It is a bit expensive for a single room although it might be because they have mostly double/twin bedded rooms and I was given one of those even though i requested for just one bed. The location is good as it is close to the Metro station which is only 15-20 mins from Roma Termini. It is also close to Rome Tre (the University) and could be accessed there by walk.

The Pension had been splendid, minor flaw though, the internet as advertised on venere was not provided, you had to go with your laptop the the reception and go there via LAN into the Internet, but on the other had it was then for free, so in total a great pension with a real good connection to all point of interests in rome

Got a room for 5 people (3 kids) at 90 euro, breakfast included - not a bad deal for the high season. Room was clean and quiet. The hotel is close to the subway station, and right across from the Basilica San Paolo (see pictures). First 2 floors seem to be a hospital, but I didn't really see anybody there. The breakfast buffet was good, and people were friendly. Our plane was 8 hours late, so we arrived after midhight, but there was somebody there to welcome us (had faxed in advance).
Italy, Jul 2008
not suitable for summer, no air conditioning, very hot in the room especially on the 4th floor. you cannot leave the window open as it gives a free access to a common balcony so you can get robbed or "visited" unexpectedly during the night

a little bit old fashioned, above all the bathroom and its plumbing... The image of the pope at the main entrance was a little bit surprising! It is not ok for a quiet vacation as it is often used by big scholar groups for their vacations in Rome. Excellent price if you just need a place to sleep.

The single room was fine with good en suite. Double-glazing made it very quiet. Breakfast was good. The metro stop is Basilica San Paolo, only 6 stops from Termini station on the B line ( 1 Euro = single trip, 4 Euros = day card ). At tube station leave from the left-hand exit marked Basilica. Hotel is 100 or so yards further straight on, and NOT on Viale F. Baldini, as per the website.( I suspect that's the holding company's address.) If you want a quiet and cheap evening meal, and you're tired of central Rome, try one of the local restaurants. We recommend the Tavola Calda Rosticceria at 114/120 Via G. Chiabrera ( a side street to the right of the metro station ). They sell meals to go by weight or they'll microwave for you to eat in the restaurant or outside. We had a good meal and a large beer for less than 10 Euros each. For afters there are plenty of Gelateria nearby.

We arrived here late at night after a flight. I was quite shocked when the taxi dropped us outside the building. It looked more like an office block than anything else. We found the lift and tried all the floors before discovering it was on the top floor. We were very worried at this stage as the place seemed dodgy. We met the receptionist and he didn't uttter a single word apart from giving us the key. There was a lot of noise along the corridor and I was afraid there was drug addicts and all sorts staying around us. If this was a 2* I would have hated to see a 1*. The location was a bit remote also and out of the city centre. We survived the night and somehow slept. The toilet left a lot to be desired. When we went down for breakfast I was surprised to see ordinary people like ourselves and business men there. I must have imagined the madness that seemed to be going on in the night! All in all I wouldn't recommend staying here as at €90 a night it was poor value and I was worried for our safety. We were only staying here one night as we were travelling to another part of Italy the next day. Otherwise I would have been very depressed. Not a hotel to be recommened if you could even call it that. The only good point was that the breakfast was adequate.

Very friendly and flexible reception which made extra effort to arrange us a room a day earlier than booked. Peaceful, close to underground station, plenty of free parking places in the front. The area closeby didn't seem to be very interesting and lacked restaurants etc. Price/quality ratio was good.

Very welcoming staff, speaking several languages. Quiet hotel in a very quiet neighbourhood. I recommend this hotel and will choose this one if i come back someday. Only 1 problem : the map in the website is not correct (i lost much time to find the hotel). My stay in Roma : I could practice my italian, i speak much better thanks to italian people. Italian people are very kind, lovely, welcoming and always help you when you need information. I recommend Roma to people who like discovering new beautiful places and meeting nice and simpathetic people.

Well described here. Just like to add that rooms are definetly roomy but noisy, so bring your earplugs if you're planning to sleep in. Also, building is a little hard to find since it's located at 3rd and 4th floor of an office building. Walking distance to San Paolo Church andf VERY close to Metro station. Most of front desk clerks DO NOT SPEAK any english, so be ready to use your italian. I would recommend for someone who's traveling on a budget. Overall it's not a bad hotel.

A clean and comfortable, but "plain Jane" accomodation. It is a long way from any of the sights, except the Bascilica di San Paolo. It took a 30 Euro taxi ride to get there from the train station.

Meals a problem. Lunch is served on site and attracts a lot of nearby workers because it is good food and good value. But very few places to eat at, in the vicinity at night. Place is in a church office complex, and being located near the basilica is ideal for Catholic individuals & groups. Others may want more glamorous facilities. Need to be able to make yourself understood in Italian.

Ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo. Ambiente familiare. Stanze spaziose e ben tenute. Prima colazione molto buona.

This is more like a hostel than a hotel, and seems to share the building with other organisations. It is about a block straight ahead when you exit St Paul Basillica Metro station, but not well advertised. Our shower head was broken. I felt unsafe to leave the window open as there was a balcony right round our side of the building. We didn't eat there so can't comment on the restaurant - only stayed - it was OK and staff were busy but helpful.

I was very disappointed in this hotel. We checked in and had to wait for the guy to quit talking on his personnal cell phone (5 min) and then we were given rooms that where in completely different hallways. The lights weren't on in the hallways. The hotel is not close to anything and easy to get lost. Guy at the counter gave directions like oh its just right down the street not far. (15 minute walk at least.) There are no resturants around and the hotel didn't serve dinner. It took 20 minutes to get someones attention so we could check out. I don't recommend this hotel to any. It is a 20 min metro just to get anywhere. Not worth it

If you don't really like cities, except from the famous monuments, you should not stay here. Only one monument, the cathedral of San Paolo, is nearby. However, if you want to be in a lively, albeit noisy, neighbourhood for a reasonable price, the Pensionato San Paolo is a good choise. They should provide a better breakfast, though.

Compared to hotels in Spain this was expensive but for a big city OK. You basically got what you paid for. It was more like staying in a university hostel rather than a hotel. The room was cleaned everyday but the towels were thin cloths more like tea-towels for wiping dishes. The breakfast was basic but the rolls were fresh. The lady who served at breakfast was very nice. There was a metro nearby but the area was lacking in bars which stayed open in the evening and we only found one good restaurant nearby.

The Pensionato was very hard to find. It's on the 3rd floor of a non-descript apartment building, all of whose external windows were shuttered. The pensionato's sign was all but covered up by the branches of a tree on the sidewalk. Also, there was no air conditioning and the room was stifling hot. Even when the outdoor temperature was mild, the room was like an oven. Other than that, it is close to the metro and right on the bus line. I'd stay there again but only if they add air conditioning to the rooms.

All in all, the Pensionato San Paolo was a good buy. The major criticism that I have is the location of the property as shown on the Venere website--the map shows the Pensionato San Paolo as much closer to the Pyramide than it actually is.

Pensionato San Paolo is located in a working-class suburb of Rome with a very good connection to the centre (subway every 5 minutes). There are a few nice and cheap shops and restaurants nearby. Refering to US-standards, the bath-rooms were a little bit dirty, but that is normal in Southern Europe.

ok here you get what ya pay for. we wanted a hotel somewhat closer to fco. we stayed here for only one night the last night of our 14 day trip in italy. the staff was not too helpful, the rooms are extremely hot- no air conditioning (the whole hotel is on the fourth floor of a building), not even a fan. There is a huge balcony surrounding the windows, almost like a roof area, where people can walk around- felt very unsafe. Thank goodness we stayed here only one night. the rooms were just plain filthy, felt unsafe. the area of the hotel is not so great either. personally, it sufficed for one night, but would not return here again

Best vaulue for money in Rome. Away from the center, but very close to the subway, so it is easy to get around. Only 2 problems were the subway closed at 9:00pm and had to take a bus home and the directions to find the hotel were very poor. No one(even close by) knew the hotel was there. Go to Basillica station on the blue line and its 100 meters away. Very friendly staff.

The property was advertised as being near Pyraminde which it was not and we were not advised by staff about the 2.00am door closing policy and as such found ourselves locked out for an entire night. (we did later discover a small sign about the reception counter to this effect but feel it should have been clearly pointed out) Furthermore the breakfast was shocking with rolls being passed to us from other tables that had finished their meal and cold coffee. I would have preferred to pay a bit extra for the location I required and to have avoided being locked out.
