Cocoplum Beach Hotel - San Andrés Island

I had a wonderful time at Cocoplum hotel. It is definitely not the all inclusive - luxury style hotel, so if you are looking for that look elsewhere. Otherwise, if you want to stay at a relaxed place, a bit away from the crowd, with a nice beach and friendly staff I can definitely recommend Cocoplum hotel.

Bedroom is good in size but there was a big mould stain in the wall over the bed. Bathroom hasn't been renovated since teh midlle of the last century with several broken pieces and a horrible shower(quite uncomfortable). Apart of it the rest of the premises is good and is trully on the sands of the beach.

Our stay at the Cocoplum Beach hotel was ok but could have been much better. The beach and view are beautiful but the service lacks some quality: -Our rooms wasn´t ready when we arrived (5pm) and had to wait for 45 minutes. -They forgot to change towells many days. -The restaurant service is a bit slow and sometimes shows a rough attitute. -Our room often smelled like a sewer (In fact every toilet smelled the same, they said it has to do somenthing with the water treatment...) On the other hand, rooms are quite spacy and quiet. There´s a good tourist advisory and the food is not bad. Like I said before, having one of the best available beaches in San Andres, If they improved some details, Cocoplum would be an obvious choice..

Overall hotel stay was OK for us but a few things to be noted. 1. Description inaccurate. Contrary to description: (-) Wifi only available at lobby and restaurant, NOT at rooms (-) No city maps (-) At least not advertised laundry service (-) No newspapers (-) No windsurfing (?) Not sure about room service availability 2. (-) Balcony doors are not lockable in most rooms (locks broken). We complained about this when we arrived, and got transferred to another room (Junior suite - original bookin Double room) which they allowed for us to stay for the whole stay (7 nights) as they did not bother fixing the locks and they did not have alternative rooms available. So, it was nice to have an upgrade, but the lock for balcony barely worked in that room either. 3. Hotel generally much more worn down than in the pictures. I guess the hotel has been build some 10-20 years ago and it has not been maintained properly as it shows clear signs of aging everywhere. For this reason, I do not think the price/quality is a very good match, but to be fair, I think that price/quality might not be much better in any other hotel in the area.

First time there, with my partner, and the place was a wonderful surprise. The combination of traditional Colombian politeness with the warmth of the Islanders was just great. The hotel is wonderful if you want to stay away from the crowds and the parties, is quieter than the rest of town, and the sea, at least in February, is a bit too lively with algae, but the experience is great and natural, service is really good and the general ambience great if you want a hotel run by its owner and with a small staff. San Andres is a hidden treasure and Cocoplum perfect for a "let's get away from it all" kind of vacation.
