Lovely hotel. Received a warm welcome and the staff were very attentive. Spacious bathroom with shower and the room had all the basic necessities. It was very quiet. I chose the hotel as it is very close to the station which it is, about 7min walk. Would definitely return.

Location of this hotel is very convenient, close to Termini station and within walking distance to all major tourist attractions. It is a perfect choice for those who are looking for nice, clean, comfortable place to stay. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was not very spacious, but that is nothing exceptional in Rome. Generally, I would definitely stay here again.

December 2011 - We booked Hotel Serena at the last-minute and were very pleasantly surprised. The location was very convenient and the staff was very helpful. Room was small, but not surprising for a city like Rome. Just understand you won't have much "elbow room" if you decide to stay here. We found this hotel extremely clean, welcoming, modern and would definitely stay here again. There is a spacious elevator (by European standards). We stayed on the 5th floor. Enjoy Rome - it's so unique, you won't be spending much time in your hotel room regardless. Buon viaggio!

Very pleasant surprise; super close to the Termini station (2 blocks); several decent places to eat, just outside the door! Breakfast does not start until 0730, which makes it tough to eat and make it to the airport if you have a morning flight.

Good location if you prefer to stay close to the train station. For me,this is the ideal option as I only stay for 1 night before traveling by train to Sorrento. Just a 5 mins walk from train station with the lugguage. The room is small but sufficient and clean. Good value for money.

The hotel was conveniently located near the train station and within walking distance to all the major sights. The room was the smallest I had throughout my entire time in Italy (I think the bathroom was bigger than the bedroom) but if you are only using it as a base to sleep it is fine. On the plus side I had a room facing away from the street and it was very quiet. Also the restuarant directly across the road was great - it was one of the better meals I had in Rome. If you are after a basic room in a great location I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Some floors of an apartment building converted into a hotel. Tinny rooms, expect smell in the room and usual train station surroundings. Nothing close to 3 stars... Good for a single weekend run. May ruin a romantic evening once back to the hotel.

Single room 5 days, July 2009. Great place for the money! Near Termini and Via Cavour, which is great for exploring the city. Two streets down from the church of Maria Maggiore. Nice restaurants and pizza places around. Some small supermarkets and fruit stands. Otherwise the area is not the best to walk around at night due to train station, but had no problems. The rooms are lovely but a bit too small, bathrooms new and well equipped, AC, TV, mini fridge, nice breakfast. Will definitely return on my next stay in Rome!!!

We were on a 4-day family trip to Rome. The hotel Serena is located in an old building on the second and third floor in a quiet street close to Termini. From Termini there are good bus and metro connections to all parts of Rome. Otherwise, the centrum of Rome is just 30 min walking away from the hotel. The hotel lived up to our expectations in all respects. Personnel was very friendly and helpfull and they were all good at speaking english. The rooms were very recently renovated, very clean and well maintained, although a little small. However, the size of the room was not an issue for us, as we were spending most of our time exploring Rome. The breakfast buffet consisted of several varieties of buns (white and rye), breakfast cerials, yoghurt, cheese and ham slices, marmelade, honney and sweet rolls, fruit, juice (from syrup) and a choice of hot beverages. All very nice and tasty. We can highly recommend Serena to anyone looking for a good value hotel for a city trip to Rome.

The service was excellent, every day fresh towels, large breakfast, staff very friendly and helpful. However, we had to sleep with the window closed because of the noise (end-October certainly no problem). The rooms fulfil their purpose, enough place for placing the personal affairs.

The hotel is much better than I expected after visited in Paris. The home is like new renovated. The breakfast is good, you can order each type of coffee - like espresso/ cafe latte for free. Since the hotel is nearby train terminal. Good - it is very convenience - you can hop on to the bus back to terminal and hotel. Bad - because of train terminal, it has a variety of people - beware of pickpocket in the terminal and nearby location. Overall, I will revisit back to the hotel.

Close to train station so it made it easy to get around. Initially directions on website were not correct but still easily found. Location at night wasn't the greatest so I tried to be in early, also not well lite at night. Shower current about a foot too short which meant water all over the bath room. Hotel made reservations with my Amex but at check out they would not accept Amex, it's a good thing I had a Visa otherwise I don't know how I would have paid my bill. Hotel is a little old from lobby & elevator but room looks like it has been recently renovated. OK for a couple of nights.

As a single female this area intitially looks a bit rough. However, it turned out to be pretty safe and my stay was uneventful and free from molestation. If you are on a budget the selfservice cafes in the station provide the best value in Rome - a beer and a pasta for under 7 euros. The location was excelent for all transport links and the opentop tour buses also left from the square. The hotel has recently been refrubished and my single room was small but adequate with a lovely bathroom. Breakfast was good and I felt perfectly safe in the hotel. I would go back there.

The receptionist, Marco, was very helpful and friendly with directions and suggestions for restaurants. He tried teaching simple Italian phrases to make my visit to Rome more enjoyable. The room was small by US standards but adequate. The single beds are narrower than twin-size beds. The hair dryer didn't produce much heat compared to the volume of noise it made. We needed to open the window to cool down the room since our stay was before the beginning of the summer season when the a/c would be turned on. With the window closed, all outside noises were blocked. The cold breakfast buffet of pastries, breads, cereal, yogurt, fruit, coldcuts, and cheeses was quite sufficient to get us started for the day. They had an expresso maker besides the regular coffee machine.

This is a beautiful hotel, recently remodeled. It was the cheapest hotel we could find and turned out to be the nicest hotel out of the 3 we ended up staying in during our visit. The front desk was so nice to us. The breakfast was in a beautiful little area and offered quite a variety for a free breakfast. It is right next to the termini and subway station. This area is cheaper than the other side of the termini because this was not supposed to be as nice an area. However, we stayed on the other side for 2 nights at a terrible hotel for twice the price and it was NOT nicer. This area was cleaner, safer and better shops and restaurants.

I think it has recently been refurbished as the rooms were excellent, almost brand new, spacious enough and breakfast was good. Location is abit out of the main area in Rome but only a 6 euro taxi ride away. The room was abit noisey but thats because it was facing the street. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The Termini is very near and convenient. No problems at all there is a mini market next door and quite a few restaurants and coffe shops around. I would stay again without reservation. The adjoining hotel was being renovated and a little noisy as a result but only after 8am. Positive: Good location, close to Termini station and subway; Freshly refurbished, clean; Reasonable breakfast; Friendly staff; Relatively cheap (on Rome scale).

I stayed there 1 weekend with my girlfriend. The hotel was quite good, clean, quiet, we didn't need more. The breakfast buffet was rather restricted, but enough, and the brioches (or croissants, or corneti) were fresh and quite excellent. The location is not very high class, but it's right next to the termini, which is very convenient, and we never felt threatened. The stuff at the reception speak good english...

We found the hotel ok for the price. The staff is VERY friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very generous, rolls, pastries, meat, cheese etc. We found a lot of small ants through our room which was kind of gross. THe hotel in general needs a big update - it feels very old. They tried hard though to please. The neighborhood is only seedy if you are between the train station and the hotel - the blocks in the opposite direction are fine, and it is only seedy at night. In general we found the location great and the hotel Ok. We would probalby find something a little nicer next time.

Good hotel in convenient surroundings two blocks back from Termini. Minimarket next door and plenty of restaurants nearby. Quiet room, not over large but very clean with excellent bathroom. Air conditioning faulty in our first room but we were moved the second day. Breakfast good for Italy (fruit juices, cereals, yoghurt, 'ham', cheese, rolls, various delicious pastries). Breakfast room small. No bar although advertised. No problem with paying with credit card. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely stay there again. Stayed 6 nights this time.

Cosy room with wood panelling, antique-like furniture and VERY quiet. Central, efficient airconditioning which can be regulated individually. Breakfast buffet with sausage, cheese and yoghurt. 5 minutes walk to Central Station (Termini). Bathroom needs some renovation. All in all a very good price/quality relationship!

An outstanding hotel - Serena lies within a minute or two from the train station and comfortable walking distance from most of Rome's leading attractions. The breakfast was decent, the room nice even if a bit small, and the bathroom perfect, including a modern shower and everything else I would consider necessary. Good value, but at night some of the streets to the north of the hotel can be a bit dodgy, though they are as far as I am aware quite safe.

My husband and I are teachers and were in Europe meeting with our college age children who were studying abroad. One of our children is hispanic and both of them were staying at the youth hostel. After we checked in and surrendered our passports, we went out to find our children and have lunch. When we returned to the room, the clerk at the counter would not let our adult children enter the building. Even after I explained that they had a room at another facility (thinking perhaps he thought they were sneaking into our room?). He continued to refuse to allow them to come up to the room where we had planned to have a glass of wine together and visit. We travelled all over Italy with these young adults and never were refused admission to our rooms with them. The clerk seemed to be especially concerned about our Hispanic "guest". I would have left this otherwise nice facility if he did not still have hold of our passports. This was a singularly racist event in an otherwise delightful tour of Italy.

The hotel located - as many in this part of Rome - on two floors of a huge apartment house. A minuscule single room, a bit dark since the only window was small as well and faced the courtyard - but that's the price you have to pay for being free from street noise. In fact the room was so well insulated against the external noise that I could hear a quiet conversation of my well-behaving American neighbours. The bathroom spotlessly clean, air-conditioning working very well, which is a relief during the hot Roman summer. Good breakfast buffet, which is important especially for those who haven't got used to Italian-style breakfast consisting mostly of coffee. A TV with CNN and MTV plus a generous offering of Italian channels. Friendly staff, you can store the luggage free of charge in the meantime between the check-out and the departure of your train/plane. The neighbourhood slightly seedy (as the case usually is with districts near railway stations) but I don't have any bad experiences. Overall I would recommend this hotel to people who like me have very little time (I was in Rome just 24 hours) and can't afford to waste this time on commuting. During longer stays the darkish room (with a very conspicuous hole in the net curtain) might prove just a bit depressive. If the central location and the proximity to the railway station are your priorities, then Serena provides a safe and clean option.

Hotel was within walking distance of many sites which was a plus. Only problem were the directions to the hotel- they said to go right onto the street where the hotel is located but it actually was left.

Good located because of connection to all railways and busses... We stayed 10 days. The aircondition did not work for one hour (more than 30+ Celsius in the night) and, this was simply terrible, an permanent really strong smell of the halal food kitchen in the first floor of the neighbor building. We changed room and floor, but this didn´t help at all because all the rooms have windows only to the kitchen area). Of course near the station it´s noisy all night, but this was part of the calculation. Though, good place for starting "per pedes apostolorum" to most og the important sites. Not cheap.

First off, the staff is amongst the friendliest I have experienced in Europe... and with my job, I have the chance to experience many hotels. I was in a single room which was just big enough. If you are not planning on spending much time in your room, then I think this hotel offers great value for what you pay. It is close to major attractions if you wish to walk. If not, the train/bus station is right around the corner. Also, many nice restaurants ans cafes in the area.

Rooms were quite clean but small, perfect for a single traveller. The bathrooms were a good size and the room was cleaned everyday. Location is great, next to the Termini...meaning close to the Metro too. I enjoyed my stay there and would probably go back next time I'm in Rome. Good quality for the price.

Directions from Termini were incorrect. Once we found the hotel, though, all went well. The room was not ready but we were allowed to place our bags in the room and hit the town. Ate lunch right across the street. Walked or rode the metro all over Rome. The hotel location was perfect for us and the staff was very helpful. Typical small rooms-nothing too fancy, but comfortable.

The hotel is in a central position, easy reach from/to airport, one minute from central station and walking distance from main attractions. The stuff are very kind and helpful. Relatively big breakfast (not only the usual cornetto e cappuccino). The room was very small but very convenient. Recommended for people who spend the day at work or going around town.

If you need to be near the train station and won’t be staying for long, this hotel will suffice. It’s a quick two blocks west of Rome Termini, on the second floor (with an elevator) of an older building in a relatively gritty neighborhood. The room was tiny but clean and fully equipped with refrigerator, safe and satellite TV. The bathroom was larger than many others, with white mosaic tiles, shower, bidet and hairdryer. Hotel staff were cordial and helpful, and there were several internet points within one block. Breakfast was about average, with salami, cheese, croissants and coffee from a machine. It’s hard to find reasonably-priced rooms in Rome, and we thought 140 euros a night was still high for what we got, but we didn’t have any real complaints about the hotel. (However, you could smell Chinese food cooking nearby.) We would recommend Hotel Serena only if you needed an inexpensive place near the train station to sleep for a night or two.

A real gem only a few blocks from Termini. Very pleasant manager at desk - very helpful. Only negative was some noise from other guests in corridors at night (doors don't keep out noise very well.) We booked same hotel for a later visit to Rome. We will always check for vacancy at Serena when we are visiting Roma!

It is very close to Termini station (just 2 blocks away) so it's a very convenient place to stay. The room is very small but good enough for just sleeping (bed is quite big). The bath was clean and towels were changed daily. On the negative side, the hairdryer was broken and the breakfast was the same everyday (and not too many things to choose from)

The hotel is located very close to the Termini Train Station, so you only need to walk just 2 blocks with your luggage, no taxi or public transport is necessary. The area is full of traffic since most of the people who arrive in Rome, arrive by bus from Ciampino Airport, or by train, with Leonardo Express, from Fiumicino Airport, like we deed. Also very close to the Metro Station and lots of cheap places to eat around. The room was a bit cold when we arrived, but the heat was turned on in the evening. The bathroom was quite spacious, even though the shower cabin was very small, which is quite common in most of the hotels from Rome. The TV channels were mixed up… we didn’t bother to fix it since we didn’t go to Rome to watch TV. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was just great! Exactly what we needed before going sightseeing in Rome. The overall experience was great! We would definitely return to this hotel!

This was a functional hotel near the main station - not inspiration for poetry, but fit for purpose. I have nothing against the hotel, but next time would choose a different part of Rome to stay in; being so near the point of arrival and departure made you feel very transient.

Neighborhood kind of "seedy" but okay if you do not stay out too late. Rooms on 2nd floor noisy, especially when they are preparing breakfast. Single room very small and not big enough for more than 1 person, but overall clean and a great location for seeing the sights. With so many hotels in this area, if I return to Rome, I would explore other possibilities.
