Was clean enough. Not hotel clean/pristine, but more like your friend's grandmother's house clean. Could use new carpet and a new paint job. The rooms are indeed tiny and the elevator only holds 3 people, but the staff were really excellent. For the money, definitely worth it. It is a two star hotel like most websites say, but it has great staff, location, and price, so overall, definitely worth the value for the money. There are homeless people outside, but not dangerous. Homeless people are also outside of the really nice hotel, like the Hilton and Nikko and in Union Square. San Fran has a lot of homeless people because the city is really kind to them. So expect some panhandling no matter where you stay in Union Square. This nice area is adjacent to Tenderloin, the not so nice area.

The hotel is depressing. Structure and furniture are old. It smells deli. My room was clean, I must say. But bathroom towels were old, greyish and often stained, although I asked for change every day. They advertise free wireless network, but it is deadly slow: forget using it for work or voip calls, it's ok to download email (but no attachments!). Breakfast is poor (coffe or tea, muffins, bread, jam and bananas), they do not have a room for it (they "serve" it in the hall, without tables and chairs), the hygienic conditions of food seem worrying (butter was melting in a basket every moring and reappeared the same the next day). The price is relatively low, but in absolute scale it is very high for the modest hotel quality. For 20-30% more you can stay in one of the big chain hotels in the neighbours. you just need to book in advance (hotels in SF have a price policy subject to tHE "supply and demand" law, so you can easily find good offers). Last but not least: safety seems to be an issue: in case of fire stairs and aisles are narrow. Not suited for young childrens (windows open at 20cm from the floor, even at the 5th floor, without protections!). I'll never book there again.

The hotel was as described 3 blocks to Union Square. This City is really expensive so we really got what we paid for, it was on par for a Euro hotel sub par for a US hotel. The front lobby was nice the rooms have cheesy decor. The building is old and funky. I'm a building contractor so I noticed a lot imperfections and lack for detail all over the building and in the room. So the location is it's biggest and maybe only draw, it's just a place to stay in the middle of the city so have fun exploring the city not the room!

Breakfast happens in the lobby where there are not nearly enough seats and tables, plus it's kind of cold there. Wifi only works in the lobby, not in the rooms.

it is a charming little place, recomandable all together. Only the breakfast could improve, they should use next door's bar (same owner) and charge a few $ more. Some of the reception employees where slopy(on my birthday I advised them to call me (taking breakfast right next to them), they didnt even listen to me and all my oversee-calls got lost. Is an Hotel for people who does not expect "the grand hotel". Very clean and comfortable. Little room but enought for short stay. Little breakfast, but good. Only one suggest: if you arrive at the hotel at night be careful outside the hotel. In the morning no problem. At 5 minutes from Union Square e to the stop of cable car.

Accomodation acceptable - central location etc. Had issues with staff being very new and initially putting us in the wrong room (1 double bed for 4 of us)

Good Hotel, Our room is very quiet (but there is a wall face to our window) Situation excellent to visit San Francisco WITHOUT a car. Very easy to reach the hotel via BART (Public Transportation). If you really need a car, the hotel can provide a parking but it is very expensive (25$ per night). In fact, it is a little bit hard to find a place to park the car in the district for less than 15$ per night (the price for the parking located 2 blocks from the hotel)

We are low-maintainence budget travellers, and this hotel suited us perfectly. The rooms were very small, but clean and comfortable. There are some excellent little restaurants located within a just few blocks of this hotel...ask the staff for their recommendations. Note: Internet access is only accessible from the lobby and the first two floors of sleeping rooms. If you need internet access in your room, be sure to specify upon booking.

Small rooms, noisy (street side), very well-situated, friendly staff, good breakfast but place too small compared to the number of guests. Good prices if you reserve by advance and on web. But we reserved one more night on place one week before the needed date and the price was much more expensive (129 $ compared to 79 $).

Our room (1 queen bed) was very small, but other rooms were bigger, so I recommend to ask for big rooms, when availabe. Brakfast was a little bit poor, coffe, tea, muffins and bread with jelly.
