach. The hotel location was unbeatably good for travellers frequently using train and bus. The breakfast included in the room price was good. The staffs were very helpful. I surely will recommend this hotel to other travellers. "Bravo! What a wonderful holiday!"

Only stayed for one night but found the Metropole a good quality hotel. Staff were relatively friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was fine although the decor was a little dated and the shower too small. Sky Sports on the t.v. was welcomed! Breakfast was very good and enjoyed a very nice lunch in the outdoor restuarant overlooking the sea. The sunbathing and swimming areas looked inviting! At €200 for the night it wasn't budget accomodation but Santa Margherita is not cheap so the Metropole comes recommended.

we stayed at this hotel for a week. It was quite expensive but worth the money the whole area is more expensive than other parts of Italy and we were prepared for that. The gardens and the terrace were delightful and very well maintained .The staff were friendly and helpful, the only thing we found odd was the restaurant manager came round at breakfast time taking orders for the evening meal when he realised we were not interested in eating at the hotel he more or less ignored us. Lots of the other guests did eat there but it looked very expensive and did not seem to offer much choice, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Santa Margherita which is a really lovely place to stay and base yourself to explore the local area.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel, not long enough though. The hotel is close to train station but they do not mention the hills for dragging bags. The property is beautiful and the staff were lovely.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Metropole which is a superbly run family hotel in a beautiful location. Management and staff are friendly, helpful and professional at all times. The food is excellent and the standard of cleanliness of the rooms but especially the pool area is a credit to the hotel. As someone who has to stay in hotels all of the time for my work, I have no hesitation in recommending the Metropole - it is an absolute gem!

This was our first stop on our Honeymoon. 6 days to relax by the water before moving on to Florence. Santa Margherita was like we stepped into a oil painting. Words can not decribe. The hotel Metropole is at the one end of the town so not in the hustle and crowds but a two minute walk to the center. The staff at the hotel was wonderful to us but most of all Luigi. This unasuming man quietly made our trip extra special. He was our waiter at dinner but without request brought champange and cream puffs to our room. The next day suprised us with breakfast in bed. If you have the chance please stay here!

It's the small things that make a good hotel into a great hotel and this is a great hotel with traditional, unwavering standards of good quality and attention to detail in all respects such as bedroom maintenance twice daily and plenty of bathroom appointments including large, fluffy bath towels. The hotel is overseen by the proprietor,a bon viveur and interested gentleman, who makes guests as welcome as he would in a private house and all the staff, from the gardeners to the concierge are courteous and helpful. We stayed for a week on a Half Board basis and the food was tasty, varied and efficiently served by all the waiting staff under the supervision of a very attentive and extremely professional head waiter Antonio Pisani and the excellent buffet breakfast catered for all tastes and appetites! Our bedroom(in the separate Villa part)had a stunnung sea view with the waves lapping under our windows and the room itself was large, with more storage space than was needed and 'proper' hangers in the wardrobe-not those fixed ones that are so complicated to take off the rail. There was even room for a very effective trouser press. The hotel is very convenient for the town and railway station and is set in the most beautiful, immaculately tended gardens, with its own beach and sea-bathing facilities as well as a swimming pool and fitness centre. We enjoyed every moment of our stay at this excellent hotel and can't wait to return again in the future and we would most definitely recommend it.

I would highly recommend the Metropole. The staff were all helpful and courteous. The breakfast was the nicest of our trip. The view from our room of the lake and marina was gorgeous. We loved walking along the water's edge promenade of Santa Margherita and enjoyed many good meals there.

We happened upon the Metropole, by accident, as our usual accommodation, in St.Margherita was over booked. Superb hotel in beautiful grounds. Fun-loving, English speaking personel at Reception. The service was excellent from a team of "evening suited" staff. Overwhelming choice of food at breakfast and top-class, set menu, at acceptable price, in the evening.

The hotel was lovely. The staff were all very accomodating and welcoming. The room was a little smaller than we expected, but very clean and comfortable. Eventhough we were given the room directly outside the elevator, it was very quiet. The view from our balcony was beautiful. I do wish that we had come a month earlier as the grounds were not as beautiful as the pictures. We did purchase internet service and had to wait a while due to only one computer. It was situated in a phone booth and there was not much room for two people to sit. The keyboard was sticky and hard to use. We purchased half board(not really knowing what that meant)and the lovely gentleman that checked us in that afternoon was quick to tell us that it meant that one meal of our choice (not just beakfast)came with the room. We elected to have dinner in the hotel that evening. The fish and chips that my husband ordered was not what we are used to in the states, but the rest of the meal was very good and the service was excellent. Breakfast the next morning was served on the terrace and was very, very good with a large assortment on the buffet. Again, the service was excellent. We would highly recommend this property to others and would stay there again. Keep in mind that if you arrive by train, while the property isn't far away at all (too close to take a taxi),it is up hill all the way and you have to navigate two very high, fast moving traffic areas while carrying your luggage to reach the property. There is a large map outside the train station indicating where the different hotels are located, which was very helpful.

We arrived via train and the hotel was within a 5 minute walk. Staff was great; the grounds were very nice and the location was perfect. We would definitely stay there again. The public areas were well appointed and the breakfast was excellent.

Hotel Metropole exceeded our standard in an Italian hotel. Hotel and staff were excellent. The location and setting were wonderful and I would recommend this hotel to anyone wholeheartedly. We stayed in room 401 in what everyone refers to as 'The Red Villa'. It had the most wonderful terrace with views to die for. The hotel came out top of our personal poll of hotels worldwide which we have stayed in. We will definately return. Truely magical!

We enjoyed the stay at the Hotel Metropole very much. Especially, the location in S. Margherita overlooking the bay is gorgeous. The park is unique, only the facilities at the ocean needed a makeover, which was started when we left. The doubke room facing the water was excellent, the single room facing the garden was a bit small. The service was excellent all the time. We will come back for sure.

The hotel is on the beach with a beautiful setting of S. Marg. We stayed here at the end of our 3 weeks in Italy and it was perfect to unwind and relax. It more expensive than the hotels we stayed previously, but worth it at the end of our trip. Staff-very, very good. Rooms, spacious and very nice. Breakfasts, wonderful. EHK

Travelling by train this hotel was excellently placed for us being a very short walk from the station. We can highly recommend this hotel. Sadly the road passing close by is very busy but they have installed double glazing so with the windows shut the constant sound of traffic does not intrude. Our room overlooked the gardens and had a sea view so we weren't directly over the road. We would quite happily stay there again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Metropole. It was easy to find and in a great location. Our first night was spent in the main building and although we had a view of the garden and the ocean, the room was very close to the main road. It was very warm, and because we were there in early April the air conditioning was not turned on in the hotel yet. Needless to say we had to sleep with windows open and there was so much road noise we couldn't sleep. We asked to switch rooms and they accomodated us wonderfully by moving us to the building on the ocean which was spectacular. The hotel staff was very accomodating and gave us some good recommendations for dinner. We would definitely recommend Metropole to others.

The hotel is not new, nevertheless the bath tub was very very small and the shower had to be hand held as the fixed position meant that the water was not aimed in the right direction ie the user's body.

Hotel Metropole was a nice place to stay. It was a little pricey for what we got, but perhaps that had to do with going at the highest season. The room was clean and reasonably comfortable. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The location is good--2 minutes walk to the center of town, the the ferry to Cinque Terre/Portfino/Rapallo, and very close to the train station--although there's no easy way to get there from Genoa airport (in retrospect I would travel to Santa Margherita by train). If you have any debates about where to stay in the area, I would recommend Santa Margherita over Portofino, Rapallo, or Cinque Terre and I would definitely consider staying at the Metropole if travels brought me to Santa Margherita again.

Our stay at the Hotel Metropole was one of the best of our vacation. After staying at several other hotels on our trip, the Metropole was a refreshing change. The staff and the service as well as the hotel grounds made this one of the highlights of our trip. I an sure you could blame some of our wonderful feelings on Santa Margherita Ligure itself, what a beautiful town. We WILL go Back.

We booked 4 rooms, two rooms were beautiful and spacious, however the other two rooms were very small and not as nice. We paid the same price for the rooms and they were not equal. We were very disappointed in the equality of rooms as the same prices.
