People will complain about this hotel because of the location and the noise... It is in a sketchy location, but I certainly knew that before booking, and am still very happy with my experience. Also, the hotel is older so the noise is increased. You can hear your neighbors, especially where the door opens to form a suite. But overall this was a great value. I pan on staying here again.

It may be located what others consider a bad area causethere is a soup kitchen around.. We walked to Union Sqr from there no problem. Hotel provides transportation if you do not wanna walk but it is secure area. I am from Manhattan and travel the world. Homeless are everywhere. Plus they are cleaning the area. but it is great.. Service amazing.. bkfast superb.. rooms clean and comfortable.. Staff at restaurant amazing day and night.. Great Wine selections...Take the Time to talk to employees, great selection of workers..

I was in San Francisco for the first time in vacations. A very nice trip and a beautiful city. The hotel was good and quiet, good breakfast. One detail, the neighborhood is with a lot of homeless, all the street of ellis street, they are not dangerous.

We travelled the US for 1 month & stayed in many hotels of comparable quality in other US cities that were generally better value for money. We had a 3 night stay at the Cova in July 2013 & overall we found this to be very pleasant & enjoyable. Whilst we found that there was a good range of foods on offer at breakfast time, the lack of cutlery & crockery impacted significantly on our breakfast experience. Guests frequently had to wait for plates, glasses, mugs & cutlery to be brought from the dishwasher. When staff did appear from the kitchen area with these it was often just with a few items at a time. This problem could be easily rectified through the purchase of additional items. We were also a little dissatisfied with the price for parking - we had a 7 seater which we had been able to park in 'normal' car parking spaces at other hotels, supermarkets etc, but were charged a higher rate at the Cova as our vehicle was deemed to need a larger space. San Fransisco is well worth a visit & the Cova is within easy reach of its many attractions.

In the center , very close to Union Square, Nice rooms, good bedding. Breakfast is ok, much choice. We booked early and had real good value for our money. I've read a lot of critics about the Tenderloid, but we never felt unsecure, even walking around even at night. Anyway, you see a lot of homeless all over San Francisco.

The hotel room is quite good and the staff try to provide a good service. The big problem is that when you go out at the street there are hundreds of homeless and it was quite scary for my family. There's something to do urgently in San Francisco to solve this disaster.

very nice hotel, really couldnt fault it,very helpful staff. the homeless people in the area dont give any problem at all,you only pass them on the way to Union Square-they dont bother you- and at night we generally got public transport/taxi anyway back from town. for the price paid would stay again-i think if this hotel was in a better area they would charge double

The room was large and very pleasant to be in. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Location was very good as we could walk to the bus that took us to the Golden Gate Park. Breakfast was good. The roof top has chairs and tables where we could sit and read on the sun. It was lovely to spend time in this hotel.

Our room was clean and they wouldn't let us check in 20 minutes early that doesn't even make sense. They didn't try to explain the shuttle to us, just pointed to a schedule.

The staff at reception were very welcoming and friendly. It is very close to the main shopping area (Union Sqare) where you have all the shops you could ask for (designer and high street)This hotel is very clean and the Personal is very sympatical and professional, Good breakfast. the shuttle is very welcome to drive in downtown. I a very happy to choose Cova Hotel. The price is not so expansive than the other in San Francisco for the same comfort.

Cova hotel was clean, comfortable, & reasonable value for money. The location is within reasonable walking distance of public transport, shopping, & restaurants however be prepared for the homeless people on Ellis & surrounding streets, & catching a cab on Ellis was almost impossible.

The Cova hotel has a depressing '70s decor which needs to be updated. We had trouble understanding some of the reception staff and I believe they were speaking English! My daughter has severe intolerances to lactose and gluten which were made clear at the time of booking. I was very disappointed with what little food they provided for her breakfast and also not knowing or bothering to find out if the cold meats on offer had either gluten or lactose in them. I was also very disappointed with the tea and coffee facilities in the room. You had to heat your water up for making tea in a coffee filter machine, so the tea had a musty coffee flavour. YEUK! The phone wasn't working in the room and I had some important calls to make, so I reported it to the reception who were unsure if I wanted it fixing or not! The room service lady was excellent. The room was (old) but immaculately clean. The beds were comfy and made really well, the sheets were lovely and fresh, the complimentary toiletries were fantastic and the towels were fresh, clean and fluffy :) One last thing, if you go back to the hotel at night, don't walk, get the courtesy bus to pick you up from either Union Square or Fishermans Wharf. We (Mom & 20 year old daughter) were quite frightened by who crawled out of the woodwork wnen the sun went down!

The neighbourhood of the hotel is not secure at all : We saw a lot of 'crazy' and 'drug-addicted' homeless during nights and days. Marijuana is also very easy to find all around the hotel which is however well located in city center.

We loved our stay at the Cova. My husband and 2 teen children were impressed. The employees were competent and friendly, and the mattresses were perfect. Shower water temperature was hot and had strong pressure. The complimentary breakfast was wonderful, there was a nice assortment of breakfast foods. The staff working the breakfast area was attentive, kept the tables clean and continually brought out food to replenish. We will definitely stay here again when we travel to San Francisco in the future.

the area is not for the faint at heart. Plenty of homeless and drug addicts, some of them going right after you. The hotel is pleasant enough, but we hurried to and from the hotel- as soon as you enter Tenderloin, it gets bad. Breakfast room was too small as they had a group in the hotel where 50 people were having breakfast at the same time. we ended up standing around 20 minutes until we got a table.

my stay was good on 26 july, but when I came back on 16 august I had a voucher already paid but they told me there was no availability due to technical problems and they offered another hotel in chinatown. As I started calling 1-866-...for help they immediately found a room for the night.
