This is a nice hotel with an excellent location 2 min. walk from entrance to Vatican. Good buffet breakfast. But isolation between rooms inside could be better. Too much noise from rooms above and beside. Could hear everything from smalltalk to tv-sounds and people walking on the floor above.

The rooms were spacious and clean as well as the washrooms. We were pleased with the location and the staff was helpful and could communicate in several languages. We stayed only 2 nights but if we had more time we would have stayed at this hotel longer. This hotel is great value for the money and is well located to see the sights of Rome.

Situated perfectly for St Peters with easy access to public transport. Stayed with 3 teenagers an 8yr old along with my husband. We were not looking forward to trek to Airport but for less than would have cost us by public transport staff at reception organised a mini bus, just what was needed at end of hectic break!

We liked the hotel and the location, but not all the staff were friendly. Huge thanks though for calling our taxi driver on the way to the airport about our forgotten luggage! That was our bag with cameras with photos from the trip. Thanks again!

While it was wonderful being close to St. Peter's basilica, we were disappointed with the front desk staff (with the exception of one older gentleman who was helpful). The female clerk was rude and acted annoyed at all times. When asking for directions, they typically gave one word answers that were not helpful at all. Moreover, you had to pay for internet connection and it was a terrible connection! The room was spacious (we had a double room), but had a bad smell. We were in Rome for 4 nights, 5 days. One positive was the breakfast buffet was decent, included with the room, and the staff in there were friendly.

Read some mixed reviews for the Starhotels Michael Angelo. We have just spent 3 nights here with our three children(17,15,and11). Could not fault the hotel for service and quality. The rooms were fabulous(1 tripple and 1 double), the food in the restaurant was excellent and all the main areas spacious and spotlessly clean. Location was perfect for the Vatican but also to reach all the main areas on foot or by getting the bus. I would have no problem reccommending this hotel to anyone.

My friend and I stayed in Rome for 9 days and this was a perfect place to stay--a couple of blocks from the Vatican. It was a central point from which to tour the city either on foot or using public transportation.

We had a rate of 108 Euro per night here, which was very low so we felt the value was great. Everything was very solid about the hotel, air conditioning was strong, and the free breakfast was very good. I think it is a solid 3.5 star hotel, maybe a larger room/bathroom might swing me to agree that it was 4 stars. Great overall experience.

A decent hotel, in a rather quiet area very close to San Marco. Convenient location as we took the regional train from the airport and got in the Stazione San Marco in about 35 minutes, with a change in Trastevere. Outside the train station which is a 5 min. walk to the hotel there is the hub for buses 64 and 40(express) which lead you through Rome to Termini. The hotel itself is a bit old, however it is clean and decent.

Use the Shuttle service from and back to the airport . Very convinient and fair priced (20€p/p).Perhaps the hotel could already at booking recommend this transportation. We got the information at arrival in Rom airport. We stayed 4 days in Rom.

This was the second time we stayed at the Michaelangelo. We stayed here the second time because of the service we received the first time. This time we were in Rome for Christmas midnight mass, the location is perfect for visiting the Vatican. The airline lost our luggage and the staff was very helpful in trying to track it down for us.

I and my mother stayed at the Hotel Starhotels Michelangelo for 6 days. The location was great as we wanted to be near Vatican. We requested for a nice view of the Vatican but we were placed on the second floor facing the street. Our request thru email was not granted without any explanation at all (like there was no room for 2 with a good view of the Vatican). The hotel though is 5 minutes or so walk to the Vatican depending on your pace. There's a lot of places to eat in the vicinity and the reception had been helpful. Breakfast was okay but we had the same breakfast food everyday! Food was great the one time we had dinner at the hotel restaurant though albeit expensive. It would have been okay despite the price but in the midst of our meal an old man, who was probably the head waiter, approached and told us if it was okay to transfer to another table. They could just have waited for us to finish as it was apparent that we do not intend to linger in the restaurant. Anyways, it was enough for us to lose our appetite and we just hastily finished our dinner and left. For this reason I would not recommend the hotel's restaurant.

Excellent hotel in the vicinity of Vatican. Five minutes walk to St Peter's square. They provided us with the types of rooms required and the parking lot we asked for. One of the rooms had a balcony with a great view of St. Peter. Very professional staff, multilingual, helpful with maps, taxis and all. Nothing negative to say really, we enjoyed our stay at Rome and would definitely stay there again.

The hotel staff is not friendly and did not provided any help, and when they did the information was completely wrong which resulted in problems to my family to travel back to Brazil. This was our third time in Rome and I would never go back to this hotel. The pictures of the room do not represent the room that we got and the location of the hotel is far from the major atrractions. There are many other better hotels in Rome for the same price.

Great location near St. Peter's. Breakfast was plentiful. Service was great. Our only complaint was that the air conditioning did not work so it was very HOT, not only in our room, but also the whole hotel. A note on the elevator said a serviceman had been called.

Un hôtel idéal pour passer quelques jours à Rome. Juste derrière le Vatican, on est à 5 minutes à pied de la place St Pierre. Les chambres ainsi que le service sont d'un bon rapport qualité/prix et le personnel est très serviable.

With a little effort this could be a really good hotel. The reception desk was overstaffed and they could do with employing more maintenance staff since certain aspects of the room decor were in need of minor refurbishement and even where this had been carried out it had been done badly. For example paint repairs to wall bore little relation to original colour. I do not expect to arrive at a hotel and find the TV remote not working, a standard lamp not working. A grab handle in the shower loose. The restuarant was expensive the food very good but the dining room lacked any ambiance whatsoever. With more attention to this minor annoyances the hotel could be very good.

If you are looking for a decent priced four stars hotel in Vatican you want to check Starhotel Michelangelo. The room prices seem to be reasonable regarding the location - in the immediate vicinity of St Peter's Cathedral. We had a room in the first floor, unfortunately windows facing to the street. As one could expect the traffic noise was irritating so you better select upper floors and/ or rooms that have windows to the inner yard. The interior of the room we stayed in was pretty worn, clean though. Bathroom was clean and shiny but it could have been bit spacier. Minibar and a safety locker was included. A/C ok. The welcoming was not too warm even if it was reasonably polite. Otherwise the service was flawless and good and the porter service very polite and friendly. The breakfast served was really nice and had at minimum everything you would expect to see in a normal continental table. And it was tasty. I would absolutely rate it above the average 4 star European or American level, and this makes a real difference as we remeber this hotel is in Rome. Additionally, as the location was just a few hundred meters from the St Peter's, the overall price per quality rate makes this a very competitive alternative indeed.

We were on an 18 day cruise to the Mediterranean that ended in Rome. We extended our vacation by 3 days and stayed in Rome at the Michelangelo. Our stay at the Michelangelo was a perfect end of our wonderful trip. The hotel was in a perfect spot to access the Vatican and most other points of interest in Rome. We will be back and we look forward to staying at the Michelangelo again.

For a 4-star hotel at the price, I was surprised that they could not even provide an iron! The desk told me to refer to the laundry service and add 20%. Ridiculous! Only stay there if you are dying to be near the Vatican!

This hotel was a good value for the location. It is located right in the Vatican only a 5 minute walk to St. Peter's square. It is in a non-congested area and is fairly quiet compared to other areas in Rome. We had a balcony in our room facing the street and the Basilica was visible from the balcony. The only complaint would be that a few of the walls were quite dirty and marked up, but overall we thought the room was clean otherwise. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom was clean. The room was spacious enough for 2. The breakfast was probably close to the best we had in all of italy. The train station was only 1 block away for 1 euro all the way to Rome Termini station, which was much cheaper than a taxi!

we visited this hotel for our honeymoon, and were greatly disappointed. our room stunk of cigarettes and perfume, staff informed, we were told nothing could be done, room was not as nice as on pictures shown, walls very dirty and dinged up. hotel staff not very attentive. nightly price was changed at checkout. sort of far from anyother sites besides vatican. disliked so much we checked out early.

My stay in Rome was fabulous. I was initially booked into the PETRA hotel with you websight, but when I arrived I found the hotel in a very bad location and the room was 2 star at best. Very disappointed. It was nothing like the wed page and very badly situated. The staff there did help me use the internet to try and book another hotel, which was the Michelangelo star hotel. This was fantastic. Unfortunately the terms and conditions did not allow me to any money back, so I lost £301 sterling, which obviously upset me. I put this down to bad (or clever) advertising from the webpage it was on.

This is a very nice hotel at a decent price considering its proximity to the Vatican, which is within a 10-minute walk. The hotel is also very close to two bus stops that are within a 5-minute walk for quick, easy access. The hotel has several different tours that pick up directly in front of the hotel making sightseeing very convenient. The staff was friendly and eager to please. They treated us so well that we felt as if we were staying in a much more expensive hotel.

Very nice, clean room within a 5 minute walk of the Vatican. Lots of nearby snack bars with decent take out food and gelato. A very nice breakfast buffet. We had a nice balcony with a view of St. Peter's Basilica. Compared to other hotels we stayed at in Italy, this one was a good value for the quality and the location. Lots of Americans staying at the hotel, including some big tour groups.

Well placed for Vatican. Helpful staff. Good breakfast buffet and good service. A bit of a walk to nearest metro. However would not let this put you off. Several buses stop nearby. If taking taxi back to airport it is worth asking hotel staff to agree fixed price with driver on your behalf.

We only stayed in this hotel for one night, the last of our holiday. I had a hard time rating this hotel for the following reasons. Bell person, bartender, very helpful and friendly. Front desk always acted like they were busy doing something else rather than waiting on us. We were here with another couple and they felt the same as us. It seemed as though we were putting them out to help us. The room was fine. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast nice. Wasn't crazy about the location, took taxi cabs too much. This was our first trip to Rome and probably wouldn't come back to this hotel.

Great location for only the Vatican City, but pretty far off from other main attractions. There s a bus stop nearby if you don't mind waiting or use the bus. A supermarket is about 15 minutes walk and there is a local gracery store just beside the hotel for beverage and fruits.

Nice hotel with very good breakfast. Restaurant is very expensive and food is only okay. Not a lot of other restraurants real close. Location is excellent for the Vatican, but a bit removed from the rest of the sites. We walked everywhere and had no problem, but if you're not up to walking you can take the bus which stops nearby. All hotel personnel were very friendly and spoke good English. Room was nice but bathroom was a bit cramped.

Located less than 5 minutes walk from St Peters, Vatican Museum and Cistine Chapel etc and a simple 10 minute 1 Euro bus ride from Imperial Rome, Pantheon, Piazza Navarro etc. Hotel was good quality and good value at the B&B rate paid in advance, but additional food and drinks taken in the hotel were expensive. Assistance and advice provided by the front desk was excellent. Apart from St Peter's Square the immediate location around the hotel was not attractive for strolling.

we chose your hotel because of the location and the fact that you have a restaurant.I asked to reserve a table for a party of 10 of us for dinner on our first night at your hotel. The waiter on duty was extremely rude and said it was not possible. There were only 5 other tables occupied at the time so clearly the restaurant was not busy. We offered to put tables together ourselves only to be told that this was not possible. Two mornings later at breakfast 2 of our friends were still eating their breakfast when my husband and I sat near to them to have a conversation. We were told by the maitre de that the the dining room was not the place to chat but we should go to the lobby is this how you treat your guests? We complained to the reception about not being able to have dinner together in the restaurant because of the arrogant way in which we were treated. they apologised and said it should not have happened. It had been our intention for all 10 of us to eat in the hotel every evening. Instead we found a nice little restaurant nereby where we were made extremely welcome and we ate there every evening. The hotel and staff apart from the restaurant we found to be excellant. There is clearly a problem amongst the resataurant staff from the maitre de downwards. We would return to your hotel if the restaurant policy is altered. I would appreciate a response to my comments.

This was the first time we stayed at this 4-Star hotel. This 4-Star hotel would not be a 1-Star hotel in Las Vegas. The first room they gave us had a large rip in the carpet that was very obvious and hadn't been repaired. We called and demanded another room, which they took care of immediately. Breakfast was included and was very good; dinner on the other hand was extremely overpriced and poorly prepared. The hotel was close to St Peter's Basilica and the Vatican which was good. Two of the tours offered by this hotel picked us up at the hotel, and left us off after the tour SIX BLOCKS AWAY!!!! I definitely would not stay at this hotel again

This hotel had a great location for visiting the Vatican. There was a produce store a few doors down, a gelato parlor around the corner and several places to eat within two blocks. The rooms were very small but quite quaint. The breakfast was great and the dining room very sunny and friendly. It was easy to navigate to all the scenic spots by public bus, and an accommodating shuttle transported us to our cruise destination and back. I'd recommend this one.

Hotel is ideally located for visitors to the Vatican/St.Peters Square less than 5 minutes walking distance away. There were power cuts when we arrived meaning that lifts and the electricity within the room were "off". Power was restored later in the day without toom much "serious" disruption. Reception staff were excellent knowledgeable and helpful. Breakfast food, which was included in the room price, was fresh, plentiful and of good quality. Bar prices were expensive but perhaps what I would expect from a 4 star. Room needed redecoration/update. Overall more a 3 star than 4 star. Small Pizzeria "The Goose" 5 mins walk away provided better value for food/drinks in the evening good simple meals with a cosy, friendly atmosphere .

Maybe because the period of time we were there was very busy, the desk staff were quite curt and at times rude, especially one man who worked evenings. The room was nice and clean, but small. I know this is not unusual for rooms in Europe. I would definately stay there again due to the proximity to the Vatican and just ignore the rudeness of certain individuals. Too many fatty type foods at breakfast and the eggs were always cold. We enjoyed the waiter that sings and hums while working.

If you want an American hotel with an Italian flair, this is it. We were very pleased with this hotel. It is a short 5 minute walk from St. Peter's Square. The staff was wonderful. We had a wonderful stay in Rome. The hotel room was clean and quite spacious. The beds were extremely comfortable. The only thing is if you have a room at the front of the hotel be prepared for the refuse collection in the early hours of the morning. If you're a light sleeper it's guaranteed to wake you up. The breakfast was a buffet and was plentiful with a wide selction, on one morning we had breakfast delivered to our room and it was only an extra 10 euros which isn't too bad comapred to the prices in hotels in the UK The location of the hotel was fine and although it's out of the way a little it's only a twenty minute walk to Piazza Navona. Everything was within walking distance of the hotel and we only used the No.64 bus to travel to Termini with our luggage. The hotel is ideally situated for the Vatican but get there early (before 10:00) to beat the queues. I'd recommend this hotel to friends and would consider staying here again next time I visit Rome.

Hotel Michelangelo was perfect for our needs and deserves its four stars. I would certainly go back there! The only downside is that it is a little bit far from the center of the city; but really close to the Vatican. Best feature is proximity to St. Peter's (it really is 250 metres). Otherwise the area is average, but has some local restaurants. Hotel looks poor from outside; but inside is clean and rooms are spacious (for Italy). Rooms have good tv, DSL (& WiFi). Breakfast is poor! Staff are very nice.

We fund the hotel to be very satisfactory. It was very clean and had a very varied breakfast. Of course it's proximity to the vatican is excellent and the bus from just opposite the hotel is very convenient - it leaves every half an hour or so. The rooms were fully air conditioned and they upgraded us to a room with a balcony on request at no extra charge. This was the first hoel i was ever in that you were not able to iron in the room. They did offer a service but not very convenient and probably expensive. All in all a very good clean hotel which would be a good place to stay for anyone really. It just seemed to lack ambience that's all. For pilgrims to the vatican - excellent for anyone else there are probably more appropriate places.

the only glitch was that the hallway to get to our room on the first floor got really narrowed and was impossible to reach our room with the double stroller. we had to fold it. during our next visit we will request a room closer to the elevator before we have to enter the very narrow hallway. everything else was perfect.

Very good hotel in great location near the Vatican, 5 minute walk. Upon arrival our designated room had a/c problems,... the staff promptly attended to it,... and when the fix was going to take some time they moved us to a new upgraded room to make up for the inconvenience. Very attentive and professional staff.

Hotel was kept very clean and room, whilst not massive, was comfortable. The staff were all helpful but, as with most places, some were more so than others. We thought this hotel was the perfect base for our stay in Rome but I would only recommend it to those who are willing to do alot of walking or don't mind getting the bus. Surrounding area has a couple of places to eat very close to the hotel and more to choose from on the other side of St Peter's Square, however it isn't a long walk across the river where there are even more places to choose from. If you're going for more than a few days to Rome and fancy a few afternoon's relaxing there is a man made beach and swimming pool down by the river only a 10 min walk from the hotel. I would definitely return to this hotel if going to Rome in the future, walking through St. Peter's Square past the Vatican every morning was amazing.

We stayed here with our 18 month old son and I would definately recommend it. The staff were very accomodating to us and the room and bathroom were very clean and spacious. We had wanted to stay more towards the Spanish Steps, but this location turned out to be excellant - a short walk to the Vatican and buses to the other sights in Rome. We did choose to walk over to the other side of the river so we didn't miss anything along the way and it was really not that far to the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, etc. We would stay here again.

I have stayed at a couple hotels in Rome center (Hotel Farnese and Hotel Pantheon). I would choose this one. Location excellent- 5 minutes from Piazza San Pietro. Had single room for 150 Euro. Bathroom better than most. Bed better than most. Breakfast 7 out of 10, however wait staff notvery attentive at breakfast. I would stay again.

We had a great time in Rome but I have to say we had mixed feelings about this hotel. The staff were mostly fine, but the quality of the buffet breakfast left a lot to be desired. The self-serve scrambled eggs looked like they had been made with powder, while the bread basket was frequently filled with very stale bread - perhaps the uneaten bread of the previous morning's breakfast? I also used room service for fresh fruit salad and ice-cream and got what amounted to two very tiny bowls, one with a scoop of vanilla and chocolate in it, the other with what seemed to be tinned fruit salad, and warm at that, and not very much of it. And for this I paid around 15 Euros, plus a 'room service fee' plus a tip! I should have complained but I'm always a soft touch on holiday. We also ended up in a twin room, not the double we had booked some months previously. And I requested a top floor room with a view, and got a mid-floor room on the back of the hotel, where the view is of a high-rise block of flats directly across the road - no sign of St Peter's basilica there! But the staff were very good at ordering taxis for us, and most of them were pleasant - onr or two had that snooty air of superiority about them, but you get that wherever you go, so no real complaints. The room doors are big and heavy, and slam shut, so guests arriving late can disturb your sleep somewhat, but we were so tired trudging round Rome's many treasures in 40-degree heat that this didn't bother us unduly. All in all, we loved Rome so much that we shrugged off some of the little inconsistencies at this hotel - other guests may stay here and be very annoyed about some of these things. However it's in a great location - it's literally a five-minute stroll into St Peter's square and you can't argue with that, can you?

We had a brillant stay here in June. We had 13 rooms booked and everyone of us could not fault the hotel. I had seen some other reviews on various web site and was a bit nervous with what to expect but this is definely a 4 star hotel. We would all stay here again and you couldn't possibly get anywhere a close to the vatican. Overall a brillant hotel with great detail but on room cleaniness and customers.

We visited the hotel with friends from Canada the rooms were excellent, Breakfast was very good, night time meal not so good so ate out a lot. Only complaint could be the fact that the waiters could be bit "stroppy"

We were very pleased with the hotel, its facilities and staff. The location is convenient for walking into the city but walking through the tunnel is not recommended - take a bus. The only negative was the poor quality coffee supplied for breakfast.

Great hotel. After a long trip throughout Rome and Tuscany, a much enjoyed night stay at this hotel. American-style hotels, plenty of room, very friendly staff. I'd give this place perfect ratings if the night guy wasn't a jerk. The daytime staff members were excellent, especially Alessandro, who was extremely helpful. Highly recommended.

Hotel in great location next to St.Peters but only 4 or 5 cafe/bars near hotel for night meal. The other main tourist attractions are found over the river but we found out the no. 64 bus stops outside hotel and takes you over Tiber to bus station (termini) where there are plenty bars/cafes and also access to Trevi Fountain/Colosseum/Forum etc.Tickets for the bus at hotel only 1 euro each way so cheaper than taxi and bus ran approx every 15 mins and stopped at convenient stops along the way.

Location right outside the Vatican and with a good pair of walking shoes you can reach a good number of the sites in Rome. i.e. 30 minute walk to Forum was longest walk. 15 minute walk to excellent places to eat. Had a view of St. Peter's from our balcony. Staff was very helpful and the complimentary breakfast was a great way to start the day.

Visited Star Michelangelo on 26th April 2005 and had the perfect break. Location of hotel is excellent - just outside Vatican City walls - with regular bus service nearby. Hotel is spotless with good and varied buffet breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. Would definately return and recommend to others.
