Hotel Villa San Pio - Rome

Our overall stay was very unimpressive. It's far from the train and public services and takes too long to get to the tourist sites. The staff were unhelpful and dismissive. After travelling around Italy for nearly a year, this has been the most dissatisfying stay we've had on all our travels. The hotel is set in a nice quiet neighbourhood, in a residential area and the hotel was clean, but they only provided a wrapped soap bar in the bathroom. Breakfast was stale and the staff acted like they were doing us a huge favour every time we asked for something.

Hotel located in very quiet and peaceful area, yet walking distance of some major monuments (Circo Maximo, Forum as well as Metro Pyramid : 10 to 15min away from hotel). Rooms are large and comfortable, with great common areas (considering Rome is a large European city, we were positively surprised) * Note: WiFi access was not possible from our room, yet internet access cable was available for computer (restrictive for smartphones and other wifi devices)

Excellent location. Quiet place in the city centre, close to Trastevere and Circo Massimo.

Hotel Pio is an oasis of peace and calm in the heady and hot chaos of Rome.It was divine to be able to come back here for a few hours each day before heading out in the evening.Plenty of bars, ristorante and the infamous 'Gelato' geleteria just at the bottom of the road (prices much lower than the city centre) Situated between the Metro stops of C.Massimo and Piramide nowhere was difficult to reach in a short commute. Located in an interesting area with lots of off beat places to discover and only half and hour on the train to Ostia Antica.Fantastic buffet breakfast. I have no hesitation in staying here again or recommending it as a great place to stay. Ciao.

This was our first visit to Rome as a couple. The hotel corresponds very well with the information and photos on the webside. A very calm and beautiful area and it feels good coming back to Villa San Pio after a busy touristday. The personel always smiling and happy to make the best of your stay.

I appreciate very much this hotel, and I recommend to everybody. The only negative point is the size of the bathroom.

Wonderful front desk staff; quiet, clean rooms; excellent breakfast buffet, excellent service. Close to Testaccio but if you don't know the area it's hard to find the right place to eat.

The hotel buildings and the surrounding area were really nice. The staff was kind but some of them gave me somewhat confused information as to bus services around Rome.

We stayed at Villa San Pio for the 2nd time and was most impressed again by the staff and the hotel itself. Our friends who joined us were more than thrilled with our hotel, they were amazed how large the rooms were. We had dinner in the garden, the prices were reasonable and the staff were fantastic.I Highly recommend this hotel. It is in a very quiet area in Rome which is very hard to find in this busy , noisy, city.

We stayed in three different hotels while spending seven nights in Italy -- two separate stays in Rome and one in Venice. The Hotel Villa San Pio was easily the best of the three hotels. Very nice! A very well-kept property, beautiful grounds, largest rooms, a/c that WORKED (!) during a 39 deg C spell. Great breakfast, large bathroom and bedroom, internet was flawless -- overall, a very good stay and highly recommended. The staff were friendly and helpful, assisted us with transfers etc, places to see. The only negative is that it is not in the center of "everything" in Rome, but it FAR makes up for that in being only a 5 minute walk to Metro on Marmorata and a 20 min walk to the Colosseum. If we come back to Rome, we will DEFINITELY stay here agai -- highly recommended!!

We spend a very nice time in this hotel. The place and the garden are quite and beautiful.20 min far from piazza del campo(by feet). The personnel is very kind. Very good adress!!! Thank you.

Beatiful hotel in a nice quiet neighborhood location, but within walking distance of many sites.

The restaurant is good - small but excellent menu, good wines. Competent, professional staff - can give advice and discuss menu. Breakfast is also good for Italy. On the whole, excellent experience. Availability and prices through Venere.com the best; anywhere else much higher or no rooms available

Excellent hotel in a very quiet and beautiful neighborhood but also convenient. Easy access to sights and public transportation.

Lovely hotel and grounds. Only disappointment was the inefficient air conditioner in the room. Made for some hot sleeping. The electric fan I borrowed from the front desk helped and the staff was quick to provide one the first night. I've already recommended the hotel to other travellers.

MUY RECOMENDABLE El hotel tiene excelentes instalaciones. Las habitaciones son muy amplias, confortables y están totalmente equipadas. El buffett del desayuno está bastante bien. Otra ventaja es que el parking está incluido en el precio. El único inconveniente está en que hay que caminar 20 minutos hasta la estación de metro más cercana.

Love this area of Rome! The hotel is a lovely clam oasis close to everything... ( I call a 20 minute walk close though )

Comfortable old, villa style buildings. Enormous, airy rooms with antique furnishings, but very comfortable beds. Staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. Aventino is away from the main tourist areas and the better for it. Some fine tourist-free restaurants nearby. Ask the desk and bring your phrase-book.

Villa San Pio is a charming hotel located in a lovely residential area. The staff is very pleasant, professional, and helpful. I would most definitely stay there again.

We knew this hotel was expensive but for our last night in Rome we wanted something special. And this was it. We had a lovely room with a huge outdoor patio with lemon trees in giant pots and ample outdoor seating. The restaurant and food was lovely and having breakfast included in the price was an added bonus because we were not expecting it. A lovely hotel in a beautiful setting.

The waiter- at the bar and doing so much else besides-I wish I could remember his name, was wonderful! always smiling, always helpful,he remembered my sister from the previous year- the perfect blend of friendliness and efficiency. After booking a triple room, and seeing the web picture, we thought it would have 3 beds,and were disappointed to be offered a double plus single- the receptionist offered to split the double from next day, but agreed to do it the same day when we asked. So next time we would specify our bed preference to avoid confusion. We would definitely return to the San Pio. The setting is lovely, the atmosphere calm and restful. Our room was pleasant, clean and well-appointed, with a good marble bathroom and a powerful shower.

Very nice hotel in a quiet residential area. A walk to the nearest underground station takes only 15 minutes, a walk to the Colloseum around 30 minutes. Bocca della Verita and the Forum Boarium with the temples of Hercules and Portunus also 15 minutes away. Nice, spacious and stylish rooms. For dinner, local, inexpensive tavernas with excellent, plain local cusine are only a 10 minutes stroll away, close to the Pyramid of Cestius (you can rely on the hotel's recommendations, they do work). Breakfasts are served in a beautiful garden with a conservatory - a nice beginning of the day. We will definitely stay in this hotel again.

We stayed here for 4 nights on a travelling honeymoon around Italy. This is a nice hotel, but we found some of the staff, especially behind reception a little stuck up and not very helpful, that said the hotel porters always had a smile on there face and were always very helpful. Breakfast was very good, typical continental style with a good fresh selection. Location is okay, you are 5 minutes from nearest metro and 10 minutes from Colleseum, however I wouldn't stop here again because I would prefer to be more central next time (you are at least half an hours walk to central rome which isn't a concern first thing but becomes tedious at the end of a days sight seeing). Overall a nice hotel only let down by some indifferent staff.

Very affordable hotel in Rome. Rooms were spacious, breakfast was nice in the outdoor garden. Location is in the Aventine Hill neighboorhood which is very quiet but a 10-15 minute walk to Circus Maximus/subway and further for other sites. If you don't mind walking a little this place is hard to beat in Rome.

We reserved two rooms for two couples. Each was beautifully maintained, clean and quiet. We were within a half hour's walking distance to the Colesseum and other points of interest. The breakfast room was lovely, the food was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Rome.

We had a wonderful stay at Villa San Pio. The location was ideal for us as it was in a beautiful, residential neighborhood so we didn't have to deal with the crowds every time we walked outside but was still close to all of the action. The rooms were spacious (by European standards) and the bathroom was immaculate. And our room overlooked the garden which was gorgeous. But the best part was breakfast each morning. It was like sipping coffee and eating pastries in a perfect oasis. We would definitely return to Villa San Pio and will be recommending it to our friends.

The hotel restaurant was surprisingly romantic and the food they served there was the best Italian food we've had in Italy and in the world! The restaurant was so popular that it was difficult to book a table there.

This was the Hotel I choose to stay in for my wedding. The only real issue I had while staying in this Hotel was I requested a cab for a friend from reception and was advised it would arrive in 10 min's. A cab did arrive then and off went my friend. 5 min's latter when I was in my room the phone rang, it was reception advising that my cab had arrived. I explained that my friend was already in the cab to which the receptionist advised that my friend had taken incorrect cab and that I must now pay a €8 no contact fee which infuriated me. After I reluctantly paid I found out that reception are supposed to give you a ticket that corresponds with the number on the side of your cab....Lets just say I got my money back! This however did not in anyway tarnish our stay. The same receptionist then upgraded our room to a rooftop room with a beautiful balcony and a bath which is a rarity apparently on the rooftop. In closing this is a 3star hotel but in my opinion it is 4...food, staff & rooms speak for themselves and the area is a quiet residential area that was perfect for me.

The stay in Rome was 6 days. Quiet even birds were singing in early morning, especially the garden between the building and the entrance is excellent. A professional staff with a lovely tone.

We were upgraded to a Superiour room as all the standard rooms were full. Room and Hotel was beautiful - a reall calm relaxing and enjoyable experience.

When paying fore our stay in the hotel we found out how expensive the Bar and Restaurant were, compaired to the prices in generel. Everything about 50% + No wounder that we were the only ones who had a couple of drinks there every day. Not a place where you meet new friends. We had a lot of nice meals in restaurants near by. Hotel restaurant can not be recomended.

This is a good place to stay..

Both triple rooms we stayed in were in need of redecor. Bathrooms were both not practical for 3 people. Beds were good, TV's tiny little things that were very old.

This hotel was wonderful. They even made restaurant reservations for us in advance of our stay. And our room was huge--probably the largest I've had in Europe--with a balcony with a lovely view. There was a short walk to all public transportation, lots of restaurants, and shopping. I would recommend this hotel without any hesitation.

Great hotel and location.

I thought the price was a little high for what you got. The room was adequate but that's about it. There was no place to put things that couldn't be hung up (no drawers) so we ended up living out of the suitcase. The staff at the front desk were great. breakfast was nice. My only real complaint is that there was a problem with the shower flooding (and I mean flooding) the bathroom due to improper chaulking, reporting it that morning and nothing being done about it when we came back late afternoon. Talking to the manager before we left for the evening got it fixed while we were out that night.

Staff was only marginally helpful and seemed to have an "attitude". Location to major sites was at least 20-25 minutes away (walking). Restaurant was very good but breakfast was medicore. Rooms need updating. Staff needs some way of explaining how rooms lights and TV work. Elevator was not working one day (we were on the 4th floor) no immediate concerm from the front desk. The room had a musty smell. This was our 2nd trip to Rome and 4th trip to Italy. Other than the front desk the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Very nice staff. Nice breakfast buffet in mornings. Hotel is some distance from all major tourist attractions. 20 minute walk to Circus Maximus but that is the very outskirts of most historic sites. Rooms we stayed in did not begin to resemble the description provided in various brochures and website. Room was large but very tired. Beds were as hard as a rock - truly not conducive to sleep. The "sumptuous decor" described on the site must have been in other rooms - certainly not ours. We got by - but for the money and condition of the rooms I would never stay here again.

A very nice place. They had a fabulous breakfast every morning that was the best we encountered in Europe! The hotel was conveniently located to the train station and downtown. It had a bath-tub in the bathroom.... a small little balcony with a table and two chairs. We loved it!

A very nice hotel in a quiet location in the Aventine

We stayed in a great room - very large, and had a very large terrace all to ourselves. It was a ways out of the city center, so it wasn't really convenient to return to the room mid day, but the quietness of the location and the hotel staff more than made up for this slight inconvenience.

This hotel is truly a beautiful Villa. We had 3 rooms and 2 of them had wonderful patios and beautiful views. We loved the continental breakfast and the dinners were excellent too. We would love to return to Italy just to stay at this hotel.

The Villa San Pio is located in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of the coliseum. The breakfast and drink staff was excellent. However, the front desk staff was not very friendly, welcoming or accomodating.

An excellent hotel for a very good price. The rooms are quite large and kept excellently clean. All the staff are friendly and do their utmost to help you. Villa San Pio's location is also excellent - very near the Circus Maximus and Collisseum, although it is a little difficult to find at first from the metro. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again.

My wife and I spent 3 nights here in Sept 07. It is a very quiet hotel in a romantic setting just outside the city centre. The upside of this is that we found it very peaceful to escape back here each evening after the hustle and bustle of the city centre, the downside is that there is not a huge choice of nightlife/restaurants nearby. However dinner in the hotel restaurant is not to be missed. The service, food & outdoor setting is fabulous. The hotel is about 5-10 mins walk to nearest underground station but if you are fit and happy to walk, then 30 mins will take you into the city centre. Highly recommended and we would certainly stay again.

We had three wonderful days/nights in Rome & really enjoyed our room, terrace,breakfast in the garden and the area where we were staying, so convenient to buses & trains, so quiet & safe feeling. We have recommended the hotel to many friends, the best hotel we have stayed in ever I think.

We enjoyed the fact that it was in a quiet neighborhood and we could sleep nights. Also, we liked the breakfast in the garden setting. It was only a 10 minute walk to the Colesseum and 5 minutes to the subway. The staff was very helpful in answering our questions and getting any cabs we needed. We plan to go back and will stay there again.

Great quiet location away from the noise of the centre of Rome, but only a short (5 Euro) cab ride or metro to the centre. Great restaurants in Testaccio (which is a 5 minute walk away) recommended by the hotel - not tourist traps, great food and well patronised by the locals. Interesting deli's and local market too.

Nice hotel with friendly people. the breakfast buffet was really good with cereals, pastries, eggs,ham,etc. The surrounding of the hotel and the little patio were lovely. Quiet room with mini bar, jacuzzi bathtub and television.

Spent three nights in Villa Santa Pio. Nice, cosy hotel in quiet part of Rome. Pretty close to city centre even by feet. We did it every day (15 minutes walk to Colloseum).

Villa San Pio is located in a quiet upscale neighborhood of Rome that is very close to the downtown area - but you would never know it. Easy access to central Rome via Pyrimade Metro stop. Easy walking distance to Colosseum and Ancient Rome area. My family and I loved our stay at Villa San Pio. I strongly recommend the hotel.

It was our honeymoon and we really enjoyed this charming hotel. Having breakfast in the superb garden was gorgeous and a relaxing begining for the day. This is a very romantic hotel away from the busy city. The staff are very helpfull and smilling.

Why is the restaurant open only until 10.00 PM.

This was a charming hotel in the ourskirts of Rome. We did have a very had time finding it and had to stop several times to ask directions. It is not located in the "tourist" map part of Rome and even though we had a fairly good map of the area we were not able to find it. After driving around for a while, we called the hotel and were told to stay where we were and they would come to us. Now that is service! Shortly, the bell hop came running down the street and we were there in minutes. The hotel is located in a quiet residential area but within walking distance to resturants, etc. We took cab to the Vatican City and the historic areas, but I am sure there are buses nearby. The beds were great and the rooms very nicely decorated. If I had any complaints, it would be the size of the rooms. There was no place to put anything. The night stands were too small and there was no place to put toilet items in the bathroom. We had a lovely balcony and enjoyed a glass of wine in the evening before retiring. Wonderful breakfast - the best we had in Italy, was served in the atrium or garden. We were three generations traveling together and they even had our rooms together.

The hotel is hard to find, but just keep the map the front desk will give you with restaurant recommendations--and use that to help taxi drivers get you home. They seem to know the affiliated St. Anselms so that helps as well. Be sure to walk up the hill and look throught the Key Hole to get a truly remarkable view of St. Peters--particularly at night. The hotel was clean and quiet. The bed was comfortable and the bath was spacious. We even got upgraded to a room with a balcony without making the request. The hotel was very helpful with recommending restaurants and setting up a taxi to the airport. We hope to have the chance to stay here again!

This was a poor hotel for the price. The room was in need of refurbishment- the safe was broken, towel rail in the bathroom broken, toilet seat broken and despite raising all these issues at the start and on subsequent occasions (we stayed foe five nights) management did nothing to either repair the faults or offer a change of rooms. The hotel is poorly located for tourists in a residential area and is a longish uphill walk from the station. I could not recommend this hotel for the price.

Nice relaxed hotel in a pleasant and quiet neighbourhood.

Gracious, quiet and secluded hotel, yet within reasonable walking distance (20 minutes north) to Circus Maximus and just beyond that the Coliseum and Forum. Or head downhill (south) to the Via Marmaorata and catch the #23 bus to the Vatican (1 euro purchased at the tobacco shop on the other side of the street from the bus stop. The eating area is fantastic - garden like setting, very relaxing, assuming by now they have eliminated the yapping dog next door. Price vs accomodations were comparable to similar hotels of the same class. The rooms are wonderfully decorated. The breakfast meal is OK, evening dinner at the restaurant pricey but excellent. Other restaurants are about 20 minutes away to the south and east on Viale Aventino. We like to walk, so a 20 minute walk for us is very enjoyable. I've noticed other reviews that consider this a strenuous hike. Whatever. Certain front desk staff can be a challenge to work with, while the other staff are excellent. Internet service is available but be aware that the charge is for elapsed clock time, not used internet time. Overall a great value.

A great value and wonderfully located. Ten minute walk to Metro and walking access to central Rome. Quiet hill location in tree lined street.

Hotel Villa San Pio is a property on the edge...To explain what this means, you can look at the hotel in one of two ways. At one level, it is an absolute little jewel, hidden away in an oasis of calm within a kilometer of Rome's central sites. You could say that - with swift attention to one or two small deficiencies - the hotel would enter the premier league of major city properties which solve the quality / cost equation. By the same token, if deficiencies persist - and one or two additional negatives arise - the Villa San Pio could tumble down the ratings and become just another "nice enough" hotel indistinguishable from the general run. For now, let's give the San Pio the benefit of the doubt. Let's talk about the beautifully-appointed rooms and marble-clad bathrooms, the sense of calm luxury and of tranqulity beyond the cocktail of pollution and noise that is Rome. Let's not dwell on the non-functioning jacuzzi feature in the - otherwise - Emperor-class bath (not just ours, but at least two other guests' rooms). For now, let's talk about the truly friendly, customer-focussed staff....from the ever-smiling chamber-maids to the wonderful restaurant staff, exemplified by the excellent Agapito, a genuinely nice, but professional person: Every hotel should have one. Let's pass over the one member of the reception team NOT "on message". Let's talk about the lovely dining room, breakfast canopy and terrace, and pass over the tendency for the efficiency in the restaurant to evaporate under pressure of numbers.(Possibly because the food is rather good and helfpfully priced). Finally, let's marvel at how close Hotel Villa San Pio could come to being the perfect bijou tourist hotel in one of the world's truly great cities. We loved our four nights there, as did our "touristed out" 11-year-old son. On a future visit to Rome, we'd head straight for the Villa San Pio (No question!) But by then, we'd hope that the plumber had attended to the jacuzzis and

Loved this hotel and would recommend it to anyone. We were actually upgraded to it's 4 star sister hotel behind it, The Anselmo. The room was quite small, so you have to be organized with your luggage . . . but it was really beautiful and made up for the size. It's in a quiet area on Aventine hill among embassys and some of the loviest churches in Rome. I found it to be great value if you like the upscale boutique style hotel.

Hotel in a nice location. Staff very welcoming and helpfull. Bed was a touch unconfortable but compared to other hotels in rome, a small price to pay.

In a quiet area. Room size ok, average. Ours was in front street with small balcony overlooking front street. For the price, however, we were shocked at the ring of mold in the tub/shower--all the way around. A hotel costing $US300 should not have this. We told reception about it as we were leaving, they said "sorry". Would not stay there again for price. Otherwise ok.

If you want a stylish quiet hotel, would recommend Villa San Pio. Very pleasant small gardens (perfect for breakfast on warm mornings), but still not far from all the key sites. Ancient Roman sites in particular very close, but would recommend early breakfast to beat the queues at the Colosseum if in peak season. Other sites further, but still mostly within fifteen mins on public transport or taxi. Price seemed OK in comparison to London, but sure there are better deals around in Rome.

We enjoyed our stay. Hotel convenient for MET.RO Noise mentioned above referred to noise coming from room above. It sounded like children playing chasing games. They were not running on tiptoe . They were clumpimg. I believe this room had access to terrace. The noise made our room vibrate. Dining room lacked atmosphere. It was too quiet and un Roman. Some music would have helped. Also the food we wanted was unavailable despite the fact we had booked dinner. We ate out after first experience. No British newspaper-- only American

I've stayed at the Villa San Pio a number of times and it has always been lovely. The location on the Aventino is beautiful and quiet, the hotel is very comfortable and welcoming -- and extremely good value for money. It's definitely my first choice when staying in Rome!

Wonderful roman villa in the middle of Rome!We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to come there again. Not to comfortable to reach with public transportation, if there is no rain it's possible to walk to the metro-station, if you have problems to walk, calculate a cab (wich is quite expensive).

As a frequent visitor to Rome (at least one trip a year, sometimes more) I have been staying at this hotel for over 10 years now, and will continue to do so. It has been continuously upgraded, and is extremely pleasant. It is also very convenient for persons with business at the UN agencies (especially FAO), as well as for proximity to the ancient monuments.

This is a superbe hotel. It's located in a very nice neighborhood, quiet but not too far out of the centre. Buses and metros are only 5-10 minutes walk away. We stayed 5 nights at this hotel and we could easily have stayed another 5 nights. Especially the bed was very nice, very large! It is the first hotel I've seen such nice beds, really! I could have changed it for my bed at home. We payed 150 euro a night. The breakfast-buffet is very nice, everyone can find sthg, from fresh fruits and cereals to nice bred, ham, cheese... and superbe jam. This hotel is absolutely recommendable! Enjoy your stay!

Fantastic location and fantastic value for money. Only complaint would be the hairdryer in the bathroom! Make sure you bring your own!

High price for 2 sandwiches, a mineral and a coffee € 18- The meal was not as good as it should be.

My wife, daughter and I stayed 5 nights at delightful garden hotel in a quiet neighborhood away from the center of town. Room was beautifully decorated with stencilled paintings and window overlooking the peaceful garden. Restaurant excellent if a little pricey; breakfast bountiful and delicious. Be aware that the hotel is a good distance from most tourist areas. We used relatively inexpensive taxis with no problem. Public transportaton is about 15-minute walk away. Highly recommended!

I have stayed in the Villa San Pio on four occasions over the past two year with my husband. I have to say its one of the best hotels I have stayed in in Italy - full of charm. It's nicely removed from the city centre and we always found the walks from the hotel wonderful - just the time after a big meal. I certainly intend to return again.

Beautiful upscale hotel located in a quiet, lovely residential area. Bit of a hike from the metro with bags, and enough one-ways to confuse the local taxi drive, but otherwise stellar location! Superb, friendly service (they take your bags for you), lovely rooms, delicious buffet breakfast. It's all good. The only downside was that some plumbing behind the tub was leaking and "stopped" with towels on the floor; we can only assume full bookings as they knew about the problem. Once we were settled (i.e. no bags to haul) it was an 10 miinute easy walk to either metro station, which got us where we wanted to go. Highly recommended.

From my research on Rome hotels and especially those with free parking, this hotel has to be one of the best values. Its location is between two subway stops, but if you do a little homework on bus lines, from the metro stop, you can get to the bottom of the small hill near hotel, on the 716 bus. Travel by bus around Rome as much as possible because the views are great and it will help orient you. You can find a good bus line map in the bookstore at the main Termini Metro(subway)& Rail Station. Hotel neighborhood makes you feel like you are a local. You can get the 3 day Bus/Metro ticket at the Tabachi(tobacco) shop at the bottom of the hill on the street (Ostiense) that the buses closest to hotel, travel on. Breakfast garden room at hotel is such a beautiful way to start the day. Lemon and orange trees along the pathway to the glassed-in room. Concierges helpful. Good restaurants across the river in Travestere 5 Euros cab ride away. Concierge even found us a good restaurant near Termini Station open Christmas Eve. Vatican Museums have amazing collection beyond religious art -Etruscan, early Roman & Egyptian. Pay admission for the Palatine Hill and view entire Forum area from above. Lovely park and walk in the middle of the city. Time Out Guide Rome - helped for 4 night stay and top places to visit.

Un albergo eccellente, in una posizione eccellente. Non ha senso andare altrove, per alloggiare nella Capitale, se non qui.

We spent 4 nights in a double room and we felt very confortable. Everything was nice and clean, all the staff was kind and smily, breakfast excellent; we only have a little problem with the heating (too hot), we told to the reception and the following day it was fixed. We have already recomanded Hotel Villa san Pio to our friends. Thank you. Milena

We had an excellent stay at Villa San Pio and will definitely be staying there again! Very beautiful, clean, quiet, and in a beautiful area. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

My girlfriend and I spent a lovely weekend in this hotel at the end of October 2006. The location is a bit off, away from the main tourist areas, but precisely for that reason nice and quiet. Still, it is not too far and, if one is willing to walk a bit to the next subway station or takes the cab anyway, it is no problem at all. We recommend it to anyone who wants to spend the days exploring Rome, finish the day with a dinner somewhere in town, and then head back to quiet surroundings to relax. Those who want to enjoy Rome's nightlife and therefore stay closer to where the action is should consider hotels with a more central location (and possibly less comfort and quality for comparable prices). We would definitely go back to San Pio! The hotel has a getaway flair even in the middle of hectic Rome, and we particularly liked the breakfeast in the garden (although we missed it once or twice). The personnel was friendly and competent, and we have nothing to complain about. Well, that's it. I hope this chaotic comment helps at least a bit.
