I was at Hotel Silla June 21 through 28, 2011, as a tourist in Rome. This strengths of the hotel are that it is very close to the subway and to the Vatican. It is very clean. Persons on the desk are competent in English and very helpful.

This was the first time I stayed at Silla. Very central location in Vatican City and around the corner from metro stop and shops and restaurants. Staff was helpful and courteous. Room was a bit small but very clean. Only downside was that there wasn't an elevator and had to walk up two flights of stairs.

There was some noise from a nearby courtyard in the evening but otherwise pretty quiet for Rome. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was small but quite adequate for a short stay, and the price very reasonable for Rome in high season. The location is ideal for the Vatican, and the metro station is very close by for access to the other main sights, station etc.

The staff at Hotel Silla were exemplary in their helpful attitude, excellent communication skills and general services. They helped us book things and were fantastic with general information. A delight to deal with. The hotel itself is perfect - fantastic location near metro and St. Peter's, and located in an apartment block set charmingly above a bakery - resplendent with fantastic baking smells wafting into our room in the morning. Ideal! Thank you very much. This was our second stay, and I am sure it would not be the last.

Perfect for a weekend in Rome. Very close to the Vatican but off the main roads. Not too much in the way of facilities but to be honest, we wouldn't have used them as everything we needed was just a short walk from the hotel. Not sure if it would have worked for a longer stay but we had a brilliant weekend and couldn't have been happier with anything.

A decent room at the edge of a nice area, not much else. There is a metro stop right around the corner and the Vatican is nearby. The Prati district proper is nice, but you've got to head a few blocks south and east to enjoy it.

We (a couple, age of 40)stayed for three nights at hotel Silla. The hotel is situated in central Rome and close to the places we visited. The room was small but we weren´t in the room that much except sleeping of course so this was prefect for us. Bring earplugs if you are sensitive to different sounds during sleep. Overall this hotel was perfect for us.

The room though small were sufficient as for the time we spent there to sleep. The bathrooms in the two room were very small, especially the showers, though we are regular sized people. The positive side of the the Silla was the staff. Also, its location to the Metro, and its 10 minute walk from St. Peter's.

This was the third time we have stayed at this hotel. The rooms are very clean, and the staff are very helpful and speak good English. The location is excellent - I don't know of another hotel in this price range that is so close to a Metro station. There are plenty of cafes in this neigbourhood and a reasonable number of restaurants. Supermarkets are a little harder to find. We always enjoy staying here. There is only one negative point - in the evenings you can sometimes hear quite a bit of noise from guests in adjoining rooms.

The beds were awful. We had a triple and the twin cot collapsed during the night and I banged my face into the side table. Walked around with a big cut on my face for the next 3 days. Double bed was equally uncomfortable. Also, the fact that we had to pay 10 Euros a day to use the air conditioning remote control was riduiculous as the room was very stuffy (the days were quite hot) without it. Other than that, the rooms are big and clean, bathrooms are nice (although our hair dryer was broken with masking tape wrapped around the hose - unsuccessfully!) Location is excellent and staff are very friendly and helpful.

My first impression about this hotel was “the room is extremely small, the bed for 0,5 person only not for the whole body”))) I guess that bathroom was bigger than the room was. The room was clean, but it was noisy outside because staff of the bakery (which was located down stairs in the courtyard) began to talk loudly and to sing at 7 p.m. Location of this hotel is really very good – 7 minutes from St.Peter ‘s Square and Vatican museums, everything is not far from there. Staff was friendly but there was one interesting detail: they forgot to meet me at the airport when I arrived to Rome. They confirmed that driver would be waiting for me there but forgot about it. So, I had to use taxi and it cost one dear. I think that the room didn’t worth 105 euros per night (excluding breakfast) which I paid booking on this site. It’s too expensive for 2* stars hotel like Silla. But if you are looking good location and you don’t expect any luxury, it will be good choice.

I was very pleased with this hotel. The room was small but spotlessly clean, quiet and well furnished (I was particularly glad to find 100% cotton sheets - too often even more expensive hotels have nasty poly/cotton bed-linen). The location is excellent for the Metro, the Vatican and St Peter's. The price (70 euros a night for a single with bathroom) is a bargain for Rome and I am happy to recommend this hotel to other travellers, with the small caveat that it is on the first floor of the building up a shallow flight of stairs, which may not suit everyone. Overall I thought it excellent for the price.

The hotel was very easy to find. The staff were were all very helpful and spoke perfect English. The public areas were were all very clean and quiet. Our room was adequate for a short stay - a 'quadruplo' where the fourth bed took up what would otherwise have been a comfortable amount of floorspace. The maid service was very good. A very good deal for the price we paid in February. We did not have breakfast in the hotel. There are a number of cheaper cafe/bar premises very close by.

As a female travelling alone,I was concerned about staying in an area close to a Metro station. Ottaviano metro station was just a few metres around the corner. At the opposite end of the street was the shopping street Via Cola di Rienzo. It was a short 5 minute walk from the Vatican. The room was basic but clean with its own bathroom. The option of paying a supplement for air conditioning was a relief during the hot July heat. The only concern is that this hotel wouldn't suit an elderly or disabled person as there is no lift and you have to carry your bags up flights of stairs. The managers recommended an excellent restaurant da Marco e Fabio Formichella which was just across the road from the hotel. I enjoyed my stay and I would stay here again if returning to Rome.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, great location. Near the vatican and beside the metro, lots of nice places to eat nearby. Single room was quite small and there was a bit of a whiff in the bathroom (but was very clean - a bit of a drain problem I think). Double room was very comfortable and spacious for Rome. Rooms over look a courtyard which was a little noisy in the mornings but not too bad for Rome I guess. The noise early in the morning was terrible-babies screaming and pounding of hammers (but that was just at that time). Staff NOT helpful. First of all the picture shown is not the reality. The taxi driver couldn't park in front of the hotel because of the massive park of motorcycles and cars. We were left at the next corner and had to carry our luggage up to the hotel. Next,we found out that there was no air conditioned in the room, we had to pay E10 more daily euros in order to have a mobile air condition which was turned off the minute we left the room every day and when we came back at night the room was a sauna. I can't believe that a city that receives so much tourism and is so hot and humid in the summer, cannot offer an air conditioned to the guests. Last but not least, the towels were tablecloths and the shower space was so small that you had to move like a robot. Only positive thing, it was very close to the Basilica, the metro and bus terminals and there were plenty of restaurants and coffee shops.

We were met with a very steely reception initially, though there were other staff later on who were nicer. The bedroom was pretty small, but clean and well kept. However the ensuite bathroom was pretty nasty, the floor flooded and the shower was mouldy (plus you really need a bath after trekking round Rome..)On the plus side, there was a hairdryer. I think at the price we paid, it should have been a lot nicer! I wouldn't stay here again.

However, our room, No.102, was right behind reception, which meant it was quite noisy as we could hear other guests returning at all hours, and I also had to ask the night porter to be less noisy - best request another room if possible, unless safety is your prime concern. The photos suggested that the hotel has a roof garden, which it apparently does, but it was not open during our stay. Overall though, a good location and pleasant hotel.

This hotel is a gem! I was so pleasantly surprised with the room and the service. The clerks helped us find wonderful restaurants, gave us maps and arranged for a taxi for our early flight out of Rome. I loved Hotel Silla and it's employees.

Can't be the location for both access to the Vatican and to the Metro (less than one block away). Quiet and safe neighborhood - we were very happy with the Silla.

We had a very pleasant time in the Hotel Silla, which is ideally located in a quiet area near the Vatican and tub(metro). We enjoyed our room although a little bit small for 4 persons, but very clean and very well decorated. Hotel staff was very nice and provided breakfast according to our wishes, as well as garage. The only drawback is that we could hear very well the neighbours, who made noise when coming back at night.

Hotel Silla was in a great location, near buses and metro. The hotel was quiet. Staff very helpful. The bathroom is small, but functionally. I would defintely book this hotel again for location and price.
