We had a room in the executive area of the hotel which can only be accessed by leaving the main hotel and walking down the street to an unmarked entrance. It was strange, as this portion is next to the hotel but not connected. Rooms were spacious, modern, renovated and generally very good.

Fantastic location right across from Santa Maria Maggiore Church. Our window overlooked the Piazza. Service was exceptional and the continental breakfast in the morning was just right. We also had a very nice dinner on the rooftop terrace on the second night. If you want to stay near the Termini Station, reasonably close to the Colisseum area, and want to do it at an excellent hotel then I strongly recommend the Mecenate Palace.

I ask for a double room use single, and quiet. They gave me a very small room, without table for work, the bed was 1,5 person, and directly over the road, which is very busy at morning. No one was able to help me to print a document from my isb key. For this price, a very bad solution in Rome. Roof garden is nice.

Great hotel and great price. The room was terrific. I was proposing to my girl-friend while in Rome, so I wanted a very special place to stay. This was perfect!

I had booked for 2 nights, confirmation email recieved, but on arrival was told that there had been a computer error and that the first night of my stay would have to be at a different hotel "in the group". To tired to argu I went to the other hotel, a fairly grim place by comparison, then returned to the original hotel the following day. They gave me a room upgrade so I'll allow it to pass this time. Any similar experiences?

We thought that our room was quite good and as we expected rather small by American standards. The bathroom was excellent and quite large for the size of the room. The roof bar had a great view of the square below. The restaurants menu was rather limited for dinner but was good for breakfast.

I AM DISABLE IN A WHEEL CHAIR .THE STAFF WERE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL . THE BREAKFAST WAS IN THE GARDEN TERRACE ON THE ROOF WITH NO LIFT .I WAS TOLD THIS ON ARRIVAL. AND ASKED IF I WANTED BREAKFAST IN MY ROOM .BUT I MANAGED THE STAIRS. ITS A LOVELY HOTEL CLOSE TO EVERYTHING OF INTEREST.THERE WAS A LOVELY CHURCH RIGHT OUTSIDE THE HOTEL.THE ROOM WAS SO QUIET AND PEACEFUL AFTER A DAY OF SIGHTSEEING

Reservation got confused so they gladly put me up in an associated hotel for one night then moved me, moving my bags for me. Great service from the front desk so I gave them a 10. The rooftop terrace is a great evening respite from the craziness and July heat. The bath was decent, the bed comfortable for one, and the air con pretty good. The location is near the train and right by a tourist bus stop. The room was a little noisy, but not bad until the maids came through at 8:00 pounding on doors rather than using the quiet doorbells. Then I felt the breakfast wait staff were slow and unconcerned, especially slow to clear tables on the open-air/warmer/around the corner side of the terrace where nearly everyone wanted to sit.

Everything at the Mecenate was excellent. Breakfast on the rooftop was a fabulous treat. All of the employees were helpful and welcoming. The rooms were charming and amazingly quiet given the location. It is very convenient to Termini Station (walking distance) and also to the hop-on-hop-off tour buses that stop at Plaza San Maggiore. There is a taxi stand nearby which is convenient and good selection of restaurants in the area. The only problem I had involved arranging for a car when we left. The car service that the hotel arranged for was >1 hour late, at which point we just took cabs instead.

We found the Mecenate Palace to be very conveniently located between the termini and the metro stops. The staff, particularly Carlo (at the desk) were friendly and helpful. The decor was lovely, particularly the apothecary jars everywhere. It is quiet and restful, with great views from the windows. The bathroom was luxurious and we were very comfortable. Thank you for a great stay in Rome!

Excellent hotel. Only negative - hotel initially charged our stay in US dollars rather than euros on credit card. If we didn't catch this and tell them we wanted the credit card rather than the hotel to determine the conversion rate, our overall cost would have been 5% higher.

The staff was wonderful! I have travelled a lot and yes, the rooms were small, but normally, I don't spend much time in the room. The colazione was execellent and the staff was very accomodating! We had gone topside for drinks and the view was incredible! Again, great staff! Overall, an excellent staff, great location. First time to Europe (US residents) with my wife and 10 and 13 y.o. daughters. We stayed 2 nights at Mecenate, then went on a cruise, then came back for 3 more nights. Would recommend Mecenate! The place has an old world charm, with modern updates you come to expect from a nice hotel. The rooms were clean and modern. The bathrooms were huge (and private - you read a lot about public baths in Italy). All in all, an excellent place to stay, and would return. I rated down in a few areas. They did not have anything more than a double available, so I had to rent 2 rooms, which made the stay much more expensive. Further, our first 2 nites, the rooms were 200 euro per nite each. On our return, they were 120, and they were bigger rooms. Not sure why. I don't like that the rates can change so much. Breakfast was great - simple but free. Always a very nice start to your day. Rooms were very quiet, and the windows opened up to the busy noisy street below. All front staff spoke English (and even tolerated my bad Italian), and all but one were pleasant and very helpful (goodbye, Mr. Grumpy). They arranged for all of our transfers to the airport and seaport (in Civitavechia). The surroundings were ok, typical Roman street, with all the great ambience and dirt. Always felt safe. Easy walk to the Colosseum. Do not miss Santa Maria Maggiore across the street! I too recommend La Vecchia Concha - make sure you tell them Mecenate sent you, you will get better service. Avoid the Gelato restaurant on the corner 2 doors down. They will rip you off. Walk another 100 feet to any of a dozen other places.

My husband and I got married in Rome and stayed at the Mecenate Palace on our wedding night and for a further two nights after that. The hotel is certainly very clean and nicely decorated but I do feel that it is slightly overpriced with regards to the service we received. Firstly, the staff at the hotel knew that we were a honeymoon couple yet they didn't leave any complimentary wine or fruit in our room upon our arrival as many 4 or 5 star establishments would which was slightly disappointing. Tea and coffee in the room was limited to a couple of sachets of each and only two mini plastic tubs of milk a day. The staff were generally friendly but on our last night in Rome we had planned on meeting a couple of family members for dinner and had asked them to meet us at the hotel. When we invited them up to our room for just a couple of minutes whilst we finished getting ready, they had been told by the front desk they had to show their passports before they were allowed up, which isn't exactly something you have to go to dinner with! I don't know if this is standard procedure in every hotel but I thought it was very strange. I wouldn't say that I would never stay at this hotel again. As I said before it is nice and comfortable and very conveniently located for all the major tourist attractions in Rome. I don't think it should be rated as a 4 star establishment though. It is perhaps at the most the equivalent of 3.5 stars for the money you pay. It certainly isn't the place for you if you are on a romantic break or, like us, on your honeymoon and are expecting something that bit more special!

Front desk staff were very helpful and happy to talk to us in English. A reading light in our room notified as not working at 8.00pm was fixed by the time we came back to the hotel after dinner- impressive service. Delightful breakfast room, but on busier days there were queues for breakfast unless weather permitted use of the outside terrace area. We immediately reccomended the hotel to friends on returning home.

Great hotel. Soundproofing, firm beds (great for back sufferers) Great roof garden (go and check out the Roman sunset). Breakfast OK. Very clean. FREE COTS for infants. No restaurant, but go down the road (Carlo Alberto) to La Vecchia Conca. Ask the Mecenate to ring down for you. Superb food & drink and a brilliant price. The staff may recommend somewhere called Tema or something like that. DON'T GO THERE. It weas awful and expensive. Great gelateria round the corner as well. The Venere price was superb. We probably couldn't have afforded the list price. Don't get a cab from Termini. It is an easy ten minute stroll.

This is the second time we have stayed in Rome at The Mecenate Palace, our friends have stayed there as well. This is a little gem of an hotel, centrally located for all of the sights, the Metro and the Railway Station (Terminus) with excellent accomodation and a decent continental breakfast. There are some great value offers at this hotel particularly if you go (like us) in November or February. On both occasions the weather was sunny if a little cool but nevertheless better than that which we left (and arrived back to) in the UK. The service from all of the staff was friendly and welcoming and the desk staff were always able to give advice with an excellent command of the English language!!

The hotel is so very handy for the metro (termini station). We were in a party of 10, and although our room was perfectly adequate some of our friends's rooms were on the small side. Although all were spotlessly clean. The staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for us, arranging taxis etc. If I went back to Rome, I would certainly stay at the Mecenate Palace again and would recommend it to anyone. 10 gold stars!!!!

We had an amazing time at this hotel, I was worried that the location would be too far away from the main sites, but it was perfect, especially is the big red tour buses stop right outside at the Santa Maria Maggiorre. We had a superior room over looking the Basillica and slept with the curtains open as the view was phenomenol!! The only thing that could have been improved would be a better bar menu. We'd definitely recommend the Mecenate and would love to stay there again too!

No problem with the hotel, only disappointment was with Venere: we reserved for a certain number of nights, but the system had informed the hotel we were arriving a day later, so for the first night we had to go to a different hotel. That was not pleasant. But the Mecenate Palace was a very good place to stay.

We stayed at Mecenate for the first two nights of our honeymoon and then returned toward the end of our trip. The first two nights were pretty good--our room was small, but we expected that. The breakfast was decent, with croissants, cheese, yogurt, breakfast meats, toast and fruit in syrup available. After going to Florence and Venice for several days, we returnd to the hotel. When I went to check in, the clerk told me that our reservation had been cancelled because the night manager had tried the night before to verify our credit card number that we used to reserve the room back in July and it did not process. The number he was checking was indeed incorrect--I had had to change my card number because someone had stolen it online. What was troublesome, however, was that (1) we asked on the way out if our reservation was still confirmed for when we got back, and the clerk checked and said yes, and (2) why didn't the night manager not look and see that our name was in the system with a perfectly valid credit card number (from our initial stay)? Luckily they had one room available for that night but not for the other two, so we had to spend the night searching for another hotel. In sum, I'd say it's a decent hotel but their process for confirming reservations is problematic. It would make much more sense for them to try to confirm the reservation a week before and contact the person if the credit card number doesn't work. It's clearly an issue for them because the clerk told us they had done this to at least one other visitor that day as well. Granted, the clerk was as nice as he could possibly be, but the damage was done--no one wants to spend their vacation trying to figure out where they're going to stay, especially when they had already made a reservation and was told it was confirmed, only to find out it was not.

Altho the area is spotty the hotel is first rate. Very nice lobby and well maintained. Our room was small but very nice and also a comfortable bed. There was a coffee and tea maker in the room which was wonderful. The breakfast area was on the rooftop with a good view of the area and also the breakfast buffet had alot of variety and plentiful. Apparently there was also a bar on the roof but we did not know that until we checked out. It is close to transportation but we also walked alot. Because of its proximity to the train station we were able to walk to the train from there. We found a great restaurant which was walking distance called Unicum. Food was good and the ambience inside was cozy and very friendly - especially the owner. Plus there is a wonderful piano player there. I think we spent the entire evening there. We definetely recommend it. Would also recommend the hotel altho the staff seemed a bit stuffy.

The photos do not reflect the true quality of Mecanate Palace Hotel--it is supurb! Our room was upgraded to a spacious triple, the bath was large with beautiful Italian marble on the walls and floors. We slept soundly in the soundproof room encased in luscious linens. The cleanliness was on a par with Swiss hotels. Breakfast choices on the rooftop terrace were expansive, as was the view. The only way this hotel could improve would be to offer cappuccinos with the breakfast!

I stayed 3 nights at this hotel with my family. The location of the hotel couldn't be more convenient! It's 3 min from the train station and a walking distance from Coliseo and most other famous places. Our room was small, but it was enough to have a small basinet for our baby. And believe me, the room was beautiful! It was very very well decorated. The terrace where the breakfast is offered is also nice. It has a great view of the the Cathedral Maria Maggiore. Also, I would recommend you to eat at the Conca Vechia restaurant (1 min walk from the hotel). We tried different dishes there and all of them were just great. One of the best food my family and I had in Italy! (Try the ossobuco with risoto or the lasagna)

Mecenate Palace Hotel has become our pied a terre when visiting Rome. The rooms are excellently appointed, quiet, and immaculately clean. The staff, especially the gentlemen at the reception desk, are paragons of professionalism, efficiency, and courtesy. The hotel’s central location is excellent for walks to sights/sites of historical, artistic or cultural interest in the old city; the stazione Termini is only a few blocks away; and there are always cabs waiting at the S. Maria Maggiore piazza just across the street if you prefer not to walk.

I reserved this hotel because the customers' rating was wonderful. But can't say "excellent" of course, not too bad. We stayed a junior suit for three nights. The hotel was very comfortable and the rooms were spacious. The rooms were quiet and our room had a view of the Basilica of Mary Major. The only problem we had was upon arrival on the night before Easter. I was told that we did not have a reservation. I had my reservation issued by Venere, but it was not in their system. We had booked 3 rooms and they only had 2 rooms available. The hotel staff was very helpful and gave us the 2 rooms they had at the price I had originally booked. They offered to set up an extra bed in the 2 rooms we had so it all ended well. I still am not sure if the problem with the reservation was a problem with the hotel or with Venere.

Wonderful experience in their Prosperizio suite. Great location near St. Maria Maggiore and train station (although we took cab to station.) Area is busy, but so is most of Rome. Great attention, when they could not get us into room by 1 pm they treated us to a drink in their cafe and got us in by 2. Great rooftop location for nice breakfast... great service. Very nice hotel! The hotel is on the very edge of a "sketchy" neighborhood, but much nicer than other hotels listed near Termini Station. This should not scare you away, this hotel has excellent service. There is a bistro next door with very friendly and welcoming staff, good for a coffee or pastry anytime of day. We walked to every sight in Rome from the hotel, except for Vatican City. Taking the metro is very convenient and easy to figure out, but watch out for pickpockets on crowded trains, they are mostly young girls and boys that look to be Romanian or Bosnian. Breakfast at the hotel is adequate, nothing fancy, breads, cheese, salami, fruit and yogurt. I would recommend this hotel but wouldn't spend more than 160-180 per night.

Near Termini station(about 10 minites walk), there is a supermarket in front of the hotel, and it's out of the dangerous area around the station. So it's very convenient. The room is not so wide, but is very compact and useful. Every time I use this hotel during the stay at Rome. We have stayed 2x this past year, 1x in a Suite which was very nice and the second in a regular double room which was fine. The prices each time were extremely reasonable for Rome (Feb./March). The positives: near metro, train station, and walkable to sights (15-20min). The Negatives: not as many good restaurants-although Agate is suppose to be one of the best in Rome and is just down the street from Hotel. A great value.

I chose this hotel based on the positive reviews I had read here, and on its proximity to the train station/subway. The rooms were very small, but immaculate. The bathroom was of a good size, however, and very nicely appointed. Breakfast is served on a lovely terrace, with enough options to keep anyone happy (I eat as the Italians do, but my father prefers cereal and fruit in the morning). The staff in the dining room was very pleasant. The hotel has a nice bar off the lobby which is a great place to kill time or just relax after a day of walking around. My only complaint would be that the front desk could be a little less stiff. We found only one concierge to be friendly and helpful. The one on staff when we paid our bill literally said nothing to us, not thank you, goodbye or buon viaggio. Warm service is something one always remembers, so I don't know why they would mar the experience in what otherwise seems to be a thoughfully put together hotel. I would definitely stay there again, for all the positives, which for me includes the neighborhood: I love Santa Prassede which is right around the corner, Palazzo Massimo across from the train station, and a stroll down Via Panisperna.

Overall, our stay here was outstanding. The property was as advertised by others who had stayed here. The location is not as far from old Greece as some have indicated. We walked with our toddler in a stroller from the Pantheon. The hotel area is authentic Rome, less "touristy" and less crowded. There were several very nice inexpensive restaurants in the area. The hotel itself is simply excellent. We had the Orzio suite (living room and bedroom separated by a hallway where the huge bathroom was located). The room was excellent for putting our toddler in the living room with her own crib. With fabric covered walls, the suite was also superbly quiet. The breakfast room was very nice, but the breakfast was simple--mostly pastries and breads/cereals. I highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel was a gem, everthing about it was first class, service, cleanliness, breakfast etc. The only draw back was the area, and even that wasn't a major drawback. The local trasport, buses, metro etc. was close at hand. We would choose this hotel again, in preference to another in a more up market area, we felt the hotel did everything to enhance our stay

Comfortable hotel, well located, everything within walking distance. It was nice to have breakfast on the rooftop terrace. The bathroom was clean and well designed. There is a small supermarket across the road where you can mix with the locals!

The service at the Mecenate Palace Hotel was faultless. From the moment we arrived, we were early, but within 10 minutes a room was ready for us. They gave us directions to all the major tourist sites when they learnt we had not been to Rome before. The room, although not big had everything you could want. The cleanliness and condition of the room was again faultless and compared with any top hotel we have stayed in England. Breakfast was served in the roof top restaurant and again the service and the continental buffet breakfast was excellent. So would I recommend the Mecenate Palace Hotel and would I say there again - a big YES!!

The hotel employees were extremely helpful on our arrival and throughout our stay. We had an initial problem with the reservation, but they sorted it out quickly. Their English is exemplary and they were always happy to help with enquiries re restaurants. Rooms, whilst fairly small, are well equipped and comfortable. You even get tea and coffee making facilities!

My partner and I spent 2 days at the Mecenate Palace. The location, only 2 blocks to the train station, was ideal. It was walking distance to most sights, but far enough away to not feel congested or noisy. Our double room, overlooking the beautiful courtyard, was quiet and clean. The breakfast, served on the roof terrace was great. And the terrace is beautiful with great views. The staff was helpful, and the overall quality of the hotel was very high. I would highly recommend the Mecenate Palace, and would stay there again.

Nice hotel with nice people welcoming you. A few disapointments anyway: first room was awfully tiny for 2 people (suspect it was a single ???) we could change the second day second room was better, but there was only a shower in the bathroom, and no bath. Too bad. At last, when the hotel is full, you have to queue the morning for breakfast. It's a bit frustrating for a 4* hotel.

Whilst the room was not over-generous in proportions, it was furnished to a very high standard. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was basic but adequate. Would definitely recommend.

We were in a suite which was E320. It had a gorgeous private patio with lots of plants and flowers overlooking Rome. Loved it.

The staff at the Mecenate Palace were fantastic! - very welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. We particularly loved having breakfast up on the roof, and our nightcaps there as well! I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone - although we didn't have "the view" from our bedroom, and it would be the icing on the cake if you did.

This was a great hotel considering the amenities we got for the price. No, the rooms are not big, but what city hotel in Europe gives you large rooms anyway. It was big enough for the 2 of us and our luggage. The rooftop terrace and the breakfast were both very nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

This is an excellent 4-star hotel with a front desk that provided 5-star service and advice.

Nice hotel, good location, at a good price. But we were quoted a suite for 4 people (on Venere), and when we arrived, they charged an extra 20E a night, each, for the third and fourth person (our children). However, I would stay here again if I went to Rome.

We arrived exhausted from an auto trip through the surrounding areas of Rome. We spoke no Italian and really needed our rest. The concierge on duty, Christian, explained that there was a small difficulty. A guest was unable to secure his flight and so one of our two booked rooms was not available. We were offered a suite for one night and given two deluxe doubles for the remainder of our stay. The value was significantly higher than our booked costs and the hotel was extremely solicitous and gracious. EVERYONE was patient with our fractured attmpts at Italian and abundantly helpful. We really wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. Mille gracie Mecenate!

We got a fantastic rate for Mecenate Palace Hotel. Unfortunately we only stayed one night, but in that short time enjoyed the rooftop bar and the feeling of staying in an upscale hotel at a very reasonable price. The location is very convenient to the Termini, but the surrounding streets are a little crowded and give the impression that you are not in the best part of town.

really a beutiful hotel. the first room we had--we stayed twice as bookends on a recent trip--was gorgeous, the second was in need of some repair--but not seriously. although the rooms were small, they were superbly outfitted with everything you might need. most of the staff was helpful and gracious, a few rather snobby (front desk). area around the hotel is not so great but really good location, especially if you don't mind traveling in the evening for dinner. a special meal was held because the pope was coming at the church across the piazza from the hotel. it was expensive and not good--though the wine, as elsewhere in italy, was great.

We had a great stay at this very well located yet quiet hotel. Proximity to the central train/metro station was a huge bonus when navigating the city as well as arriving from the airport and departing by train to Venice. The staff was very friendly and helpful yet discreet. How nice to sleep in without being disturbed by housekeeping, anxious to make up your room so that they can go home for the day! Lots of small touches like that made our stay memorable.

This was the second hotel we stayed in in Rome. It deserves its four star rating. The rooms are beautiful, well decorated and quiet. They are small by U.S. standards, but large by European standards. The bathrooms were well designed and clean. Turn down service provided every night, including Italian linen on the floor by the bed! The AC worked well and was quite welcome, due to a heat wave in Rome during our stay. We stayed for four days and got an excellent rate as a result. I was quite impressed with the value, particularly compared to other hotels in Rome for the same price. The area around the hotel is a bit "unkempt," as one guidebook described it, but it is close to Termini and not a bad neighborhood at all - just quite a bit of graffiti and the like. That seems common throughout Rome, however. Based upon our experience, I would recommend the Mecenate without hesitation.

We felt that this was a great place to stay during our vacation. If you are looking for feedback on EVERYTHING, well then, just two minor things. One, the glass surround for the tub/shower is a bit short to block water from the shower head. The bathroom floor gets very, very wet. Two, even though the employees at the desk were extremely helpful in finding our way around town, one of the recommended restaurants was not a good place to eat. It was called the Hostaria Tema. We certainly understand that you are in the hotel and not the restaurant business, and we went there at our own risk. However, I only mention it due to the strangeness of the experience. They presented a rather lengthy menu but seemed either ill-equipped or unwilling to prepare anything that was not the "special" for the day (fish). I went ahead to order a non-recommended item (pork) and it was very undercooked. Not only was it not refunded but we were overcharged for the meal) Perhaps you can make note of it and not recommend it to other customers in the future. We didn't view this as an issue with the overall hotel experience, as we had a very nice stay at the Mecenate and in the city of Rome. (The breakfast was very good!) If we ever come to Italy again, we will consider staying there again. Arivederci! Dan & Erin Meintel

Very good place for a holiday in Rome. Warm wellcome, good breakfast, even for Germans, in a romantic environment with a nice view over Rome. We booked the Suite Virgilio, which was very nice, and has a phantastic private terrace on the top of the Hotel as a real highlight for all my family. Would come back again.
