Hotel La Collegiata - San Gimignano

While I was disappointed not to have a room overlooking the cloister as promised, the room I was given was quite comfortable. The dining room service was a wonderful and delicious experience. If you want an intimate introduction into Old World service and care, have a meal here as well. What makes La Collegiata so special that the hotel was the convent for the ancient church in San Gimi. The two facilities and their associated open spaces have a strong visual link. One "visits" the other. As you enter the Piazza della Cisterna, there is a good restaurant on the corner. Buy the combined ticket to take in the Tower climb, museum, and, the archaeological museum. The view from the great Tower is this hilltown at its best. The view is a strong indication of just how land use controls have thwarted sprawl. No wonder the town and its viewshed are a World Heritage Site. Not to be missed.

Beautiful setting, and surroundings, great food, service personnel yet to reach R&C standard.

El servicio es deplorable. Es increíble que con un personal tan maleducado e inepto este hotel pertenezca a una cadena tan prestigiosa. Lo único destacable es el edificio, que es una obra de arte. El aire acondicionado de las habitaciones no se puede apagar y casi morimos congelados. El equipaje tuvimos que llevarlo nosotros hasta el coche (el mozo desapareció). Estuvimos cerca de media hora en la terraza de la piscina esperando a que apareciera algún camarero a atendernos (a pesar de que avisamos en recepción de que no había nadie atendiendo el bar de la piscina); obviamente nos tuvimos que ir sin tomar nada. Podría seguir, pero les aburriría. En fin... un desastre! Acerquense sólo a ver el edificio, pero no se hospeden allí.

This is a beautiful hotel. The staff was professional and friendly. The views are spectacular. I highly recommend La Collegiata
