PROs: Very close to the train station!!, easy to find, inexpensive, english speaking staff CONs: tiny room, shower curtain didn't keep the water in the shower, front desk insisted on cash payment (they said all italian hotels did that, except the other 4 hotels we stayed in! eventually they accepted our credit card), no wake up call despite request, no hair dryer in the room.

We were 4 sisters in a quad room. On arrival there was only 2 blankets for 3 beds. On request we were told by the receptionist she could not help us as she did not have access to blankets. Slept freezing with an cold aircon that we could not turn off. Also the place was covered in dust -obviously had not been cleaned for days. Even when we complaint and were promised a cleaning team, the place stayed filthy.Dust and dirt everywhere. Breakfast just a packet of toast and croissant with juice and coffee. Definitely not to be recommended. Only good thing the closeness to the train station. Never again. The worst experience of our tour.

I chose this hotel by getting the cheapest hotel near the station. It was certainly great value for money, clean, and I had the best sleep here. I had just come from a 5 star hotel, which will remain un-named. The breakfast was basic, but at that price, I could expect no more. Also, the staff spoke very good English, which I did not find in some hotels with more stars than Scott.

Perfect for Single Travellers/Young Couple. Hotel was VERY CLEAN. All the staff spoke English and were nice. Breakfast was simple, but good. Web states that hairdryers are provided--they are at the front desk, so don't forget to ask for this before your shower. *Same goes for the TV remote. The web also says it's 15 minutes walk to the train station and it's actually across the street! So it was literally a minute walk to the station...where you can pick up the metro or the buses. The historical center of Rome is only a 15-20 minute walk away. Overall, this is a great place to stay as long as you don't mind the rooms and furniture simple/non-extravagant. I would stay there again.

The first room was very small, but ok for the price. When we returned two weeks later, they gave us the appartment on the roof. This was probably the best bargain in Rome ever made, with a spacious terrace and a perfect bath room. The stuff was very kind and rooms were clean.

Do not stay in this hotel - it spoiled our time in Rome. Against the policy of Venere when we arrived we found that the price of the room had already been secured on our credit card but because the transaction had not cleared we had to pay again - in cash! The employees were the rudest I have ever met in all my time travelling. The room was freshly painted and covered with a layer of plaster dust. We were moved to another room that was FLITHY and had NO BED LINEN. I don't want anyone else to suffer this experience - there are lots of good hotels in Rome - this is definitely not one of them. Do yourself a favour book another hotel and enjoy Rome.

An excellent budget hotel. Very clean and staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms on the inside of the building away from the street are reasonably quiet. Rooms facing the street are more noisy. Bathroom whilst clean smelt a bit mouldy. The ventilation could probably be improved. The single rooms are quite small but the single bed is large. Really a three quarter bed. I would stay at Scott House again.

well, the room was basic, not big, but clean and quiet (backyard). There is space for improvement, meaning the furniture: The bed was not only hard, but the springs of the mattress were noticeable: Maybe turn over the mattress, cover or replace it! The outlet of the shower distributed the water all around, but not into the intended direction. Minor things Anyhow, the off season price for central Rome was very good, the simple breakfast with juice and and GOOD coffee was a nice extra. For small budget a comfortable stay.

Booked quadruple room 4 months in advance and stayed for three nights. Were pleasantly surprised wih the interior of the hotel on the 4th and 5th floors of the building.Very clean hotel room with bathroom and shower and safe for valuables.Good continental breakfast. Breakfast room a bit on the small side. Staff excellent and helpful.Free tourist map available at reception. Hotel has double glaze windows which limits outside street noise and airconditioning is included in price. Well located very close to Rome main stazione termini as well as undergrond metro and bus transport termini. Within walking distance from main sightseeing attractions such as Santa Maria Maggiore, San Giovanni Laterano (a must to see), Colosseum, Monument Vittorio and many more. Many restaurants in area with tables outside on street pavement. Will defnitely stay at this hotel again as it offers excellent value for money.

Room was clean and nice. Staff was friendly. Towels were changed every day. We had a room on the street side so it was very loud. Breakfast: 1 cup of coffee or tea, 1 glass of orange juice, prepacked (hard, typical Italian) bread, which I did not like very much, butter, jam. But we also got 1 excellent croissant or donut. This was the best of the breakfast! Location is very good, 50 m from Termini station, but as said already very loud surroundings.

We needed a room for 4 people which is hard to find in Rome. This was one of the few and was very reasonably priced. The people at the desk were so nice, spoke good English and generally wanted to make our stay pleasant. The room was a little sparse but all we wanted was a place to sleep for one night. The hotel is on floors 4 and 5 of a building in a great location right by the termini rail station and city subway system. Information on the internet led us to believe this side of the termini was not as good as the other side, which is more expensive. We stayed on the other side for 2 nights and it was not as good as this side. I highly recommend this hotel.

This was my first stay at Hotel Scott House and I was only there one night. For a European hotel in a major city just two blocks from the train station, it served my basic needs. The room was clean, my wife and I slept well, and the staff was able to give us a wake up call when needed. It was simply a very basic experience. The conditions were spartan and the staff did not go out of their way to welcome us as guests.

Rome is very expensive as a city and so you get less here for your money. So we weren't expecting luxury and this was a basic, though clean and friendly hotel. The rooms on the street side are horrendously noisy because of the constant traffic. The shower in the bathroom was efficient but so small you couldn't turn round! You could only have one cup of coffee with breakfast - we saw people actually refused a second cup. But the worse thing was on checking out. The credit card machine was faulty and they insisted on us paying cash. At the end of a 3 day stay, euros were in short supply - the ATM nexct door was out of order. In the end, they took all our Euros and took one night's charge off the credit card we had given to Venere. There was no apology or attempt to help us out, even though the fault was their machine. It left a bad end to a nice 3 day break. So, stay at Scott House if you want a clean, central hotel with no frills and take plenty of cash because they don't guarentee being able to accept your credit card! Incidentally, the Termini area isn't as bad as some people have indicated in these reviews - like all big cities, you just have to be watchful and aware.

Scott House takes your key when you leave the room. When you return to the hotel and you ask for your key back, there is no security whatsoever in making sure that a valid guest is taking the key. This is a security issue that should be addressed. Otherwise, the free breakfast was a nice perk. The concierge was very friendly, although some English skills were lacking. The rooms are small (they fit 4 beds into a room that looks like it should only fit 2) but adequate for the price you are paying. The walls are thin so noise was a bit of a problem. The central location, however, is unbeatable.

Arrived. Rang Bell. Greeted by intercom, I stated who I was and then waited for 10 mins for assistance. No one came to help with luggage so I rang bell again. I was told to come up. I stated that I needed assistance since I am handicapped and they are on the 4th floor. It was stated that there is a lift in the advertisement but there are stairs to climb before reaching the lift. When I explained this someone came down to help me.... After going to see my room which was very nice except the TV was too high up to view. A little uncomfortable for the neck. I proceeded to the desk to ask the whereabouts of a church that I had an address for. No one at the desk could assist me. I later found it on my own. It was very close to the hotel. A hotel worker should have known how to direct me there. Everything else about the hotel was very fine. All of the staff were very pleasant and attentive. One thing that was very annoying was that the daytime deskclerks continuously asked for payment of room every time they saw me. As if I was going to flee without making payment. "it must be their training" The breakfast served was very good and the staff very pleasant. The brakfast room was bright and cheerful. Tidy and clean. Location of hotel was very good. Close to all modes of transportation. Lots of restaurants all cuisines, souvenir shops and even a grocery store. However, I warn single travelers, beware do not stay out after 8pm. The hotel has a dormitory atmosphere, with groups of young people partying in the hallways until very late at night. Smoking is allowed in the hallways. Although I requested and received a non-smoking room, there was so much smoking going on outside the door that the room was filled with smoke. The hotel advertises Internet access free but does not have it available. The hotel advertises air conditioning but has it only when the entire system is on in season. Even though it was quite hot when I stayed there, it was not in season, which mean there was no way to cool the room. The desk staff tried hard to help out with difficulties, but most were new and received no training. One quit after a couple of days on the job because of the number of problems and no training or resources to handle them.-

The hotel says it accepts credit cards, but when we arrived they displayed a sign that said the machnine was out of order and they would only accept cash. The machine stayed "out of order" for our entire week, so I had to spend the week extracting euros from various cash machines, a big inconvenience. The breakfast is about as stingy as you can get and still fit the definition. Good central location and the rooms are reasonably clean.

Well I think on an overall basis - all hotels in Europe - particularly in Italy are expensive. Coming from the other side of the world, the price I have to pay in staying at a 2-star hotel in Italy during peak season is equivalent to staying in a 5-star luxury hotel like Peninsula, Hyatt, Mariott + a sumptuous dinner.

Breakfast was terribly organised first two nights. The system of paying Eur.5,00 in cash for your tv remote-control and paying back when returned to reception was poor, especially when they have your creditcard number.

As a group, we booked two separate rooms to accommodate seven. One room exceeded our expectations, one fell short of what we expected. However, the service was friendly and very efficient. I would stay again but discover more about the type of room being booked.

part of big building, with 8 hotels on 4 floors! Anonymous entrance, beautiful hall downstairs, apparently just to show off, because the rest of the building was old and worn out. Unfriendly desk employee who asked (urged) to pay cash in advance (credit card was only possible from 150 euro and upwards, he said (fiscal motives?)). I had the impression I arrived in a backpackers hotel in India..

I had a teriible time at the Scott house hotel. My luggage was missing from my room and ended up in thier kitchen trash can. some Items are there in trash an with other darty trash. There are no manager at the hotel for 2 nights that I stayed there. I requested to call hotel maneger or owner the hotel but the front dest did not even call. I can't believe how they treated me and felt awful. Specially I was single wome traveling, I could not do more. the hotel was a last stop for my 3 weeks in Italy made the impression of a bad experience. I never reommend this hotel.

My room was near the corner on Gioberti, but the windows and shutters provided a noise barrier that completely shut out the street noises. The location is convenient to the train station and the major metro terminal. All the personnel at the hotel were helpful and cheerful. I consider the hotel an ideal place for a single traveler.

The hotel was very easy to find, which was the best thing about it. We arrived early (11:30 am) and the room wasn't ready, which was completely understandable. The clerk told us we could leave our luggage and that the room would be ready at about 2:00 pm, which was also completely understandable. When we came back at 2:00, the room was not ready. She told us it would be another 30 minutes. It still wasn't ready then. FINALLY, the room was ready at 4:00!! I got the distinct impression that the maids didn't like us asking for our room (from the dirty looks they gave us) and they cleaned ours last. (Also, they did not leave us any toilet paper.) They wanted a deposit of 10 Euro for the remote, which was perfectly understandable, but they would not give you change if all you had was a 20, which was rediculous. They simply would not open the cash drawer to give change. The room was clean enough, but the bed was extremely flat, the pillows were so flat, they might as well have not given them. The shower head was malfunctioning and was a dribble that you had to position yourself under. The walls were paper thin and we could hear our neighbors leaving/arriving in the halls as well as next door. We decided we would check out in the morning and go to a different hotel. When we told them this, the visa machine "magically" wasn't working and we had to pay cash. Now somehow "magically" she was able to give me the change from that transaction. Also, they had told us at check-in that breakfast would be available at 7:15, but the next morning when we went to dine, they weren't ready and told us that it would be another 30 minutes. Gee, where had we heard that before?! Overall, the place was in total chaos, completely disorganized. They were very unfriendly, and the scam of the visa machine not working really topped it off. It wasn't the worst place we've ever encountered, but I cannot recommend it at all.

Although the actual hotel is divided between the 4th 6 5th floor of a "palazzo" is still easily accessible (there is a lift). The rooms are very simple but confortable with TV which has only italian channels...but then again one does not go to Rome to watch TV.Staff in reception is friendly.Inernet facilities are available for free. Location is very central and all the main monuments are easy to find from there. If your intention is to see Rome and not to stay in the hotel room then this is a good compromise. Is not luxurious but is very decent. The price was reasonable and included breakfast, but I suspect that in high season would have costed much more.Overall it was a good accomodation, simple & clean.

overall a very nice comfortable place to stay, we were given a quiet room although you could hear other guests coming in at night. The breakfast was ok however the staff serving it were VERY slow infact on a couple of occasions we waited so long for our coffee that we gave up. It would have been nice to have coffee making facilities in our room. The hotel is located several floors up and the lift is very temperamental which after a long day walking round Rome seemed like a real trek to get back up to your room. Our room was cleaned everyday and the overall cleanliness was good. Location wise it was great with easy access to the Metro. We would stay at Scott House again.

this hotel is near the station, so very good location. the staffs were kind and friedly. but only the shower was bad for us. It was just separated with shower curtain in the bathroom. and it was a little cool in the room. And I was surprised that we had to pay with only the cash. Anyway,I was satisfied that it was near the station and cheap.

We were looking for a budget hotel in central Rome, and that is exactly what we got. The staff was friendly and spoke English. Our room was waiting for us exactly as reserved, including a crib. The only negative aspect was the room was tiny (wall-to-wall beds) but what do you expect when putting five people in one room at this price. Overall, our stay matched my expectations, and I am glad to have found Scotthouse through Venere.

It is not easy to decide on the correspondence between web pages and actual property because I'm not familiar with hotels in Rome, don't know the market, therefore can't compare prices and quality. Anyway, your site is very helpful and, in fact, is the only one with such a great number of hotels in Rome and with all needed info on them. Thank you. Olga.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Scott House. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The surrounding area was noisy at all hours of the night but this was expected since it is so close to the train station...this problem was easily solved by closing the hotel windows. Overall, a nice hotel that I would recommend to fellow travelers.
