The Hotel San Francesco is a lovely hotel that offers a small, but comfortable room, great bathroom, lovely roofdeck, and an excellent breakfast. The service is attentive, but not overwhelming. I would recommend this hotel.

Out daughter had støyer at this hotel Twitter and she recommended it to us. We were disappointed when we got a room facing the street because we were afraid there would be a lot of traffic noise. We were offered another room the next day, but we found that it was not necessary as the windows seemed "sound-proof". The room was quite small and the colors were dull, but the bathroom was lovely! Charming breakfast room , good breakfast. But best of all: the roof terrace with a lovely view and a VERY nice bar man who speaks perfect English and gave us lots of good advice. ,

The hotel is in a good location. Only about 5 minutes walk to the river. The breakfast is good value with a varied selection of cereals, meats, cheese, fruit and breads. The reception staff were helpful and quick to respond to our requests. The room was quite small and we could hear the conversations of other guests in adjacent rooms. On the whole a good place to stay which enables easy access to all the main sites of the city.

This hotel is well situated in Trastevere, Rome. It has excellent transport (buses and a tram) close by and it is easy to get to good restaurants at night by walking. Unfortunately, there is an ugly building site opposite the hotel. I asked for a room facing the garden weeks before my trip, and after being promised such a room, was given a street-facing room. The aircon in the room did not work well at all; it seemed virtually non existent. When I told the staff about it they told me that the aircon was centrally controlled and that our aircon was not different to any other room in the hotel. They could also not give us a fan. Basically I would advise all travellers to check carefully whether a hotel's aircon is individually or centrally controlled. Centrally controlled aircon can sometimes be too hot or too cold. The hotel staff were very friendly and did give me a substantial discount on the room rate the next morning, even though I had not asked for this. The staff were also very helpful when we needed an artist folder to keep a painting secure. They phoned around to find an artist shop for us in the area. The breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately, this hotel may not be a good choice for summer travellers requiring aircon. I make this statement, as one staff member had told me that our aircon was similar to that in the other rooms. In other words, it was not just a case of our room having a faulty aircon. They regarded the aircon as functional and therefore there was no need to fix anything.

The most uncomfortable beds I have ever experienced in a hotel. I was in two rooms in the hotel - both were equally uncomfortable. Morning staff at breakfast were a bit surly . . . they were willing to assist (trying to order a capuccino), if you were able to find them and get their attention. I actually felt like they were avoiding the room. The roof terrace is only usable after 6pm as they do not open up the canvas cover until then. Drinks were overpriced. No food available (even lite bites).

Well, after one week reding many reviews about getting a B&B in Rome, I think we decided very well. Me and my husband stayed there for 3 days and it was amazing, fresh breakfast every morning, lot of choices. The room was perfect with a private bathroom, nice shower and every day cleaning service provided. It was in Trastevere very nice location close to everything you need to see in Rome, by foot it was not so far for us. The staff is great and the decoration is very nice. We also enjoy some drink in the 4th floor as there is a roof bar, that was cool. Thanks to Feliceo and Adrian. I will come back for sure.

This was our first time at the Hotel San Francisco and we would certainly stay there again. The staff was very helpful, the room not large but adequate with a nice bathroom, and it was quiet. The breakfast was terrific - lots of choices and wonderful pastries. The rooftop garden was a delight for drinks before going out to dinner. Travestere is a wonderful neighborhood.

Great location in heart of Trastavere area where restaurants and nigth life abound. Felt like a tyical Roman neighborhood not a tourist area. Convenient to Trains and buses but could also walk to major old city sites (30-40 min). Hotel staff was professional and helpful...breakfast was substantial...rooms were clean & average in size...but was a bit pricey compared to other hotels.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights in mid-May. We loved that it was in Trastevere. But it was also an easy walking distance to several bridges across the Tiber or to a bus stop. The San Francesco square and church are just at the end of the street. The church has an amazing sculpture in it! We found many small restaurants in the immediate area also as well as a good wine shop. The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful and very friendly and accommodating. We had requested a room not on the street side so it was quiet. The air conditioning worked and our room was very clean. The room was small but then we only slept there. Breakfast was good and varied. We would stay here again if we go back to Rome.

This is a nice enough hotel in a great area in my opinion. The rooms are small but adequate, the bed was a little hard but not too bad. Breakfast was okay and in my opinion they are in a nice location. Close to many things we wanted to see so overall we were happy. There was an odd smell to the hotel, maybe just due to age.

I saw this listed as a B&B, but it's more like the hotel its name indicates. Outside the busiest part of Trastevere, but within easy walking distance of this, and with good access on foot to centre of Rome. Not an old and characterful choice, but it serves as a clean and efficient base for a short trip to the city.

Excellent hotel and excellent value. Breakfast was amazing. The "breakfast room" was very pleasant and the breakfast spread was very impressive. We liked our room very much. The location was noisy, and one of the adjacent streets is a a major throughfare, but since our room was on the 3rd floor, this wasn't a problem. Not close to many of the tourist sites, but there is some good food and clothing shopping nearby.

Many features of the hotel were great - breakfast room and food, reception/lounge, and the roof top terrace. Room was quite small and there was a leak in the bathroom which was not fixed while we were there. Room faced onto the street which had a lot of traffic on it early morning which was noisy. Hotel in good position for tram/buses and near many restaurants. Expensive for what it is but on a par with rest of Rome.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay in Rome and the San Francesco Hotel added quality and comfort to our trip. The hotel staff were exceptionally polite, helpful and well informed. They dealt with all our enquiries efficiently and gave us good tips on where to eat locally for an 'authentic Italian experience' away from the tourist scene. The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was extensive and delicious. The location of the hotel was ideal for us as it was close to public transport links to the city centre. We only used the trams and buses once though as the weather was perfect for strolling and enjoying the sights. I would recommend spending time in Trastevere itself as well as seeing the main attractions as it is quaint and holds many hidden treasures from delicious traditional restaurants to unique little shops hidden down the winding streets. I would definately visit Rome again and would highly recommend the San Francesco Hotel to compliment your stay in Italy. Thank you very much.

Hotel was exactly what we wanted. The immediate area of the hotel is pretty quiet but there is a main street very close with a few restaurants and more off this street. One tip: if you are getting the num 75 bus from the train station, ignore the "18 stops" as on the website. It's the first stop after the river so press the bell as you cross the river! Walls between rooms seem a bit thin but this didn't effect us (we had an end room on the floor so only one room as neighbours whose shower we heard one morning, it was pretty loud!)

Hotel San Francesco was our welcome to our first time in Europe. My 18 year old daughter and I flew in late from Paris. The shuttle to the hotel was waiting for us at the airport just as requested. The next day we were given very good directions and a map to the Pantheon. There is also a bus stop just around the corner that we used to get to the Coleseum. We never felt unsafe walking the streets and visiting the vendors in Trastevere. My next visit to Rome will definitely be spent at Hotel San Francesco. Our e-mail questions were answered promptly, the front desk was always accommodating and also patient with my bad Italian, and the breakfast staff worked hard to ensure a good start to our day. The rooftop terrace bar is a wonderful way to end the evening or to enjoy a cocktail before dinner, which we found at the suggestion of the desk staff, there were many fine dining establishments within walking distance. A great experience!

When we arrived, the water lines were turned off for maintenance and when we returned later the desk clerk tried to explain a problem about our room but shrugged and gave up. We found our bathroom flooded and the soaked bathmat wadded in the tub. Not a big deal-I cleaned it up in 15 minutes and all was well. The rooftop view from our room was amazing, the bathroom was roomy with a tall window, although the lighting was not sufficient to apply makeup in the early morning. The breakfast here was the best of several hotels we stayed at, but seating was limited and it was frustrating to wait. They will make you cappuccino upon request, included in your breakfast. The hotel is around the corner from convenient bus service and the desk clerks helped with that. A nearby tiny restaurant, Augusto, had simple good food at reasonable prices, as did the larger restaurant right next to it (whose name escapes me) both on Piazza Renzi. We enjoyed the frequent sound of church bells, even in the morning, and the bed linens were high quality. Overall, we liked this hotel (as well as the neighborhood) and would stay again.

This hotel was a pleasant suprise for the quality of the hotel at that price. The hotel was definately one of the most accommodating I have ever stayed in. From the decor, and the amazing breakfast overlooking the garden, the rooftop bar with outstanding views over Trastevere. It was well located within walking distance to the local trattorias and restaurants and we felt safe walking around the area even late at night. There is great transport available to explore the sites of Rome in walking distance. We used the #125 bus a lot which is right out front of the door to get to inner Rome (10 mins walk). Benedict could not do enough for us, his hospitality was fabulous. It is generally suitable for disabled persons and we would definately stay there again, and have already recommended it to many people. As you can see I loved this hotel! A must stay in ROME!!! Arriving on December 23 we spent 4 wonderful Christmas days in Rome with this gem of a hotel as our base. We'll never forget the beautiful Christmas midnight mass in "Santa Maria in Trastevere", the very nice people at the hotel and the splendid breakfast buffet.

This is a great small hotel in a fun neighborhood. Close enough to walk down to centro storico. Also very convenient to get to the tram #8 to go downtown to Largo Argentina (Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori) as well as the Trastevere train station (for the airport). There was some noise from the street when the windows were open, but it was minimal. Highly recommended.

Nice place, in a nice, quieter, somewhat less touristy part of Rome. The people working at the front desk spoke perfect English, and were always happy to answer questions. Free internet in the lobby is a nice bonus.

The hotel is very nice, rooms are clean, service efficient, breakfast very complete, and I would recommend it for any type of medium budget travelers, even though it is not in the very center of the Trastevere and the streets surrounding the hotel give a poor impression when you arrive. On the other hand, for people arriving at Fiumicino airport, I highly recommend, instead of going to Termini, to take the FM1 train to Trastevere station and from there Bus 3 or Tram 8 to Induro fermata. From there it is only 1 minute walk and especially half of the time and half of the price of going to Termini!!! Enjoy your stay!

My saturday night stay cost 160 euros and my Sunday night stay was 69 euros for a total of 229. It was worth 69, not 160. When I asked about staying two extra nights, he said OK and I asked if it would be at the 69 per night I payed for Sunday night and he said I payed 89 for Sunday night. I didn't like that he called me a liar. Finally, I showed him my Venere confirm sheet that showed I paid 69 and he gave me the room at 69, but still I was pissed that he called me a liar. I guess the customer is not always right in italy. The internet was not working when I was there. The elevator didn't work my last day. Breakfast was great. The room was very good. Large bathroom. Real towels. Some street noise, but not too bad Cool neighborhood with lots of restaurants. Easy to get to central Rome on the #8 tram or H bus.

we stayed 5 days in San Francesco hotel and enjoyed it a lot. It was more or less what we had expected. Although there are nicer parts in Trastevere, it is located quite centrally with a good connection to public transport. The staff was very friendly, especially the guy at the reception desk, who seemed to be there at every hour and who was very helpful. The rooms were very clean, nice and freshly renovated bathrooms. I can recommend the hotel and will definitely choose the hotel again.

Excellent hotel with very nice and skilled personnel. Unfortunately room walls are very thick and it makes rest very difficult, specially if you find deaf, unpolite, maybe insomius neighbours who decide to watch tv all night long! Anyway the hotel is wonderful, in a very charming zone, very well connected and has a very good relation between price and quality of services.

Excellent location for this nice hotel surrounded by the charming streets of Trastevere and close to the best pizzas in Rome (from our opinion!)Very nice view on the church chapel of the franciscans + on the gardens. the only thing negative could be the proximity of rooms that make us hear our neighbours perfectly taking the shower, etc. The rest of our stay was delightful! thanks to venere!

Considered several options prior to booking and most definitely made the right decision. This hotel has all you need and is in a great location in wonderfully charismatic Trastevere. Although small rooms, bathroom more than adequate in size and appeared almost new. As much as you want to eat at breakfast and roof terrace offers a nice spot to chill and take in the sounds of the city at sundown. Have stayed at larger chain style hotels with many more stars attached and although the San Francesco is no 5* property, with fluffy pillows, silky sheets, etc, it is more than good enough to recommend to others on this site and to revisit if I am lucky enough to return to Rome. Bene!

100% recomendable.

This hotel is clean and nice. It has a modern touch but lacks with the tacky wall paper and flooring that I'm not sure what it is. I think it should either be all modern or all typical Italian. The breakfast was only typical American breakfast with plenty to choose from but if someone wanted a croissont and decent Italian coffee??? We are in Italy here! The roof bar is really nice in the summer. Anyways overall the hotel is nice but the price is a little high.

My girlfriend and I tried to follow the train/shuttle directions from the airport and were extremely dissatisfied with them. The bus dropped us off in a dark, shady alley. The hotel was just around the block. The area where the hotel was located was quite far from anything and the walk was exhausting. The roof top bar was nice and the breakfast was bar none the best I have ever had in Europe. The rooms were nice and the bathrooms great. The location of the hotel is even worse than I was imagining and although this was really the only issue we had with the hotel, it was a major one.

We had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel. Cleanliness, decor, general standard of property and breakfast selection were all excellent. We also enjoyed the roof terrace bar after a long day's sightseeing. Staff very helpful and friendly too. Slightly out of the way of the main tourist sights but not a real problem. Would certainly recommend it.

The San Francesco rooms are very nice: not overly spacious, but very adequate. Both bathrooms were lovely, and big: 204 with a walk-in shower; 206 with bath tub and hand-held shower. Their breakfast is Great! Nice, hot eggs and a huge variety of fruit/cereals/breads every morning. (And after one morning, the staff knew I wanted my hot water for tea right away!) Desk staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. We used the 3-day bus passes and needed a local bank for an ATM problem; and they gave us good information re both. Computer access was nice to have and easy. Location is quite good: away from the bustle of Rome center, but very easy access to a lot of Rome attractions. We used the buses a lot, but could also walk almost everywhere. If/when I come back to Rome, I will be happy to stay here again. Also, the rooftop bar is GREAT. We were so busy, we only used this our last, fourth night -- and realized we'd missed out on a nice chance to get to know fellow travelers by talking with a nice couple of repeat visitors to the hotel from Scotland. The ONLY negative to this hotel is the church bells which ring loudly at either 6:15 and/or 7:15 AM. Especially if your rooms are on the back side -- which ours were, but which I think is the much nicer side: lovely, tree-y court yard down below and a very peaceful view. Finally, this comment is directed at Venare.com I emailed you asking for info re NA/AA meetings in this area. Your response was that you didn't know about that. I think that, had this request for info been passed on to the staff at the Hotel, they might have looked in to options, and provided me with useful information. I would hope that just because you said you could not do that, that you would still pass that request on to the hotel staff -- to see if they could. Also, we used your services to book our hotel in Florence. While it was much more expensive than the Rome hotel, we were equally happy with it: the Mon

Excellent location in the heart of Trastevere. Only a few hundred meters from the bridge into Rome proper, and a short walk to the Coliseum, etc. The tram and several busses stop on the same corner giving fast access to anywhere in Rome, including Termini and Trastevere stations. I will stay here exclusively on future trips.

We enjoyed the Hotel Francesco. Rooftop patio was wonderful in the evenings. Rooms were quiet except for the bells that ring from the church which is located next door. I think they start around 7 am...but I could be wrong on the time as the rooms don't have clocks. It's a bit of a walk to the sites in the historical center 20-25 minutes and we weren't "strolling", it was a brisk walk.

April 2005: Marvelous weather and nice hotel. Trastevere might be 'on the other side of Tevere', public transportation is close to the hotel and there is an abundance of restaurants (like in Via del Porto). Trastevere deserves evening walks as well. Nice staff, nice roof bar, great breakfast, and not so big rooms. Be sure to visit the church next door for some (religious) extacy.
