Le Castelet des Alpilles is very well located - within a short walking distance to the center of town. We were welcomed very graciously...but you get what you pay for...and the house is "tired" at best. There is nothing luxurious about this place - more like a basic boarding house. We got a room that didn't have air conditioning, but there was a standing fan in the room. All this said, we had a wonderful view of the countryside from our window. Would we return to this place? Probably not, unless we were really looking to save money.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It's a very short walk from downtown St. Remy and so ideal for visiting the town, as well as Les Antiques, Glennum, St. Paul de Mausole, etc. The hostess/manager was delightful and always helpful. Absolutely nothing bad to report. Be sure to spend a little extra and get an air conditioned room...

This hotel is perfectly situated! A short stroll into St. Remy and a great location for visiting near by villages and historical sites. Vineyards and olive groves near by. You can walk to Galun and the Asylum where VanGogh committed himself for a year. The hotel staff were so cheerful and welcoming and spoke English. We choose to have breakfast each morning in the breakfast room and it was a great relaxing way to start the day. Lots of choice and we particularly loved the fruit salad and the pot of coffee (very unusual in France) and the outdoor patio looked so welcoming. But unfortunately the weather didn't allow us to enjoy it. Our room was larger than we anticiapted and the view from our window over the tile roof tops out toward the Apilles was delightful. Free parking definitely a bonus.

We spent 3 nights at Castelet des Alpilles in mid-May. We found the hotel easily off the bus from Avignon, its' walkable with suitcases although uphill a couple of hundred metres. It's also easy to walk into the centre of St Remy for dinner, shopping etc, and you can walk from here to Glanum, the Roman historic site. The reception staff were always friendly and generally spoke English. Our room had a balcony with a view to the distant Alpilles which was nice to sit on in the evening. There is also a shady forecourt with chairs and tables etc, again a lovely place to relax.

The hotel is very nicely located at a few minutes from the historic centre of St. Remy, with an astonishing view of the Alpilles. The room was clean and satisfactory, but just a bit noisy because of the "old style" doors and keys. The interior garden was an ideal place for a relaxing stay. Breakfast is (as usual) a bit expensive, but in the surroundings there are many suparmarkets and boulangeries which can do the same job with much less money. Definitely an interesting solution when staying in St Remy.

The only complaint we have is that the towels need replacing badly. One of ours had a hole in it, and both were badly frayed.

Our stay at Castelet des Alpilles was enjoyable. The reservation desk staff were all friendly and efficient. Our room had a balcony overlooking the garden and was quite spacious including a small refrigerator and a desk. I found the bed to be low to the ground and not as comfortable as I would like. We did enjoy sitting on the balcony and in the garden when we weren't sightseeing. The breakfast buffet was substantial including baguette, croissants, various jams, yogurt, fruit, juices, ham and cheese, hard cooked eggs, coffee and tea, and was eaten on the terrace (or inside the breakfast room). We were able to do quite a lot of sightseeing within a short drive from the hotel in the surrounding area including: Chateau des Baux de Provence, the Grottes de Thouzon, Chateau de Romanin winery. Restaurants and shops are a short walk from the hotel. My only complaint, there was no elevator which meant that heavy luggage had to be carried up the stairs to our room. (This is typical, though, of many older hotels in France.) I would stay at this hotel again if we were to travel to St. Remy.

This hotel was nice and clean -- a very short walk into downtown St-Remy and Saint-Paul-de-Mausole (worth seeing if you are a Van Gogh fan)and Glanum. I forget what we paid for breakfast but I do not think it was worth it --better off getting croissants in town. Staff were friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel and location.

The staff there were really friendly and relaxed. My bag was stolen while in St Remy and they went out of their way to make phonecalls on our behalf (in french) and helped in every way they could. St Remy is wonderful, totally understated & chilled out and this hotel is a 5 min walk to main centre.

There is wonderful Van Gough trail in the town where you can see actual points where he created several (~15) of his paintings during last year of his life. Roman ruins of Glanum also worth seeing. Town itself is a landmark with slow lifestyle, etc. by itself. Also it is quite interesting to see Nostradamus birth place (born in 1503) and learn the fact that house still there iand people live there!!. Driving around Provence is an enjoyment. Car is a must. Otherwise you will miss a lot (sunflower and lavander fields, vineries, etc.). Hotel is great, old style building with wonderful staff and great views from the balcony. Rooms are large. Gated car parking is available as well as free WiFi if you have computer. One missing thing is an elevator (if you are on the top floor and have luggage), but hotel staff always offers to help.

Beautiful small hotel within walking distance to historic centre. Easy walk from bus stop. Less than 1 km. from Roman ruins. Lovely rooms overlooking Alpilles mountains. Good breakfast, but a little pricey. Only complaint is lack of electrical outlet in bathroom.

The hotel was perfect for us. A charming exterior, a warm welcome and located 5 minutes walk from the centre of St Remy - highly recommended as a base to tour Provence - very good restaurants, beautiful town, Roman ruins, Vincent and Nostradamus and equidistant to Baux/Gordes/Fountaine de Vaucluse and the Camargue.

We stayed 3 nights in June 2008 in a A/C twin room with a balcony overlooking the quiet garden and the distant Alpilles. It was marvelous! Separate toilet, which is handy. Bidet in the bathroom. Large room and bathroom. No elevator, so difficult if physically challenged. The staff are friendly and helpful with dinner recommendations and making reservations. There is available parking in a private lot just up a laneway. We generally walked to a patisserie for breakfast, but one morning had the hotel one (extra cost) and it was good, lots of selection. The hotel is close to all the major sites in St. Remy. St. Remy is a good base for the other Provence attractions as well. Close to the Marseille airport (a little over an hour). I highly recommend visiting Glanum (the Roman ruins a few minutes from the hotel by car). Aix en Provence is also not far and well worth a visit as it is a beautiful city/town. Other sites close by: Van Gogh visit at St. Paul Mausole. Les Baux en Provence (very nice perched village) Arles, Avignon, Gordes, etc.

Nice hotel in quiet location a short walk from town centre. We opted for room with balcony on top floor and view to the Alpilles, felt it was worth the extra cost to be able to sit outside and enjoy the evening sunshine. Room decor and bathrooom were fine. Public areas and corridors rather gloomy and unattractive. Breakfast seemed overpriced at 9.50 Euros so we went out to cafes about 5 minutes walk away. Secure parking provided at no charge. Hotel staff generally helpful and pleasant. Good choice of restaurants in St Remy. A touristy little town with lots of arty shops, not a great deal to see or do but makes a good base for touring around the area. Hotel is probably best suited for older people looking for a peaceful location. No lift so stairs not suitable for young children or disabled people. However there are some ground floor rooms.

We arrived at the hotel at 10:30 pm and we were greeted by a kind woman at the reception. The hotel is very charming and is a great value for the price you pay. Our room was clean, spacious, quiet, and had a lovely terrace. All the staff members were really nice to us. The location was excellent. We would definetly stay there again.

Room had nice view of Les Alpilles. Parking was shaded. A little older property, close to town, could use a pool as they had a space for it near the terrace. Family feeling with nice staff just needs some upgrades to make the price competitive with other places we stayed in Provence. Other hotels in St. Remy now look better by comparison.
