Excellent location. Clean, quiet and comfortable with good breakfasts. Easy walking to Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and lots of major sites. Vatican City further away but care needed on metro for pick-pockets. Would recommend this hotel for all age groups. A little dim in room for night time reading.

We stayed for five days in Rome and the hotel was excellent. Only the breakfast could have been much better with more varities in bread or rolls etc. But otherwise the hotel was great and we will go back there the next time we travel to Rome.

Although our room was fairly quiet and air conditioned, I found it to be very dark and drab. The breakfast area was just as dark (and terrible coffee). I was put off from the moment we were coldly greeted by the receptionist. She was not at all friendly and when I asked her a few questions, I felt as though I was inconvenincing her. The location near the train station was great but given the dark, depressing room and the chilliness of the receptionist, I don't think I would stay at this hotel again.

The rooms were lovely, the location convenient - our only real complaint was the quality of the breakfast (abysmal). Front desk staff speak English and are reasonably friendly.

The directions to get to the hotel from the train station were a little confusing. We got lost and had to backtrack a little bit. The staff was very friendly. After checking in someone took us up to the room and showed us how to turn lights on (using room key) and helped carry our luggage up. We were also given a free drink coupon at a nearby restaurant. Room was cozy and quiet. Bathroom was average size for Italy, and clean.

having been in rome often, this is the best three star hotel ever. very clean, quiet, large triple room, three minutes walk from termini, walking distance to all historical sites.called 24 hours in advance to cancel one day off my reservation without success, was very dissappointed, would stay there again anyway.

I especially like the hotel location and the room was very spacious compared with similar hotels that I had used in the same area. One of my best stays in Rome in hotels of similar category. Highly recommended.

We came to the hotel to find the room with the wet(full ofwater)and stinking carpet floor and no electricity. It took about3 hours of beging to have another room. There is only one elevetor for 4 floors and 3 hotels and when we came at night it was broken and we had to climbe to the 4th floor(like 7th in the modern bilding). It was broken the next morning too and we had to beg for the assistance with the luggage,it came only after I went down and made the man to bring us one of the bags. The manager was realy not a nice person.

We enjoyed our stay here. It was a bit difficult finding it based on the web directions. The breakfast was good, the people were nice, and the price was good for Rome. The only problem we had was when the elevator stopped working for 2 days. It's a long way up to the 4th floor.

Overall I was quite happy to stay at this hotel. The disappointing thing is I was not be able to stay at a room with bathtub. Although I requested via e-mail and on my arrival, my request was declined. The hotel explained there are not many this type of rooms. The room faces the street so that a bit noisy when I kept the window open. The price was not reasonable(a double room for single occupancy, 106 euro one night in May)as it was peak season. But the bed was confortable, the room was clean and spacious in comparison with another hotel near to Termini station where I have stayed at. Breakfast buffet was very good, especially Danish pastries. Also the left luggage service is very good; you can leave your luggages in your room on your departure date and just inform of the receptionist how many you left at the check-out. It was helpful.

This location was in close proximity to Termini. However, there was a hole in the ceiling, the TV did not work, the comforter was dirty and the shower drain was so clogged that the standing water was up to my calves when I took a shower.

The rooms were spacious enough for two persons but there should have been two chairs not just one.On the other hand the room was very clean and quiet. The breakfast buffet was very good. The hotel is located at a walking distance from the Termini which we appreciated and still the surroumndings were quite O.K.I stayed at Hotel Selene with my granddaughter(11 years old) and we both agreed that we would surely want to stay there again and so can recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to visit Rome.

The Selene is located close to the main railway station, junction of the 2 subway lines and a major bus terminus which makes it an ideal base for exploring the city. From here we walked to the Spanish Steps in around 25 minutes the around to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona then onto the Forum and Colosseum. Good bus route (No64) takes you to St Peters via the historic from the station. Hotel room a bit dark but very clean and bed comfortable. The bathroom and shower were adequate and clean. Good selection of food at breakfast. Staff extremely helpful. There were plenty of nice restaurants in the surrounding area and we felt quite safe walking in the area around the hotel at night. Would certainly use this hotel again.

I recomend this place to everybody, it is nice and close to everything It is indeed a very good bargain, for someone who goes to Rome to visit: the room was spacious, the bathroom had a good size, with a bathtub and everything.... indeed it had soap disspensers, but that was fine whit us; breakfast was very good, too. I don`t think anyone should have complained about the place if they had a good time in Rome, like we did.

Hotel was reasonably easy to find (with the help of a good map!)and location was good -about 15 minutes walk into 'Rome central'. Hotel is on 3rd floor (there are two other hotels within this building )and one day the lift was out of action which meant a climb up 6 flights of stairs (not ideal for elderly or infirm). Breakfast was excellent and staff very helpful. Would not hesitate to re-visit. Not sure of size of all the rooms - ours was adequate for two and bathroom with shower was good and kept very clean.

We stayed in this hotel twice this past month, once upon arrive in Rome and again just prior to leaving. The hotel is located near the Termini station and has quite a bit of street activity nearby. The entrance to the hotel is quite inconvenient when leaving the hotel since there was never a porter to help take luggage down a series of steps to get to the street. On check-in a porter did carry our luggage to the room. Our first room was old and less appealing than the second which appears to have been remodeled. There is no reception area attached to the hotel. In fact, it is a very tiny room located just next door to the entrance. We asked for a wake-up call for 6:30 and ended up getting one at 4:00. We can't be sure, but we felt that the young woman at the desk put the wake-up call into the computer using the wrong time since she was very impatient with us when we asked a series of questions about billing. There were 2 of us traveling together and we had wanted to have one night's bill on one credit card and the second night's bill on another. That was totally impossible as far as she was concerned. Breakfast was satisfactory. There were a couple of dry cereals, orange juice, coffee, tea, bread, cheese, ham, and yogurt. There was also some canned fruit cocktail with kiwi and apple added. Overall, we do not plan to stay at this hotel again. For the price (155 euro), we expected much more!

Great hotel, good location, would be nice to have internet access in the rooms
USA, Jul 2007
This hotel surpassed my expectations based on previous comments. We found a quiet, clean room with AC that worked, hot water shower, safe in the room and good location. The staff spoke perfect English and were very helpful helping me retrieve a lost bag at the airport. The breakfast was wonderful. Meats, cheese, croissants, toast, cereal, OJ, Coffee, yogurt, fresh fruit and more. The breakfast room was clean and for the money, I felt it was an excellent value. I traveled alone with my teenage daughter and we felt safe, even in the evening. My only complaint about Rome (and Europe in general) is that the US dollar is pitifully weak. Everything is incredibly expensive...very hard to find reasonable prices at restaurants. Note: you need to climb a short set of stairs to get to the elevator so wheelchairs would not work here.

Nothing special here. Spacious room with nice bath. Very close to train station, easy 10 minute walk. Typical Rome traffic noise honking cars, etc. A/C worked great. Breakfast was adequate. No lobby or bar. Rooms are on the second floor of a building with multiple hotels. Forum is easy 20 minute walk. If your looking for a hotel at a reasonable price yet close to the train station and tourist spots this hotel works.

I was very anxious of booking this hotel as I had some bad comments - But I dont know what these people were talkin about! I was delighted with the room very clean and decorated nice, maybe abit small (but your in Rome - how long to plan on spending in your room) The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke great english! It is within walking distance to all the main attractions and less than 5mins walk to the underground which brings you nealry everywhere in the city. I plan on going back to Rome before the end of the year and I will definitely will stay here again!!! Its very hard to find a nice cheap hotel in Rome but this one is perfect!

Hotel Selene was a wonderful place to stay in Rome. It was no more than 5 min. walking distance to the Termini train and bus station which made it convenient for getting places. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again when in Rome.

Recomendable

We stayed in Hotel Selene recently in Nov 06 for 3 nights. We found it to be a pretty decent budget hotel. We slept very well despite being in the very centre of Rome. On the plus side the hotel is very convenient to all the sites and the metro. It is reasonably priced(we paid €105 per night per room) and the room was clean and quite quiet, if a bit small. On the negative side the area the hotel is in is very built up and a bit grimey, but we found it fine at night. I also found that there was a lack of hot water in the morning and the breakfast was not as good as other similarly priced hotels I've stayed in. Having said that I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it. I suspect that in the very centre of Rome for this price you can't be too fussy!

Very nice hotel and good value for money when compared with other hotels in rome. We travelled around Italy and this hotel offered a very good service compared with other hotels. Perhaps the entrance area could be improved and the communal stairs was a bit off putting as we didn't know what to expect. Actual hotel area was very nice and clean. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Good location also - very close to train station.

Visited Rome with three friends in September. Hotel allows easy access to metro and train station, though it was a little difficult to find initially due to lack of road names. Had seen lots of comments about the area being seedy and not always safe, but we did not agree. Just typical European feel with need for basic common sense re safety after dark and awareness of pickpocket problem which apparently exists. Rooms were clean if not particularly large. One of our rooms was at the back of the hotel and was very quiet but quite dark. The other was at the front but traffic was easily blocked out by shutting the blind and windows. Reception staff were very helpful, calling taxis for the evening and advising where to go for good restaurants/bars. Not so easy to find taxis home again though! Breakfast was good with attentive staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend break, and would definitely recommend this hotel if you want clean, comfortable accommodation with easy access to the city. We will all be returning to Rome with our families in the future.

Booked the Hotel through www.venere.com for 6 adults and after sifting through a large number of hotels found that the Hotel Selene was reasonably priced, the location was within walking distance for most places, and the reviews were good. If you arrive by bus or Metro the Hotel Selene is only a 10 minute walk from the Termini. We were made quite welcome, we had asked for 2 twin bedded rooms and I double and we were delighted with the size of the rooms and bathroom. The rooms are sound proofed and with the double glazed windows and air conditiong you could get a good nights sleep.Breakfast was fine ,cereals, ham, cheese, eggs, buns and croissants. Tea, coffee in abundance. We would recommend the Selene and would come back again. We walked nearly everywhere and only used the Metro to get to the Vatican & St. John Lateran Basilica. It gets crowded at peak times but it is quick. SOME TIPS - 1 - TRY AND FIND OUT WHAT TIMES THE BUSES LEAVE CIAMPINO AIRPORT AND JUST GET THE BUS TO THE TERMINI (5 EUROS) 2 - ORDER A TAXI FROM THE HOTEL ON THE RETURN JOURNEY 3 - IF YOU USE THE METRO BUY YOUR TICKETS FROM A TABAC THERE CAN BE BIG QUEUES AT THE METRO STATION TICKET MACHINES. 4 - TRY EATING AT THE 'AL CHIANTI' VIA ANCONA BESIDE THE TREVI FOUNTAIN. GREAT FOOD. 4 - TRY 'CIRO' PIZZERIA'S THEY HAVE SPECIAL MENUS FOR 8 EUROS. GOOD VALUE. 5 - IF YOU SEE A GYPSY AND A BABE IN ARMS ON THE METRO, WATCH YOUR WALLET.GENERALLY THE RAILWAY POLICE WILL NOT LET THEM ON.

It was the first time we stayed at Hotel Selene and we enjoyed it very much. Breakfast was more than we exspected and the staff was very friendly and helpful. However, we would return to Hotel Selene for our next stay and recommend it to our friends!

I cannot recommend this Hotel enough, we had a party of 6 for 5 days and they did their best to get us rooms together. The rooms although they were small were more than adequate. There were a couple of points which let htis great hotel down - only minor issues though - the covers over the beds were stained, which looked really bad, but this is not a comment on cleanliness - just the cosmetic look of the covers, as the rooms were immaculate, the shower doors were a wee bit dodgy and the lighting in all of the 3rd floor bedrooms was dull and the entrance/lift really let the hotel down but these are really minor issues. The Hotel is so well placed for access to Termini/via Nazionale but is also in a really quiet area. However the real shining stars of the hotel were the reception staff - could they have been more welcoming or helpful? We were all very impressed and I would definately book this hotel again.

Selene is worthy of its rank. It is three blocks from the Termini. A safe walk through the late evening. Rooms were nice and clean. Shower was sufficient in size for a 250 pounder. Air conditioning, water pressure and temperature were excellent. Breakfast buffet was more than sufficient and nicely served. English language TV never worked during our 6 night stay, even though staff continued to say it would work tomorrow. Elevator worked most of the time.

This hotel is great. I thought that maybe it might be too far out from the main tourist attractions but as it doesn't matter as you are walking around all day anyway. The staff were very helpful and our room was much better than I thought it would be and excellent value for money. The breakfast was good, what you'd expect: croissants, bread, cheese & ham and very mice tea & coffee. The location is great, close to Termini and the subway and Via Nazionale (active day and night). However there were two things we were not glad about. One is that the hotel is on the third floor of a 4-story building and it is shared with 2 other hotels. The reception in on the street and is not communicated to the rooms (you need to go back to the street to go to your room). The other thing was that we found a roach in the bathroom, which we had to kill.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Selene very much. It was the week before Easter and we thought the value of the hotel for high season was very good. We had a nice size triple room, very clean and comfortable. The location was great, within walking distance to train and the attractions in Rome. We even walked to the Vatican which took about 40 min. There were many restaurants and shops within the immediate area. The breakfast room was lovely with a wonderful selection of fresh cut-up fruit, meats, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, cereals, breads and jams. Also great cappucino although it could have been a bit warmer. We Americans like our coffee hot! The clerk on our arrival could have been a bit more friendly but we did get in rather late (close to 7 p.m.) so I guess understandable. We would definitely go back to this hotel. Thank you for all the feedback from other guests.

The room far excelled our expectancy as it was recently refurbished. It was beautifully decorated with gold fabric wall covering and matching bedcovers. The deep blue carpet was also brand new. The window looked out onto a very quiet inner courtyard which was lovely and peaceful to come home to after all the loud noises of a big city like Rome. We were also thrilled to receive a free guide of Rome from the receptionist at The Selene (only hotel on our tour of Italy to provide this) especially after having just been robbed of one of our travel bags containing amongst more important items, our guide books. (Steer clear of grass verge infront of railway station - apparently we sat in most notorious place and the bag was gone in seconds whilst trying to read directions to the hotel). The bathroom was excellently tiled. Beautiful Italian style washbasin and I liked the idea of soap/shampoo dispensers at the side of the washbasin and shower. The breakfast room was warm and welcoming, well decorated and furnished. Food was plentiful with cold meats, cheese, boiled eggs, fruit salad, fresh rolls and cakes, fruit juices, milk and water. We were given the choice of tea, American coffee, Italian coffees and hot chocolate which were served to us by the waiter/waitress. The hotel was of very good standard and priced reasonably for a room in Rome. The entrance of it was welcoming even though there was no lobby as such, just a tiny reception and an enquiries room at the side of the entrance. We were also given a 10% off voucher for the hotel's restaurant in the next road which we can't honestly say that we were impressed with the food even though the restaurant was fairly busy. The only slight discomfort was the lift wasn't working properly but it was soon repaired. The hotel was ideally situated right next to the station which was a terminus for most buses including the tour buses. The Selene was certainly Serene!

There was work being done on the exterior of the building, so it was covered by scaffolding and was hard to spot from the sidewalk. Also, there were 3 hotels in the same building, on different floors, which was a bit odd. But overall, the hotel is fine and is pretty close to the train station.

Good Service, nice people. We had the first day a bit of trouble with a rain-leak in our room.. it was solved nicely by the staf by giving us an other room. (3 pers.)

Small but beautyful room. Problems are solved immediately. The breakfast-buffet offers a lot of varieties - germans will love it. We can recommend this hotel indeed.

Hotel location was good for us, as we were traveling by train--only a 5 minute walk to the rail station. Room and other facilities were quite satisfactory. The room was very quiet.

excellent value for money with friendly staff, adequate breakfast and clean rooms - the directions to the hotel would have been perfect had the bus not dropped us off outside the station terminal. I did report a faulty shower cubicle but nothing was done so we just removed it!!! Apart from that a lovely experience.

Selene is so quiet, I thought we were alone in the hotel. The location can't be beat. The only reason I gave "services and facilities" less than perfect was because I couldn't get the phone to work, not even to get to reception. The rooms are a tad small, but, hey, for Rome they are fine for the price. I almost hate to give them such praise because I want the hotel all to myself. Bravo, Selene!

FANTASTIC PLACE TO STAY. WITHIN A 30 MIN. WALK FROM ALL MAJOR SITES EXCEPT ST PETERS. CLOSE TO TRAIN STATION AND MARY MAJOR BASILICA. ROOM WAS NICE SIZE AND WE HAD A BACK WINDOW SO THE NOISE WAS TOLERABLE. WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN AND RECOMEND IT TO EVERYONE.

This hotel is really hard to find even in bright daylight! The hotel doesn't have a sign outside. The building has 2 other hotels also. It's clean and not tiny. It's a decent size room (maybe because it was a triple). The bathroom is REALLY nice and new. We LOVED the bathroom! The room is dim, not enough lighting. We were here for only 1 night. Breakfast was good (bruschetta, mozzarella, bread, coffee/tea, fruit, cereal. It's self-serve. It's NOT close to the train. It's a good walk, maybe 10-15 mins.

The hotel was very good. I think we was a bit unlucky and got a room who was a bit different from the others. In our double room the was only space enough for one chair and we could not use the table because og the situation of space in the room. But this did not cause any big problem for us

The reception area is not impressive as it is small, untidy and run down. The receptionist was not very friendly nor patient when we asked too many questions upon our first arrival. Fortunately the receptionist was always changing. The room and the breakfast room are comfortable and clean except that the bedsheets were not changed for 5 days(duration of our stay)! Breakfast spread were quite good compared to other hotels we stayed. What we like most is the location of the hotel because train and metro stations, a small open air market, a supermarket and many restuarants are all within walking distance. The air-conditioning was cold and working very well which was important as Rome was very warm during our stay there. On the whole we rate the hotel good.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Selene. It is very centrally located and grants easy access to the train station/airport. Because the room, though small, had been soundproofed we slept soundly. The bathroom was small, but very clean and modern. The breakfast was fine and the coffee good. We would stay there again, especially because the price was VERY reasonable for Rome.

The Selene was a very good value for the price. We stayed in a very large quad, lovely bathroom. The hotel was clean. Situated with other hotels in the same building, and due to construction, it was difficult to locate at first, but the directions given were accurate. The location was convenient to both the Termini station and the Metro. We were satisfied with the room and would return.

The Selene was a suprise to us. We kept reading about visitors who were not happy with hotels they found thru Venere. Except the fact that scaffolding was blocking our view (not that there really was a view) the room was awesome. It was large, the beds were a bit hard for our taste, the AC was FABULOUS. The windows were new and shut out most of the noise from outside, but cabs in Rome honk alot and there is nothing you can do about that. The bathroom and shower were awesome, the service wonderful. The desk is on the ground floor and the hotel on the 3rd floor, but they have a small lift available. The breakfast was more than you would expect with crousants, ham, cheese real orange juice, canned fruit and cereals and of course the coffee. You are more than welcome to e-mail us if you have any specific questions. Oh, and being only a few blocks from the train station you have available the 110 on/off tour bus and the subways right at your finger tips.

We stayed twice at the Selene over a 7-day period; once at the beginning of our stay and then at the end. We had 2 different rooms and they were equally great. The bathrooms were a nice surprise; fully equipped with shower/tub and very clean. The room air conditioning (this was summer and quite hot) worked very well. We were quite comfortable. The small elevator was an extremely pleasant surprise, as the hotel rooms are all on the 3rd and 4th floors. The staff were all very helpful and welcoming and did everything they could to aid us in our various needs. I would quite definitely stay there again, as not only was the room & service great, but the location is unbeatable.

A great welcoming hotel. Staff helpful, rooms basic but comfortable, although ours was quite dark due to the scaffolding and screen outside our window. Bathroom clean, and decor lovely, Breakfast okay, not much variation, but adequate. Would definately stay there again, and would recommend it to friends.

Although our sleeping room war rather small it could not dimisch our positive impression of the hotel Selene. The central location of the hotel and most of all the cleanliness and quietness of the room made our stay at Selene very enjoyable.

The web site does not overpromise ! We have already recommended this hotel to others. A point of attention is that the beds were quite hard - we preferred this but others may not. Good to know that a scooter rental shop is just across the street.

Rooms were clean (especially the bath) and welcoming were great. But one disadvangtage was the quietness of rooms. We only could sleep until seven and then wake up from the honk of the Italian cars. Also we've heard the neighbours of the next room. But I think that the price/performance ratio is really ok.
