This is my first visit to St Giovanni Rotondo home of the shrine of Padre Pio. We had travelled as Catholic pilgrims and our stay here was both spiritual and peaceful. We enjoyed ourselves because of the pleasant hospitality offered by the brothers Donalto and Luciano and family who managed their family run hotel. They had sent and fetched us to the church where the body of Padre Pio was open for public display, introduced us to the best tasting pizza we have ever eaten and their care for our kids. We thank them for welcoming us pilgrims. Graazie!

The hotel staff were wonderful people, they help us with everything we asked for, the dinner we had at the hotel was wonderful, we had breakfast the next morning which was a croissant coffee or tea which could have been a little expanded but was nice, the shower needs to updated a bit but everything was clean and if I return I would go back to the hotel because they made me feel at home. thank you Mr. & Mrs. Fiore

A must stay!! Having never been to San Giovanni Rotondo before and taking a total shot in the dark I made my reservation at Hotel Leon based on other's comments. I was not dissapointed in the least and the accomodations of the brothers (Donato and company) far exceeded my experience in any other hotel in Italy. They offer a free shuttlebus to take you to Padre Pio's shrine and are totally accomodating to what ever we needed. Not to mention their prices were very reasonable and even their restaurant was first class. Seriously, this is a must stay.

We spent two nights in the hotel Leon, the weather conditions were very poor snow but we were made feel very welcome and the family went out of their way to help us. They drove us to the shrine and to the bus despite driving conditions being very poor. Thank you very much

This was our second stay at the Leon. We were extremely pleased the first time and were just as happy this time. The owners are always friendly and accommodating. The room and meals were good and the family provided transportation to and from the the Saint Pio Shrine. We couldn't be more satisfied and recommend the Leon to anyone visiting San Giovanni Rotondo.

Very large establishment, good parking, friendly staff. Large room with very good bathroom. Excellent restaurant meal at a reasonable price. Quiet at night despite main roads nearby. However very noisy evenings with a continuous flow of tour groups being fed and entertained and cigarette smoke of course. Wifi was intermittent but staff went out of their way to help. Continental Breakfast was biscuits and jam but overall good value for money.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my parents. We really enjoyed our stay. Donata the manager picked us up in town on our arrival as we had missed the stop. The service at this hotel was fantastic. Donata did everything he could for us, brought us to the sanctuary anytime we wanted to go, collected us again. We were embarassed in the end because he had brought us so many times. This man is great at multi tasking and never gets annoyed or flustered. He is there all the time and does everything. While we were there, we felt like part of the family. Two of us were on special diets and Donata and his staff cooked us special meals which were delicious. Hotel staff are very friendly and competent. I intend to go back to SG in a few years time and I will definately be staying at Leon Hotel. Do not hesitate, book now - you will not be sorry.

Tutto perfetto.

My sister and I would like to thank Carmen, Donato and Luciano for their friendly and excellent service during our stay last April 3rd to 5th, 2008. It was especially nice for providing transportation to and from the Padre Pio center. Thank you Carmen for getting us our bus tickets to Foggia and thank you Donato for getting up early to get us our breakfast and helping us with our luggage and driving us to the bus stop. Hotel Leon is truly a very friendly family run hotel, I recommend this hotel highly, especially for those who wish to visit the Padre Pio center.

I was in san giovanni rotondo this feb. I was with a group of friends and we stayed at leon hotel. Our group did not know what to expect in that place since it was our first time. Donato, the owner of the hotel, picked us up at the bus station and made us feel at ease. He drove and picked us up where we went to esp., going to padre pio church. leon hotel is family owned restaurant. Even the family made us very comfortable and safe. Leon hotel is very friendly and family oriented. I recommended it to all my friends who would like to go to san giovanni rotondo to visit padre pio.

The staff was more than helpful. They spoke fluent English and made sure that we knew the bus schedules, drove us to the Padre Pio churches, and provided the best service available. We are very happy we stayed here and would recommend Hotel Leon. They have a nice restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. Most of San Giovanni Rotondo is not very "clean", but the hotel provided a comfortable and hospitable stay for us on our trip! Thank you so much!

Very nice hotel in vicinity of San Giovanni Rotondo to visit Padre Pio's shrine. Perhaps the best part is the outstanding dinner with the half board. Also, the lunch is great with full board and the portions are outstanding. A much better value than the tourist restaurants near the shrine. Luciano, one of the kitchen staff will drive you to the shrine which is about two miles away. The staff was super friendly, almost like we were family of theirs. I highly recommend Hotel Leon. Enjoy your stay there!

Very nice staff, very helpful and friendly. there are only two issues we had with this hotel: large groups trumping up and down the uncarpeted stairs LATE INTO THE NIGHT coupled with the thin walls made it quite noisy. secondly the shower was SO small. if you are slightly overweight you will NOT fit in to the shower!!!

This Hotel is an excellent Family run hotel, where everything is perfect, the staff and manger are very friendly, we were looked after by the manager very well, he couldn'd do enough for us, there is a fantastic shuttle service between the hotel and the Monastry where Padre(now Saint)Pio lived for almost 50 years. Once again we would like to thank Donato the manager for doing everything he could to make our in San Giovanni such a special one

Our stay at the Hotel Leon was a very memorable one and made all the better by the attention we received from owner/manager Donato and his family. We were driven to and from the Sancturary every day when we were ready by Donato. The room we had was spacious and clean, some road traffic noise early in the morning but it didnt bother us. The meals served here were excellent and the chef whose name i cannot recall made sure every evening that we got what we wanted. We would have no hesitation in returning to the Hotel Leon again.

From the moment we arrived to the time we left the service was first class. Donato (the owner /manager) dropped us to the sanctuary in the morning and picked us up later on when we wanted to return. The evening meal is excellent value-breakfast could be better, something like a buffet. However it is sufficient. My mother thoroughly enjoyed her stay and would go back again. My only regret was that we were not staying another few nights!

Rooms were clean and spacious, the food was good and the service excellent. We would definitely return to the Leon.

The staff at Hotel Leon are really friendly and welcoming. They are pleased to help with anything. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and we had plenty of clean towels every day. We enjoyed our stay there and would happily go again. We were given a very basic Italian breakfast, but we felt this was a really value-for-money and friendly estalishment.

During our 28 day tour through six European countries our stay at Hotel Leon was the best. The owner/manager, Donato, was a most gracious and accomodating host. The food service was the most reasonably priced we experienced in Europe and of very good quality. The owner/manager provided transportation free of charge to the santuary of Padre Pio and back again. We highly recommend Hotel Leon when visiting San Giovanni Rotondo.

Hotel Leon is a family run Hotel. We received a very warm welcome when we arrived . We had found information on the web site which gave us precise instructions on how to find the hotel very helpful . These were very accurate and made our journey straight forward. As Hotel Leon is on the outskirts of San Giovanni Rotondo, the Hotel owner. Donato went to a lot of trouble running us to aqnd from the sanctuary. He picked us up and collected us 2 times in one day at no charge, This was a great help because we had elderly parents with us. The hotel staff were always very friendly and willing to please. The food was very good and our children even enjoyed it . On the whole we enjoyed our stay and want to come back again. We really enjoyed our visit to the area and all the sights that the area offers, I would highly recommend this hotel to my family and friends

This was definetely the most accomodating hotel we stayed in in all of Italy. The family run albergo was most accomodating and enjoyable. Speaking a little Italian was helpful but we really felt we were part of the family. The main man "Donato" couldn't do enough for us to include wonderful meals and an early morning rise (6 AM) to make us coffee before we left. I invited him to come to Calif so I could be as accomodating. Wonderful wondeful experience !!!

The hotel is a hard working hotel plenty going on. the management works hard to make you feel welcome. you have to request non smoking room in person. the hot water in the bathroom was only warm even though we complained about it the management said it was the best they could do. this might be due the the fact the hotel works hard and has lots of guests, so the demand outstrips the boilers capacity.

Hotel Leon is run by the owner's family. You feel at home here because every member of the family wants you to have a happy stay. To arrive by train, you get off the train in Foggia (which is north of Bari on the map). San Giovanni Rotondo is on a peninsula, up in the mountains. In Foggia their is a good bus service to San Giovanni Rotondo. The bus stop is just outside the station. In the station is a kiosk where you can buy the bus tickets which you also take for the return journey as there are only single tickets. The journey takes about 50 minutes. The Hotel bus stop is after the first traffic lights as you come into San Giovanni Rotondo. You cross over and take the right hand turning and the Hotel is on your right about 2 minutes from the bus stop. As Hotel Leon is on the outskirts of San Giovanni Rotondo the Hotel owners take you to the Sanctuary and collect you again whenever you like. They picked us up sometimes 3 times a day, even after 11.00 p.m. at night! They were always very friendly and willing to please their guests! As there are lots of events that take place at night, we were very happy to be taken to the Sanctuary and back home late at night. The food was good and sometimes Donato asked us what we would like especially to eat in the evening and he went shopping specially to get what we wanted. There was plenty of fresh fish, which we enjoyed very much. On the whole we enjoyed our stay and want to come back again next year. Another nice place to visit is Monte Sant'Angelo, a beautiful village with a lovely old church built in the rocks with a very interesting history. You can go there by bus from the bus station near the Sanctuary. What also must be seen is the beautiful new church which was finished being built in July 2004. It was designed by Renzo Piano a famous Italian architect, it is next to the original Sanctuary where Saint Pio heard confessions and celebrated Mass for the pilgrims. Between the Sanctuary and the new church is the Franciscan M

For the class booked and the price paid, this was a really comfortable stay with always caring and qualified staff - especially Donato, thank you very much! For pilgrim groups coming with their own bus or for people with their own car, the hotel's location a little outside the city center is no problem at all (parking in the hotel is free, near to the church parking starts at 2 EUR per day(!)). City center, church and tomb are even in walking distance, if you do not bother walking approximately 20 minutues to half an hour. In the evenings, it can be a little bit louder on single days, which, of course, is quite typical for Italy. Between 11:00 and 12:00 p.m. at the latest, silence should come.

It was mentioned that, if I don't make a mistake, that the hotel is at 500 m from the Church of P. Pio ; In reality it are several Km . However , the people are so kind to bring the guests by navette and this makes everyting OK. I would like to thank the family for their kindness and especially the father who is very very sympatic!!

I was under the impression the hotel was close to Padre Pio Shrine but infact the hotel was one of the furthest away from the place. i would normally not have stayed in this hotel as my main reason for staying in San Giovanni Rotondo was to be in walking distance of the church. Apart from the loud music during the evening and late into the early hours of the morning coming from the hotel function room the hotel was ok!
