the rooms were great, the views fantastic, better instructions on parking and access to hotel would be suggested. Public parking near entry port to city is very good. No more than 100 meters from parking lot to hotel. Walking in to hotel is much better than trying to access via a vehicle. Better instructions for access would improve experience.

I think that the hotel as a three star was ok, however the price for the suite was too much for the suite itself. The bathtub was plastic, the bathroom was not too good, the furniture needs to be renewed, no ambiance, the fridge under the TV.

This was my first visit to San Gimignano. Hotel Belsoggiorno was easy to find, being just a few minutes away from the gate to the city. The room was lovely and large, the view of the countryside fantastic, and the food at the restaurant excellent. It was the hotel we most enjoyed throughout our stay in Italy (we visited Milano, Bologna, Siena, San Gimignano, Firenze, Orvieto and Roma. I highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel situated next to Porta San Giovanni. The bus from Poggibonsi stopped just outside the wall , so only a 2 minute walk to the hotel. The view from the spacious balcony was beautiful, breathtaking, we could have stayed on the balocny for the whole 2 days. very good air conditioning as well as a large ceiling fan.Small fridge in room. comfortable bed with a good sized bathroom. There is a lift. The breakfast was good with a range of cereals, yoghurt, meats, cheese. ask for a freshly made espresso - great way to start the day. Staff were friendly and helpful, use of internet/ printer helpful when planning next stage of journey. We will definitely stay here if we return to San Gimignano.

The hotel restaurant was very good, but at a couple of other places in town we felt rushed. The town is worth a few nights stay and the wine and food are good. The place is more fun at night when the day trippers leave.

This hotel was just as described. We were lucky to have a room with a shared balcony with unbelievable views. Only downside was that most guests passed our room so did have some noise on one night as happy guests returning from night out. I would definitely reccommend this hotel and location. The restaurant was good for breakfast again with amazing views, evening meals were expensive although very good quality.

it is a really nice hotel. but few things...wished that there was a elavator....it is pretty hard to get up to the 4th floor by stairs with heavy suit case tho. and breakfast wasn't on time.... people were nice here! hard to find at first and thought should have a sign around the corner.

We initially selected this hotel from Frommer's guide for Florence and Tuscany despite the fact that the guide book criticized the Belsoggiorno for its "lack of charm, too soft beds and cheap functional furniture". The bed was comfortable. Functional funiture is unimportant compared to the absolutely unparalled view of the Tuscan landscape from the terrace. There was plenty of hot water, the linen towels were luxurious, the breakfast offerings better than we experienced anywhere else and the reception staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is only a two minute walk from the bus stop. It was quiet and clean. Large room, lights on both sides of the bed, functional and quiet air condtioning, elevator service available, close to everything worth seeing. The only item I would suggest as missing from the room is a no-slip mat for the bathtub.

Fantastic views from balcony of room 321, and from Dining Room too. Great location for exploring the whole town. Enjoyed many walks of the town and overlooks of the valleys surrounding. Guests cannot park near the hotel and must park in municipal lots. We had to walk at least a km. to get back up to the hotel. Front desk was friendly, but of no real help for parking. Extremely busy town and nearby roads. Save yourself the trouble of waiting for a parking spot in municipal area P2, the closest parking at 20 euro/day and go to P1 - further, but far less busy and 6 euros per day.

The room was fairly large and clean, though a little dated. The bathroom was modern and very clean. The air conditioning worked very well and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The best part was the view from our balcony. We would stay here again, just for that!

Since I had taken my car to the garage, the recepcionist gave a room without view to my wife, who does not speak english. I think it was not elegant, becose I decided to stay here by virtue of the view, which was on pictures of the hotel.

Nice hotel and well located, once we found it. We were able to park our car in a nearby carpark for 6 euro per day, which is located about 5 mins walk uphill to the hotel. We requested and received a large room with shared balcony offering spectacular views over the valley. Air-conditioning and ceiling fan were both available, but we ended up using a/c only because the fan was too noisy and felt like it would fall from the ceiling. After a restless night from being bitten by mosquitoes, we awoke to the peaceful view again which restored our good impression of the hotel. The breakfast room had equally spectacular views and had a good selection of foods, including fresh fruit. San Gimignano was the first stop on our 5 day honeymoon and all of the following towns we visited could not compare to the beauty of San Gimignano. Highly recommend this place!

We were very happy with our stay at the Hotel Belsoggiomo. It was conveniently located just inside the gate near parking area two. The only "unexpected" we had was the cost of parking, and the parking was not marked well (we drove by it three times) but after we figured it out it was easy. I would reccommened this hotel! We used this as a base for day trips out to other villages and it worked very well.

We chose the Belsoggiorno on the basis of its location and the photos of the spectacular views from the rooms. We were not disappointed. Our room shared a huge terrace with a stunning 180 degree view. At breakfast in the restaurant we enjoyed the same view. We did not have too far to carry our luggage and the location within San Gimignano was excellent. We would certainly stay here again.

Travelling for 6 weeks around Europe living out of suitcases - Hotel Belsoggiorno was a real highlight. We were of our honeymoon and had an excellent stay in fabulous suroundings. The hotel was nice and perfect. Car-parking was cheap (5 euro/24h) 5 min. away near the roundabout. Trattorie Rigoletto right outside the main gate was a small and nice restaurant that served tasty food. Only 24 seats, so have patient if it's full. If you want to visit Belsoggiorno, ask for a room with a view. Fantastic.

Outstanding small hotel with a great location in the town. The rooms are spacious, comfortable with my room having an outstanding view of the Tuscan hills. A very well located hotel, inside the walls less than 100 metres from the southern Porta San Giovanni. The hotel stands by the pedestrian street of San Giovanni, but our room faced the other side of the hotel, the Tuscan landscape. Traffic noise from normal cars (down from the valley) was non-existent. When accessed by car there is a parking space (P2) just outside the Porta San Giovanni, but it´s often full. Another much bigger parking (P1) is a little further down the hill, generally has a lot of vacancies. Seven minutes brisk walk uphill, or take a bus with the baggage every 20 minutes (note: only until late afternoon), or drop off the baggage at the port (if you are not alone), or simply drag it uphill, it´s a ggod exercise... The hotel itself and it´s location: Fabulous.

We had one night here -2 may have been better. Once all the tourists leave San Gimignano it is very quiet and quite nice to experience without the crowds. This hotel is close to one of the gates and was easy to find. It was fairly basic but clean and spacious with a large shared balcony which was lovely. The restaurant for breakfast was quiet (so maybe better to not bring your children) and the food was good.

Our room was very comfortable and the view from our large balcony was magnificent. Just being inside the medieval city of San Gimignano was a remarkable experience. We heartily recomment Hotel Belsoggiorno to anyone who wants a quiet, peaceful, historic and interesting place to stay. We did day trips to Siena, Florence and Assisi and were always glad to return to San Gimignano at the end of the day. Thanks for a great experience. Joan and Tom Spittler, Arizona, USA

We booked this for a one night 'second honeymoon' and it was worth it. very-very good surroundings. location is optimal - only 40 meters from the road open for cars traffic but still inside the historical center closed for cars - no noise. You don't have to walk too much with your luggage, as it is so for other hotels. The ladies who ran the desk were friendly and accomodating. The room I received was a little small. When I reserved the room in March, I asked for a room with a countryside view, but none were available, which was disappointing. However, this is an excellent hotel, with easy access from the parking and bus stops. I recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in San Gimignano. Instead of making it just a day trip, stay overnight and enjoy the town without the bus crowds.

Delightful stay - kindness and attention of staff outstanding. 4th visit to San Gimignano (our 50th Wedding Anniversary trip)and we enjoyed everything about it. The hotel and the general relaxed atmosphere was exactly as we had hoped. Perhaps the only improvement (for people arriving by train) would be to provide 'phone number of taxi prepared to come to station in a reasonable time. Bus is OK, but not good for first time visitors. The views from the dining room are wonderful. We were also delighted that our room had a balcony and the same lovely views.

If you want a hotel in San Gimignano, I would recommend you stay here, if only for the view from the breakfast room, it is truly stunning and a marvelous way to start the day, the food provided is varied and plentiful also. Some of the hotels rooms have a similar view too. Our room, although facing the street and not the Tuscan countryside, was clean, modern and comfortable. It was reasonably roomy and good value at 120 Euros per night in an expensive town. The hotel is the first that one comes across as one enters the town through the Porta San Giovanni. As San Gimignano is a small place, it is easy to walk to all attractions; the presence of a few hills should mean that you earn your gelati or dinner from any of the excellent restaurants and trattoria around. Finally, the aforementioned breakfast room doubles up as a restaurant in the evenings. It serves some excellent food and is well worth booking a table. Try to time it so that you see the sun go down – it should make for a memorable dinner.

Belsoggiorno is great IF you want to stay inside the walls of the city. Noise is high because you're right over the main street. Quality is as advertised. As you come into San Gimignano, park in Parking Lot #2. You see P#1 and P#2 in blue sign. P#2 is written in small black and white sign. Come into circle in front of city. When you get to turn where you have to go right or left -- Go straight. That's #2. Walk in on main street, hotel on right about 75 yards in.

We stayed in a suite on the top floor of this hotel. The room had a balcony the length of the whole top floor overlooking rolling Tuscan hills for miles. The only sound we could hear on waking was loud birdsong and crickets clicking. A wonderful stay. Food in hotel restaurant at dinner excellent (breakfast a little uninspiring with not much choice). San Gimignano is a staple on the tourist trail. It is only when you stay there at night that you can really appreciate (and move around freely) in the place. Highly recommended!

San Gimignano is unique and beautiful. This hotel is one of the few inside the walls. The hotel is very nice, and has a great restaurant. Breakfast is good. Room a little small and antiquated - but - the views make up for it. The hotel is basically on a cliff in the elevated city. Our room had a breathtaking view of sunrise over Tuscany. Spectacular views of the countryside for miles. Dining room had similar views. We arrived in San Gimignano in time for sunset, had a great dinner at La Stella, and spent one night at the hotel. In the morning we woke and enjoyed the hotel's breakfast and then self-toured San Gimignano for a few hours before moving on. It was perfect.

This is the second time that we stayed at the Belsoggiorno. We use it as a home base for exploring the area. The location is great. It's the first hotel that you come to after entering the main city gate. The staff is very friendly and helpful and speaks excellent english. We haven't tried the restauraunt for dinner but the breakfast is very nice. Yes, San Gimignano is a tourist trap so don't plan on shopping for deals here but the town is fantastic AFTER all the tour busses have left around 5PM. However, the best reason to stay here are the views. Get a room overlooking the valley. Get up early, open the windows and just sit and watch the sun rise. It's incredible. The sunsets aren't half bad either.

Wew were absolutely delighted with our first 4 nights as we had a huge room (nr 2), with a wonderful terrace. However the last 3 nights we were moved to an attic room (nr 27, with a good window view but we missed the terrace, and the room was smaller. We were not expecting to be moved and were disappointed, and it was the same price! Otherwise the hotel is wonderful, location is perfect, dinner in the restaurant is great, although breakfast could be a little more varied! Staff are all lovely. I recommend it, but be careful about the room you book.

This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. The rooms are terrific, the staff is freindly and helpful, San Gimignano is a gem, and the view from the breakfast room will take your breath away. When booking a room, I highly recommend getting a "Superior" room. These are the rooms with views. The increase in cost is worth every penny. Although San Gimignano can be very crowded during the day, the evenings and early mornings are quiet and wonderful. Staying in the town is worth the effort.

Perfect location. We arrived by bus from the train station and walked into the city hoping our hotel wasn't too far away and there it was! It is right on the main street so expect car noise in the morning, when vendors are unloading their goods (as once the tourist crowds arrive, not many cars can get through) so bring ear plugs. The room was the cleanest we encountered while in Italy - I especially liked that the top cover of the bed was fresh white linen.

Belsoggiorno was delightful- just inside the walls of the city so easy to get to with bags (as you have to leave the car in the parking areas outside of the city itself). We received a very special room with a large terrace and amazing view of the tuscan hillsides- definately an added bonus and worth requesting! The restaurant downstairs is also beautiful- the breakfast is lovely and we ended up having a very very special dinner one night there as well- highly recommend it. We later found out there is some hotel parking for guests so make sure you ask about it as it is very limited. We used the public one instead (for 5 euros per 24hrs). If you can't get into the hotel parking be sure to use the carpark they reccommend (there are three different ones) as they all have different rates and we saved 50 euros by using the one they recommended. The rooms were very clean, very quiet- one of the best hotels we stayed in while in italy. We would DEFINATELY stay with belsoggiorno again!

We only had one night at Belsoggiorno because we moved to a Villa nearby for the next week. However, we visited this hotel for dining and assistance periodically throughout the next week. All the staff was helpful but especially Alysha?. I thought that she must be the owner since her incredibly high level of service and competence was beyond what anyone of our group could have hoped for. Each room was different but the one I was in was magnificent. It had everything plus a balcony and a view. The bed was very comfortable, the food was good, the room was very clean, and the location could not be beat. Venere.com is the only way to make your reservation in Italy since all the places we stayed through them were outstanding. Thank you.

Wonderful hotel! The staff were wonderful. Amazing views from room - we asked for the third floor - you open the window and there lies Tuscany! The second floor with extended terrace will probably work for families with children. Hotel was immaculate, the restaurant was topnotch, fine dining at reasonable prices (be sure to try the pear/cheese pudding entre! - weekends booked up quickly so we had to reserve to get a table. The hotel embodies the charm of San Gimignano. You can't put a price on that view! Location was great, on the main street but no real noise to worry about. Close to the best gelatarias, cafes, wine bar, and the town square. Evening were wonderful, a glass of wine from the winebar, relaxing by the great wall overlooking Tuscany, and running down the street to the hotel if we needed anything. Belsoggiorno has great internet service, and reasonable. This hotel helped make my boyfriend's and my vacation a dream - we found a wonderful jeweller around the corner and commissioned our wedding rings (we became engaged in Venice on St. Mark's Square) - so San Gimignano and Belsoggiorno are near and dear to our hearts - we plan on returning as soon as possible. Do stay there - you won't be disappointed. Try the horseback riding in Tuscany (hotel has information) - that was wonderful too. Best luck to all and I hope you'll be as happy there as we were. - Leslie and Jeff

We had requested triple room which included a seperate romm within the room for our 12 year old daughter. Great place to stay for a short period.

Nice, but mostly because of the town: San Gimignano is a gem! Our room had an exquisite view of the countryside.

Everything is close by. The location is fantastic. The view from our hotel room rivalled anything in town. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, going above and beyond what one would reasonably expect. The air conditioning was most welcome.

Definitely could recommend this hotel to anybody in this price class. The 3-person suite for 135EUR/night in July was spacious with beautiful views to the countryside. Location inside the town is very good and everything is close by. Hotel garage few hundred meters away was an unexpected plus. Reception was friendly and helpful. At breakfast I felt little akward with two noisy kids vs. other clientele consisting mainly 30+ couples and older people. The town itself was minor disappointment, probably due to too high expectations. I found e.g. Cortona and Montepulciano more interesting.

Hotel Belsoggiorno was a great place to stay, right inside the gate of San G. A short walk to buses and parking. Our room was big and comfortable - bedroom separate from sitting room and even had a walk in closet. The only complaint was that the air conditioning was only in the bedroom which made it quite warm in the sitting room. We had no balcony, but the windows opened out and the views of Tuscany were spectacular. Ceiling fans in both rooms were great. Chiara at the front desk spoke very good English and was very helpful. Their sister hotel, Hotel Pescille, is about 5 minutes away and offers free shuttles throughout the day. The pool is there and very nice, except for a lot of bees. Lorenzo runs the grill...best bruschetta and kebobs in Tuscany. We would definitely go back!

This little town deserves a stay. The hotel is beautiful and after Florence a welcome relief. Get a room with a balcony and stay at least 1 night.

We stayed one night in San Gimignano and it was great to wander the streets in the evening after the crowds had gone. Our room was on the back and had what must be one of the best views anywhere. The restaurant had the same fantastic view and the evening meal was superb. You have to carry bags from the car park to the hotel but this is only about 100 metres. The best car park is on the left as you approach the walls from the south, where the road bends left then right. There is an overnight rate of €15 so it is not too expensive.

We had a room with a breathtaking valley view from a large shared terrace (three rooms opened up onto this terrace with small cafe tables and chairs for each room.) The terrace was approximately 20 feet by 40 feet (an estimation by our memory of it's size) and featured the perfect beauty of the Tuscan countryside for our viewing enjoyment! Rolling hills, rustic homes, cypress trees, grape vineyards...extraordinary. The room itself was as featured on the website, a few well selected furnishings and no more, with the single french door out to the large terrace. The breakfast dining area was lovely, large beams on the ceiling and again breathtaking views overlooking the valley. The only discrepancy is that there is no "free parking" as listed on the website. Luggage can be dropped off at the hotel inside the city walls and you must park at a public fee based lot. The parking charge added about $21 euro to our one night stay (we had the car in the lot, only part of the day...leaving to go into the countryside for a few hours in the late afternoon.) The accomodations were a great value in our perspective, with this spectacular view and spacious terrace.

The staff at Belsoggiorno was extremely friendly and accomodating. They made every effort to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We loved our room! We arrived very late on our first night so we couldn't appreciate the view until the next morning when we stepped out onto our terrace. The sun was rising over the hills of Tuscany and we had the perfect vantage point. I would definitely return to Belsoggiorno and stay longer next time.

Our room was just off the balcony and had the most awesome view ever! The rooms were beautifully decorated and very clean. The only problem is that the night we stayed here it was very windy, somehow the wind outside was causing the door to the utility closet across the hall from us to swing open and slam shut. This pretty much continued all night, which kept us awake.

Comfortable room, if a little spartan (or could it be stylish minimalism?). Magnificent view over countryside. Waitress at breakfast had an attitude problem. Very convenient location, and we were able to drive car to door with luggage despite hotel being inside town walls, which was a real bonus. Would happily stay there again

The view from the window was breathtaking! A large, clean, comfortable and quiet room. The only drawback was a very narrow bathtub with a hand held shower. Breakfast was in their restaurant, also with a wonderful view.

Belsorggiorno is a great hotel and we spent 4 nights there in June 2005. We booked a suite which is a spacious room with a wonderful view over the olive groves and vineyards. We had great sunrises to enjoy every morning. Only complaint about the accomodation is the bathroom. There is a shower over the bath and very poor water pressure, which I suppose is due to the location inside San G. We found it was impossible to shower without the entire bathroom flooding with water. There is also no hairdryer, which is unusual these days. The hotel location is great and it is wonderful to be staying inside the walls of San G. We came back from a day out touring and take your pick from a great choice of restuarants for dinner. Visitors to the hotel need to be advised which parking lot to parking (they are numbered) for easy access to the hotel. It could be wise to pre-book a parking garage through the hotel, otherwise parking costs will be very high. Restaurant Dorando has sensational food if you are prepared to have an expensive night out. The lamb is superb

A warm welcome from the very helpful reception team. I requested a room overlooking the Tuscan Hills (recommended - the view is great) and was given one. The room was clean and spacious and the bathroom was nice and clean and had plenty of room. Breakfast was more than adequate, cereals, fresh fruit, breads etc. It is located just inside the gates and is very easy to find. Recommended

The best quality of the Belsoggiorno is its location, about 100 yards, if even, from the entry "gate" to San Gimignano, which allows you to get off the bus and check in/drop off your bags before wandering the cobblestoned, undulating streets of this amazing hilltown. Our room had a WONDERFUL view of the countryside (request a room on the rear side of the hotel and on an upper floor.) The furnishings were simple and sparse. The shower had no curtain and was a European-style, hand-held type. But you shouldn't spend any time in your room anyway, given the beauty of the town and its surroundings.

We both enjoyed our short stay in the Belsoggiorno Hotel, It thouroughly deserves its good reputation. Views amazing, Bathroom spotless, bed comfortable, ,location perfect, access convenient,, breakfast hearty and tasty, welcoming genuinely friendly, front desk assistance understatedly helpfull. Has its own resturant with views and other alternative eating out alfreso choices close by. Being so closely located to the front gate made settling into San Gimignano after driving down from Firenze a simple and smooth experience. We opted to park in the closest carpark near the front wall and gate for 15 euros per 24hours for convenience. Other carparks are more distant and less expensive. They are accessed by shuttle bus.. It is possible to park outside the front gate for a few minutes to unload luggage if someone stays with the car. The police are always criuseing and issue tickets readily for parking around the small entrance park. circle road.

Didn't know you need reservations for dinner, so we missed out on the beautiful dinner view - but enjoyed it for breakfast. Stunningly beautiful views, quiet town. Very much worth the stay to enjoy San G in the evening and early morning without the crowds. Would definitely go back.

This hotel is located just inside the main gate and therefore extremely convenient for arrival by car, taxi or bus. All the staff were helpful on arrival, my booking was quickly located and keys ready. I had requested a room with a view of the tuscan hills but had been allocated a room overlooking the town. No problem at all. There room was changed without any hassle to one with a view to die for. If possible do try to get a room with a terrace and view, it is well worth it. Breakfast was superb and the restaurant has the same breathtaking panoramic view. I cannot recommend this hotel more highly than to say I will definitly return.

We stayed in March and at times our room was cold and we had to ask for the heating to be turned on. Use car park No1 (5eu per hr) The hotel is a very short walk through the gates, check in and ask to use the hotel car park (10eu)very close by and secure. Staff spoke good English were competant, courteous and extremly helpful. No tea making facilities in room. Basic breakfast with cooked breakfast option. Beautiful view from our room. Eat at `Chiribiri` open all day near the gate. A little on the dear side this hotel but we decided it was worth it and would reccomend.

Fantastic location but like all hotels in San Gimignano very hard to get to because of inability to drive into the city, but don't let this stop you as it's a must-see place with a view to die for. Bathrooms are poor & the rooms only adequate but location & restaurant compensate - after all you only sleep in the room.

This hotel was a joy - beautifully located, multi-lingual personnel and a view to die for. The rooms are immaculate but furnished in a spartan manner. This added to the charm of this ancient building for us, but if you are looking for posh pampering this is not it. The breakfast buffet was the best breakfast we had at any B&B. We are a family of five, with the youngest being 15, and all of us loved the hotel and the surroundings and would gladly return.
