The Cornell Hotel de France features a fantastic central location in San Francisco, just two blocks from Union Square. Originally built in 1910 with a Beaux Arts design, Cornell Hotel de France has been owned and operated by the Lambert Family for almost forty years.

The Lamberts have created, in the center of San Francisco, the kind of small 3 star hotel that may be found on the Rive Gauche in Paris. For an affordable price, guests receive the personal attention and comfort of a charming bed & breakfast style accommodation.

This San Francisco city hotel is unique and distinctly European: easy going, and profuse with art and history. Guests can take advantage of complimentary wireless Internet, the multilingual staff and luggage storage service, while the on-site Restaurant Jeanne D'Arc offers authentic French cuisine in a romantic setting.

A nice one-of-a-kind hotel, simple but charming. Good location, but a steep climb the last block up from Union Square. Excellent breakfast with fast service. We had one dinner in the hotel restaurant--an excellent prix fixe meal, though not inexpensive.

This was a really great stay at a quaint little respite from what was a very busy, conference-filled Union Square section of San Francisco. Other than the slight hill to get to the Cornell from Powell and Market, the neighborhood is really great. I'm just glad I'm not even further up Powell and have to climb those 45 degree hills! As far as the Cornell, it was pretty much everything I expected with some old world charm that could've easily added a premium to their completely affordable rates.

The room we had (603) was very small along with a very narrow bathroom. To make it comfortable the room was packed with furnitures, i.e. small table with 2 chairs along with chest of draw and a bench as well as the double bed. The storage was an alcove just about big enough to hang a couple of items. Between the room and bathroom, the gap was about a foot but be careful when getting in and out of bed that side as there is a radiator vent stuck out on the skirting which I managed to catch my leg. The shower had plenty hot water but only drip so be prepare either get scolded or cold shower. The issues with the shower was mentioned to management but nothing was done during our stay (10 days). The plus side is central and room was very quiet but for the money, you can do better.

For business people a early breakfast would of been great. Maybe start breakfast about 6:45 or just have coffee out for the early people.

Nice, quiet and very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's very small, very similar to a bed and breakfast. I live in LA and I like to go up to San Francisco for a weekend now and then and hotels can get pricey. The Cornell Hotel de France is perfect for a quick weekend getaway.

I was traveling as a single, female and loved this location. The rooms were clean and small, so if you plan to spend a lot of time at the hotel, this one may not be for you. But there is a lot to see just outside the hotel door! Breakfast was provided but I chose to eat at some of the cafes nearby so I cannot comment on the breakfast.

Lovely place, nicely decorated. Free breakfast and wireless wifi made it a good deal. Staff were great. Phone was broken, but staff let me use the phone next door in the suite.

The hotel was in an excellent location. I found one of the staff memebers to be rather unhelpful. It was a holiday weekend and I was inquiring about MoMA hours, she handed me a phone book and told me to call myself. As the phone in my room was not working she begrudgingly looked it up on the interest. Also, on the webiste it stated that there would be complimentary shuttles from the airport, which there is not. It also mentions that you may get on any shuttle going to Union Square, which you cannot. Breakfast was excellent, but only served for I believe 1.5hrs. I did not have a chance to eat at the restaurant because it is not open Sunday and Monday.

The location is superb, three steep blocks from Union Square and close to Chinatown, so take this into account if you plan to walk. The personnel is friendly and unobtrusive and the hotel, small and quaint, with a definite French charm. Rooms are definitely small but quiet. Tip:If you do not find a hairdrier in your bathroom, ask for one, the front desk will provide it.

It was a good hotel. Although it is in the middle of a hill, the location is very central and there are cable cars just in the corner. There was no conditioning air in the room I stayed, just a fan. The room is quite small but is quiet and clean. There was free wifi internet in the lobby. Although there is nothing exciting about the hotel I would recommend it.

This was a great place for the price. The room was small but had everything that we needed. The location was excellent not far from Chinatown or Union Square. The breakfast was large and satisfying though there were only 2 choices--french toast or eggs & toast with fruit juice, fruit, coffee or tea--in a pleasant environment. The hotel was short handed at the check in area which I would consider a problem at times.
