The location was superb. We were with friends who , like us, had not visited San Gimignano before so location was important. Being on the square near the cistern, the hotel was situated just perfectly for us. The staff was so helpful and attentive. The breakfast was excellent, and the view from the restaurant was spectacular. We would stay here again should we return to Italy.

This hotel is well positioned within San Gimignano, but nobody seems to have told the Reception staff what they are there for. Eye contact was difficult to achieve, and it could take some time before they could tear themselves away from their computer screen. They said 'Bongiorno' if we said it first, but it was like pulling teeth. The mobile phone was another distraction (suggesting a personal call). Lady doing breakfast was helpful, and the room really has panoramic views. They need someone with an out-going personality on Reception, who understands s/he is there to welcome and help guests.

We stayed here for 3 nights in a superior room try to get one with a view of the valley from the back it is stunning. Ideal for a relaxed chill out time. Everywhere just shuts down after around 10pm. Recommend hiring a car for a day to visit the vineyards (Closed on a Sunday)

Located right in the centre of town. I thought it might be noisy but it wasn't. Staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant was excellent both for dinner and breakfast. It was worth staying in San Gimignano in order to get up early in the morning to see the town without so many tourists as many come on day trips.

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel. Location was perfect to explore the city (small and fantastic) , with good enotecas (you can drink many types of wine) and restaurants. Also, location is perfect to go to Siena or come from Firenze. The hotel is in the beautiful main square of the city. The staff was very kind and the breakfast was very good and with a nice view of the city. We used the parking place out of the city (you can go to the hotel by car to leave your luggages).

You have to reserve this hotel not only for the price or for the quality of the rooms but mainly because is located right in the city center of San Gimignano, in one of the two main squares. Wonderful location, it's like a jump in the past The hotel is, at the end, nice especialy of you have a room with the balcony and a great view on the tuscan hills

We stayed one night in San Gimignano in 2 seperate double rooms. The hotel is situated at the center of the town, a perfekt spot to sit and relax while watching the historical buildings. Though there were a lot of tourists during the day, we had a wonderful time. And in the afternoon it became more quiet as the crowd left. This is a place we recommend.

As first time visitors to San Gimignano and to stay in the centre of the old township with easy access to all surrounding countryside, nearby towns and historic locations, La Cisterna provided a great introduction for us. Hotel staff were welcoming, helpful and very accommodating in all instances. We enjoyed our superior room's rooftop balcony with it's marvellous views and constant Air Conditioning. A delightful experience.

Stayed four nights at the Cisterna.Had a room at the rear with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside.Great service by the staff. Only minor down point coffee (other than Cappuccino) at breakfast is from vending machine.Dont let that put you off San Gimignano more than makes up for it.I would certainly recommend the Cisterna.

The hotel itself was great value for money and the view from the (shared) balcony was amazing. However the breakfast was much worse than I would expect for a three star hotel (instant coffee from a machine, no orange juice) and the breakfast service staff were sullen. Reception staff were friendly.

I spent one night here in mid Apr w/ my hubby. The hotel was an absolute beauty w/ its surroundings. View from balcony was stunning and brought us a peace of mind. Everything is near the hotel, including shops, gelateria, viewing tower, restaurants with la cisterna square is just a step away. Staffs-excellent, very helpful and attentive. Breakfast-one of the best I've ever had in Italy. The one & only minus of this hotel was noise from neighboring rooms. I could here all shower and flushes. For sure I would like to return to this hotel, if I do have any chance to visit San Gimignano again.

I wanted to lodge in the hotel Cisterna since I was 18. I did at last and I was not disapointed. I wanted a room with a view for myself and one for my teen age sons and we got a fantastic view. This hotel is one of the most poetic places I have ever been. Early morning breakfast on the terrace overlooking that landscape, is an experience worth having. The hotel receptionists were very helpful in accomodating a request for twin beds for my sons, even if it was late in the day. San Gimignano is full of turists by day, but after 6 pm and before 10 am returns to be the hill top Tuscan town I used to know.

I asked BEFORE I left Canada, how best to park the car since I had heard one cannot drive to the hotel, but park outside the walled city. The TomTom GPS was less than helpful, and the citizens of the town were trying to help, but it would have been nice to know WHERE TO PARK THE CAR for best WALKING access to the hotel. The clerk seemed not to care that there had been difficulty. Beside that point, it was the best place I have stayed in a long time. Food on menu way too salty, which ruined that. Can't beat the view though. Rooms perfect. Location difficult to get at but nonetheless it is special because of that. I would stay again in a heartbeat. January pricing was unbelievable.

The location was excellent, just what my husband and I had been searching! My husband's biggest complaint was his encounter with the very rude coffee barrista, who seemed as if she just did not like her job, nor anyone who would dare ask for a latte. Though it would not stop us from staying there in the future, her churlish, boorish attitude was offensive. The hotel, however, was absolutely beautiful!

La Cisterna was the San Gimignano hotel featured in the film 'Tea With Mussolini' so we were hoping for something less bland, but that's not the hotel's fault! Breakfast was plentiful in a room with lovely views. The bedroom was clean and pleasant, staff helpful, location in the heart of the village just what we'd hoped.

Beautiful little village in Tuscany. Had a choice between views of the square or the countryside. Country view was magnificent. Rooms were quiet and clean. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was quite large. Highly recommend this hotel. Take a walk on the outside of the wall. Tuscany at it's best.

If you are leaving luggage there after you have checked out, make sure you insist it goes in a secure locked up area. My luggage went for a trip on it's own after a mixup but in saying that, the staff were excellent in correcting the problem and ensuring they would get me to my next destination. Other than this hiccup I would definitely reccommend this hotel to anyone, especially as it's a stone's throw from the best gelato parlour in the world!

After a bit of concern driving through hundreds of people getting into the square to unload our bags the hotel , staff, and location were absolutely fantastic. As we arrived on a public holiday there were thousands of people everywhere but having said that we had no problems getting in unloading our bags and then finding a park.
