You get what you pay for. The rooms are not excellent or fancy, but it's a place to sleep, and there's plenty of space. The bathroom was not the nicest, but it's served its purpose. Overall, that was my impression of my stay: wasn't there to be overwhelmed by excellence, just needed a bed.

I was really surprised by the kindness of hotel employees and by the cleanliness of the rooms. Little things like a nicely folded towel and so on just gave the impression that the hotel owners care about guests to feel at home. Free wi-fi worked great. A grocery store is on the other side of the road and open ´til late. I checked out very early in the morning and the hotel owners were very nice and kind and ordered me a cab to the airport. If I come again to San Diego I´m surely gonna stay at Cabrillo Inn and Suites Airport again!

Not the best by any means - but - certainly not the worst. When you are going for the 'cheapest' this isn't too bad at all. The managers we thought were quite thoughtful and concerned for us, their paid guests. There are not the amenities provided for you at the higher priced lodgings but, for us, and just place for us to sleep and shower and spend a small amount of relax time, we were at least adequately satisfied. You get what you pay for - and we did get exactly that - without complaint. The bed was comfortable, the bath/shower was fine. We peeked into other rooms and it seems EVERY room has a microwave and a small refrigerator and cable TV. There are no "Do not Disturb" placards to hang from your doorknob. (We made our own from a paper plate - it blew off the knob the first night but was OK the second). However, they don't even come around to your room until [from what we could figure] until at least 11 am. All in all - if you're looking for 'cheap' - this is probably one of the best there is in San Diego. And.... walking distance to the waterfront... marinas..... great restaurants and eateries... Old town just a 6-8 min drive - Point Loma, not much more. Try it - you might really like it!! We did.

The Cabrillo Motor Lodge is primarily used by Marines on weekend liberty pass from bootcamp ready to party. If we had known this we would not have picked this hotel. They started checking in around 8:30pm Friday night and partied until 3:30am. All non-military guests were subjected to constant yelling, obcenities, drunken behavior, beer bottles being thrown to the ground and room doors slaming all night long. Our calls to the owners who live on sight were to no avail as renting to young Marines on the weekend is obviously their bread and butter. We were treated as if we were the problem and the nuisance. My wife and I had paid cash for our stay that weekend but the next moring after a night of no sleep we asked for our money back for the remainder nights and it was returned to us but with no apology. We checked into the Quality Inn just down the street for about $20.00 more per night and a world of difference in experience, amenities, and class. We try to support mom and pop businesses but in this case we learned a lesson. Unless you're a young Marine or civilian for that matter looking for a hotel that will tolerate drunken party behavior then this isn't the place for you.
