Minor faults of faulty toilet seat and noisy bathroom fan, more care needed to monitor condition of room equipment. Location is perfect and not noisy for a city centre. lift only goes to 3rd floor, not good when you have lots of baggage..

Definitely NOT what one would associate with 3-star quality in any other major European capital. Small room, with microscopic 1970s era TV, peeling wallpaper, horrible green fake wood furniture, holes in the wall around the shower - you get the picture.

Level of rooms for our small gropu varied too much, ie one room execellent, the second medium and third poor. we were, however, given opportity change the poorest one, but that wa s far away from the two others three floors up, so we accepted the poorer version. Staff very helpfull in putting in order small deficiencies.

The location was good for a relatively reasonable price. BUT--- I would tell anyone checking in first inspect any room thoroughly before accepting it. Avoid Room 220 (same price, half size, OLD everything, bad ceiling, poor a/c, tiny bath, poor lighting, fumes from street, no working frig) & 234 (good size but only if room is fixed (one working outlet, no working hair dryer, leaking shower spigot). It seems every effort was made in cost-cutting, including avoiding repairs, and peculiar breakfast choices (many sweets - tart, pastries, cookies, crackers, sliced cheese, same corn flakes every day, plain roll and coffees/expresso and unusual juices.) Staff ranged from friendly and helpful to moody and bothered depending on the time of day and shift.

I went to Rome with my boyfriend and best friend for three days and two nights. I loved the hotel, it was clean and the people at the front desk were friendly and helped us locate things nearby. The room was large and well-kept. I really enjoyed my stay and definitely would go again.

GREAT LOCATION, friendly staff, good price. Rooms are small but you are not going there to look at a 13" TV and spend time in the room. Breakfast is indeed continental (pastries, juice and coffee). There is a bus station (I believe bus # 64 and 40 -- verify with the hotel staff) within 2-3 min walk that takes you to all the attractions.

We stayed in this hotel for just one night. So, it was tolerable. For longer stays, we would not recommend it. The bathroom did not feel clean so we skipped taking shower the next morning. But, it is close to metro and buses. The breakfast was just okay.

For three days there was a pluggage in the shower sinkhole so the room was basically flooded during a shower. They managed to fix it to the third day. The breakfast was simply bad. The room was smelly.

We had a pleasant stay in Rome. Location of the hotel was fine. Trevi Fountain is only a 10 minute walk away and to Trastevere for going out for dinner you can take the bus (bus station near the hotel). The only negative things were the view of our hotel room to the dirty atrium and also the breakfast did not answer all our requirements (coffe quality could have been better as well as the juices). All in all this hotel offers a good relationship between price and quality.

WALKING DISTANCE TO TRAIN/TERMINI STATION,HOP ON HOP OFF BUS,(NEAR TRAIN STATION) COLOSEUM, BARBERINI PALACE/MUSEUM(MUST SEE). BREAKFAST WAS FINE, PASTRIES,HAM CHEESE,CEREAL,YOGURT.ROOM WAS CLEAN, BUT BOTTOM OF SHOWER CURTAIN WAS KIND OF BROWN.

Hotel is in a very good location just off Via Nazionale, which is one of the major roads in Rome. The nearest metro station, Repubblica, is only a few mins. walk up the road. Although the Venere location map was wrong at the time of making the booking. It was only through making separate checks on the web that we noticed the hotel was in fact at the other end of the same road! It is very easy to get about Rome from the hotel by using the metro, the many buses on Via Nazionale or simply walking. There are bars and restaurants nearby on Via Nazionale and also a small supermarket (Spar) only 2 mins. walk. The hotel itself is probably typical for Rome in that the rooms are fairly compact and one or two of the finshes are in need of upkeep. However, the room and bathroom were both clean on arrival, with daily maid service providing fresh towels and keeping the room tidy. The breakfast, although not that varied, provided a reasonable selection of cereals, breads, pastries and cakes, with fruit juices and coffee etc. The various people on the front desk were very helpful with directions and maps, as requested. I would say the hotel was fairly expensive for our stay compared with the overall quality, but this was partly due to being there for the Champions League Final. I would recommend the hotel on location if you can get a good price.

Location is great, only at 9-10 blocks from Termini station. Near to Piazza de la Republica and very close (walking distance) to Fontana de Trevi, Piazza Navona, Piazza Spagna, Foros, Colosseo, etc. Breakfast is very good. The only cons I found is that the bathroom is very small and the shower is in the same space as the WC. But most of italian hotels are like this.. for me, was not a big deal.

This was my second stay at this hotel, and I would definitely return! This was my first time in Rome alone, and the hotel is situated in an ideal place. The area is well lit and fairly safe. I walked most everywhere I went from the hotel. The rooms are adequate - you'll have to pay an arm and a leg in most of Europe to get a spacious room. The room fit my needs - a place to sleep and shower. The breakfast was typical- croissants, coffee, and juice.

Hotel is situated in the 10-15 walking distance from Termini almost at via Nazionale. The single was guiet, but with very used furniture and broken tiles on the floor, wallpaper was with greasy spots and celling was needed repair. Not 3 stars hotel. Almost rude stuff at the reception. Would not stay there again.

Our first time in rome. all city sites are close to the hotel and this is the only advatage. service at reception was bad- check in was late because they didn't have available room. we had no hot water at the evening, so when we ask the guy at the reception, his answer was:"for me it's hot", what can you say after an answer like that. other than that, the walls are very thin, so you can here all the surounding rooms together. the room is not very clean(i found a blond hair on my pillow, needless to say i have black hair). TV is tiny so i needed my eyeglasses. my stay in zara hotel was a bad expeience, i'll never go back there and you should'nt too.

This was my first visit to Rome, stayed in a single room, apart from the door hitting the bed when I entered the room it was a great room at the back so no street noise, brilliant location I walked everywhere and saw everything I wanted. Hotel is very well located to visit the surroundings. The hotel is not that new, though clean and quiet (room was not on road side). Breakfast is correct (no fresh fruit or yoghourt) but bread, croissant, cakes, cereals. Coffee from machine. I would come back as this was ideally located.

Easy to find Hotel in good region. 10 min. from statione termini, 5 minutes to busstop. You dont hear the noise from via nationale, but the next house is renonvated with cutting of tiles from eight o clock in the Morning (Oct 2008). Spacious room with a very small bathroom with a drain in the middle (no separate shower). Lower 10cm of bathroom doorframe was moulded away. Breakfast has every day the same two processed cheese as the only non-sweet breakfast ingredients. No bench to place suitcase on. No wastepaper basket. Very good windows.

We had a very good experience with Hotel Zara. We arrived about 1p and our rooms were available. Although the rooms are small, they are very clean and neat. The elavator was small but got the job done. Breakfast was very nice. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Beware of the taxi drivers. They charged us 25 euro for what the hotel staff told us was a 15 euro ride from the train station to the hotel. Make sure they start the meter. We learned the hard and expensive way. I would definately stay at Hotel Zara again. The location was great!

Great location close to historical landmarks and friendly staff. The room (triple room) was large with high ceiling and quiet, so perfect to get much need rest after walking long hours in the city. A couple of things did not look to "fresh" as the view from the rooms in the back (this is an old building after all), but we did not care after sighseeing all day. Very good value.

70 euro for a single room which is a little expensive. room was a little noisey only from inside sounds ie/ other peoples toliets flushing/doors closing. W/ windows closed, no outside noise, except when the Italians won their soccer match and everyone was honking their horns. breakfast was basic, cappuchino from a machine. Good location to train, 10 min walk and other attractions.

I had the double room for single use and although I had some difficulty getting in the room with my suitcase and the bed in the way, the size was adequate for a single person. My only issues are minor in that the shower was terrible as it had no water pressure, the cubicle was tiny (although the bathroom itself was roomy) and with only a shower curtain, water was everywhere. The other thing I didn't like about the bathroom was the bidet was right next to the vanity basin with the towels hanging on the wall above it. Also, the room was not "cleaned" in that only the towels were replaced and the bed covers pulled up. The bed was never "made" and the floors were never swept. Not something I would expect from a 3 star hotel, but to be fair, I never mentioned it to management. On the plus side, the room was very quiet, the bed was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and most accommodating. I'd come back!

TV, fridge, air-conditioning, bedding were all about what I would expect for 79.00 euros per night for a single. OK quality - no real deficiencies. For those travellers from North America expecting a spacious bathroom... get over it. Although the lack of a separate shower stall was at first kind of annoying, I got used to it very quickly. As long as the door to the bathroom is closed and the curtain is used properly, no water leaked into the room. However, I could see people of an above average size having a bit of a problem with the lack of space.

Stayed in a twin room tucked round the back of the hotel - no view but very quiet. On the 4th floor and the lift only went to third floor, so care if you have mobility issues. Lift is small so not really suitable for prams etc. Very well located hotel, comfortable walking distance to everything and 10 mins from metro for trip across river to the Vatican. Hotel was very clean and bright with a touch of elegance. Breakfast was ample continental buffet. Good value and would thoroughly recommend.

Very clean, very easy to find, all boxes ticked here. But it's basic. Charming it is not. Very adequate, very comfortable to a point. Breakfast was basic but plentiful. Front door staff was helpful with directions and local info. The ratings it has received on Venere are spot on. Excellent for price and location. I would certainly stay here again, but not in a heartbeat...I'm not convinced there's not something I can get around the same price with a little more heart, or a tiny bit closer to the center. However, I was not disappointed with this choice, and I would call it a very safe bet.

The hotel location is excellent, the area is very safe. We walked to most tourist sites in the morning and took the bus or metro to return to the hotel in the evenings. The 40 and 64 bus lines stop right at the corner in Via Nazionale and they take you almost everywhere. Termini Station is 8 blocks away. There are a few moderately priced restaurants around. Breakfast is abundant, there is a coffee/hot chocolate machine which seems to be the norm in Italy but you can ask for fresh expresso as many times as you want. My only negative comments about this hotel are the horribly hard mattress and that towels are not changed at all, I had to help myself to the clean towels from the housekeeper's cart after 3 days with the same ones. The street noise did not bother us, we actually loved being in a room overlooking the street. I think the hotel is a little overpriced but I recommend to those looking for a safe, clean and conveniently located hotel.

I read a lot of reviews of hotels on venere before going to zara. I was looking for a hotel, to be very close to the metro station, preferably in the center of Rome, clean and affordable. Zara was indeed the hotel which satisfied all these needs in reality as well. The hotel was clean. The room was small but decent, reading the previous reviews, before going there, I thought it might be much smaller. The hotel is very easy to be reached from Metro Station Piata Republica, 1 minute to walk. The hotel is very close to many tourist attractions: Fontana di Trevi, Spanish Steps, etc. The breakfast is italian style, but decent. The hotel personnel si very helpful. I would defintely return to the hotel if I would stay in Rome.

I was glad to choose Hotel Zara. The receptionist Enzo, was very warm and cordial and so were the rest of the staff. I was lucky to get room # 112 which was at the back of the hotel with peace and quiet. Like all rooms in Rome, this one was a bit small as well, but I had a queen size bed which helped. Also, the room smelled initially of new plastic and I had to use my deodorant and open the windows completely after which it was fine. Also, please note the check-in time is 2:00 PM and check-out time is 11:00 AM which is not very convenient really. The location though is fantastic and one could walk all around Rome from here. If I am in Rome again, I would certainly look to staying with Hotel Zara, as long as I get the rooms at the back of the hotel.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Zara. My room was small but perfectly adequate, and had a nice little (about 4 feet by 6 feet) balcony looking onto the back courtyard of the property in the next block (my room was at the back of the hotel, and therefore relatively quiet). I was going to add my photos of my room, looking out onto my terrace, and other shots of Rome, but couldn't get them to download.

The hotel was generally very good. It is nicely located, and is just a brisk walk from the Termini station. Transfers from the airport were very easy, especially using the Terravision service. Then if you have light luggage and don't mind carrying it for 15 mins, you can walk to the hotel. Otherwise, take the bus. When we got to the hotel, we were greeted nicely by the bloke on the door. The service did differ a little between the door staff, with some being a little more friendly and helpful than others, but none of them were rude or unhelpful, so that's a good start. Our room was very clean, but also quite outdated. The facilities were nothing to write home about, but at least we had them. The shower/bathroom was the thing which let the room down the most being a little grubby looking, although it was still clean. Trust us to go to the hotel while they were renovating the outside of it. This meant that sometimes we heard the workmen out there while they were re-cementing the decor of the courtyard. But that was a 1-off I suppose, so don't worry about that if you're going. Most of the attractions in the area are easily walkable, with the Trevi fountain being a 5-10 minute easy walk, the colloseum an easy 10-15 minute walk, and others a little further. But if you want to use the metro to get to places, then there is a metro station (republica) about 2 minutes walk away, with lots of buses just round the corner of the hotel. There is a Spar shop just round the corner, so you can easily buy plenty of things to eat/drink or shower things if you run out. The thing we had trouble with was finding restaurants. There weren't many really nice ones that we could find easily, and the season when we went (mid august) a lot of them were closed for holiday (just typical again!). But there was a nice one just near the republica station called cuisine nazionale (or something like that) which did very nice pizzas. But for your best restaurant selectio

If you like sleeping on an air mattress and drinking instant cappucino in the morning, this is your place. The beds were horribly uncomfortable- small and felt like an air mattress. We did not spend much time in the hotel, but after a long day it would have been nice to return to a comfortable bed. The front desk was helpful, but the woman running breakfast was very unpleasant. She would not allow us to have a cappucino while we waited to eat since there are only a few tables in the dining room. Then when we were finally seated, she only allowed us to drink from the instant cappucino machine, even when we politely asked for a freshly brewed one, watched many employees take freshly brewed cappucinos, and even offered to pay for them. I suppose the cappucino machine prominently displayed in the bar is only for hotel staff and not for guests. I am not sure if these experiences are characteristic of all budget hotels in Rome- I would not recommend staying here to anyone, but rather take a chance somewhere else.

Hotel Zara was perfectly located for our needs. We were a short walk to all the major tourist attractions (Colisseum, Pantheon, Forum, etc) and had easy access to the Metro station. The room was small, but I expected that and it wasn't a problem as we didn't spend anytime there other than to sleep and wash up for more sightseeing. :) The staff was courteous and helpful, even at 4am when we needed to call a taxi for another girl who needed to get to her hostel. Nothing majorly bad to report. Everything was either as expected or exceeded expectations.

Very much as described, ideal location within walking distance of all attractions in Rome simple clean tidy rooms, welcoming staff who can speak good English. Breakfast a bit basic but if all you're after is somewhere clean and quiet to sleep at night with nothing extravagant then this ideal. The rooms were clean, quiet and exactly what we expected from the photographs. We were disappointed that the bar was not open during our stay (February)which meant there was no communal meeting place for our group. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the location gave us walking access to most of the main sites, although for 1 euro on the metro cuts the distance to the Vatican.

Traveling with my wife we found hotel zara basic but very comfortable, arriving after midnight we allowed the hotel to book our airport transfer, pleased we did as it was a very busy place even at that time of night. We had a very warm welcome at the hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable but the first night didn't sleep too well, the bed seemed rather hard and only one pillow each, the next morning we explained and requested extra pillows which they were only too pleased to give us, it made a world of difference, after that night we slept like a log. There was a lift that did breakdown one morning, the staff were very apologetic and on our return later that day it was fixed. Although it was only a continental breakfast you could have as much as you liked and we found it to be quite ample. The reception staff were very helpful and informative. It was close to metro and bus termini also bus's could be caught just round the corner, also bus tickets were bought from the tobacconist that was next door.It was within easy reach of trevi fountain, spanish steps and not too far from the colosseum. We would recomend a trip on the open top bus tour no.110 which goes round all the sights and to vatican city you can hop on and off as you please. We had a very good holiday especialy my wife who thought rome was wonderful, we saw it in sunshine, cloudy dull and rainy days also at night time when places were floodlit. There was so much to see and do with a comfortable hotel to return to at the end of the day. Be brave crossing the roads make it clear you intend to cross the road and go for it, the traffic will stop but if you hesitate it will not. Be aware on public transport as you can be squashed in like sardines we were warned to be aware of pick pockets. Only downside is if it rains it rains really heavy and EVERYONE has umbrellas, so take a plastic mac with you as there are far too many umbrellas, but when the sun shines it is glorious.

All over, everything was as expected. Only drawback was that the hotel lies at the end of a one way street. The taxi driver took the long way up to the start of the four fauntains street instead of going directely to the corner of Nations street. thereby doubling or tripling the taxi fare. I short notice in the information to future guests might be an idea.

Small nice hotel with very friendly staff and good service. Location is excellent for exploring Rome by foot or public transportation. Price is (relative to other hotels in the city) fair. Very likely, I will stay at the same hotel, should I travel again to Rome.

Great location and helpful staff. Large room with large bathroom (small shower a bit of a problem) Beds were hard but for the price, location, breakfast and staff, Zara is hard to beat.

Close to Termini railway station, which was fortunate as the taxi drivers were on strike the day I arrived. This makes it a bit of hike to many of the main tourist sights however. Rooms suprisingly quiet given the hotel's location. Mine was right at the back. Staff welcoming and helpful. Bathroom a good size for a hotel of this class, but bedroom a bit small. Breakfast disappointing - coffee was horrid.

The hotel Zara was a real gem of a hotel. the staff where all helpful and friendly. The room I stayed in was great in looks and facilities just a little small. The only down point was the flower sellers at the trvi fountains

Centrally located hotel. Fantastic for all the sightseeing. Very simple breakfast. Hard beds. Great value for money considering location.

Overall, good value for the money. You could easily pay two to three times more for a fancier hotel. The three-star rating is perhaps a little generous. This accomodation is very basic, which is sometimes all one wants. Contrary to online description, there are no laundry facilities and irons are not permitted. The beds were like cement; however this bothered me more than it bothered my husband. The staff was very helpful and responsive. They moved the three of us to a larger room the second day and they padded the mattresses with blankets. They really did go to lengths to ensure our comfort. I would have to say that, despite the initial disappointment, we became quite comfortable in the room. The air conditioning worked well and the bathroom facilities were just fine. Try to avoid the lift, which malfunctions. This hotel was very well-located both for walkers and for subway-riders. J Corcoran, Canada

The room had bugs and I mentionned it to the reception the first day, nothing was done. I mentionned it again the second day, they sais they had taken care of it but nothing was done. I asked to change rooms. The third day, when I say that they were not going to change my room and the problem persisted, I informed them that I was going to leave. It was fine with them. The overall experience was less than acceptable. This hotel should not be reffered, especially when there are a lot of hotels in the same area with more quality and better prices.

Good location down the street from Piazza Barberini and not too close nor too far from Termini train station. Thought rooms would be a little nicer from the photos but they weren't too far off. Plenty of space for luggage and clothing. Clean. Decent breakfast in a nice, well-lit room. I would stay there again.

Only two complaints: they do not use the air conditioner until June 1st and the bathroom is ridiculously small (as in the shower is just a curtain in the corner of the bathroom). The continental breakfast was great and there is a small market next door which was nice.

The way from station termini to the hotel by bus should be described (bus line to bus stop in via nazionale) becouse we had to pay too much for the taxi (20 Euros).
