Hotel Reviews Jolanda

The hotel was great & the room with balcony was teriffic. The breakfast was very nice and the setting outside was beautiful. We were trying to find the hotel for quite a while as the GPS couldn't get us to the destination. There was also nowhere to pull up outside to checkin once we had found the hotel. All that aside, we loved the hotel and would definitely go back again.

The main issue we found at Hotel Jolanda was the noise. Really bad from the street, but also from adjoining rooms. We could hear people talking all the time, particularly at night. Cleanliness was not great, particularly in corners, mouldings, skirtings, etc. The breakfast area was very nice and service very good too. We would probably stay on the water front next time (maybe as noisy and more expensive, but at least we would enjoy the marvelous views!)

Travelled with spouse. We stayed at the Jolanda Hotel in Santa Margherita Ligure. Excellent hotel, great service, great position. The hotel upgraded our room. Venere was an excellent booking service.

The best aspect of this hotel is that it is well located. It is reasonably close to both the beaches and the nightlife spots in Santa Margherita. The hotel itself is dated. The lobby and the room furnishings look like they haven't been updated for a couple of decades. We had been travelling by car around Italy and arrived a daily earlier than our four day reservation stipulated. This seemed to aggravate the desk clerk who made a big deal about how the hotel was full and how I should have phoned. I explained that this was a last minute decision on our part and that it is not so easy to phone when you're on the road. In the end it seemed she found us a room anyway. The initial room they gave us was very small and we changed to another room which was much more acceptable. The breakfasts were average in quality but the breakfast room was very appealing and pretty. There is no free parking and you have to fork over 20 euros per day to park at the Fiat garage across the the street. There are public beaches but they were full and we had to pay an additional 14 euros per person per day to have access to the beach through a beachfront hotel that has an agreement with Hotel Jolanda. All in all the parking plus the beach access expense combined with the hotel price of 140 euros per night added up to more than the value of what we received. In fairness, this is likely not unique to this hotel but the reality of what you get for your money in Liguria.

nice, clean hotel. good location.. internet connection is expensive, it is 2009!! everybody use internet, and hotels tries to make money, they have the right to do this but i will prefer hotels with free or cheap wi-fi connection...

Nice hotel, just away from the sea but not far. Nice restaurants nearby. We were there in October when the town was quite quiet. Very happy with the hotel and the town.

My family really loved this place. Location is great and the afternoon happy hour by the garden is a must. The waiter who took care of us 3 afternoon in a row, Christian I think is the name was fantastic. Breakfast was good. Very good on the finer details like no wilted flowers etc. Looks like a great family run business. Very clean and professional and welcoming.

We stayed at the Hotel Jolanda for four nights. The reception was very helpful with suggestions for activities and dining. We were a couple of blocks from the bus and train which made visiting surrounding areas easy to get to. We had a rent car but never used it during our stay. I was more than happy with the room and area of town. Our favorite restaurant was Ristorante Oca Bianca, very close to the hotel. One of the best meals we had in all of Italy. We would definately stay here again.

Excellent hotel, beautifully decorated and presented, great location. Hotel is not on the waterfront but it is only a short walk away. It is close to the railway station and at the same level which is a bonus when you are dragging luggage in such a hilly town. It is also close to the centre of town, good restaurants and local supermarkets.

Only stayed for one night while in town for a friend's wedding. The room was excellent and one of best I've ever stayed in particulary for a three star hotel (friends who stayed in four star accomodation were shocked by how poor their hotel was). Breakfast was fine and staff were efficient and helpful. Very good value for Santa Margherita and within easy access of the centre of town. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely time in Santa Margherita Ligure - it is ideally located for exploring the Italian Riviera. Hotel Jolanda is less than ten minutes walk from the train and there is a fantastic train service provided. The hotel is near the centre of the town but in particular I would like to commend the staff who were very helpful and informative. Overall it was a pleasure staying in this fantastic hotel. We were particularly impressed on checking in when we received an upgrade on our room at no additional cost - many thanks++.

Ideal location--five minute walk to the waterfront area with the lovely park and many restaurants. It is on a busy street but with the windows closed, the noise isn't too bad. Spacious room and bathroom, wonderful breakfast in a delightful setting and only a ten minute walk down the hill from the train station. We ate at a number of places and had a great meal at Oca Bianca just down the street from the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel. Would stay here again.

The hotel was located a short walk from the town square, the market and many good restaurants. The room and bathroom were large enough for two people and air-conditioning was good. We enjoyed our stay there and the staff was very helpful. I would stay there again and recommend it to friends.

The hotel was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel made it VERY NOISY. We stayed there for 3 nights. We met up with our group from BackRoads for a hiking trip in Cinque Terre. I felt the hotel was convenient and well priced but not very relaxing. I'm afraid most hotels in that area of Santa Margherita would be the same way.

Hotel Jolanda in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! I especially liked the interior decor - very tasteful, especially compared to hotels in Germany. I loved Hotel Jolanda! The entire hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful. The service was great. The breakfast was also very good. I will definitely stay at Hotel Jolanda again. Kind Regards, Diana Michiulis

Great hotel with ambiance & well located close to Portofino & the less commercial fishing village of Camogli nearby. Perfect stay was marred by failure of arranged wake up call which was critical to catch an early train to Milan. Night Duty Manager conveniently forgot his English & lapsed into defensive Italian mode when we advised the oversight! Motto -Take your own alarm wake up device.

We agree with the reviews we read on the web site that this was the most comfortable, well-decorated hotel we stayed in during our 3 weeks in Italy. Our corner room had 2 walk out doors to a balconey. Our breakfast (included with the price) was sumptous. The quality is very high for the price. We enjoyed our stay immensely.

We stayed for two days and I must say the hotel is well situated! ok you do not have a seeview but you are close to everything. The parking under the hotel is a bit small but once parked the car we did not move it anymore! You can walk to the trainstation and from there travel to 5terra. As it was a special occasion there is a great estaurant just in of the hotel: somethinkg with a duck(canard) but I can not remember the name. Anyway NICE place to sray in OCTOBER!!

Stayed during August 2006 and found the hotel to be excellent. The staff where freindly and helpfull and the room was very good, but we found that the bathroom was a bit on the small size. This would not stop us from staying again and would highly recommend it. The location was ideal for discovering this beautiful part of Italy.

This was the most beautiful property we stayed at in our 2 weeks of travel throughout Italy. It was clean, conveniently located and an amazing value as well. The breakfast was wonderful, with lots to choose from including cereals, meats, cheeses, yogurts, as well as a variety of drinks. The breakfast room was beautiful as well, there were tablecloths on the tables, and we ate off of china. The location of the Jolanda was very convenient, just a short walk to the water, as well as shopping and restaurants. We were in a group of 10 people (2 families) and all of us loved staying here. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this part of Italy!

The woman at the desk, named Vivanna, was very rude to us from the start. She was very warm and friendly to other guests that were not Americans. The worst time came on the last day we were staying there. We took some of our luggage to the car before breakfast, which was parked 4 spaces from the hotel. Vivanna ran out after us to the street and was yelling at us "What are were doing? What is your room number?" We said we decided to take out some luggage on the way down to breakfast. She kept yelling to us.."What is your room number?" We felt very embarrassed in front of other guests standing outside the hotel. She treated us like we were criminals. After we ate breakfast, we checked out and I asked Vivanna if we had done anything to offend her. She replied, in a puzzled way, that we had not. I inquired to her why she ran after us to the street. She said many Americans leave without paying their bills. She repeated herself and said it again. I told her that I thought that was an odd thing to say and that it was apparent she did not like Americans. The other staff were very helpful and courteous. I am not sure I would return to this hotel again due to that embarrassing experience.

Overall the hotel was very, very nice; no complaints. A few blocks away from the water and restaurants and the room was clean and quiet. I was disenchanted with a female desk clerk. We loved the Hotel Jolanda. The day staff were very competant, helpful and knowledgeable. We arrived late at night and there was a bit of a mix up and limited English speaking capacity. The breakfast was lovely. Just a short walk into town--and Santa Margherita Ligure is a nice sized town, lovely-- with a good range of restaurants. We wished we could have stayed longer but went onto the Excelsior Palace Hotel in Rapallo. Good value for the money, in pricey town. We stayed in the Junior suite, although the bathroom was still a bit small. We would definitely stay there again. It seems very popular, and you probably should reserve in advance. Thanks for the great service.

Hotel Jolanda was lovely. The room was small but adequate. CNN in English on the TV was a plus. The location is an easy walk to the waterfront. With not too much luggage it is a doable walk from the train station down hill but it's an uphill hike on the way back so you might want to take a cab if you have too much to haul. The common areas of Hotel Jolanda are beautifully decorated. The breakfast was excellent and enjoyed in a lovely courtyard. Although not on the water, the price was good for being the high season in Santa Margherita Ligure. Would definitely recommend Hotel Jolanda.

Hotel Jolanda is a lovely hotel with a great location-- very close to the train station and to the main area in town. In a 5 minute walk, you're at the water. Our room was spacious (in European standards) and clean. We even had a balcony! The decor is lovely and the A/C really helped during the hot summer months. Breakfast is included and served in a pretty outside garden patio area. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends. The value for the money is excellent especially for the pricey Italian Riviera. And booking through venere.com was great. They were accurate with the information provided and the prices posted were really a great rate. I will definitely book through venere.com in the future.

Advantages i. Clean, bright, nicely decorated rooms. Our friends, who traveled with us, got a balcony with their room. We shared a nice meal of wine, bread, cheese, and fresh fruit out on their balcony. ii. The hotel has numerous nooks and crannies and is comfortably furnished. It has a work out room, but it is not open 24 hours a day. iii. Breakfast – 3 or 4 types of bread and rolls, ham and slices of cheese, fresh fruits, 2 dry cereals, 2 juices, coffee, cappuccino, tea, and hot chocolate iv. The air conditioning is very quiet and cools the room, if you need it. v. Easy walking to and around Santa Margherita. The hotel has bicycles that hotel guests can ride; this is a great way to get into Portofino while automobiles queue up for 40 minutes at a time to drive the 4 to 5 kilometers (that’s 2.5 to 3 miles for Americans). An aside, don’t go to Portofino in a car; take a water taxi or ride a bike or motor scooter. vi. The internet point costs 2 euros for 15 minutes, 4 euros for 30 minutes, and 6 euros for 60 minutes. It is usually available. vii. The staff is pleasant. Some have better English skills than others (important for Americans who didn’t take the time to learn basic Italian phrases – yeh, I was in that group). Disadvantages i. Italian hotels seem to be optimistic about advertising distances from the train station to their geographical location. The Jolanda is not a simple hoof from the station; it is nearly a kilometer (that’s about half a mile for you Americans) - down hill, which means that you walk uphill going back to the train station. Overall – considering the expense and comparison with other hotels of similar caliber, I would give it three stars.

The Jolanda hotel is in a great location - within a minutes walk of the sea. The hotel room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. However the rooms were extremely noisy. It is possible to hear conversations from the rooms adjacent and in the morning the traffic noise becomes unbearable at about 7 o'clock. As we stayed in the off season this hotel was good value for money but you will need ear plugs.
