This was our second stay at this hotel. We were dissapointed that they had renovated the rooms and taken away the old world feeling...not to mention that it was also half the space we had before. If it had not been for the excellent rate Venere gave us and the wonderful location we would look for another hotel or make sure we had a larger room.

Hotel is perfectly located!! Small garden for drinks was a wonderful surprise. Folks at the desk not real friendly but rest of the staff very friendly and helpful. Very expensive but about typical for Rome.

The room was extremely small but clean and modern. The bed was very comfortable. The location was the best. The staff was not friendly at all. They need training in customer service. They do not want to help you

Couldn't have asked for a better stay at the Hotel Santa Chiara. Absolutely as promised, and I have no negatives to list. Everything was great. The breakfast was great - hard-boiled eggs, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, yogurts, apples, oranges, bananas, breads, croissants, cereals, teas/coffee. The staff was incredibly helpful to me, this truly was the best hotel I've stayed in, in Rome, after traveling there 3 times. Was a bit over the price range I wanted to pay, but really, the experience made up for it. Wonderful hotel!

choice of food at breakfast was very good, room was modern, very clean, exactly as expected from hotel website, surrounding area was safe, clean, good choice of eating places nearby, within walking distance to all areas of interest - very central. I would recommend this hotel.

I traveled to Italy with my parents (mid-70s) and my sister (early 50s) over Thanksgiving (2008) We were only at the Santa Chiara for one night but we felt it was a very elegant hotel. It's about a block behind the Pantheon. The rooms were spacious and the towels were fluffy. Our rooms were up on the fourth floor so they were away from the din of the street. We had to leave VERY early in the morning so I don't know what the breakfast was like. I would return to the Santa Chiara on a future visit.

The hotel is in a great location. Rooms are good and clean, but the whole experience is spoiled by the lack of friendliness. The front desk staff are polite, but not welcoming. The breakfast staff don't speak or smile at all!! Breafast is repetative and coffee awful. The only friendly person, who was great, was the guy who helped take the luggage out. I think the owner was there one day and he looked really stern with the staff, so they don't look a happy lot - the lack of friendliness spoils the exerience. With a different attitude this could be a great hotel

The wall of the bath leaked water, so you had better get over. I think that you had better clean the porch of the room a little more. The floor of the porch in particular. However, because a porch stuck to the room, a view was good, and the feeling was good.

La relación calidad/ precio es excelente, teniendo en cuenta la zona en la que está. Salvo el desayuno, que, por otra parte, no es malo, la habitación podría corresponder con la de un 4 estrellas (habitación y baño amplios, limpios). Recomendable.

While the hotel is in a very desirable area, for the price of the room I would have expected the furnishings to be that of a 1950's United States motel room. The linens were good quality but very plain. The noise level was incredible. They need to invest in sound proof windowss as have the other nicer hotels, like the Lacarno, that I have stayed at in Rome.

The Santa Chiara is one of Rome's best hotels. Its location alone would commend it and the service it offers is superb; the manner of the front desk is a bit cool, the elevator is slow (but it is installed in a very old building), and the breakfast fare is perhaps a bit too Teutonic. These quibbles nothwithstanding, I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Rome now, and over the last thirty years or so I have stayed in at least fifteen or so hotels there, including the Hassler. I recommend the Santa Chiara without reservation!

rooms were a bit 1970, but the bathroom was completely renovated. It appeared they were working on redoing other rooms. Location was #1 draw of choosing, and it did not dissapoint. Breakfast in the morning was helpful. All in all, for the price and the location, it was a good eal and can't complain.

This place was so so. The furniture in the room was from circa 1970, but the bathroom had been upgraded. The breakfast was hearty--with boiled eggs, which was a nice addition to the typical continental breakfast. On another occasion, we stayed at Hotel Barberini, which was a much better value. Skip this and go to Barberini instead.

We have been to Rome about 2 dozen times. This is one of the best bargains that we've encountered. We were traveling with a friend whose room was very quiet, but ours was not. This is typical of hotels in Rome especially. You may want to request a "quiet room" when you register. Our only real issue was that there are no "no smoking" rooms. Our room did not smell of smoke, but we would prefer a non smoking room.

This was the most luxurious of the hotels we stayed in on our trip to Italy - and the most expensive, but it was very nice and the ideal location. Located one block from the Pantheon and in the center of the "diamond" of Roman highlights (Vatican City, Forum/Colosseum, Villa Borghese, train station) we couldn't have been happier with our choice.

The hotel was recommended to us by a friend, and i would have no hestitation in recommending it to anyone else. The location is fantastic, with most major sights within 20 minutes walk. The staff are courteous and helpful without being too 'in your face'. The bedroom was spotless and the public areas of the hotel likewise. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice.

The property is centrally located in the heart of the old city behind the Pantheon. It is within easy walking distance of most major sights in Central Rome and near all major bus routes. The staff was very friendly and helpful and spoke English. The only small complaint I had was the compact size of my room. However, on my return trip to Roma, I was upgraded to a larger room at the same price as the smaller one. All in all, a lovely experience and would recommend this hotel to travelers seeking an unpretentious Roman hotel in the heart of Rome.

We were very happy to stay at Santa Chiara on our last night in Italy. It was comfortable, welcoming, quiet, and very well located a block from the Pantheon. Very easy to walk to all the historic sites including Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, etc. Very interesting church on the adjoining piazza. Hotel was very well priced, the staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely try to stay there on our next trip to Rome!

Having stayed at Santa Chiara before, I was expecting the same quality service and similar type of room. Regarding the service: the staff is the most unwelcoming, unfriendly and non communicative hotel staff I have ever encountered (in my many, many years of business and pleasure traveling). They appear to be unhappy and management should consider advising them that the hotel's reputation is build (in part, but a big part)on the servicing by their staff. Examples: At registration, the only thing said to us was 'your name and your passports' - not even a please nor hello nor welcome to the Santa Chiara; at breakfast - the staff passed without even a hello; and in the reception area and other areas of the hotel - if you did not say hello first, no one did (however, I will say the bellmen were nice). Regarding the room, it was clean but very, very old. The carpet needs updating and the shower leaked most of the water onto the floor each time we showered. However, the beds were comfortable and clean, and the room was located in a very quiet area of the hotel. The staff issue was so terrible, it really made the stay at the hotel unpleasant.

The Santa Chiara is a nice hotel in an excellent location, right behind the Pantheon. The room as adequate in size, the bath fine except for a very narrow tub, and the breakfast quite good. I would recommend the hotel to anyone who is looking for nice accommodations in Rome.

The location of the Albergo Santa Chiara was better than we imagined. We were within easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see, not to mention it is literally at the back door of the Pantheon. The service and breakfast were good and since we stayed there 2 times on our trip with friends we got to see a lot of the rooms. Each room had something different to offer, but ask for one with a tub or you could end up with a very small shower. We would definitely return.

Santa Chiara's rooms were cool, spacious and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel location was very central which made it a little noisy. However its proximity to the sites, good news when you have children, made the noise forgiveable. We had an excellent holiday which the Santa Chiara helped make possible.

While location is the outstanding virtue of this hotel, the good housekeeping (fresh sheets daily!), helpful staff, generous breakfast, and excellent plumbing combined to turn an excellent choice into an outstanding one. I know Rome very well, having lived there for several years in the 60s and 70s, and this hotel is already my top recommendation for family and friends. In the heart of the medieval city there will always be late night activity, but the street outside (Via Santa Chiara) is not a gathering place, so any noise passes quickly and simply reminds you that this is an area where ordinary Romans live and relax alongside visitors like us. Albergo Santa Chiara provided the perfect base from which I could introduce my daughter to all I know and love about the city.

This was my third trip to Roma and the location of the hotel was superb-you can walk everywhere and the Pantheon is literally around the corner. The front desk welcome was not very friendly. Room had a musty smell, dated, but clean, adequate. Very quiet. Front desk staff, while not particularly friendly were very accomodating, when asked, called for reservations for dinner, car to the airport, etc. Breakfast definitely one of the best experienced on our trip. One last problem, on checkout, we were initially over-charged ($212E/night vs. $170E). Fortunately I had a copy of my email reservation and the bill was revised. Front desk said it was due to a 'problem with the computer'. Overall, I would stay again, but would make an issue over the musty smelling room. I have used venere.com for booking hotels in Europe a number of times over the last few years and it has been excellent. However, in this case I feel the reviews 'oversold' the hotel.

Stayed for 5 nights in Sept 04. With the Santa Chiara it's all about location! It is right in the middle of the entire city. You can walk to pretty much everything and the piazza de pantheon is right around the corner for some late night coffee and wine. I thought the price was high for a 3 star ($210.00) But the quality was good and we had no problems. You gotta remember it is Italy so they have different standards, but i would equate this hotel to a nicer Marriott back home.

The Santa Chiara is a very pleasant hotel, with a lovely lobby offering a variety of newspapers, perfectly located for touring Rome. Generally very pleasant, some minor things: air-conditioning noisy but ineffective, poor TV. Location brilliant, of course.

The hotel is in a fantastic location near the Pantheon. The breakfast that is included in the room price is excellent with a wide selection of meats, breads, fruits, cereals. The hotel staff was helpful in arranging transporation to the airport for an early morning flight for us. We had a quad room that was large and accommodated our family of four perfectly (Room 454).

Wonderful large corner room. Great firm bed. Excellent bathroom. Superb recommendations for restarants. Hotel within walking distance of everything. Breakfast buffet large enough to satisfy anyone, good variety. We would recommend this hotel to anyone; we'd stay there again.

The hotel was very conveniently located. In my 3 nights stay in the hotel, I walked to all the major attractions. The breakfast was good as well, with a lot of variety. Room size was okay, but clean.

If you want luxury accomodations at the heart of Rome, Santa Chiara is the choice. The property is beautiful, service excellent and convenience to all major sites is perfect.

While location is clearly an advantage to this property, it may be the only one worth mentioning. The room is small and uncomfortable, the breakfast is terrible, and the price/value relationship is terrible. Stay here only if location is the most important criterion for your choice.

I loved this hotel! We actually stayed longer than we were supposed to. The hotel was wonderful, the location was amazing and for all of that the price was unbelievable. I will only stay at Santa Chiara in the future.

St. Chiara and staff were very nice. Location was excellent. Our triple had a great terrace, but it was too hot in Rome to use when we were there. We should have reported the air-conditioner which struggled to keep our rooms as cool as we'd have liked. A few hooks on the walls for towels and/or clothes would have been nice. Closet was small and limited place to hang the towels in the bathroom. Best breakfast of all the places we went on this trip and others in Europe.

Great location one block from the Pantheon. Daily newspapers in several languages are provided in a comfortable public sitting area on the main floor. The buffet breakfast was good with plenty of variety. They will glady store your bags after checkout for the day. There will be some street noise at night but it didn't keep us from sleeping, especially with the windows closed and the AC on. The staff were helpful when asked, but not particularly warm or friendly, rather business-like; their English was competent.

The price we ended up paying was beyond any price quoted on your service. However, we like the hotel and like its location, and would stay there again, even though it is expensive.

All facilities of a very high standard. Excellent breakfast - experience at other hotels has suggested the Italians don't do breakfasts particularly well. Staff were polite and helpful but I felt our group of six middle-aged women was regarded as a little too raucous and at odds with the more formal couples and businessmen!
