I stayed at this hotel because I was traveling abroad during my birthday and wanted to stay somewhere nice. The hotel was AMAZING. I was given a romantic suite all to my self. The room was gorgeous and I had my own terrace and a jacuzzi tub. I liked how on the website each of the rooms was slightly different, yet all looked very nice. Shortly after arriving they came up with a small bottle of champagne and a bowl of pistachios. The staff made me feel very welcome and I very much enjoyed my stay. I also rented wired internet for 10 euros for the night. I would have loved to stay for much longer than I did.

Great hotel in an off-beaten track location in Rome in a beatiful residential area. Charming rooms, great garden to sit in while having a breakfast or a drink at night. Very abundant breakfast. No downsides (well, only if one wants to be at a 5 min walk from the major attractions: the hotel is some 15-20 min walk from Colloseum and Palatine hill).

San'Anselmo was a gem away from the noise and crowds of Rome center. Architecturally charming, great service, interesting location, all added up to a nice stay. The breakfast room and the choices they serve were great. It was a really nice way to get ready for our busy days of sightseeing. Fresh, good food with interesting choices. Loved that we could order espresso. For the money, I felt our room was a tad small but the small terrace made up for it a bit. the rooms were very clean, though and I'm a stickler for that. There can't be any scum in the corners or funky stuff in the shower and this place was great. It would be nice to get more than just 2 towels to share between 2 people but we noticed that everywhere in Europe and I guess that's just how they do it. Overall, a great stay and we would would stay there again and recommend it to others.

I visitetd Rome together with my wife. It was our honeymoon trip. The Sant'Anselmo hotel is really exquisite and we certainly will book it again when we travel to Rome. The staff is absolutely perfect, and the hotel offers all services that make life convenient. Our room was a liitle bit small but on the other hand, the bath room (with separated toilettes!) was pretty large. Although the interieur of the room was a bit dark, we enjoyed our stay all the days. Especially the quality of the bed's mattress must be emphasized. Seldom I found such a good bed in a hotel! The breakfast is excellent for an Italian hotel, although the served fruits were the same all the days. And you must be aware that you can't expect a typical Continental Breakfast with ham and scrambled eggs in Rome... Summary: Absolutely TOP Level!!!

This hotel is a beautiful, quiet, oasis of calm in a busy city. We had read that it was not close to the major tourist sites and were a little worried about location. Well, after touring the fabulous sites of Rome with thousands of other visitors and maneuvering through subway stations and Roman traffic (an experience onto itself) we were so relieved to turn off the main street and walk up Via di Sant'Anselmo. Just a few steps along the winding street the noise and traffic disappears. Our room was elegantly decorated and clean, but a little tight for space. The bathroom was mostly marble and very nice. A full shower door would be a better idea, however. We wouldn't dare try all the fixtures on the multi option shower set up for fear of flooding the place. We had to soak up the floor with every available towel as it was. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Cheeses, meats, fruit, breads and pastries, cereals and much more. Best coffee ever! The Breakfast room itself is beautiful (as is the design of the entire hotel) The staff are efficient and cordial - not gushingly friendly, but always willing to help with reservations, directions etc.

Gorgeous boutique hotel. 5 star quality. Just redesigned everything. Quiet rooms, quiet area not far from sites. The breakfast is the best continental you'll ever have. Smoked Salmon, cakes, bagels, cheeses and meats, etc. The staff were very helpful. The restaurant affiliated was just ok. Nothing to rave about.

We were delighted with this hotel - it exceeded our expectations in every way and was one of the most romantic places I have ever stayed. We were upgraded to one of the really lovely rooms and it took our breath away when we walked in. The beds were firm but not hard and we both slept well and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The bathroom was luxurious and beautiful.Breakfast in the garden was such a lovely way to start each day and the buffet was excellent with lots of choice. The dining room looks like a set from a Mozart opera. Totally delicious cake.Reception staff were polite and helpful. We found several good restaurants nearby which were good value and served excellent food. It's about a ten minute walk to the tube which gives easy access to all the sights.A perfect place to stay for a romantic break away from it all.

Hotel Sant Anselmo was a fabulous place to stay in Rome. It is beautiful, quiet, and is in a great location away from the major tourist areas but easily accessible to everything by bus or metro. My husband and I and our two college age children thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay. Our two standard rooms were beautiful, air conditioning worked well, you could open the windows for fresh air if needed, and the outdoor breakfast area was so pleasant. The breakfast buffet was excellent with fresh fruit, cappucino, a large variety of breads, cheeses, meats, coffee cakes,etc.--something to suit all nationalities of guests. The hotel is in a quiet residential neighborhood, very relaxing. Hotel staff helped us with bus and taxi information. Very accomodating. We hope to return to Rome and would book the Sant Anselmo without hesitation.

We were pleased with the overall service of the hotel. We were provided with 3 adjoining rooms which was ideal for my wife and I (ours with a small terrace) and our two grown up children. Walking routes to the centre of Rome were pleasant through a quiet residential area, and reasonably quick. Hotel staff were very helpful in suggesting local dining places and in providing friendly bar service. The occasion was my partners big 60 birthday.

My boyfriend and I went travelling around Italy and this was the best hotel by far. I got my wallet stolen with my credit card and had to cancel it, however I did not realise that they take a night to reserve the rooms two days before arrival, but they kept the room for us. It was my boyfriends birthday when we were there and they brought us up champaign, nuts and chocs on the house!! The only downside we had was the climb up the hill but ut us worth it and it is only a couple of stops from central station on the metro. In our room they had a jet shower that was fantastic after walking around the city all day.

The hotel is about a 15 minute walk to the Coliseum, and is itself located in a nice residential area. There are a few restaurants also within walking distance. At first arrival, the luxurious atmosphere and gaudy curtains surrounding the bed are almost laughable, but then grow on you with their charm and elegance. A surprising amount of technology and amenities within small but capable rooms. The hotel staff is helpful (be wary of cabs to and from). My only complaint was we only received chocolates on our pillows once during the stay. I would return and recommend to anyone.

Great quiet location and once we had found the short cut walk to the river, walking distance to everything.Yes there is a hill to climb but as long as you have a pulse and take your time, if older, its easy. When we return to Rome we will return to this hotel, there was nothing to criticise. Landmarks...Closest is the Colosseum complex and for eating out and bars dont miss the Trastevere district, just over the other side of the river.Even the 1 hour stroll to the Vatican was comfortable and The Vatican City is not to be missed.

Stayed in Rome with my boyfriend at this hotel in early Jan, I took him as his xmas/birthday present, so i spent alot of time researching hotels in order for it to be perfect, this hotel has not had one bad review up to now on any of the sites i have looked at, plus it is stunning. The hotel was beautifuly decorated, on arrival we was given maps of the area and a map of near restaurants which was very helpful. The rooms are beautiful, we stayed in 822, it was very nice and everything we needed was given. It is approximatly a 10min walk to the nearest tube station, and only one stop to the coliseum. We had a great time here, and if was to go back to Rome i would definatly go back here and would definatly recomend it, i think the only let down is there is no restaurant, how ever breakfast was very nice and a sister hotel has a restaurant which is only round the corner.

What a fabulous property - the staff was extremely helpful, accommodating, professional, and friendly. The room and bathroom exceeded our expectation as did the general atmosphere, setting, and condition of the property - it had received an additional star since I had booked our reservation in July for our December stay - over Christmas. We are an extremely well-travelled couple who have lived on several continents and after several visits to Rome would not hesitate to stay here in the future. The DK Eyewitness Guide to Rome recommends this hotel as well and advises that one book well in advance - we now understand why. The best booking rate we found by far was on Venere. We always research properties extensively and while living in Europe several years ago discovered Venere - we have never been steered wrong by your site. Thank you again for helping to make our Christmas stay in Rome a memorable one. Notice to non-walkers, Aventino neighborhood is a bit of a walk into the center, but a must for those who wish to walk off all of the fabulous Roman cuisine - and wonderful European breakfast at the hotel (also easy to use subway nearby).

I went on the off season, so my beautiful room was only 109 Euros/night, which was a steal. The hotel is beautiful, in a very cute residential neighborhood, not right in the center of things but nice and quiet as a result, and only a 5 minute walk to the Pyramide train stop, 10 minute walk to the Circus Maximus. Internet access was 10 Euros/night (ethernet). The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant at the sister hotel was lovely. My only complaints were some slight noise from other rooms and that I had to keep manually turning off the heat, which was on too high and automatically kept coming back on.

My wife and I chose to stay at Hotel San’t Anselmo after reading all the positive comments on Tripadvisor, and we were not disappointed as the hotel was wonderful. We stayed at the hotel from the 9th until the 15th of December and managed to get a great room rate from Venere.com. The room was gorgeous and the velvety curtains and Victorian décor provided a charming atmosphere. We also had a Jacuzzi bath that was perfect for relaxing after long days walking around Rome. The hotel staff welcomed us with a big smile and talked good English. They willingly provided us with good tips and information about how to get to the main attractions in Rome. Baci chocolates were left on our pillows every evening, and it became a treat that we really looked forward to. Breakfast provided a good selection of cured meats and Italian cheeses, bread, boiled eggs, cereals, fresh fruit, dried fruit, yoghurt, sweets and pastries. Together with a lovely cappuccino, it was a great way to start off your day in Rome! The Hotel is situated in the quiet area of Aventino, right between the Metro stations of Pyramide and Circo Massimo (both are approximately a 10 minute walk away). It is possible to walk to the main attractions from the hotel, as the Collosseum, Circo Massimo and Foro Romano are just 15 minutes away, while the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Piazza Navona are less than a 75 minute walk away, especially if you walk along the Tiber river. Otherwise you can always go around rome by metro which is quite cheap. I would suggest that you go to Piazza Cavallieri di Malta and look through the keyhole of the front gate. It is just a corner away from the Hotel and through the keyhole you would be able to see the Dome of St Peter’s Basilica! We truly enjoyed our experience at the Hotel San’t Anselmo and would recommend it to anyone who would love a wonderful holiday break in Rome.

Overall our stay was pleasant. The hotel is beautiful and has an awesome breakfast. We were able to walk to nearly all of the major attractions. We had a little trouble finding the hotel from the subway station, so if you're walking I would suggest printing out step by step directions before you arrive. That said, we were very disappointed when we arrived and were shown to a room on the main level which was not the specific room we had requested. The room was small with only a shower with no shower curtain. Prior to our arrival we had received an e-mail confirmation from the hotel that we would get room 823, "ANGELICA" for the price that was quoted online. We specifically requested this room because we wanted to have a bathtub in the room. When we informed the front desk of the error, he told us that we would not have been given the room for the rate we paid because it was a superior room. We told him that we had an e-mail confirmation to prove it (which we had neglected to print out) but he said it would not make a difference because the room was not available. He said that the best they could do was move us to a nicer room with a view for the following night. The next night when we returned to our new room (the golden room), there was an apology note from management stating that they found the e-mail confirmation but it had not been communicated to the front desk. As a means of compensation they gave us a fruit basket, champagne, and a free dinner at their sister hotel. We appreciated this but were disappointed that the new room did not have a bathtub either. Also, that night, after I had just gotten into bed, an employee of the hotel walked right into the room without knocking. Upon seeing me, he quickly left, but this was non-the-less very unsettling. One other thing to note: the internet that the hotel provides is not free, but we were able to tap into wireless networks in both of the rooms we were in.

We were in Rome for three days as part of our vacation. We enjoyed our stay at the Sant'Anselmo. The two gentlemen at the front desk could not have been more accomodating and helpful. They gave us advice on how to travel about the city, called taxis and gave us good recommendations for restaurants. Our room was small but had 20 ft ceilings and opulent wallpaper. The bathroom was small but very clean. The location of the hotel was very good. We could walk to the Colosseum and other ancient Roman archaelogical sites. The coffee and juice for breakfast was disappointing but all in all we were satisfied.

My husband and I took my parents to Rome as a special present for their wedding anniversary (they are 70 and 75 year old), and we cannot thank enough for the staff of this lovely hotel. They had the best holiday of their life time. People were most helpful and pleasant, and anything we asked was done very quickly. Rooms (ours and theirs) were incredibly clean (it is almost impossilbe to impress my mother!) and beautifully decorated. The surrounding was very relaxing and convenient for the public transport. I felt like we are staying with (very wealthy) friends or family. I think the hotel was pretty fully booked when we were there, but we hardly noticed there was anyone else (apart from seeing people at the breakfast tables) because it was so quiet. So if you like peace and quiet, this is THE place to stay. If you do not feel like walking to the main road for dinner (it will take no more than 10 min to walk with very old pensioners), visit the sister hotel around the corner that serves dinner. Although the menue was not extensive, food was very good and very resonably priced. I hope Sant'Anselmo stays like this for a long time to come.

The Sant'Anselmo is in a pleasant quiet part of Rome, very nice surroundings, within walking distance (10-15 minutes) of the surviving structures of ancient Rome (Colosseum, Forum etc.) The Vatican is reached by taxi (about 6 euro) or by public transport, or by foot along the river (probably nearly 2 hours walking time). There is also a boat on the Tiber which stops at a bridge about 10 mins. walk from the hotel. As other reviewers have said, this hotel is slightly off the beaten track but has all the advantages of a lovely quiet and safe location. We found the hotel staff pleasant and helpful, they booked restaurants and taxis on request. The Sant'Anselmo doesn't have a restaurant but their sister hotel (San Pio) has, and a porter walked us down to it (a 3-4 minute walk) where we had dinner on two occasions in lovely surroundings. The Sant'Anselmo recommended several restaurants and we tried one 'Lo Scopettaro' a 10 min. walk away on the river bank - a great experience! Roman cuisine - no menu, 7 courses of traditional Italian food plus wine brought to the table. The Sant'Anselmo breakfast was very good, fresh fruit, ham, cheeses, bread, croissants, sweet cakes etc. - lovely. Our room was small but adequate with mini-bar and safe, comfortable beds, tv and internet. We used the San Pio to check in our return flight and printed boarding passes without charge. We stayed 3 nights in the Sant'Anselmo and got a good room rate (159 euro per night for 2 people including breakfast). I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

All the reviews reflect the detail of this fabulous hotel. If you want something quiet and tranquil, Hotel San Anselmo is perfect. We wanted "romantic" and we definitely got that. We stayed in the "Gold" room which has its own balcony, the views from which were lovely. The hotel looks exactly like its website - the rooms are very opulently decorated and though on the small side are within reason. Our room (including the bathroom) felt luxurious and updated. The Piramide METRO station is only a 10 min walk from the hotel; and from there, all of Rome is readily accessible: Vatican, Spanish Steps, etc. The staff and concierge were very accommodating. We had requested room 830 and whilst the hotel said that they could not guarantee any specific room, on arrival they referenced the request and assigned us 830. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who would like to stay close to the centre but at the same time to have peace and quiet. Our thanks to all the staff for a wonderful stay. We will definitely be returning.

The cleanliness of the room was a problem. The left pringles can remained with us the full two days in the cabinet, and the leaking shower because they say its from the jets was unacceptable. The manager discussed with us we had a unbelievable price, and then forced a one day charge onto my account when I had cash saying Venere charges the first night to my card, which I found out in Florence and Venice that this was a flat out LIE. Otherwise, the location is quiet and not far from the collesium, and a bus, and metro to take other areas around ROME. I would of rated the hotel very high if the above did not occur. Nice breakfast set up which is included, and spacious rooms for Europe.

this was a beautiful hotel in a great location. breakfast was especially good and the bed was comfortable. they held two of our bags for a couple of extra days which helped a lot as we made a quick trip to Paris. We arrived at night and their night clerk was okay but not great. His biggest problem was that he did not order a taxi for the airport as we had requested. Fortunately we discovered this in time to get a taxi and make our flight.
