Had trouble finding the hotel (in spite of GPS), as directions were given for someone coming from the opposite direction from ours. No vista from the room. Person at reception welcoming, but at times clearly overwhelmed. Breakfast seemed hectic for the 2 owners, one of them washing dishes by hand , the other keeping track of 2 rather cute little kids while serving.

The hotel offers a lovely view over the countryside and a beautiful garden with pool. However it is located some km outside of San Gimignano and the bus runs the place only once per hour up to 8 pm. The rooms were small and the baths tiny. As we had not booked rooms with view, we looked at the close wall of a lowrise. Unfortunately also breakfast was a little poor.

A lovely clean welcoming hotel just 2 minutes by car from the town of San Gimignano. Breakfasts are good (outside in the summer) with fresh sugar croissants served every day. Nothing is too much for the two sisters who manage the San Michele and would reccomend the hotel to my best friends..

A modest hotel (7 rooms) but very welcoming, pleasant and comfortable. Rooms with view over Tuscan countryside. A 15-20 minute easy walk into San Gimignano was no problem - and afterward it's one way to shake down dinner in town!

The San Michele is a low-rise(2 storey) hotel in nice unpretentious grounds about a mile outside San Gimignano. It has a nice garden and an attractive outdoor pool. The 1st floor bedrooms at the rear give clear views out over the Tuscany countryside. The hotel is spotlessly clean,is friendly and is well run by two sisters. The rooms are spacious (especially so by Italian standards!)with good sized en suite facilities.Breakfasts were quite good although we were a little surprised that the "orange juice" was a much diluted cordial type of drink of low quality- but this is a minor criticism of an otherwise adequate meal. The available information suggests that the hotel is within a 15 minute walk of the lovely old walled town of San Gimignano. However, the traffic to and from the town makes this an unpleasant experience.Far better to take the local mini bus( every 1/2 hour or so - 50c. per journey or €1 for full day ticket!) from just outside the hotel that goes right into the centre of the town. We were 4 people (2 couples) in our late 60s on a 10 day trip to Venice, Florence and Tuscany. After the enchanting ,but tiring experience of Venice and Florence we found San Gimignano an ideal location, and the San Michele a lovely base from which to visit the small towns and villages of Tuscany- a pleasant and relaxing end to our trip.Hard to beat!

Very nice location in walking distance to San Gimignano centre. Rooms on lower level do not have any view though. Comfortable beds.

The fact that we could hear EVERYTHING that went on in the other rooms was a real turn-off. It meant that people in other rooms could hear everything we did! The hotel owners/reception staff were competent but not very warm.

This was a nice hotel. Although on a busy road we could not hear this from our room, which was at the back of the hotel. It is near but about a 15min walk to San Gimignano, which is a fantastic town. The room was ok with a disabled bathroom, which was a bit strange. They do not serve any food other than breakfast although they do have a bar. Parking is busy but safe. You need a key to access the hotel after midnight. The pool was infinity and clean. I think we would have found the hotel better if the sisters running it weren't so miserable. They and their family sat around all day but weren't very cheery or particularly welcoming. The nearest and best place for a quick lunch was Bar Mimar.

It was our (my husband and me) first stay at San Michele. We enjoyed the setting in walking distance to San Gimignano and the nice view. Next time I would make sure to get a room with a better view in the upper floor. Our window was facing a wall, about 4 meters away.

My wife and I loved Hotel San Michele. From the first moment when Roberta greeted us warmly and genuinely to the roomy accommodations and the wonderful panoramic view, our stay with Roberta, Poala and bambini was a treat. My wife enjoyed the pool and we both enjoyed the close proximity to the walled village of San Gimigniano. We would stay again with no reservation and hope to.

Generally, we liked the San Michele and found San Gimignano to be enchanting (moreso at night than during the day when it's packed with tourists). It was extremely clean and the two sisters who run it were kind and helpful. Great to have a pool after exploring Tuscany all day! My gripe is that our upstairs neighbors got up early and seemed to walk incessantly in their room (don't know how since the rooms aren't that big!) and this woke us up. Since we have this problem with our neighbor at home, I specified when I made the reservation that we wanted a quite room. As it turns out, if you're on the ground floor, there's not much you can do because the floor/ceiling is paper-thin. Had I known that being upstairs would have been quieter (albeit, at a higher price), I would have made a different choice. I'd like to add that the owners asked our neighbors to keep it down early in the morning and did offer to move us but the upstairs room was only available for one night and we didn't feel like moving back and forth. They did the best they could given the circumstances.

The swimming pool was excellent, a good size and well positioned. The hotel is situated about 1.5km from the main town - up hill. There were no places to eat nearer than that, and although a bus did run hourly they finished quite early in the day. Taxi from the hotel to the centre cost 12 Euros. But at least it is down hill for the walk back. There was a Pizza take away about half way to the town, and it was possible to take food back and eat it in the hotel dining room/bar. San G is a lovely place, and has the 2006 world champion ice cream maker! I would certainly recommend this hotel, especially to anybody wanting good swimming facilities. With excellent views over the surrounding country side. We did quite a bit of walking and the map had several mountain bike trials that were supposed to be waymarked - but a few were missing - so you need to be able to read the map.

This was an excellent choise and venue for our stay in tuscany. This hotel is owned and managed by two young sisters who are excellent hosts. the rooms, bar, and pool area were spacious and clean. The breakfast was an excellent continental style meal. We travelled the best part of tuscany during our stay and found this to be a superb base for our holiday. We would recommend this hotel to anyone, and will definately return

What a wonderful hotel! The view was beyond our expectations!! The service, food, and hostesses were polite, attentive and just everything you could ask for in a hotel. Since we do not speak Italian we thought we might have trouble communicating, but all the employees spoke English. This hotel and the staff made our vacation an excellent experience. Thank you! Located perfectly in the country 2km outside SanGimigniano, offering excellent restaurants within a 6 km area - a win. Two (attractive and competent)sisters run the place superbly, in spite of taking care of their small children, who create no problem for the guests (only for the mothers). A beautiful area, inteesting town, and a good pleasanmt stay out of the way of the crowd.Excellent choice.

The hotel was well within walking distance of San Gimignano, as described, and was exactly what we had been led to believe. The breakfast service was efficient and of good quality, though more variety would have been appreciated. The rooms had wonderful views, were kept immaculate, with plenty of toiletries and towels. We would certainly wish to stay there again when we return to San Gimignano and would recommend it to our friends and colleagues.

It is a very nice and cosy hotel, absolutely neat and clean. The two sisters who run it are very friendly and take care of everything. The only negative about the rooms was that the bathroom is very small and with two persons it is already "packed". Regarding breakfast: if you expect a big buffet breakfast you will be disappointed. You will find typical Italian brakfast with bread, brioche, ham, cheese, jam, honey, cereals and yogurt - and overall you will be able to enjoy excellent coffee!

In a quiet location (Strada) just 1 mile outside the walled town. San G is walkable (20 minutes) or you can use the cheap local hourly bus service. Very friendly sisters/owners with their 3 young children. Good buffet breakfast. No eating places or shops nearby. Pleasant swim pool. The 7 upstairs rooms get the best views.
