Hotel Reviews Sole al Pantheon

Italy, Dec 2008
I am Italian, but I prefer to express my opinion in English to better spread the word. This was by far the best hotel we have been in italy! Besides being in front of the Pantheon, which is already enough, the structure, the history, the taste..... amazing. One of the greatest breakfast: incredible variety, freshness of the products, cosiness of the breakfast room, the way it is exposed. Confirmed also by my wife (from New York) who is quite demanding! Probably it has been the only occasion where she would not complain about it: that is something! Well done to all staff, in particular to Yo!!

This was our first trip to Italy and we visited the following cities: Venice, Florence, Sorrento and Rome. All of our hotel stays in each city was pleasant with the exception of the Sole al Pantheon in Rome. The receptionist at the front desk was not at all helpful. When I inquired of dining options and local transportation to the airport, all he wanted to do was push the services of partnering restaurants and businesses. When I presented him with my options, he either did not want to help, was not forthcoming with information or gave misinformation. The ladies in the breakfast room were very cordial. I was expecting at least that from the front desk. Overall, our room was just o.k., this was just a place to "crash". This hotel was indifferent compared to the other hotel stays while in Italy. I would not stay here again. -GD, USA

I got a very fine room (312 ), with view over Piazza Rotondo and Pantheon. The personal was very friendly. This is a perfect hotel for a single traveller in Roma. It is near everything, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi fountain, Piazza del Popolo and, and... Via del Corso and Via Condoti – for thou who want to shop or do some windows shopping.

This was a combined business/personal trip with 3 associates who had never been to Europe. It was a fabulous stay - perfect location - out the front door for gelato and sitting at the Pantheon. It was quiet with a lovely vacation and large (for Rome) rooms. I would DEFINITELY return.

Taxis can't go till the hotel. They leave you not far way, only about 10 meters. It's not a problem only if you are young, your luggage is just a bag and it's not raining. If all that happens, lucky you. Another thing: I've reserved a double superior, but when I arrived I was told they would give me an upgrade to a junior suite. Lucky me? No. It was a horrible room, dark, with no view. I didn't accept the kind offer. What happened? No double superior available. They offered me a full suite, but in a different building. My wife and I in a building, and, in a different bulding the hotel reception and the breakfast-room. Air-conditioning? Poor. Bathroom? Small. View to the Pantheon? Fantastic. We didn't sleep very well. Breakfast? In relation do other hotels in Rome, good. It was May, from 26 to 29. Warm.

I picked the Sole al Pantheon after reading several of the raving reviews about the views from the rooms and the breakfast bar. I also liked the idea of staying in such a historic place. In general, I have mixed feelings about this hotel. I feel that I paid an exorbitant amount of money for this hotel and in retrospect it seems too much. Initially I was willing to pay so much because I wanted a spectacular view, and for this reason I had booked the superior rooms, which guarantee a view of the Pantheon. Upon arrival, however, we were told that the superior rooms were not available and that we were given an upgrade to a suite in the annex buildings. Unfortunately, there is no real view of the Pantheon from the suite. It overlooks a small piazza to the side of the Pantheon, and only if you lean far out of the window, are you able to see a bit of the side of the Pantheon. Naturally, I was disappointed. The suite itself had two rooms and a narrow but functional bathroom (shower only). It is perhaps spacious for Rome standards, but it doesn't seem to have the comfort level of a room in, say, a Marriott in the U.S. I should add that the superior rooms also don't have a direct view of the Pantheon but rather onto the Piazza. You would need to look to the side to see the front of the Pantheon. I can say that the location itself truly is spectacular, and can't be beat. If location is your top priority, then this hotel is an excellent choice. I also thought the breakfast bar was really good, with varying items and good service. The interior of the actual hotel is very lovely, and you can feel the history in the building. Perhaps your stay would be worth your money, if you're lucky to get the superior rooms to the front, but as in our case booking these rooms, doesn't guarantee you get them.

Excellent hotel if you want to be right in the middle of Rome - however you must not expect too much space in your rooms, this is after all, Rome ! Prices were high, but again about par for the course and the hotel position. Our room looked right out on to the Pantheon, absolutely incredible ! Service excellent throughout, I would recommend it again to anyone with deep pockets

The room was not in the same hotel, but around the corner. The room itself was spacious and decorated as seen on the web, but it was not as conftable like staying in the same hotel specially for breakfast. In any case I would go back but I would specify for the room to be in the main structure .

Excellent location - ideal for all of the attractions. A surprising quiet hotel, given that it is on Piazza della Rotunda. Although a bit pricey, well worth it if you only have a short time in Rome and want to pack in as much as possible. Would definitely stay here again!

I stayed for one week in Rome. I highly recomend this hotel. Its location is perfect. Its easy to walk to all the sights of interest. The staff was very helpfull and serviceminded. The rooms are on the smallish side but since i only used the room to rest or sleep it didn´t bother me. More importantly was that the cleanliness and standard of the room were excellent.

A fantastic location and a very nice hotel, our room (a superior) was spacious, well cleaned and very comfortable. What's more we had a superb view of the Pantheon. Breakfast was lovely and served in an attractive courtyard. Only quibble was that the shower didn't work and despite asking several times didn't get fixed for our 4 day stay. However a minor moan really, we'd certainly go back!

One incredible bad situation : the night before going away I asked the concierge a taxi for the morning after to go to the airport. I got a car but ... unlicensed which asked me 55 euro instead of the regular, compulsory, fare of 40 euro !

I stayed 2 nights. The Hotel is very nice and very well maintained. Employees are friendly and helpful. Fantastic Location. Good Breakfast buffet. I was given a room separate from the main building (102) which although was big and clean, make me feel a bit unsafe because of the entry door which is a glass door easy to open from outside. Must say other rooms don't have that problem. A bit overpriced.

At check-in the woman was extremely pleasant and helpful as were the porters. At check-out the gentleman seemed as if we were bothering him. The location is perfect, just steps away from the Pantheon. The rooms were nicely decorated and quite clean. They were doing some sort of remodeling outside of our room so it was a bit noisy in the morning. A beautiful and romantic hotel.

The BEST part of our vacation in Rome was the location of this hotel! Walking distance to all the major sites. Coming back each day to enjoy the festive energy of the piazza was wonderful. The hotel is wonderful too. The staff is friendly and helpful, they all speak English. Get room 106 or 108 if you can. The view is amazing. Noise? once we closed the windows, the crowd downstairs became "white noise" that put us to bed after a long day of walking! No problem at all. I would tell everyone to stay here!!

For those who want to stay in the historic center, this is a very good choice. The rooms are not large, but the staff is very helpful. I would strongly recommend not bringing a car. Even for a veteran New York City driver, trying to get to the hotel is a nightmare. There is literally no 'good' way. At best, you can get within 150 meters and temporarily (illegally) double-park while the hotel's porter helps haul luggage. The garage the hotel uses is perhaps 500 meters away, which with all of the one-way turns down tiny alleys took about 15 minutes and 25 turns. It would have been impossible to find without the hotel porter sitting in the car giving directions. Take a plane/train and taxi! After dumping the car, my wife and I really liked staying here. Wonderful staff, and wonderful evening strolling.
