Very nice to stay in SF. Good place in the center close to shopping and restaurants. A little noise from outside. Linen not very clean, we asked to replace them. As we had to pay the hotel directly, the employee did'nt ask us how we wanted to pay and he has debited directly our card. We prefered Travellers Cheques. Otherwise, nice to stay.

To whom it may concern, Herbert Hotel was the worst experience I ever had. I got there and they didn´t accept the reservation I made through your website. Instead, they reffered me to another hotel named park hotel. I would like to mention that I never had such experience. I talked to the manager of the hotel and the only thing she had to say is that she is sorry. They just said that they gave the room to another person and have no other rooms available. I am aware that from your side there wasn´t much you could have done on that day, but I really hope that you take this comment seriously and either stop working with this hotel or ask for some kind of explanation. I don´t believe that mentioning that they overbooked the rooms is a good reason. I would also like to add that the hotel manager gave the airline companies as an example of overbooking. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Airline companies compensate when they overbook and offer free tickets to some other compensation. I would really appreciate if you send me your feedback regarding my review of the hotel. You can send it to tsklein@hotmail.com Best regards, Tsvi Klein

There was no A/C and the rooms were really hot. We opened the window but it is right in Union Square so it was extremely loud. There is an old fashion heater in the room and at 6 am, it started making banging noises. The girls at the front desk were not very personable or helpful. The location was good and the rooms were relatively clean.

This hotel has excellent value for this price. Rooms were neat and modern, only the noise from the next room was somewhat disturbing. Also some noise from the street, but that is what you should expect here. Service at reception was not up to American standards, but would still definetely stay here again. Funny that reception was in a mexican fast food restaurant , but the burritos were okay there.

A decent place to stay for a week-long conference. I stayed seven nights. A step or two above a dive, probably on par or slightly above the average Super-8/Motel-6. Kudos for the room decor; they certainly didn't spend much, but the choices were more homey (in a good way) than the average budget hotel. Wired internet worked great, and it's something I look for (more reliable than WiFi). The provided ethernet cable was a twisted mess with the tabs broken off - functional but glad I brought my own. The staff was odd. Helpful, but very odd. A bit slow at times - had my reservation ready, but not the price (they looked it up fine). I asked for a receipt at checkout and they guy looked at me like I had two heads, but I got one. Location perfect. Don't expect it to be quiet early evenings - the area is very busy with pedestrians, street performers, and the cable car. Tons of food in the area. I never tried their in-house mexican restaurant but it didn't look bad. Everything was clean. The few other guests I ran into were decent folks. A few floors of the building are apartments (shared entrance/elevator). I didn't take advantage of housekeeping (kept the do-not-disturb sign up all week, I find the idea of maid service a bit strange, just my thing) so I can't comment on that. Not much else I can say. I'll certainly consider them for my next solo visit, but would look for something nicer when going with the family.

while there is no airco in this room we had to open the window at night, but then it was not possible to sleep by a very great tumult outside.

i stayed here on March 20 and 21. The hotel has a nice location and the room was clean and quiet. But the shower wasn't so great, there seemed not to have enough water pressure and the water was spread out and trickling. There was no breakfast. What made me very mad is that they charged a almost 50 more dollars for commission!!!!!If you walked in the hotel and booked a single room, it would cost you $85, for two nights that's $170. But I got charged 217 dollars!!!! The staff said because venere.com charges them a commission fee so they charge it from me!!!! That's ridiculous! When I traveled during my winter vacation, I booked hotels through venere.com and I didn't get charged extra commission fees!!! I don't know who to blame, the hotel or venere.com. I feel so ripped off!!

Excellent little hotel. Staff didn't always know what to do (when I asked them to reserve a shuttle to the airport for me for example), the promised internet was not working, but the location was perfect and since I was only in the room long enough to sleep it was great!

This hotel is right in the middle of the Union Square area which is great--except on weekend nights when it is quite loud outside until the bars close and the tourists clear out. Try to request a room in the back of the hotel, if possible or bring earplugs. Otherwise it was a good fit for us--clean and centrally located for a good price.

Yup - it's upstairs from the (reproduction of a) diner. The room was pretend-chic: a little paint, and a colored bedspread, and voila - you have a (pretend) chic hotel. The bed quality was acceptable; not nice, but acceptable. The Internet connection is WIRED (not wireless), and the front desk doesn't have long cords. So bring your own (retractible if you have it.) Sink/bath was acceptable. All in all, a reasonable value for the money in a central location, not far from conference centers. Just don't think it's a high-end, chic-novelle hotell in SFO. It's a wannabe, but without the captial investment to make it one.
