The hotel public areas were quite nice and it was very close to the Termini train station. The room was very small and its location in the hotel let a lot to be desired as I had to go up to the fourth floor of the hotel with the lift and then I had to take my luggage and go down the stairs to the third floor because my room was in a 'new' part of the hotel. The toilet looked clean but it emitted a very nasty smell all the time. The fridge had food residues from previous guests that made a bad smell.

Located in a quiet area and yet fairly close to a metro station. The room (quad room) was very small and we had a hard time finding sufficient space for all our luggage. Free internet access was great. Breakfast was good. Front desk was helpful in arranging for taxis when needed as well as tours.

Our favourite hotel near Termini was booked for the one night stay we needed in Rome, we had to look for a Plan B. We looked for a highly rated hotel at less than 150 Euros for the night – unfortunately, this appears to be an impossible task, so we happy when the Hotel Montecarlo delivered a solid 3 star experience for our 174 Euros. We had a clean, comfortable "superior" room overlooking via Palestro. The large double bed and spare single bed allowed room to spread out. The breakfast was agreeable, with a choice of cereals, pastries, yoghurt etc. Quite sufficient to start the day. In short, this hotel is worthy of your consideration if you would like to stay close to Roma Termini.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Montecarlo hotel. Everything has been exactly like it was described here at Venere.Com, so our surprise was only how perfectly it matched. The staff was very friendly and helpful in all aspects, not only regarding hotel-specific questions (also recommendations on where to get what, which public transport to recommend to get to X, and more). At the one day we had an excursion, and thus had to leave before breakfast time, they immediately offered coffee/capuccino and croissants - with excuses that they cannot serve a complete breakfast so early. So: All top! Only the bathroom was a bit small. But, hey: If you are in Rome, you are not staying all day long in the hotel. As for us, we just came here to sleep, so it was very OK. The price - now, I guess, in a city like Rome and especially its central area, you have to accept this...

My wife and I stayed here two nights in January after staying two nights in another hotel (prearranged through an agency). We liked this hotel much better. There was a jacuzzi shower, which my wife absolutely loved. The bathroom was well-appointed and roomy. Everything was very clean, nicely decorated, with quality linens and furnishings. You could hear people in other rooms from time to time, but it wasn't too bothersome. Breakfast wasn't as nice as we found at other hotels in Italy; especially the coffee was from a machine and not at all satisfying. For good espresso, there are some bars about two blocks away to the west that are cheaper and better quality than in the hotel lobby. The bed was a bit stiff, but this was true throughout our stay in Italy, so it could be the style. The hotel is a bit further away from the major sights, but it's near the main train/subway station and a secondary subway station as well. The area is very secure, being near embassies and up-scale offices. Overall, it is a nice place and an excellent deal for the price.

we had 16 people staying at the hotel and we couldnt have asked for a better place for the price. The staff especially Franco the night front desk clerk was the best!! The breakfast was ok with cereal and pastries the rooms was more than we expected, We reserved the superior rooms and most of them came with tubs. They even made reservations for us to take tours right from the hotel. We stayed there before we went on a cruise and they made all the transportation reservations to and from the airport and to the ship and back. We all agree that we would definetly stay there again.

We stayed in Rome for 4 nights and found the monte carlo just as described in website. Excellent location, very easy to get around Rome on foot (without the need even for a metro!)Staff friendly, breakfast the same as all over Italy. Room clean and welcoming. We were simply looking for somewhere close to tourist areas (colisseum, pantheon etc etc), and somewhere to put our heads down at the end of the long day of touring. This is exactly what we got at the monte carlo. Funnily enough the it was the bar that actually swung it for us in the end, which we never actually used!!

My husband and I were on our first trip to Rome, and had a fantastic stay at the Monte Carlo. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Nice, clean rooms (though not particularly big). Very helpful staff. The hotel fully lived up to our expectations. But use the bus going back and forth to the tourist attractions! It took us a little to find out that instead of walking to the Termini or to the nearest metro station from the hotel, it is much easier taking a bus nearby. And by the way - the breakfast is an excellent Italian one, and there is plenty of it (in contrary to what some of the reviews said)

My husband and I traveled in the middle of October 2005 to this hotel. Nice hotel, small rooms, but they are all smallish in Rome. Location is closer to the train station, we felt safe no issues. The hotel offers parking in a private garage nearby, however we arrived on a Sunday when EVERYTHING is closed - we drove around trying to find public parking and ended up parking at the train station - which is where most guide books tell you not to park. The car was fine but it can be a little dicey seeing many homeless people camping out in the parking lot. The front desk recommends people to restaurants that are CLEARLY tourist traps even though they insist they go there themselves. Do a little research if you want an authentic place. The breakfast every morning was great with plenty of seating. Bathrooms are tiny with a shower stall. We would stay here again for price and location.

I thought this hotel was fairly good value for money and enjoyed my stay. It is reasonably conveniently located relative to Rome Termini. Our double room was spacious for the price. We enjoyed the large mural on the wall (not shown in photos). The staff were quite ok, though not outstanding. My wife had a cold shower and the shower tended to wet the bathroom floor quite a bit. Breakfast was just satisfactory. Allround, nothing outstanding, but not bad either and pretty reasonable value.

This hotel is in a great location near to the train station and easily accessible to all tourist attractions in rome on foot. Staff are very friendly, (especially Franco) and are willing to help you with any arrangements. The hotel is good value for money and rooms are immaculate. The breakfast is substandard, very basic by european standards and you may need to visit the grocery store around the corner. (which is very convenient). Try the restaurant across the street for an excellent and authentic italian meal (not the hotel recommendations as they are geared for tourists). Overall, we had an excellent visit at Hotel Montecarlo, definitely recommend it and would stay there again when we return to Rome!

The hotel came well recommended on this site and we were not dissappointed. I looked at many hotels and this seemed good value for a 3 star hotel in the heart of Rome - walking distance to many sites. Staff were efficient and helpful. Rooms were clean and quiet. Taxis for our family of 4 proved a pretty cost efficient, quick and easy way of getting around the city and still seeing the sites en route.

The location of the hotel is also very good (10mn by foot from Termini where you can find a lot of buses, trains and metro). The surroundings of the hotel are quiet but not so much restaurants. In the hotel "Montecarlo" you can really enjoy your stay in Rome, ours was very nice (7 nights between February and March). We had a very nice, new renovated (very good taste and with high quality products), quiet room. Not very big but very comfortable. The bath also hab been new renovated. For big people, the shower may be a problem, but our experience says, in Italy this is everywhere a problem. The staff was nice and very friendly. They gave us information when needed and attended all our requests. Thanks again. Also thanks to "Venere" , it did helped to read all the informations on the homepage in order to make a good choice.

This Hotel was a good 15 minute walk from the main station, a little further than we expected but once we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with the overall quality and presentation. Our room was very comfortable, warm and not too small. The bathroom was spacious, however the water was not hot enough. An open lift (which requires a little clever maneouvring to get in and out of) provides access to the upper floors. Breakfast was a typical contintential breakfast, although the plastic bowls for the cereal were small. The staff are very accommodating and speak English. One morning we left on a day tour before breakfast was served, we were given croissants and cappuccino before leaving. Grazie!

We liked the hotel, because we got a room on the 5th floor, so it was quiet and just like on the photos. An extra feature of the room was the shower, which could also work as a kind of turkish bath (or steam cabin)- it is quite relaxing after a long day in town. Be aware that heating is done through the air conditioning system, so it can be noisy and you have to have a minimum knowledge of air conditioner programming if you want to set the temparature (we were there in JAnuray so our problem was not the summer heat :)). Breakfast was basic but enough, staff is quite helpful with sufficient English knowledge.

The hotel itself was fine, as described, and convenient to Termini without being too close. However, not only did 50 Euros disappear from our room, but the front desk staff forgot to phone us the morning before our early flight out of Rome, and also neglected to call us a cab. Luckily, we had set a watch alarm as a backup and did not miss our flight. For those reasons, I cannot recommend staying here, although it is clean, safe, and reasonably priced.

The entrance to the hotel is very tricky. There are steps and very difficult to carry big suitcases. The elevator makes lot of noise and it is too small. I think they should remove the inside wooden doors. Rooms are very clean. Phones did not work. Shower area is too little, needs to be widened. The location is not 300 meters from the Termini as claimed on the web site. It is more than that. Single Beds are small as well, but it is OK. When I made the reservation the price was 82 Euros per night. Later on the price went down. But I did not get the benefit of the lower price. I think the rooms are good for about 60 euros. We enjoyed our stay at Rome.We took our teenage sons and found plenty to do for all of us.The hotel is in a good location near the station and about 15 mins walk. The breakfast was basic but adequate for our 3 day stay. The staff were helpful and the rooms good. We would recommend the hotel for the money we paid and we would stay there again. We felt safe in the evening to walk back to the hotel from the centre. It is the first time i have used Venere, but liked the feedback facility and on the strenght of this service, is why I booked the hotel and I would certainly use them again.

My wife loved the decor of the room. Small, but very pleasant. The elevator (old fashioned) is worth the price alone. Friendly staff, good value and ideal location if you need to catch a train from Termini station in the morning.

We had a lovely 2 nights at the Monte Carlo. It has a great location and the rooms were ideal for a short stay. Very clean, quiet and welcoming. Breakfast was basic but sufficient (although the waitress was not a happy cheery individual!!) Recommended!

This was the first location in all of Italy where on arrival the man at the desk actually helped us with our suitcases. The staff was very friendly and gave recommendations on many things. The location was fine, it was a bit of a walk but very do-able to the train and bus station. The room was a good size although the bed was a bit slouchy. I would recommend the hotel.

Compact room, but clean, and convenient for metro. In a quiet neighbourhood, and staff were helpful. Suitable for families and not as noisy at night as I had expected. I would be happy to return.

Good hotel with friendly and helpful staff . Hotel well located for transport . Minor criticism would be the poor breakfast but this was offset by the positives and I will have no hesitation in staying here when I visit Rome next .

Small room but I was travelling alone and had asked for a single, so no problem. I never did figure out how to operate the temperature setting on the air-conditioning, but I also never bother to ask. I just tuned off when I went to bed as room temperature during the night was OK. When I asked about transportation to the airport I was offered the possibility of having a taxi booked through the hotel. I accepted (I was leaving very early). What I got was not exactly a taxi (no meter) and I am pretty sure I was charged around 10 euro more than I would have paid for a proper taxi (payment was at the hotel desk and in cash only).

We were very happy with our stay in the hotel allthough we had bad luck with our luggage when arriving to Rome. The hotel is easily reachable from the Termini station and the staff was really helpfull and friendly. We got good advice where to find all the necessary things in the neighbourhood to recover those left in the lost luggage. And the Vecchia Romagnas in the lobby bar were actually doubles when taken together with the coffee. You could feel that they are trying to let you feel yourself comfortable. If you are an ordinary traveller looking for a comfortable place where everything is nice and clean, this hotel is giving a taste of an old palace without any overwhelming luxury.

The room was small but clean. I didn't enjoy the breakfast - but that's a small gripe on my part, otherwise the hotel is reasonably priced and is quite central - about 10 mins walk from termini station.

Montecarlo is very basic, at least the room we were given. Very small room with just enough room to walk around the bed. Noise came in from outside. Air conditioning was effective though. Breakfast was poor.

Very nice hotel, I enjoyed my stay very much. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotel is within walking distance of Colosseum and Via del Corso, but there are also two metro stations near by, so getting around in Rome is very easy. The room was a bit small, but when you're in Rome, I believe that staying in your room is not the main point of your holiday. Overall: one of the best hotels I've been in Italy, and I would definitely stay in this hotel again. PS. And there was also good restaurants near by.

A very safe area, as it's next to the Turkish Embassy. Although there is a Porn Movie Cinema next door, it didn't bother us at all. Rooms are clean, TV didn't work during the first evening, but it's fixed the next morning.

My first time in Rome and this hotel exceeded my expectations. I found the room to be typical in size to other European hotels I have stayed in - smaller than North America. However, if you are looking for size, then you are missing the point of Rome and spending far too much time in your room. On this note, as this hotel is on the East side of the city, much of the important tourist spots are West of it. This problem was easily solved by the subway, bus, or healthy walks.

Our stay at the Montecarlo was most enjoyable, although the breakfast was a little basic. The Hotel is a little way out from the main tourist areas of Rome but this was compensated by the pleasant local restaurants, nice to eat with the locals. Getting to the centre of Rome was quite a walk or meant getting the bus from the nearby train Station No64 (but do be aware of pickpockets, we were very nearly done) All in all we had a most enjoyable stay at the Montecarlo and in the wonderful city of Rome

Tha staff was very helpful. I needed to chenge my reservation at the last minute, long past the deadline set by venere.com. They were really nice about it, and I even got the same rate as online. It was a short walk from the railway station and the neighborhood was really quiet and safe. I never had any problems walking at all hours. The room are on the smallish side, but spotless. And I really liked their bathroom. Pretty spacious and great water pressure (which in my experience can be a problem in Rome!)

We enjoyed our stay in Rome, and Hotel Montecarlo was reasonable for that money. It was clean and the staff was kind. (Only if they would change those uncomfortable soft beds!) Anyway, I would recommend it to my friends - in this price range.

I stayed at Hotel Montecarlo on Aug 12-15, booking a double room.________ Pros: price wasn't bad for a nice-sized room that was clean and had a decent bathroom, free breakfasts included, 10 minute walk to Termini station while pulling suitcases, and nice open street view_______ Cons: not close to any tourist attractions in a city where the subway doesnt cover much area, and double bedroom had two twin beds made individually and pushed together (which too easily slide apart when a couple uses the bed)

When we arrived at the Montecarlo, we were greeted and assisted by a very kind, gracious employee of the hotel. The room was clean, but the bathroom was not. When we checked out, the man at the desk took my money, wrote me a receipt, then continued with paperwork for other customers. He did not say "thank you, have a nice trip, was everything alright, goodbye," or anything! I was surprised and disappointed with this lack of service.

We found the hotel very easy from the main train station, which is a few mins walk away. The hotel is about 50mins walk from the vatican, (by our route)and on route you get to see everything. The breakfast was fine and the hotel staff were helpful, a good place to stay for the money.
