Pros: Hotel was very very convenient and near to Termini. Air-con was working perfectly and powerful, good in the summer heat. Cons: Room though is very very small, toilet/bathroom is just standing space. Breakfast is super basic (1 coffee and 1 bread), which is provided at nearby cafe.

I paid more for this very small room than I did for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. The entrance and the place where breakfast was served was dirty to say the least. I would never stay here again and I am reluctant to use Venere again.

The relationship between price and quality is just bad. The offered breakfast must be taken in a café near by. The rooms aren´t in a good shape - specially in the 2´nd floor. One of our rooms - we booked 5 rooms - has the toilet down the floor. If anyone will book rooms for a group, he or she should pay attention to get rooms on the 5´th floor - the rooms on the 2´nd floor must be renovated - or offered for a more favorable price. But one important advantage for groups is the fact, that young people can be a little bit louder during the night without any repressions. I´ve been many times in rome before and for singles or (mature) couples i would prefer a hotel near by... . with greetings

We had a really quiet room which was nice in the city. The hotel is two blocks from the Termini Station, so getting a train, metro, bus or taxi is really easy. There are some great resturants in the area. I would recomend this hotel to anyone who is on a budget.

This is a terrible hotel. Does not deserve even one star. Staff is either indifferent or intentionally deceptive. Services promised and paid for are not provided and they don't care. When I complained they simply ignored me saying I was a complaining guest, not realizing that I speak Italian. Room was shabby, curtain falling; even the towels had holes. Breakfast is down the street limited to a single coffee and roll. Very dank and shabby place...stay away from this hotel and all the others in the same building.

At arrival we were directed to another hotel on via Marsala. We absolutely didn't want a room next to a busy street like that. After a talk with the staff, we (3 teachers) got a room in the hotel we booked on venere.com. This room had 1 double bed. The employee of Rubino didn't want to give us 3 seperate bed's right away. Again we had some dificulty to get what we reserved on venere.com. After this bad start we had no more big complains. For the breakfastticket we had to go to the 5th floor each day. 3 teachers history from Holland

Hotel Rubino was the worst hotel we ever stayed in. Our rooms were in a building in a different street than the adress of the hotel. Rooms were VERY dirty, we didn't even want to touch anything in our rooms. Even when we told the personal, they didn't clean better. For breakfast we received a Voucher, worth 50 CENT (!!),in a coffeeshop down the next street. Even if the hotel has only 2*, the rooms have to be clean. WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

the hotel we stayed in was clean and comfortable, everything was consistent with the web site. The receptionists very very friendly and helpful. The hotel was located only a one-minute walk from the Termini station, so we could easily travel around the city. The rooms were nice furnished and very clean, but there were only Italian programms on the TV. There were 2 Internet cafes in the neighbourhood. On the day of departure we had to leave the room before 11 a.m. and we could leave our luggage in the hotel, but we couldn't stay there any longer (we could only rent a room for the rest of the day- it costed 30Euro). The breakfasts were served in the cafe outside the hotel (about 20 metres)- they consisted of coffee or juice and a croissant. I would recommend it and I would choose this hotel once again.

I was unable to cancel the reservation on the web. I went from Florence to the Hotel to cancel the reservation. The people at the hotel refused to cancel the reservation even though it had only been 3 hours since I made it. I have never been treated so badly. I am still fighting with them over a $120.33 charge for a room I was never given. I am not sure I will ever trust reservations on the web again

I was very disapointed when I found the hotel Rubino once I got to Rome. The pictures showed some nice images of rooms and reception areas, but the buildin itself was horrible, old, dirty, run down, and I could continue the list. We avoided being in the hotel for most of the day, and this took away from our experience as a whole. I would not stay again at the Rubino Hotel.

This hotel was our worst accomodation experience in Europe. The room was very small. The staff were not friendly. One female reception staff was exceptionally cold to us. The price was too high for its quality of service. We've had much better deals in Paris and Florence. Also, the hotel put us in another building, and told us just call them if anything was needed. I tried to call them quite a few times, but nobody ever answered the phone. This hotel should be avoided at all cost.

Whilst the photo's were a little far fetched, the old saying you get what you pay for rings true here. We paid $50 euro a night in Jan which was not too bad. The location was very handy and the room was fine and basic. The only problem we had was the room was right behind reception which made it extremely noisy during the morning. The "breakfast" consisted of a stale jam roll and a cup of cordial (tea and coffee is offered) but what do you expect for $50. Great for walking to all the monuments and literally across the road from the station.

Nice place at an unbeatably cheap price directly across the station. The matresses were quite worn out, but I guess you cannot expect too much at € 50/night for a double room. Very friendly staff, clean rooms. Highly recommendable.

We found what we expected, a low-price room in the very center at Termini station. (80,- per night for one double) We had two double with shared bath located to the street. The bath was clean and there were two bathrooms for four rooms. Our rooms where big enough and the bed was clean but the matrasses where week in the middle. (We have seen the two other rooms on the back of the house. One was as big as ours and calmer, but the other one extremly small and opposite to the bathrooms) The floor was almost clean but you should not look on the top of furniture or under the bed. We were contented because we wanted to see Rome, a bed in the night and near the center and the possibility to have a rest in between. There was no breakfast but on our second day we found a wunderful bar in the Massilia street. There you get the best coffee and a croissant for 1,60.

A very warm welcome from a fluent english speaker. We were given a map, and although our room was not ready we were shown to it, so we could leave our bags, and it was cleaned as soon as we were ready to leave. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We were put in the appartments which were separate to the main part of the hotel, they were nicely decorated with a ceiling fan, sink and tv with lots of channels, but none of them english. We were told that although we were in the appartments we would be able to get in touch with the front desk of the hotel 24hrs a day through a telephone in our room. There was no telephone in our room and the ones just outside the room in the corridor had no connection to the front desk. The shared bathrooms were reasonably clean but the showers were not particulary good, one morning the shower was freezing cold most of the time, but the other shower worked fine. Plenty of clean towels were supplied every day except for the last day when our used towels were taken away but not replaced. The hotel is very conveniently located, just north of the main station on a main road, there is an internet cafe close by and the supermarket in the station is very convenient.

Hotel Rubino should be avoided at all costs. The air-conditioning does not operate to your desired temperature resulting in a sweltering room. The staff when you could find them were not interested. The breakfast bar is in another hotel in the same building on the 5th floor and consists of two tables and four chairs. Overall the place is a disaster and should be avoided. For Hotel Rubino read Hotel Ripoff.

If I were to visit Rome again, I would find an alternative hotel. It was OK, but for the price, it should be possible to find a hotel with a better standard of cleanliness. The rooms were very sloppily cleaned, and quite often we didn't receive replacement towels. The bathrooms were mouldy, with an unhealthy musty smell which permeated all the rooms. The showers were lukewarm at best. We also had a debate with a fellow guest who believed that the shared bathrooms were for her private use alone. She took out all the toilet paper to prevent anyone else from using them!! (Hotel Rubino staff, please take note!)

We were transferred actually from Hotel Rubino to Hotel Planet in the same building upon our arrival. That was a good thing since Planet is on floor 5, far above the traffic, and Rubino is on floor 2. Street noises may have been much more bothersome on the lower floor. Because of a cancellation we were also offered a "private" instead of shared toilet across the hall for 10 euros more, and that includedd a small breakfast too. Although no other guests used this toilet, it was obvious that someone did, staff I presume. We loved the easy location next to the station. The morning coffee was great. The staff was helpful.

We booked a family room for 4 people and there was hardly enough room for us to walk around with the 4 beds in place (1 double, 1 single and 1 foldout). The breakfast was okay, it is delivered to your room each morning as there is no breakfast room. We had a problem with paying for the room with our credit card, the hotel would not let us pay with our credit card and we had to go and withdraw cash. A lot more hassle and more expense. The staff were not helpful at all with this. The location is very handy to the central terminus, only 5 mins walk. I would recommend this hotel if you want to be close to the terminus but make sure you bring cash to pay for the room.

First of all this to me was the typical average Hotel you would get in Rome. You pay more than you would in other Italian cities and you get less. Hotel Rubino moved us to the Hotel Blu. That was about half a block away from the Hotel Rubino that we booked. The hotel was noisy due to the location and street traffic that was near the main train station. The room was clean and the bathroom facilities were OK. It was a good location if you were to use the main train station for travels within Rome. It was not a good location if you intended to walk to the Collesium, Spanish Steps or the Trevi Fountain as it was a good hike. For a younger couple it would not be a problem. It was certainly to far to walk to the Vatican. The part that disapointed me with this hotel is that although I booked it on my credit card when it came time for payment they insisted on cash and would not accept my credit card payment. I really did not appreciate that although they gave me a 5% discount on the overall price because of my complaint. The problem for a traveler is that you do not want to waste your cash on paying hotel bills. I believe they should honor the credit card payment. Sincerely, Anthony Petrucci

Location was good (about a block from the train station). We were able to find on street parking (11 euros per day) instead of using a parking garage for 18 euros. The room was pretty small (a small path to walk around the beds to the bathroom), but it was air conditioned and thus quiet and cool at night. Breakfast was included but the breakfast room seats only 4 people. We ate in our room, which was a bit tight since there was only one desk and chair. No big deal really. The staff operate several hotels but were very quick in responding to the buzzer when we checked in and also when we needed to contact them. A 10 euro discount (on a two day stay in our quad room) was offered for paying cash the day before check-out. The hotel was very nice for the price.

Our correspondence with this property led us to believe that we were getting a double with a private bath and a triple w/o any amenities in the same building. We are a family of five; Mom, Dad, Son, and two daughters (16 & 12). When we arrived the desk person wanted to give the double a shared bathroom, and the triple was not even on this property, Mom and girls would have had to go down the street a block or so. They totally misrepresented themselves. Thankfully I had all our correspondence and was able to present a case. We ended up in a double with bathroom/shower, and a triple w/bathroom/shower, for $200.00 a night. Breakfast was a hard roll with warm drink. Every other property at least gave us some type of juice or fruit. There seemed to be several hotels in this one building and I'm not sure if they are owned by the same person, our key said something different than Rubino. The area around the train station is really nasty. We had to walk past some unusually weird people to get at our hotel street. The manager really pushed to have us pay cash, we don't carry that kind of money in cash or travellers cash.

We were generally happy with the room and the service. We booked a quadruple room which was fairly small (two adults + two children)and did expect breakfast (as indicated by the website)but breakfast was not included. Although we booked in at the Rubino hotel we were taken around to the pension Soggiorto Sport which was about 300m from the Rubino. The TV had very poor reception for the likes of MTV etc (satellite channels). All in all though we thought that the accomodation was OK and reasonably priced for a capital city.

The hotel Rubino has a separate section for venere.com (I think that's what it was). Our room was 70 euros a night for a big double bed, bathroom was in the hall. I thought the room was nice enough for the reasonable price, it was big and had a nice window and a TV. It was surprisingly quiet at night even though we were on a busy street right across from Termini station. The location was perfect, except watch out for expensive touristy restaurants. The showers were not excetionally hot, but decent. All in all, if you just need a cheap place to crash at the end of a long day of sightseeing, I'd reccommend it.
