impossible to sleep with open windows because of the noise from the street. we had a room on the back, but the noises were unbearable anyway. good, free and complete breakfast

location great, room great, breakfast great. There was street noise mainly from garbage collectors but not a big deal. The position of the hotel outweighs this little problem.

A very beautiful and unique place to stay--feels like living in the city. Good breakfast and helpful staff. Only complaint was the noise in the street below, both at night and in the mornings, made it difficult to keep the window open for fresh air. Great location within walking distance of most of the beautiful sites of Salzburg!

ottima location. Ottima nel complesso la camera. L'accesso a internet è costoso 1 euro 10 min e l'ADSL è molto lenta. Inoltre è in un banchetto a 50 cm dalla reception.

Staff is friendly and helpful. Location is good and close to old town, all in walking distance, 10 steps to Monkey Resturant. Hotel is old but very clean. We arrive the city by train early morning 4:30a.m. Actually the hotel door is close, we ring the door bell and there is a staff come out open the door for us and gave us a room right the way. It is so good to have a quick nap before we go on for the sign seeing tour. Will stay the same hotel if I come back Salzburg.

The staff were very friendly and helpful as were the people in Salzburg. The location is excellent. The rooms were very dated, like dormitory decor, but clean and sufficient. Moved from a smoking room to a non smoking room (very easily). Woke up every morning to the sound of cathedral bells (not a complaint!)

Salzburg was very pleasant. Naturally everything in Europe is much more expensive than Australia. Austria is a very clean country and also very beautiful.

The hotel has a quaint charm to it and was very comfortable. Our triple room was huge overlooking the side street. Lighting was a bit dim but who wants to spend time indoors in a place like Salzburg! The staff at the hotel were very welcoming and also very helpful in guiding us to places to see and eat. Kids really enjoyed the old-world feel of the place... and the delicious breakfast spread ofcourse! Would definitely recommend it.

This is a lovely hotel located in a charming neighborhood. My sixteen year old son and I stayed here as part of a five week holiday in Europe. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom was a treat. The abundance of choices in the breakfast buffet was wonderful. I would highly recommend the restaurant. When we decided to stay an extra night they accomodated us without a change of room. I can't say enough about the service, food and staff friendliness. Will return here in future.

The only problem was that they (the city of salzburg i suppose)cleaned the streets and picked up garbage and such late at night or early in the morning every day whitch was disturbing.

i picked this hotel for my parents to celebrate 40 years married, they loved it, said staff were very friendly, rooms spacious and clean, bit noisy if windows opened. they are not lovers of heating and was a bit warm for them but it is winter after all. the staff were lovely, hotel restaurant was very nice indeed, breakfast was both cooked/continental and could not fault food or service. overall a very memorable holiday for them both, which i was thrilled to hear as i had booked this hotel.

We have just spent 4 days at this historic hotel and had a wonderful time. Our clean and well furnished L-shaped room (a triple) on the 4th floor overlooking the Christmas decorated street, was huge and had a king sized bed and a very comfortable full sized double sofabed which was made up for our daily use. There was loads of wardrobe space, a table, easy chairs and the most comfortable armchair ever to match the sofa. The bathroom was very large and modern with plenty of towels which were changed regularly. The room was lovely and warm and also had a TV, writing desk and an entrance hall with further storage. There was three double glazed windows which could be opened to look out onto the street below. The floors creaked a bit but as we were on the top floor we weren't bothered by it. The building seemed very solid so maybe it is well soundproofed. The bedrooms were modern but the rest of the hotel was in keeping with it's age and had some protected public rooms. We ate in one of the old restaurants on the first night and the meal was very good. Apart from one humourless receptionist (maybe she was having a bad day) the rest of the staff, including the other reception staff, were friendly and helpful. A nice touch was a free welcome drink for all guests. Breakfasts were great, plentiful and well presented in a pleasant restaurant. The best thing about this hotel is the location. It's in a narrow old lane (Linzergasse) close to the Mirabell gardens (Sound of Music), shops and restaurants, and just a few steps from the river and bridge across to the Cathedral, Mozart's birth place, one of the best shopping streets in Austria, the Christmas market and funicular railway to the fortress etc. Everything is within a 5-10 minute walk. The only small gripes are the lack of a printer to go with the somewhat old computer for internet access in the reception area, and tea and coffee making facilities in the bedrooms, which is perhaps not a continental thing.

We booked very short-term at a time when Salzburg is full of tourists (all 4 weekends before Xmas). That is why we paid a rather high fee for the hotel. Its location was wonderful - we could walk to all important sites. The room was ok, rather old-fashioned furniture, but a quite spacious bathroom. Nice gesture: they offered us a welcome drink.

Although a single occupant I was allocated a large double room on the quieter side of the building. As the rooms are not airconditioned with a window open overnight the early morning banging of the garbage collection is unavoidable. I was on holiday and the hotel had much information on tours, concerts, etc and were most helpful with a booking for a dinner/concert. The hotel is very conveniently located with a very short stroll to the river and the old town and to Mirabell Gardens, Mozart's House and other main attractions.

I think the facility is not 4 star but 3 star. There were no comfortable chairs to sit in to watch TV or to read. The TV had bad picture and seemed to be an old TV with minimal choice of channels to view. There was no clock radio in the room. The bolted/fixed safe in the room did not work,- but a portable safe was placed in the room. The breakfast provided was very good with much choice. The restaurant provided very good food also and was convenient. The hotel's location is central and easy to access old town within minutes.

I spent two nights here on my first visit to Salzburg recently, and was delighted with the hotel and location. It's across the river from the main "Old Town" but still in an "old" area itself, very charming and safe with nice shops and cafes right in the area, and just a few blocks from the Mirabell Gardens and the Mozart Wohnhaus museum. The hotel also has its own excellent restaurant where I ate dinner one night. The room was quite large, very clean, and included a hair dryer. Easy to get to from the train station via the #1 bus and then just a short walk, about two small blocks. I would definitely stay here again! There was only one problem: I could not get access to the internet in my room, which I thought the description had claimed, and I tried, to no avail, to connect wireless from the seating area near the elevator on my floor (which is what the staff told me to do) but it never did work. So if you're a business traveler, this might not be the best place if you have to have internet access -- otherwise you'll be forced to use the public terminal in the lobby.

a bit overpriced, because of the Festspiele. rooms basic, view poor, but location is excellent (just cross the bridge and you're in the center of old Salzburg) and the Gasthof is very good. they also offer you a welcome drink. car drivers with heavy luggage: do not hesitate to drive in the pedestrian area to unload! then the hotel will direct you to a nearish parking lot to park your car (mind you, this will cost an additional 13 euros per night, 15 if you forget to have your parking ticket stamped at the hotel). all in all it's a practical, relatively good-value choice if you're not staying for too long.

Hotel room neat & tidy but some of the window cracked which should be repaired. No air-con but it seems 95% hotel in Salzburg are without air-con. Restaurant down stairs and opposite are good. Breakfast are good. Hotel location is convenient to sight spots, bus & train station.

Location was perfect as it is located nearby major sightseeing locations. It was bit far away from the pubic parking which hotel has a deal with, but location of the parking was clearly explained by the reception upon check in. The restaurant was under renovation but I was not disturbed by any noise, etc.

After staying in a 3star hotel in vienna, this hotel was a bit dissapointing. However, the staff was very friendly and did everything to make our stay very pleasant. The room was spacious, but felt a bit could in interior. Also the bathroom could have been cleaned a bit better. It was still a pleasant stay an I would go back there any time.

The hotel is excellent value for money and the food, though limited, is excellently prepared and delivered. We cannot think of an area that might have an adverse comment. Although 600 yrs old, the hotel has all the modern facilities that you would expect. We will go again without doubt.

Ottimo servizio, camere confortevoli anche se non spaziosissime, buona la cucina del ristorante interno; forse, ma questo è 1 appunto da "Italiano", una maggiore predisposizione al sorriso del personale (comunque gentilissimo) non guasterebbe.

The hotel was lovely. The roon was very spacious and so was the bathroom. The breakfast was plentiful. It was within walking distance to the hotel. This hotel is very nice. The tour bus comes right to the hotel and drops you off back at the hotel which is very nice. The breakfast was ok. The rooms were very clean and big. Everything is in walking distance. The only complaint is the parking. You have to pay for the parking garage and walk to and from it. Overall this hotel is great and i am going back this year!

I reserved a room more than two months in advance. I emailed to confirm reservation the day prior to arrival but received no response. Upon our arrival, all we could hear were screaming children in the lobby. When I spoke to the desk clerk, all she could tell me in English was "Computer Problem" and go to "hotel down the street." She wrote down the address and we were sent to Hotel Stadtkrug a few doors down. I don't know exactly why we were bounced out of the Gablerbrau but we were delighted by the customer service at Stadtkrug instead.

This was the 3rd hotel I booked through Venere.com and by far the best. Very clean, well located. Bathroom was very large. The room was of good size for 3 people, clean. Competent employees, provided us with good advice on sightseeing. The restaurant at the base-level of the hotel was also very pleasant, in traditional style, and a good place to eat and drink beers. Excellent overall experience.

I have a weakness for hotels like the Gablerbraeu! Thank goodness they still exist in Germany and Austria. Older buildings with real character, excellent value. Clean, comfortable rooms, friendly staff. No hint of name-brand chain sameness. Who cares if the floors slope a little? Outstanding location on a pedestrian street on the Austrian side of Salzburg. Short walk to, but not part of, the self-conscious touristy Altstadt.Surrounded by good shopping and places to eat. Car access and parking are minor problems common to the rest of central Salzburg. If you demand on-site parking, stay in the suburbs. Me, I'll take places like the Gablerbraeu any day of the week.

A traditional style hotel in an excellant location for the old town and all the main sites. The pedestrian area just outside is great for local restuarants and bars, although the hotel food is very good anyway. The management were very helpful with information by email even before we arrived, and everything we asked for happened without any fuss.
