Hotel Mary - San Casciano in Val di Pesa

This is a low-end 2-star hotel, vastly overpriced for what it offers. Our room was furnished real cheap, many mosquitoes were dry-dead on the walls/ceiling and a few were still alive (end of February -- due probably to summer-like temperature in the room by strong heating). The bathroom's shower was planned (a mistake? on purpose?) to water the entire bathroom, with the result that walking in and out the bathroom was a mess. No hairdrier was supposed to be in the room, we asked for one, and we were "lucky to get one that a client had forgotten" (quoting the reception guy). We did not dare testing the breakfast, and there was a good bar less than 5 min walk distance. On the upside, the "concierge" was always nice and competent, giving good tips including a truly good trattoria with a formidable quality/price ratio. From the hotel it is easy to reach downtown Florence by public transportation.

Hotel Mary is a perfect place to stay for some nights, far enough from the Florence chaos and very near to some touristic and attractive places, like "The Chianti Road". The Hotel is located in the center of the village of San Casciano, 20 Km from Florence; you can reach the city in 30 minutes by the Pisa-Florence highway, so this is a perfect place to explore the big city without living its biggest problems that is the traffic and the difficult to find parking. In addition, from the hotel you can reach several beauty places right in the middle of Toscanian hills; i went to San Gimignano in 35/40 minutes. My room was very big, clean, with a big bathroom, a small TV and a comfortable bed, as in the description provided by Venere. The hotel holder, I think, was very kind and pleasing, and suggested us some interesting attractions in the surrounding. There is much parking around the hotel, but I think you may have to pay during working days if you want to park in front of the Hotel. I parked 2/3 minutes from the hotel, in a square with several free parks, and there was no need to pay. If you want to come visit Florence or the Chianti Valley, without spend too much money, and having a good stay, this is the perfect place.

I stayed in San casciano Val di Pesa for a couple of nights as I was in Tuscany for a wedding before moving on to Florence for a night to sample the nightlife. The Hotel Mary was excellent value and the service was akin to other more expensive hotels. The view from the piazza was breathtaking and the restaurants and bars were excellent value ...especially compared to Florence. I got a bus from pisa airport to Florence SM train station and there were buses every 30 minutes. all a fraction of the cost of hiring a car, though a hire car would be advisable to get around the beautiful countryside. The staff was extremely helpful in every way and I would have no hesitation in recommending the place for anyone staying in the area. By the way, the bus stop is very close to the hotel but you can get it wrong as the map needs improving. Otherwise excellent!

we had really a good experience in this hotel, the welcoming was nice and they kindly suggested us where to eat (in san casciano are located two of the best well known resturant of the chianti area), visit or leave the car. Even if our room was not perfectly quiet, since it is located over the street, we appreciated a lot the fact to have the balcony to smoke. It is placed in the centre of the village and from here you can easily reach the surroundings.

Très agréable séjour dans cet hotel au coeur de la toscane, idéalement situé dans une petite ville entre florence et sienne . Parking à proximité et gratuit.Chambre spacieuse et propre.Un seul bémol:les jeunes italiens qui font vrombir les moteurs de leurs mobilettes et motos au pied de l'hotel jusqu'a 1 heure du matin, dommage...

Hotel was okay. Staff was friendly. Room was always clean. Parking was away from the hotel and on the street. Not much help from the hotel on places to see and visit.

OK for one night between Florence and Siena, difficult to find--we had to ask directions as it isn't on the main road like we had thought. Smelled like cigarette smoke really badly especially the common areas. The bathroom is one that doesn't have a shower stall/curtain--just a hand held shower to use in the middle of the bathroom. All in all it was pretty clean and had decent towels in the bathroom (a plus in Europe). Price for quality is probably higher in the high season, but there was only 1-2 other people there, and it definitely wasn't high season. Also parking is difficult. No breakfast included as stated on the page. 80 euro for quadruple was more than stated on the back of the door too.
