Hotel Reviews Vecchio Asilo

Canada, Oct 2009
We booked this hotel on the internet because of the reviews and we were not disappointed. We had Room #9 which was a twin/double on the 2nd floor overlooking the main road. The room was bright and spacious, had one window that over looked the garden and the other the main road that barely had a car go by. The bathroom was large and it was sparkling clean. The nice touches were the fresh flowers and heated towel rack. The evenings had just started to get chilly October 26/27 2009 and you could control the heat in your room which we really liked. There was T.V. but not in English. Besides having a great roof over your head the Hotel Owner, Guido, is a gem. He is the Host with the Most. One of his unique talents is balancing breakfast service and speaking to each and every guest. He gives attention to every detail from lighting a breakfast candle on your table to making individual coffee orders all the while conversing with ease. Each coffee is made to your liking. The breakfast area was inviting with individual tables with linen and Italian table settings. Breakfast consisted of a hot italian bread with tomato and cheese and other yummy baked goods, yogurt, cereal, juice, and a selection of beautifully sliced fruit. Guido was a wealth of information too for dinner, sights, and driving recommendations. Ahh, if only every place we stayed in had of been like this . .

********** We spent 6 days in paradise at Hotel Vecchio Asilo. The room was comfortable, warm, spacious & had a great view - and even had good shower pressure ;-). Lovely little touches throughout the property - like fresh flowers, cedar candles and the towel racks right over the radiator so the towels are toasty when you come out of the shower. Guido (plus his Mom & brother) are perfect hosts and made us feel like welcome members of an extended warm family. Guido gave great advice on where to eat, which towns to visit, where to park in San Gimignano and tips on colloquial Italian. He even invited me to use his laptop whenever I needed to get online. Breakfasts were delicious - beautifully presented thin sliced fruit, freshly baked cakes (the pear was outstanding), penne pomodora, juice, cereal - although I must say that his cafe latte isn't quite as exceptional as everything else about the place. Overall, the whole atmosphere of Vecchio Asilo is so positive, we were even in a good mood the one day it rained. Be advised that you will want to make plans for dinners out (there are plenty of very reasonable excellent places to eat a short drive from the B&B) - or you can buy some prosciutto, cheese, & bread at a local alimementaria and have a picnic in your room or the dining room. They keep a good selection of beverages (beer, imported & domestic, San Gimignano Vernaccia DMOG, sodas, juices & aqua minerale (con gas ;) on hand. We will be back!

This is a wonderful small hotel in a very charming area of Italy. Guido, the host, is very warm, welcoming, and helpful with local information. We had an extremely pleasant stay that we sish could have been longer. We hope to return soon.

This place is not what it's cracked up to be! Located almost 7 km from San Gimignano, a car is a must and the traffic is right on the doorstep. No pool or room to sunbathe. Guido makes up for most of it, with his helpfulness and energetic aproach to life :-)

Just as described. Vecchio Assilo is in a great position with wonderful views of the Tuscan countryside. We wished we could have spent more than one night there. Great welcome from Guido, outstanding traditional accommodation and carefully prepared breakfast. We walked down the hill (10 minutes) in the evening, to the village Trattoria, which provided good local food and a real Italian family atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this venue!

As good as everyone says it is. Worth going to this part of Italy just to stay in a hotel where you are made to feel so welcome. Superb home made breakfasts. I have never experienced such friendly service. Only worry is that without Guido running it it would be just an ordinary hotel. Let's hope he doesn't wear himself out or is put in charge of the Italian Ministry of Tourism! (Not that he wouldn't do a great job!)

Probably our best hotel experience to date (we are regular worldwide travellers). Does everything you could want but with style & class in abundance. Attention to detail by host Guido outstanding. No gym, sauna, cable TV etc, just simple, clean, excellent accomodation & food in a beautiful edge of village location with superb views. We will be back!

We were a family with 2 teenagers, ages 18 & 16, spending a few days in Tuscany around Christmas. I chose this hotel based on reviews, and it certainly lived up to everyone's comments. Guido was a fabulous host - so welcoming, friendly, warm & helpful. His breakfasts were lovely,& his suggestions of places to go were great. We saw several lovely villages that we hadn't known about, based on his comments when we told him what we were doing for the day. The hotel is very small, with only a few rooms, & it is family-run. It is friendly, warm, welcoming, and comfortable. We felt more like guests in someone's house, than in a hotel. A car would be essential - it is 6 kms from San Gimignano, & located in a small village.

Ever since we found this hotel on Venere andread the comments about Guido we have been looking forward to our 2 nights here, and we weren't disappointed....Guido is a wonderful host, very helpful with restaurant suggestions, directions, etc. Fresh flowers in the room a lovely touch. Great bathroom with good shower [a rare commodity in some Italian hotels]. No internet and no fridge but Guido very obliging and we used his fridge . Would love to stay here again for a longer time.

Guido made us feel very welcome, and personally serves excellent breakfasts. Dinner can be taken in a pleasant Trattoria less than 200 m away. The hotel is close to a bend on a small road, which means there is some road traffic noise during the day, but this dies down at night and is perfectly quiet. The location is excellent for San Gimignano, but Colle is a gem and less touristy. Hotel Vecchio Asilo exceeded our expectations and is great value for money.

The Vecchio Asilo fulfilled my dream of a Tuscan vacation. The previous reviews are right on target. The rooms were beautiful and spotlessly clean (at one point, I even observed someone wiping down the screens when cleaning a room!). The rooms were spacious and the views were incredible. Guido was welcoming and helpful, making useful suggestions for dinner, a local winery tour, towns to visit, etc. One star does not do the Vecchio Asilo justice in any way--I would highly recommend it and would stay again in a heartbeat!

Guido is a wonderful host, as is his mother. The breakfasts were among the best we had in all of Italy, done with generosity and flair. Hotel Vecchio is an a lovely area with good car access to Tuscany sites, especially lovely San Gimignano. The Hotel is lovely, but is unfortunately at the turn of a major traffic area and the noise at night is significant. It would help to have a loud fan in the bedrooms to lessen the noise.

Guido, his mother and brother run a perfect small hotel. Guido made you feel it was your home. The breakfast of fresh cut fruit and hot burchetta, along with fresh juice, coffee and a different baked cake each morning. Guido always spent time with you after breakfast to go over your days adventures. He gave you maps and outlined a suggested route. He also suggested out of the way places if you had time. I had to cancel a day in Amalfi and add another day in Termoli. I told guido and when I came to breakfast the next morning, he had made all the arrangements while we were out. Our 5 days their were the best....Thanks Guido.

The only disappointment was that we only stayed one night. Guido is the consummate host. We were made to feel at home, the room was great and the food fantastic. We arrived late and Guido heloped us in with our luggage, and booked a table for us at the local restaurant. Next morning he helped pack the car and gave us sightseeing tips. If you are travelling in the area and looking for accommodation, this is a "must". We cannot recommend it more highly.

We stayed for two nights in mid April. Undoubtedly, Guido was the most welcoming and helpful host we have ever experienced. He could not do enough for us, and was extremely helpful on where to visit, and places to eat. The hotel is only rated as a One Star - but it was clean, attractive, and wonderfully warm, and the breakfasts were interesting and delicious. My only warning to people travelling to the hotel by car: the web site does not clearly state that there are TWO Ulignano's in the vicinity, and it is easy to confuse the one you don't want! The Ulignano shown on the road map that we had, was Ulignano-in-Volterra (although only shown as Ulignano). This is not the one you want. Hotel Vecchio Asilo is situated in Ulignano-in-San Gimignano. You need almost to go up into San Gimignano, before you see the sign for the Ulignano that you want. We found ourselves in the wrong village, and it took us a long time to rectify the problem - but it was worth it in the end!

All that we read about Hotel Vecchio Asilo on-line was that and much more. The personalized service that Guido and John give to their guests is exceptional. Whether you need a restaurant recommendation, directions, suggested day trips, historic sights, Guido is your personal trip advisor. His knowledge of Tuscany is more than we could have hoped for. The location of the B&B is in the best location for day trips in and around Tuscany. We highly recommend Hotel Vecchio and if we ever have the chance to visit Italy again we will definitely stay with Guido and John.

Guido was one of the nicest individuals we have ever met. He and his property are charming. We enjoyed two of the best days of our lives at his hotel. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the room was and the breakfast each morning was outstanding. It was much better than we expected and should be rated higher. We've never felt so welcome as we did at the Hotel Vecchio Asilo. The Tuscan countryside is incredibly beautiful as well. The hotel was located in Ulignano, a very nice area only a few km from San Gimignano, which is a must see. The town is incredible.

We enjoyed a fantastic three days at Il Vecchio Asilo in October 2007. The location is very quiet at night (during the day a noisy truck might rumble by the front door accasionally). The hotel is perched on a hillside at the midway point of a sharp "S" curve. Guido is a superb host and went out of his way to be helpful. He checked us in very quickly so that we could relax in Room #7 (photos can be found on this site). There wasn't a speck of dirt or debris to be found anywhere, in public areas or in the room. The breakfasts prepared by Guido were delicious and a delight to behold. Eash day Guido would prepare a different breakfast cake accompanied by thinly sliced and glazed fruits. He will also prepare your coffee any way you like. We heard Guido speak four languages at breakfast. The hotel is well-located, about 15 minutes away from San Gimignano and about 10 minutes from Poggibonsi. My wife said she greatly preferred our location in the countryside versus the hotels I considered within San Gimignano itself. There is a small bar/pizzeria down the hill in the town of Ulignano, but we never made it there in the three nights we stayed. There is a fair amount of building in the town, but it is doubtful that the new construction will bring enough residents to affect Il Vecchio Asilo's quiet atmosphere. If you're looking to be "among the nightlife" this IS NOT the hotel for you. This is a place to relax and to use as a base of operations for touring the Chianti region as well as the hill country of Tuscany. Parking can be an issue at the hotel, especially if Guido is fully booked. But if you look at parking like a native Italian, you can see parking places everywhere and it's suddenly no problem. There is NO DOUBT that we will stay at Il Vecchio Asilo again.

We read such wonderful reviews that we decided to stay here for three days during our honeymoon. I have to tell you that we could not have stayed at a better location. Guido's the most welcoming and warm host that we have ever had. His English is perfect and he bends over backwards to make everyone's stay a joyous one. The rooms are extremely clean and although this farmhouse is 200 years old, it has been restored with an enormous amount of love and talent. We never could understand why it was only rated one star and why on earth Guido charges so very little for all that he offers! He absolutely needs to raise his prices. The location is about 6 Km from San Gimignano and is very easy drive to Florence (40 minutes) and many of the walled towns in Tuscany. If you have the pleasure of staying here, meeting Guido and his Mother will definitely be a highlight to your trip to Italy. They really make you feel like part of their loving family. We hope to come back with some of our friends so we can share our wonderful experience.

First time in Italy, first hotel in Italy and what a wonderful surprise. 10 out of 10 to Guido, who was the most charming, and extremely helpful host, not forgetting Mama who always had a welcome smile. We had to see if the reviews of this hotel were true and stayed for 6 nights, longer than most people stay who are travelling through. The hotel and it's owners Guido and family were the most gracious and friendly owners we have ever met. Every care was taken in attending to our every need. The crisp fresh linens and fresh flowers changed every 2 days, the wonderfully presented fresh fruits and home made cakes for breakfast and the information and maps given before a day out were perfection. The bedroom and bathroom were huge and spotlessly clean. What more can you ask? we would recommend this hotel to everyone and will be visiting again when in Tuscany. Ask Guido to direct you to Antico Desco restaurant it is the icing on the cake!

My wife and I spent 3 wonderful days at the Hotel Vecchio Asilo in the delightful little town of Ulignano, only a five k drive thru wineries to San Giminigano. The hotel is run by Guido and his brother Gianni, along with their Mother. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, modern and spotless. The breakfast consists of juices, coffee, cappuccino or tea, fruit and homebaked cake (by Mama), along with something hot (usually what we call bruschetta). Great value for the money.

I was a bit leery before our stay here, because all the comments about this small out of the way hotel seemed way too good to be true. However, after staying there I must admit they are all pretty much right on. If you are looking for a break from the crowds of Florence and the other overly commercialized tourist stops around Tuscany this hotel is the a perfect place to unwind and take in the true rural beauty and small village ambiance of Tuscany. This is not a 5 star resort, but it is a very small family run B&B style hotel which is worth the search, And, you will likely need to search, even if you have a GPS since Ulignano, does not appear on any map I found and only on a few road signs when you reach San Gimignano. Once you do find Hotel Vecchio Asilo you will likely be greeted by Guido who runs Vecchio Asilo, along with his mother and brother. Giudo is a great host and is eager to help you in any way he can. He will gladly give you directions, restaurant recommendations, and any other information you want. He suggested a stop as we headed out on the day we left and his recommendation ended up being one of the true highlights of our entire trip. Take Guido’s recommendations…he will not steer you wrong. The trattoria in the village is about a 2 minute walk from the hotel and is perfect for a very simple pizza, or pasta meal. Like the Hotel Vecchio Asilo the resturant (the only one in the village) is clean and basic, but good. If I have anything which could be considered a complaint it would be that the beds although clean and large are defimitely firm. This is typical of what we found most everywhere in Italy, so if you are accustomed to firm matresses you won't even notice. This is coming from someone who sleeps on a pillow top mattress with a foam pad on top at home, so consider the source. I would absolutely stay in this hotel again, and would recommend it to friends and family without hesitation. Guido even knows how

Could not fault anything with this Hotel at all. Guido & his family (owners) could not do enough to make your stay perfect, various languages are spoken and understood. Service was exceptional the rooms and Hotel areas were spotless, the sheets were gleaming and pristine white, everything was good quality and done with taste. Guido and his brother Gianni offered service matching the best Hotels, which for a 1* is amazing. This Hotel should be at the very least a 3* but is held back purely because there is no Lounge/Bar, but that will be coming shortly I understand. You can still get drinks though. I have never stayed at a "Faultless Hotel" before, it makes a very pleasant change. There is a large, good quality and friendly Restaurant in Ulignano, ask Guido. The surrounding area is fantastic, well it is Tuscany!

Guido is really a nice person and makes everything possible to make you comfortable. The room is spacious, the bed and shower were good. Everything was very clean. It is a simple BB, 5 kms from the city, with few parking spaces. My room was not quiet at all. As it did not have air conditioning, we had to keep the windows open and it was a ground floor room, facing the road. In addition, from 7 am on we heard a lot of noise coming from the breakfast room in front of our room. I expected more based on the reviews I read.

Vecchio Asilo is a very easy ride to San Gimignano. That is the reason to stay here. Guido is a gracious host and goes out of his way to assist his guests. A real gem of an Inn. A perfect location for travelling around to San Gimignano, Siena, Monteriggione and the nearby vineyards. A quiet peaceful, well-maintained and well managed property. This was a charming place, thoroughly to be recommended, with very kind host, Guido, who helped us park, carried our luggage etc. He was particularly helpful over a lost coat. The only slight problem if staying more than a couple of nights is that there are no public sitting areas (apart from the garden). Basically quiet area but I was over the family's living area I think and could hear talking late eve and early morning.

A charming hotel with an equally charming host. Set in lovely gardens. When we arrived it was lovely to be able to sit in the garden with an ice-cold beer (very affordable unlike everywhere else in Tuscany!) from the cold cabinet. The hotel room was delightful. Although there was no air conditioning or fan, we were not too hot although having to open the windows at night meant having to put up with quite a bit of noise from screeching car brakes (the hotel is on a sharp bend on a hill)to carousing from the village and voluble italian conversations seemingly under our window. Quiet it is not! However, this did not prevent our enjoyment. Breakfasts were incredibly good. We dined in the village pizzeria each night. Pasta is the best option, especially the freshly made pico. There is a lovely covered terrace with beautiful views to dine on. Guido will book for you.The car rides to and from Ulignano from different directions were all lovely - on one route you pass Tony Blair's italian hideaway - ask Guido! This hotel was in the perfect sightseeing location with even the hill towns south of Siena an easy day trip.

Well it certainly lived up to other people's reviews. Guido could not have been more helpful, getting up early for our breakfast so we could make our flight. A beer on the terrace overlooking the tuscan countryside was a great start to our stay. The trattoria in the village is excellent value and really buzzing with local peple on the Saturday night we stayed. All round a good stay, we will be back Guido!

The best hotel out of a two week stay in Italy. The bed and breakfast type atmosphere, the beauty of the surrounding Tuscan hills, the freshly-made breakfasts by Guido and the trattoria in town for dinner just down the hill made this the most relaxing, wonderful experience imaginable. Just down the road from San Gimignano, Certaldo and other medieval hillside towns. Stay at this place!

We really enjoyed our stay here and it completely lived up to expectations. Guido, the host, was incredibly welcoming and helpful and gave us a chuckle every morning with his chefs hat! We will definitely be returning soon!

This is an absolute gem. Guido could not be more solicitous and cordial and the hotel is as good as any 4 star hotel anywhere...but at 2 star prices. In our travels around Italy, this was the best value we encountered...and easily the best breakfast too. The hotel is located very near to the geographic center of Tuscany. If you have a car it is an ideal base for exploring Tuscany. Guido, if you are reading this, my suggestion would be to raise your prices!

It was a beautiful place. Ulignano is very small but only at a short car drive from the mayor tourist towns. I definitely would recommend the Veccio Asilo to anyone. The hostal is in the middle of the Tuscan fields, with wonderful views and an amazing quietness. This is the place if you want to unwind. The owners are very welcoming and helpful and give you all the information you need about the area. We are willing to come back soon!

The hotel met all our expectations after reading the reviews online. The fresh flowers in the room, warm welcome, elegantly presented breakfast, and overall cleanliness and peacefullness makes this a property highly recommendable. Guido speaks good english and is very helpful with guiding you around the area. You would need a car to use this property. Thank you Guido for such a warm Tuscan experience. Canada

All services were rendered by the owner himself. Welcome, breakfast, kindness of the owner are outstanding. The bedroom is perfectly clean, nicely decorated and quiet. I do not understand why such a place is not recompensed by more than 1 star.

We loved our stay at the Hotel Vecchio Asilo. Our room was very comfortable with a magnificent view over the vineyards. Our host Guido was so hospitable and such a gentleman. It was hard to leave. We has two meals, both good value, at the nearby restaurant and a magnificent meal - there were about 30 antipasto platters - at nearby Vica d'Elsa. We were very glad to have our hire car as the Hotel is a little distance from main centres but it is a great place from which to explore the region. Our big regret is too little time there. Four nights is not enough for Tuscany!

A very pleasant find, comfortable rooms in a remodeled ancient structure, and near San Gimignano. We look forward to another stay and visit with Guido and his charming, hard working family, when we return to Tuscany. The facility was very clean and the rooms were spacious and flooded with daylight. The breakfast was so plentiful and fresh that other locations paled in comparision.

We are not sure where to start to tell you about our stay at Hotel Vecchio Asilo. Would it be the large, comfortable rooms, the clean, crisp sheets, the fresh flowers in the room every day, the delicious breakfasts, the big bowl of fresh fruit, or the gracious, knowledgeable host, Guido. All of this added up to one of the best places we have ever stayed and this hotel deserves five stars! Sondra Nelson/Elsa Schauble

1 word - Superb. Our 6th night in Italy, and the best package. You don't need to look any further. Guido was a fabulous host. From San G. Take the road to Ulignano. Go about 7 KM. When you see the sign Ulignano, go about 1 KM,and they are on the left side of the road on a tight Right Hand Curve. A wonderful place - I wish we could have stayed longer.

Accueuil très chaleureux.Charmant petit hotel entouré de vignes situé à quelques kilomètres de San Gimignano et à environ 30 minutes de Sienna. Nous le recommandons. Rive-sud de Montréal.

Vecchio Asilo is a gem tucked away in the Tuscan hills. Guido was the perfect host and his breakfasts were a delight, each morning slightly different. Our bedroom and bathroom was spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished. We stayed 3 nights and would certainly stay again. There is a good Pizzeria in the village reasonably priced, otherwise it is a drive into San Gimignano to eat approx 5Km away. I would not recommend families with young children as communal areas are limited, although there is a small garden. A car is essential,

We stayed 5 nights at Vecchio Asilo, a carefully renovated hotel, very conveniently located at 6 km from San Gimignano. Everything was perfect and I do recommend this hotel for lovers of Tuscany who want to explore this region by car and enjoy the wonderful Italian country side but be close to a town. Guido and his mother were the perfect hosts and cooked us excellent traditional breakfasts every morning. The room was beautifully renovated with a lovely view over the Hills. The huge brand new bathroom and all the other amenities make this at least a 4 stars hotel. At night the country roads are dark but, once we knew our way, we found it very safe to drive. Ulignano has one good tratoria, which may get very busy on week-end nights, so have a backup plan for dinner just in case it's fully booked. Try to go to San Gimignano on early mornings or late evenings when the hoards are gone; it's a wonderfull town and it should be enjoyed such as.

Although somewhat difficult to find, the hotel is located in a very conviniet position to explore Tuscany. But more important, Guido, the manager, wnet out of his way to help us out and made us feel really at home. Great choice!

Believe all the good things you read on the website about this place. Close to San Gimi, but quiet and secluded with beautiful views of the countryside. Guido is the nicest host you will meet in all of Italy. You'll want to take him home with you. Best value and nicest place we stayed our entire 9 days in Italy. Wish it would have been more centrally located to our other destinations....we would have stayed longer. Guido will recommend the little pizzeria in town to eat at. It is delightful and well priced. If you miss Vecchio Asilo you are missing the best gem in Tuscany

This is the best hotel I've ever stayed in Italy. It's a typical Tascany country-style hotel. The view from the room I stayed is excellent, and the owner of this hotel is very nice. I really like the resturant he recommanded. My wife and I spend 3 days here, and it's one of the best memory we had in our honeymoon.

A lovely little "inn" -- it was small, but service was excellent and room was very clean. The host was very accommodating and helpful with suggestions. The scenery in this part of Italy is beautiful, and towns quaint. It is close to San Gimignano which we found interesting and also Volterra which is worth a look.

Very good hotel. Great hostitality, very good care. Lovely and quiet small town. Beautiful and neats rooms. Breakfast was delicious and the garden romantic, a little treasure in Tuscany. The need of a vehicle for transportation between Ulignano and S.Gimignano. --HIGHLY RECOMENDED--

Guido is a wonderful host. He is so helpful that it embarasses me to accept so much help. As with many B&Bs, it is the personality of the host that makes the place, and I have to say Guido is a man well suited to his choice of work. The B&B is located 6 or 7 kilometers from San Gimignano in the village of Ulignano. This is a great location because it is so much more peaceful being away from the throng of tourists in San Gimignano. Finding the B&B can be a bit of a challenge, but with Guido's directions on the phone and a GPS, we got there. The village of Ulignano is worth a visit just for its peacefulness. I enjoyed seeing the village people sitting on their front steps enjoying the cool evening air. The village of Ulignano has only one street and only one restaurant, which has excellent food at a good price, combined with a beautiful view from the balcony. San Gimignano has been criticized for being too touristy, but my family and I found it to be one of our favorite places in Italy. We are tourists afterall. Do not hesitate to stay with Guido at Vecchio Asilo. I have two small criticisms of the B&B, neither of which would stop me from returning. The water pressure in the shower was low, and the water temperature was erratic. The breakfast was excellent but too light. Perhaps I am not accustomed to Italian breakfasts.

Vecchio Asilo Hotel served as our home base for nine delightful days touring by car in Tuscany. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The superb, caring service and attention by our hosts, Guido and his mother, was tops! We've traveled in most of Europe over many years and have not encountered such warm, attentive service that we experienced from Guido. As for its location it's situated in the small town of Ulignano, about 5 kiometers from both San Gimignano and Poggibonsi. We rate Guido and his hotel far beyond 5 stars in quality!

Well what can I say. This hotel is an absolute gem. Not only is it scrupulously clean the welcome from Guido the hotel proprietor and his mother was superb. Throughout our stay they made us feel special, looking after our every need but at the same time giving us space and privacy. I won't elaborate on Guido's great breakfasts, sufficient to say the other reviews are spot on! The hotel was once a children's nursery and has been renovated to an exceptionaly high standard, it really is something special. A one star hotel? Crazy, this should be five stars! If you want to experience real tuscan hospitality look no further. Oh and don't worry about the lack of aircon the building is old with thick walls and stays naturally cool but each bedroom is equipped with a large fan anyway. It was fine despite outside temperatures approaching 40C. Ulignano is a quiet village with just one restaurant; Zaghe and Doicce. It's five minutes walk from the hotel and whilst it's not exactly Egon Ronay and a bit basic it's typicaly Tuscan; certainly not a tourist trap and incredible value if you're on a budget. It has a large outside terrace with good views which is lovely on a warm evening. Just one warning, they speak virtualy no English, but are lovely people and serve great food so don't be put off if the initial welcome is a touch cautious. Smile a lot, be patient and they'll soon warm to you!

Great Landlord, nice house, wonderfull room, small garden at the street (but not very busy). Breakfast (probably) very italien: sweet! But it seems to be very authentic, and the landlord makes it perfect with his kindness. Simply the nicest of nice stays we had in Tuscani, even if its a bit expensiv and not really close to the city (car is a must). Wunderbarer Haus, geschmackvoll eingerichtete, einfache Zimmer.

Guido, mum and brother could not do enough for you to make your stay any more special. Spotlessly clean rooms, with bedlinen that was so perfect, I swear it was ironed on the bed! Great breakfasts too, served by Guido. Small garden to sit in after a hot day where you can relax and have a drink. The Hotel Vecchio Asilo is in a perfect position to visit San Gimignano, Siena, Florence, Volterra, Pisa, Lucca etc. The village of Ulignano has a restaurant and post office which you walk down to from the hotel. The road to San Gimignano offers many wine tasting experiences. We had a wonderful 6 days in the hotel and I would go back again and again.
