Overall excellent. Bathroom huge by euro norm. Easy to get local bus. Trastevere center was a further walk than anticipated for couple in mid seventies traveling with us but if you can easily walk cobbled streets you should have no trouble. Would stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay in Rome and the San Francesco Hotel added quality and comfort to our trip. The hotel staff were exceptionally polite, helpful and well informed. They dealt with all our enquiries efficiently and gave us good tips on where to eat locally for an 'authentic Italian experience' away from the tourist scene. The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was extensive and delicious. The location of the hotel was ideal for us as it was close to public transport links to the city centre. We only used the trams and buses once though as the weather was perfect for strolling and enjoying the sights. I would recommend spending time in Trastevere itself as well as seeing the main attractions as it is quaint and holds many hidden treasures from delicious traditional restaurants to unique little shops hidden down the winding streets. I would definately visit Rome again and would highly recommend the San Francesco Hotel to compliment your stay in Italy. Thank you very much.

Hotel was exactly what we wanted. The immediate area of the hotel is pretty quiet but there is a main street very close with a few restaurants and more off this street. One tip: if you are getting the num 75 bus from the train station, ignore the "18 stops" as on the website. It's the first stop after the river so press the bell as you cross the river! Walls between rooms seem a bit thin but this didn't effect us (we had an end room on the floor so only one room as neighbours whose shower we heard one morning, it was pretty loud!)

Hotel San Francesco was our welcome to our first time in Europe. My 18 year old daughter and I flew in late from Paris. The shuttle to the hotel was waiting for us at the airport just as requested. The next day we were given very good directions and a map to the Pantheon. There is also a bus stop just around the corner that we used to get to the Coleseum. We never felt unsafe walking the streets and visiting the vendors in Trastevere. My next visit to Rome will definitely be spent at Hotel San Francesco. Our e-mail questions were answered promptly, the front desk was always accommodating and also patient with my bad Italian, and the breakfast staff worked hard to ensure a good start to our day. The rooftop terrace bar is a wonderful way to end the evening or to enjoy a cocktail before dinner, which we found at the suggestion of the desk staff, there were many fine dining establishments within walking distance. A great experience!

Please look over on the address that you have posted on your website. It stated it was located on IACOPA street and it was really JACOPA st. The address that was listed on your website was wrong and it made it difficult to find. However, once we found the hotel, our stay was great! We will definitely stay here again. The day/night managers were amazing and very helpful.

Nice beautiful hotel. Good warm room(this was in the winter) and spacious bathroom. Excellent breakfast. The location is perfect, close to the city, buses etc but still in a quiet alley. (The price was the same as we paid for a B&B without WC in the room in the same area.)

Nice quiet room overlooking a monestarys orchard (a guarantee for quietness...monestary...orchard...get it). Very helpful staff, fluently english-spoken. Breakfast was very good, based on the fact that we're in the south of Europe and we're from the north! Recommend it whole-heartedly!

Our first trip to Rome and we were very happy with the Hotel San Francesco. Rooms are a bit tight and some aging of walls, etc but it is charming. Max is the best. Buffet breakfast is good but gets a little repetitive. We would stay here again.

We were very unsure on the standard of hotel in the reviews as we had a "bad" experience last year in a Rome hotel however the San Francesco was everything it stated and more . Max at the desk made us feel very welcome ,the room overlooking the Convent gardens and the lovely breakfast made for a wonderful stay and capped off a great holiday .We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Rome now and recommend very highly

When we arrived, the water lines were turned off for maintenance and when we returned later the desk clerk tried to explain a problem about our room but shrugged and gave up. We found our bathroom flooded and the soaked bathmat wadded in the tub. Not a big deal-I cleaned it up in 15 minutes and all was well. The rooftop view from our room was amazing, the bathroom was roomy with a tall window, although the lighting was not sufficient to apply makeup in the early morning. The breakfast here was the best of several hotels we stayed at, but seating was limited and it was frustrating to wait. They will make you cappuccino upon request, included in your breakfast. The hotel is around the corner from convenient bus service and the desk clerks helped with that. A nearby tiny restaurant, Augusto, had simple good food at reasonable prices, as did the larger restaurant right next to it (whose name escapes me) both on Piazza Renzi. We enjoyed the frequent sound of church bells, even in the morning, and the bed linens were high quality. Overall, we liked this hotel (as well as the neighborhood) and would stay again.

A nice hotel in a great area, within easy walking distance of all the great bars and restaurants in Trastevere, which is an area I would highly recommend. The hotel has a great roof bar which I would recomend for a quick drink or two as the views are lovely. The hotel also serves very generous breakfasts. The room we stayed in was small and a bit on the shabby side, but was adequate, clean and the bathroom was a good size. Staff are polite and efficient.

This hotel was a pleasant suprise for the quality of the hotel at that price. The hotel was definately one of the most accommodating I have ever stayed in. From the decor, and the amazing breakfast overlooking the garden, the rooftop bar with outstanding views over Trastevere. It was well located within walking distance to the local trattorias and restaurants and we felt safe walking around the area even late at night. There is great transport available to explore the sites of Rome in walking distance. We used the #125 bus a lot which is right out front of the door to get to inner Rome (10 mins walk). Benedict could not do enough for us, his hospitality was fabulous. It is generally suitable for disabled persons and we would definately stay there again, and have already recommended it to many people. As you can see I loved this hotel! A must stay in ROME!!! I hope I will be able to get a room now that I have let this secret out!

Had a wonderful 5 day stay in Hotel San Francesco - Trastevere is such a great area to stay in, nice and relaxing with lots of cheap, quality restaurants after a days sightseeing. The room was smallish - but that shouldn't be a deterrant as it was well laid out with a lovely bathroom. They also have a roof garden - we didn't use too much due to the weather but i'd say it'd be great in the summer after a days sightseeing.

The Hotel San Francesco is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and I would enthusiastically recommend this hotel to any people visiting Rome, Italy. They have a beautiful, roof-top garden area overlooking an ancient monastary with great views and a huge, breakfast buffet every morning and the hotel staff were very helpful and gracious. My room had the most beautiful bathroom with painted blue walls and great shutter windows that looked down into the church courtyard next door. The location is also excellent. This is a fantastic hotel and quite affordable as well.

It's a very good hotel well located on Trastevere neighborhood . Efficient service on the front desk and good rooms on a reasonably price at Rome. Nice places to eat on the nearby and 25 minutes of good walking to the coliseum area. I've only one complain about the service as I forgot an notebook case (without the notebook) there and after many contacts with them they don't come back with an answer, showing an poor post stay service, different from the good service I had at reception

This is a great small hotel in a fun neighborhood. Close enough to walk down to centro storico. Also very convenient to get to the tram #8 to go downtown to Largo Argentina (Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori) as well as the Trastevere train station (for the airport). The hotel is very nice, rooms are clean, service efficient, breakfast very complete, and I would recommend it for any type of medium budget travelers, even though it is not in the very center of the Trastevere and the streets surrounding the hotel give a poor impression when you arrive. On the other hand, for people arriving at Fiumicino airport, I highly recommend, instead of going to Termini, to take the FM1 train to Trastevere station and from there Bus 3 or Tram 8 to Induro fermata. From there it is only 1 minute walk and especially half of the time and half of the price of going to Termini!!! Enjoy your stay!

Although there are nicer parts in Trastevere, it is located quite centrally with a good connection to public transport. My saturday night stay cost 160 euros and my Sunday night stay was 69 euros for a total of 229. It was worth 69, not 160. When I asked about staying two extra nights, he said OK and I asked if it would be at the 69 per night I payed for Sunday night and he said I payed 89 for Sunday night. I didn't like that he called me a liar. Finally, I showed him my Venere confirm sheet that showed I paid 69 and he gave me the room at 69, but still I was pissed that he called me a liar. I guess the customer is not always right in italy. The internet was not working when I was there. The elevator didn't work my last day. Breakfast was great. The room was very good. Large bathroom. Real towels. Some street noise, but not too bad Cool neighborhood with lots of restaurants. Easy to get to central Rome on the #8 tram or H bus.

Considered several options prior to booking and most definitely made the right decision. This hotel has all you need and is in a great location in wonderfully charismatic Trastevere. Although small rooms, bathroom more than adequate in size and appeared almost new. As much as you want to eat at breakfast and roof terrace offers a nice spot to chill and take in the sounds of the city at sundown. Have stayed at larger chain style hotels with many more stars attached and although the San Francesco is no 5* property, with fluffy pillows, silky sheets, etc, it is more than good enough to recommend to others on this site and to revisit if I am lucky enough to return to Rome. Bene!

This hotel is clean and nice. It has a modern touch but lacks with the tacky wall paper and flooring that I'm not sure what it is. I think it should either be all modern or all typical Italian. The breakfast was only typical American breakfast with plenty to choose from but if someone wanted a croissont and decent Italian coffee??? We are in Italy here! The roof bar is really nice in the summer. Anyways overall the hotel is nice but the price is a little high.

My girlfriend and I tried to follow the train/shuttle directions from the airport and were extremely dissatisfied with them. The bus dropped us off in a dark, shady alley. The hotel was just around the block. The area where the hotel was located was quite far from anything and the walk was exhausting. The roof top bar was nice and the breakfast was bar none the best I have ever had in Europe. The rooms were nice and the bathrooms great. The location of the hotel is even worse than I was imagining and although this was really the only issue we had with the hotel, it was a major one.

The San Francesco rooms are very nice: not overly spacious, but very adequate. Both bathrooms were lovely, and big: 204 with a walk-in shower; 206 with bath tub and hand-held shower. Their breakfast is Great! Nice, hot eggs and a huge variety of fruit/cereals/breads every morning. (And after one morning, the staff knew I wanted my hot water for tea right away!) Desk staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. We used the 3-day bus passes and needed a local bank for an ATM problem; and they gave us good information re both. Computer access was nice to have and easy. Location is quite good: away from the bustle of Rome center, but very easy access to a lot of Rome attractions. We used the buses a lot, but could also walk almost everywhere. If/when I come back to Rome, I will be happy to stay here again. Also, the rooftop bar is GREAT. We were so busy, we only used this our last, fourth night -- and realized we'd missed out on a nice chance to get to know fellow travelers by talking with a nice couple of repeat visitors to the hotel from Scotland. The ONLY negative to this hotel is the church bells which ring loudly at either 6:15 and/or 7:15 AM. Especially if your rooms are on the back side -- which ours were, but which I think is the much nicer side: lovely, tree-y court yard down below and a very peaceful view. Finally, this comment is directed at Venare.com I emailed you asking for info re NA/AA meetings in this area. Your response was that you didn't know about that. I think that, had this request for info been passed on to the staff at the Hotel, they might have looked in to options, and provided me with useful information. I would hope that just because you said you could not do that, that you would still pass that request on to the hotel staff -- to see if they could. Also, we used your services to book our hotel in Florence. While it was much more expensive than the Rome hotel, we were equally happy with it: the Mon

We enjoyed the Hotel Francesco. Rooftop patio was wonderful in the evenings. Rooms were quiet except for the bells that ring from the church which is located next door. I think they start around 7 am...but I could be wrong on the time as the rooms don't have clocks. It's a bit of a walk to the sites in the historical center 20-25 minutes and we weren't "strolling", it was a brisk walk.

San Francesco is wonderful gem of a hotel. Rooms a bit small but baths are quite large. A terrific rooftop bar with views of Roman rooftops. Service staff is top notch, especially Luciano. Neighborhood in Trastevere was great, many fewer tourists, a sense of the real Rome.

Nice. Small rooms, as is typical. Helpful front desk for restaurant reservations. Quiet. Considered off the beaten track, but we like to walk so that wasn't a problem.

April 2005: Marvelous weather and nice hotel. Trastevere might be 'on the other side of Tevere', public transportation is close to the hotel and there is an abundance of restaurants (like in Via del Porto). Trastevere deserves evening walks as well. Nice staff, nice roof bar, great breakfast, and not so big rooms. Be sure to visit the church next door for some (religious) extacy.

The staff and service were both excellent, the location couldn't have been more convenient for any traveler, business or tourist, and the reakfast buffet was beyond expevted. i would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a modern yet boutique-y style hotel.

A lovely hotel in a great area. I would not hesitate in recommending it. Lots of great restaurants and shopping in the area, which has a bohemian feel about it. A magnet for students and artists.

This Hotel is a great stay in Rome. Situated away from all the fuzz makes it a great area to come back to after a hectic day surrounded by tourists and scooters :-) Combined with the fact, that it is in walking distance of just about everything you would want to see in rome makes the place fantastic. Service is great, breakfast i great with lots to choose from in a cosy setting. The roof terrace is magnificent. Rooms are not too large, but bathroom were great with plenty of room, which was more important than the room itself. We can only recommend this hotel and will definetely stay here again when we come back to Rome. Make sure to get directions from the hotel as to where to get off the number 3 tram when you arrive - the street is not marked on most maps, but hotel staff speaks good english and are very helpful.

Hotel San Fracesco is a very nice and very tastefully furnished and decorated hotel. The pictures on their web-site are true. The room was a litle bit small and not really sound-proof, however the bathroom was very nice. The breakfast buffet was well balanced and should satisfy most tastes. We will certainly try to book this hotel when we return to Rome.

The hotel was in a great location and very clean, modern, and welcoming. The room was very comfortable, spacious (for a European hotel) and the bathroom was large and comfortable. The breakfast was also excellent. I would recommend this hotel.

This hotel's location in Trastevere might be a minus for some, but it is a very enjoyable walk to most major areas of interest (plus Trastevere itself is a joy). The hotel offers the small rooms that are so typical for Rome hotels, but teh bathroom was spacious, the room was clean and relatively quiet (even with a street-side room), the staff was helpful, and the price, while not cheap, was also not terribly expensive (again, by Rome standards). All in all, when we return to Rome, we will definitely look into getting a room at the San Francesco again.

I spent Christmas there with my family of 4 adult children and we would all certainly stay here again. The staff were mostly very pleasant and helpful, the hotel very clean. Though we found the rooms a bit small, 2 out of 3 of the bathrooms were absolutely excellent. Trastevere is also a great part of Rome to stay in.

Our room was clean, comfortable and modern. The bathroom was large with a tub/shower combo. The staff were courteous, professional and competent. Breakfast is wonderful. The location is a convenient walk to many of the key sites (eg. 30 minute walk to Vatican). Terrific location for those visiting college students studying in the area.

The photos of the hotel were rather misleading, and we thought we were in an older part of Rome than we actually were. But saying that it was only a short walk to the older part of Trastevere, and not too far to walk to the other parts of the city. The hotel was quite expensive for the facilities it actually offered, with fairly small rooms. The bathroom was quite large and very clean - as was all the accommodation in general. The selection of food offered at breakfast was very good, and the staff were very attentive and friendly at all times.

Hotel San Francesco in Trastevere was an excellent base for a 3 days family exploration of Rome. Nice, clean and quiet rooms. Very charming breakfast room(and good breakfast) with a view to the garden. And last but not least, a very stylish roof top terrasse/garden - a great place for a "sundowner" as well as a "sunriser". Visit - and enjoy! The personell? Smiling, helpful and able - what more can you ask for?

Not cheap, but really excellent. Very nice room, best breakfast buffet ever in Italy, well located on the edge of Trastevere. We will definitely stay in San Francesco again when we return to Rome. Go for it.

A new or newly renovated hotel which becomes apparent once you have entered the hotel. Everything was in an excellent condition and spotless: the bedroom and en-suite bathroom appeared to be brand new; the cloistered breakfast room was cosy and well maintained; reception area and foyer were immaculate. All tastefully decorated and well-kept. The staff were attentive and helpful. The hotel is off the beaten track, away from the tourist hotspots on the eastern side of the Tiber, but close to the cobbled streets and fantastic bars and restaurants that are at the heart of Trastevere. The hotel is close to tram/bus routes for getting to the centre of Rome or a very pleasant walk (about 20-25 minutes) to the centre. Not the most picturesque surroundings, but roof terrace gives nice views.
