Le Volpaie is perfectly located between Florence and Siena so great base to explore Tuscany. Beautiful hotel, grounds and surroundings. Breakfast was vast, varied and extremely scrumptious with great coffee. The owners tried their best however their day help, Carmine was not at all friendly and in fact made asking any questions about the area near impossible, he was so grumpy. If you can tolerate that sourness on your holiday, good place to go!

First visit to Toscana. We stayed in Castell Sangimignano, small village, no shop, no church, one restaurant, in Hotel Le Volpaie. Very nice hosts, plenty and good breakfast, room clean, small, no window (only in the front door), very nice pool. All together a very nice and/but quiet stay.

We had an unforgettable stay at La Volpaie. The owners are really friendly and the breakfasts are amazing. The hotel is situated just a few kilometres from Volterra, San Gimignano and Siena. Since Castel San Gimignano is a small village, I suggest you to have dinner at restaurant "Il Calandrino" in Colle Val d'Elsa (great Italian food, not too expensive).

The Hotel Le Volpaie is a gem! Great location to drive around Tuscany, beautiful, clean rooms, the best breakfast we received in our 16 days in Italy. Anna and Luca were the most gracious of hosts, making everyone feel very welcome and special. Don't miss going to the pizza restaurant "Il Monte", great food, good price and great people. We will definetely come back to Le Volpaie, and will recommed this great hotel to all our friends and family. Thank you Le Volpaie for such wonderful memories!

This hotel was truly the best hotel we stayed at in Italy. It has great reviews on your site and it lived up to its reputation. The room was very spacious and very clean. The breakfasts were truly outstanding more like a buffet in a grand hotel. The only small negative about this place would be location as it is situated on a busy road which becomes noisy early in the morning. We had a room on the side of the road but I suppose that if you had an inside room it would be more quiet.Castel San Gimignano is a very small village and you must drive to a restaurant at night as there is just one restaurant within walking distance. This restaurant is very good but expensive.Despite these inconveniences I would highly recommend this hotel.

Excellent service, attentive staff, extremely clean rooms. The breakfast was the best BY FAR that we had during our 2 weeks in Italy. Owners and staff extremely helpful, made recommendations for dinner close by. Hotel grounds are very beautiful and the pool is clean and well maintained. The only caution to travellers would be that they MUST have a car to stay here! Located in Castel San Gimingnano, about 20 minutes from San Gimignano. Well situated between Volterra, San Gimignano, Siena and other surrounding towns & cities. I would definitely stay at le Volpaie my next visit to the San Gimingnano area!

We had a lovely stay at La Volpaie - as described by previous reviewers the breakfasts were amazing - wonderful selection with everything from smoked salmon, sliced courgettes and various cheeses and cold meats to fresh fruit, cereal and cakes and pastries. Downsides were proximity of the room/balcony to the road and a very bouncy bed. All-in-all though a great place to stay and I would certainly recommend it to friends visiting the area.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Nice pool to relax by. Fantastic breakfast. Very nice interior. Road could be a little noisy with bikes but was not a problem. As in the country area quite at night. Air conditioning very good. One down side no lift so had to haul heavy bags up staircase. we plan to stay there next time we visit the area. Recommended.

This is a little gem of a hotel! Welcoming, immaculately clean, with friendly and attentive staff who also respect your privacy, and an amazing breakfast! We stayed there a week in May 08 and we would not go back to Tuscany without staying in Le Volpaie again. The clientele is from different nationalities, and many come on others' recommendation and keep coming back. The woman who owns the hotel is a delightful lady who bakes every night for her guests the next morning. The French receptionist Thomas is very helpful and will recommend some lovely restaurants in the area on request. We had a very satisfactory if simple room with a balcony overlooking the side garden. For a little extra, you can have a beautiful room on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the hills.

The hotel is very nice. Contemporary setting and furniture, it is located a few quiet kilometers from the tourists in San Gimignano. The pool is very private. The hotel owner and hostess could not have been nicer. Even the dog is cute. Breakfast was excellent. Great value if you want to get away from the crowds in San Gimignano. Highly recommended.

This hotel is perfect for us. Our daughter (7 yrs old) was happy with the swimming pool and mini gym. Best breakfast of all with homemade cakes everymorning. NOT a standard Italian breakfast!! but with some local specialities. We enjoyed staying there. We saw one of the staff cleaning the chair and table at the terrace. It is better with own transport. You can ask for further info at the reception desk on the places to visit. We drove to Pisa, Ivorno and other places too. One evening we enjoyed our red wine at the terrace. Come and explore the Toscana view with this hotel.

This hotel was the perfect solution for us to visit Tuscany by car. It is located in a small town, more or less in the country so parking was easy, and we woke up to the sound of roosters crowing (beautiful!) It is centrally located and a perfect home base to do day trips to places such as Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, etc. The man at the desk was a little gruff and not so friendly when we arrived, but I think it was more due to the misunderstandings that happen when they speak no English and we speak no Italian. The ladies that worked in the breakfast room and about the hotel however were great! They were friendly, cheerful and helpful and spoke perfect English. The breakfast here was the best we found anywhere in Italy. It included assorted sliced meats and cheeses, smoked salmon, bocconcini and tomatos, assorted breads and rolls (they even had loaves of whole grain bread and not just that awful white stuff that is so prevelant in Italy) yogurts, fruit, and assorted sweet pastries. Of course, coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc was brought as soon as you arrived. We certainly didn't starve here! All in all, it was a perfect choice for us and we would definitely go back if ever in that area again. Thanks, Le Volpaie!

This hotel is a hidden gem - 'hidden' since it's 11 miles from the nearest town, San Gimignano, and so a car is a necessity. You can not travel to San Gimig by public transport from this hotel. Customer service is fantastic - you are made to feel as if you are the only guests in the hotel ... and the breakfast is superb. Family owned and Anna clearly has amazingly high standards. My partner and I stayed 2 nights, and we really didn't want to leave. The hotel is in a very peaceful tranquil setting and it really is the place to relax. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This hotel was a true reward; nice and quiet, it's located in a very nice area, just a short drive away from San Gimignano, Volterra etc. Also, we found it very rewarding, that near by there is a winery with extensive vineyards, criss-crossed with idyllic roads, most suitable for short biking trips, so refreshing after a days trip by car. Or you can just take a dip in the rather large swimming pool. The staff is very friendly and cooperative. In the evening sit back on the porch, take in the surroundings while sipping some red wine ... and come back the next year!

Hotel Le Volpaie is a charming hotel in Castel San Gimignano, Italy. Castel San Gimignano (not to be confused with San Gimignano) is a a lovely, small village located between Florence and Siena and about 15 km from the larger San Giimignano. The owners Lucas and Anna were very kind and helpful. Lucas offered maps of places to visit and suggestions for places to eat. The breakfast at Hotel Le Volpaie has to be among the best in Italy. Our room had a nice balcony and view of the Tuscany country side. We were touring on a motorcycle and the hotel has a garage where we could park in the evening. We visited for three days and I wish we could have stayed longer.

This hotel is excellent value for the money; although it is near the road and not sitting far back in some dreamlike Tuscan setting, you quickly adjust to the situation. Breakfast is fantastic, the best we had in our 26 day tour of Italy! Large selection of foods and breads; a fresh fruit salad, freshly brewed coffee of your choice (make mine, cafe latte!!) and a freshly boiled egg appear at your table once you appear at your table, all brought to you with a smile by the owners. They are wonderfully nice and incredibly helpful when asked for information on the area. There is no restaurant for lunch and supper at the hotel, but being Italy the restaurants are never far away! The rooms with the best views are on the upper level and are not air conditioned but have a great balconey and sweeping view of the countryside; the air conditioned rooms have a small balconey and are closer to the road with no view to speak of. Noise is not an issue once the air-conditioner is in use and the door closed. The on-site swimming pool is lovely and something to look forward to after a day of visiting in the warm (hot) tuscan sun. This 6 day stay was delightful in every way.

Lovely hotel in a quiet country neighborhood. Extremely clean & modern appearance, about 10 years old. Fabulous breakfast buffet- so much food! Meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, salads, tomatoes, eggs, fruits, juices, biggest breakfast we had anywhere! Could be too far out if you don't have a car, about 8 miles from San Gimignano, within a mile or two of several restaurants. Definitely would stay here again & recommend it highly. Beautiful pool, good air conditioning, friendly staff.
