The hotel Richmond was as it appeared on the web site. The rooms were clean and the hotel very quiet, but for some street noise, which was to be expected. We booked several rooms; the single room was smaller than expected. One room's air conditioning was not up to premium working order, but held its own. The breakfasts were quite nice and the roof top setting perfect. The location was as promised: right across the street from the Forum. Fabio, the desk clerk/ concierge was fabulous. He was helpful, friendly and accommodating.

The location is the best in Rome. The breakfast terrace was fantastic. It's a small hotel and very personal. We had a large bathtub that 2 people could get into, just like in the movies!! Very romantic!

I have stayed at the Hotel Richmond many times over the years and can say that it is one of my favorite hotels in the world. It is small and friendly with a staff that will give you a hand in anyway that it can. The location of this hotel could not be better for seeing Rome on foot. I have stayed here alone as well as with my son who at the time was 11 years old. My son also like the hotel and the staff made him feel as if there was no one in the world more important to them that him! One minor limit to the hotel is that internet access is limited and it must be paid for.

it has amazing bedclothing and other details in the room, the best i've ever seen in a 4 stars hotel. the breakfast was great and the employees were very nice. It's an old building, very very very close to the foro and when you see the outside, you don't think this could be an hotel, but the inside it's much better. the only problem it's that it's a little noisy, but it was good enough to repeat. the ubication and the views were awesome.

Excellent, convenient location for the ancient Roman history enthusiast; very pleasant and helpful staff; rooms are average, but the renovated bathrooms are fantastic; breakfast terrace is picturesque with decent buffet style selection. We were very happy and satisfied with our stay at the Hotel Richmond.

This is an old hotel that has been kept up and remodeled. The location is fantastic for first time Rome visitors. It is closer to the Colliseum and Roman Forum than obvious in the hotel literature. The front desk staff were excellent at giving recommendations for restaurants. The morning breakfast was superb. I really have no complaints, just praise for the Richmond Hotel.

The hotel is a bit pricey, but the location is excellent and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The breakfasts were very nice. The room was a good size and the beds were comfortable, apart from the pillows (terrible). The only real negative (apart from the pillows) was that the room did have a strong smell of cigarette smoke whenever it had been shut up.

Great hotel, great location. Staff was courteous, multi-lingual, and very helpful. Clean rooms, small by American standards but large(er) for Rome. Hotel room looked out to the Roman Forum - excellent view. Some traffic noise but not a problem for us. Would recommend to anyone. Free safe in room, nice breakfast included.

We stayed in Rome for 3 days, a family of 4 with 2 children aged 8 and 10. Hotel Richmond is ideally located literally right next to the Colosseum and that was great. However, we had some difficulties finding it even with the help of a GPS and a map, because it is not visible. The front of the hotel is covered by a gas station and a restaurant, plus the address given is probably not the appropriate one? I would suggest Via Cavour 1 istead, based on our experience. The staff were very polite and very helpful, the breakfast venue (terrace) was breathtaking, the breakfast itself was ok. One major comment I need to make is that the hotel interior is in desperate need of a renovation. Also, I did find a few ants in the room and one other (very small) insect in the bathroom, although in general everything looked clean... For these reasons, the very high price we paid cannot be justified just by the hotel's central location. I would return to the property only if its interior is renovated and the price was a little better.

We were staying because of my International Congress, but took some days extra to see Rome. The place was excellant, the roof for breakfast superb and the people who work there were very kind and helpful. We did not like the noise, but it was probably difficult to diminish. The place is in the middle of lively traffic and Italians tend to use their signal horns more than at home

The location was closest to the Colosseum and the Forum which was great. We stayed in a family size room and I was disappointed because I thought we would have one double bed and two twin beds in the room. We had a double bed, a cot and a sofa. The room was located in the front of the building facing a busy street was it was quite noisy. However, coming from the city this didn't bother us much. We didn't need the air conditioning; however, the carpet was wet as it was leaking. The staff remedied this by putting down towels. The room remained damp. We didn't eat at the rooftop breakfast buffet as the food was not covered very well and the birds were feasting on it well before we got there. Overall, I would recommend this hotel because of the price and location.

Excellent location, very nice staff, standard rooms are very small, but what one need to spend a night and take a shower. Bathroom is very small so if you are a very big person you need to ask for a bigger room and bathroom if available. There is a number of places to eat nearby. Breakfast is basic but ok.

USA, Aug 2007
We booked two rooms, one for the children and one for us for 5 days. The kids room was fair, but looked and smelled dirty; carpet, bedspreads etc. Small, old TV, electrical outlets were an electrical fire looking for a place to happen, and few of them and in inconvenient locations for computer access. Their room faced the street and was noisy, however the alternative which was "air conditioning" was substandard and the room was stiffling. Our room was smaller than a closet. We had to move the suitcases from place to place just to enter the mini bathroom. Door to room almost hit bed, 12 inches from bed to wall on other side. Closet could not even accomodate three items. Air conditioner also substandard and loud. Desk in the room was useless as it was needed to place other items which had nowhere else to go. Electrical plugs included one power strip under desk with frigo bar and tv already plugged into it, already overloaded for age of hotel. Restaurant (breakfast) service was terrible, both in quality and service. I wanted to check out immediately but my husband was too polite to do so. Very disappointing experience. Redeeming quality. Staff was very helpful and very nice.
USA, Apr 2008
We could have found a cheaper hotel to stay in but I wanted to stay in an area that I was familiar with and the views out to the Forum area were great. Emma, Janet & Fabio, the front desk crew, made our vist. Anything we wanted...they found. Any questions...they got the answers. Special requests... no problem. Breakfast was pretty standard fare, but enough to get you going for the day. The rooftop breakfast area with it's views made the food better! Overall..I would stay there again. Very safe & comfortable for our girl trip!!!

The staff was absolutely wonderful. Our airline lost our baggage and the staff went above and beyond to help. Their English was excellent and any information provided by them was very reliable and accurate. Location was excellent as we could walk to everything. There was alot of street noise but given the location, it was unavoidable. Don't go to the pizzeria on the corner to the right of the hotel. Go to Dodo on Via dei Serpenti about a block up Via Cavour - excellent value. Alot of good value restaurants on Via Dei Serpenti. GO to the Chinese restaurant on Via Cavour - excellent value, good food and great people.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Richmond. The location is fantastic, near the monuments and walking distance to the Metro, Colosseum, and city center. The staff was very kind and helpful. The terrace where you have breakfast has a beautiful view of the roman ruins, extraordinary also for an italian like me, used to see Florence, Rome and beautiful views. The buffet breakfast was very rich and variated with local food such as "ricotta cheese", fresh salads and chopped vegetables. You can find several good restaurants in the streets facing the hotel. Between them I recommend "Trattoria dei Fori Imperiali" excellent food in local, clean ambiance.

Hotel Richmond has several good qualities that make it a place I would stay again. First, the location is spectacular; right at the entrance to the Forum. Secondly, the personell; extremely helpful with any questions and very attentive to any needs over a stay of four nights. Third, rooms are clean, quiet and secure. Fourth, the roof-top terrace; simple but very pleasant in the morning regardless of weather. Lastly, surprisingly I am saying the room. My room was quite small, but served my needs very well and really, why have a huge spacious room when I went to Rome to see the city, not a hotel room. The shower was extremely small, but having worked on a ship, nothing new to me. When I go back, it will be very easy for me to choose to stay in the Richmond again.

I was in a single room, so it was not so spaciousness, but it was enough for me. A little bit unconfortable the wall wardrobe. The breakfast was fantastic for the food and the place. I suggest to everyone to stay in this hotel. Near the hotel there is the Trattoria dei Fori Imperiali, where you can eat a good typical rome food.

This is a small hotel. It needs a little maintenance, but not bad. It is excellent on room temperature control (hot and cold) which is much better than very nice hotels that only have one system working. It was very spacious. Staff was very accommodating.

Nice hotel with gentle service. Only the fotogalery implicates a dining restaurant which doesn´t exist. There is only a breakfast area at the roof garden, but that has a nice view to the Vitt. Eman. Monument.

From the outside the Hotel doesn't look great but as soon as you walk through the door your impression changes as the staff as extremely welcoming and not in an insincere patronising way. The location is terrific, the view from the roof terrace of the Roman Forum is stunning. My room was extremely comfortable ( I had been upgraded and I believe not all the rooms to be as big as the one I had ). A lovely bathroom with all toiletaries you could imagine, as there is always something you forgot to pack. A sky box in the room with satelite TV with a translation option to view programs in English is a welcome change from the usual CNN found in other hotels although given the location of the hotel across the road from the Forum and a stroll from the Colloseum and centre of town with so much to do and see in the city there is little time to watch TV. A good selection on the menu for breakfast. I ended up staying in the Richmond by default. The first hotel I had booked into could not accomodate my last night. I chose the Richmond on account of the location and very competive price. My first Hotel was twice the price, quite a distance from the centre of town with indifferent staff. I was sorry I had not spent my entire week in The Richmond, they at least restored my faith in the Hotel Service Industry in Rome. They may not have a bar in the hotel, but it is not big and there is a cafe bar outside and plenty of other places only seconds away . This does not mean that the location is noisy but if you are a light sleeper they even supply you with ear plugs beside your bed! Definately a place to recommend on so many levels and I would happily stay there again.

We very much enjoyed our short stay at the Richmond. The room was beautiful, the staff was very helpful with directions and arranging a ride to the airport. This is the worst hotel I have stayed at in my European travels. The pictures on their website are very nice but, very decieving. I would in no way rate this hotel a 3 star. The rooms had a very foul odor as well as a smokey smell and, we had more than one room. Front office girl not very knowledgeable about the city or the area. All she could say was "I really don't know". I could never recommend this hotel to anyone.

It was our first time in Italy, and after reading lots of reviews about this hotel, I have to say that everything about it, as far as the room, bathroom, location, staff exceeded our expectations by a mile!!! Location was fantastic with a great view, especialy from the breakfast patio! The room was a lot bigger then we imagined, very clean and quiet, air conditioning worked perfect, the breakfast was excellent and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful!! The reason why I chose this hotel is that the location is wonderful. I was able to walk to many of the tourist spot. I stayed at a single room of this hotel for 10 days. I stayed comfortably at this hotel. The room was small. However, it was an enough area for one person. I requested A Room With a View. If the louver door was shut, the noise was not anxious, and relaxing while looking at a part of ruins from the window was happy. The regrettable one is that the wallpaper peeled off a little. The price is a little bit expensive. However, it is cheap one in the hotel in Rome. I was satisfied with this room in this price. When I entered the room, I noticed the drier broken. I reported it to the reception desk, and went out. When I came back to my room, it had been already repaired. They did quick correspondence to the guest's demand. They were kind, and pleasant. I ate breakfast in the terrace where the view was good. Breakfast was enough good. The view was great. If you want to eat breakfast comfortably, it is good to avoid about eight o'clock. It spoilt because of the noise of the garbage truck. This is a good hotel. I want to stay again here.

Although we had a printed confirmation in our hands, they did NOT have a reservation for us the first night we arrived. They gave us (at a reduced rate) a small, single room with a "French" bed that was very cramped for two people. Our second night was fine in the room we had actually reserved. How does this sort of thing happen after carefully making reservations months in advance through Venere ???

It met our expectations. we were 3 people and our bedroom had 2 rooms and a bathroom well equiped (soaps,hairdryer,towels...) Considering that most of hotels of 3* in Italy are really old, this hotel is worth, for the service, location and very clean. Breakfast with buffet quite well and excellent views. 2minutes walk to Piazza Venezia or Colisseo

Room was in terrible condition, peeling wallpaper, dirty bedspread, carpets, linen. TV did not work nor did the Heating/AC unit. The room was so loud I had to use ear plugs and almost overslept and missed my flight. Breakfast area was very nice but bad food and the attendant was rude and unhelpful. Made a change to my stay which was confirmed by one employee, when I arrived the another employee said the change wasn't correct, that it was my problem and I'd be charged more. Thankfully this didn't happen. Great location though, but there are other hotels in the area I would NEVER stay here again!

The hotel had been recommended to us, and we certainly weren't disappointed. It was in a superb location and we were able to walk to all the sites we wanted to vist. (The furthest, The Vatican, being about a 30 minute walk.)The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The room (306) was a little on the small side, but as we hardly spent any time in it, that really wasn't a problem. It was kept spotlessly clean and the facilities were first class. The buffet breakfast was amazing - so much choice - and the view was great, too. We only experienced a little noise early on one morning when the rehearsal for the Republic Day Parade was taking place. (Unfortunately, we left the day before the actual parade so missed the real thing.)Especially considering the hotel's location,it was really quiet. This was a great base for our holiday in Rome and we would certainly stay there again.

We have stayed at the Richmond several times and will no doubt do so in the future (thus my choice to be anonymous). I find the hotel to be a good value overall for Rome and the Centro. However, I did notice a slide in cleanliness in our room (long hairs in the tub and on the bathroom floor, for example), and the air freshener scent really is too heavy. The staff are always excellent as is the car service they use for the airport.

This is a small hotel with limited facilities (No diningroom or bar). The rooms are small but clean and adequate for a short city visit. The breakfasts were adequate. It is expensive for a 3 star hotel (it is in Rome!) but it is literally across the road from the Forum and a 3 minute walk from the Colosseum. The main sights of the city are within walking distance or you can take the Metro from outside the Colosseum. There are several good pavement cafes directly outside the front door. (Do NOT eat across the road in the Forum Hotel Restaurant as it is a total rip-off with poor food and dreadful service.) The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. If we return to Rome we will stay here again.

It looked out on to a busy road which didn't cause us any problems given the time of year as we did not need open windows. A nice, clean hotel in an excellent location, close to the Colloseum and Metro. A bit expensive, but this is Rome and we needed a room big enough for 4 people (2 adults and 2 teenagers), so it was what we expected. Nice restaurants right outside the front door. They let us have an hour late checkout, which worked well with our train schedule. One small negative: when we came back to get our bags and check out, the maid was already stripping the beds and cleaning the room. That meant she had to move our suitcases and clothes, and in doing so she covered my son's baseball cap. When we realized later that day that it was missing we called the hotel. They found it the next day, and promised to mail it back to us at our home.

Large bedroom (triple) with very poor lighting. Huge room sall windows, no ceiling light. No shower !! this was big negative with 3 of us getting ready in the morning. Layout of room very basic. Overall for location, price and friendly staff the hotel is very good. I only have one negative thing to say. We had three double rooms as we were a party of six. Two of the rooms were of a good size, but the third was very small, half the size of the other two and with hardly enough room to walk around the bed. The hotel did move our friends on the last night to a larger room, but only because there was a problem with the bathroom in the small room. We all paid the same, and the experience of the hotel was obviously different for those in the very small room. Location was great though!

Our first stay in room 201 was really great, however on our last day in Rome, we stayed in room 306 and that was inferior. Room 306 is the reason why I put the ratings in the middle. The interior of the room 306 is in poor condition, it is also the size of a single room with a double bed, tiny bathroom, leaking shower and still costs the same as the larger cleaner room 201. 306 was Definitely not worth the price. On the bright side Hotel Richmond has the most comfortable beds and we had our best sleep in Italy in both rooms. The breakfast is a bonus, the food is plentiful and delicious and the staff at the hotel is the best.

Very Friendly staff, great location (yards from the Roman Forum and within sight of both the Colosseum and the Vittoriano). Our room was not spacious but could not be described as cramped. Air conditioning was top class and very much required (July). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Richmond Hotel (3 days) and it was close to the Colliseum and bus stops as indicated in your brochure/online. We had a king bed and the room was very clean but were small rooms and not much space to move around. As soon as you walk outside there were outside restaurants so we did not have to go far for meals or a drink. The continental breakfast on top of your roof was great and the view was spectacular. I would fully recommend this hotel to other friends and family.

good location. Warm welcome. Great terrace overlooking Forum. 305 too small - price/quality.

Hotel was just as described. We weren't expecting a big room based on previous stays in Europe. However, the quad room (4 adults) greatly exceeded our expectations. Hotel staff was wonderful. Breakfast bugget was more than you get in most US hotels, with fruit, cereal, meat, breads, etc. The location was also fantastic - close to lots of attractions plus close to the subway & busstops. Can't wait to return to Rome!

Hotel staff extrememly helpful and very friendly. Located in a very busy street with alot of traffic noise, but also very conveniently located to nearby Ancient Roman sites which we wanted to see, as well as handy to buses and Metro.

Excellent location close to Ancient Rome. The rooftop breakfasts gave us great views and observations of life in Rome. The room/bath was adequate space/comfort for all four of us. The price was reasonable with walking distances for restaurants/history/Metro line. Staff was pleasant, although not completely confident showing Rome to their visitors. Air conditioning was an essential for a hot summer in the city, and we were glad of it! I would happily return at Hotel Richmond.

We had a wonderful time. The location and photos are just as their webpage photos show. Excellent location! The service was fabulous. Carlos went above and beyond his duties to ensure that we had a great time in Rome! I would stay here again.

Location excellent, hotel beautifully kept, everything works. Breakfast terrace priceless, we enjoyed 2 June military parade from there. Breakfast buffet impressive. The greatest receptionist we ever met: Mr. Carlo Rosati. My wife and I were surprised and delighted, many thanks!

All the staff very friendly and kind. Room quality is poor and I do not know if 190 euros per night is reasonable or not. Seems to me bit too expensive for what it is.

Best location. But the room was not so spacious and was a bit noisy.

Very pleasant stay. Richmond hotel’s situation is perfect to visit the city. Splendid terrace on the roof. Good services. However the price remain high, even if Rom is an expensive city. Same pricing on the Venere web site as the one given directly by the hotel.

This is an OK hotel in a good location but suffers a bit from the noise of the busy road. The room was fine. I paid for a double room for single occupancy which was a bit expensive. The corridors and staircases were in bad need of redecoration - peeling wallpaper and grubby carpets - gave a rather seedy feel to the place. The location made up for a lot though and the rooftop breakfast setup was nice.

Very small but clean rooms. Unfortunately a lot of noise because the hotel is next to one of the main streets. The terrace was really great with a beautiful view all over ancient Rome. The service was always nice and friendly helping us to make reservations at all the restaurants we wanted to go to. The hotel is situated right in the centre so that you only have to go outside to start your sight-seeing tour. So if you don't want to spend too much time in your room, I would say it's a good choice.

We really enjoyed our stay and everyone in the Richmond went out of their way to help us. It is a shame that the building next door is derelict - there was a faint mustiness in our room which is probably caused by the poor condition of the neighbouring property. And what a location !!!

Excellent hotel in a fabulous location. Our room was very spacious and comfortable (2 adults, 3 kids). Only complaint about room was FILTHY carpeting (walking around in white socks turned them black). Our room didn't have a shower, but had a large bathtub with a handheld shower head, which we used. There was a shower available in the hall bathroom (only four rooms on floor - we were in #201 overlooking the street). Front desk staff were always helpful and cheerful. Each day we set off in a different direction and walked everywhere. Vatican was furthest point away (2 miles) with everything else of interest much closer. Nice continental breakfast on roof with view of Forum. Restaurants right outside front door were quite good. If we're lucky enough to visit Rome again we'd gladly stay at this hotel. 45 euros cab ride from Fiumicino (scary experience due to speed, lane changing and tailgating - wear seatbelts and pray) or take the train at the airport (8.50 euros pp) and then a cab (8 euros) from the main train station to the hotel.

Excellent and helpful staff, with great location. Only problem was the overall damp of the room...rug felt moist all the time; and some weird scent thing they used to ? hide what odour...absolutely sickening overperfumed scent...someone should tell them a dehumidifier and cancelling what ever makes that smell would go a long way to improving the experience there (which was otherwise very good value and very pleasant).

This is a fantastic small hotel, run by an extremely welcoming and helpful proprietor. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the forum, air con and the best location in Rome for a very reasonable price. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

The hotel has an excellent location as it is a stone's throw between the Colosseo and the Roman Forum. Restaurants with reasonable prices and wide range of Italian food abound at its frontage. It is easily accessible by bus or by the Metro and there is a Tourist Information office nearby. The manager is very considerate and friendly. I like the view from the breakfast terrace - it overlooks the Roman Forum. And the facilities of the hotel as he described it when he confirmed my booking, matched what were provided to me -- safe deposit box, good airconditioning system and a window view of the Roman Forum although the latter is blocked by a tree next to the window. The room was cleaned and towels changed daily . I would gladly return to this hotel if my wish at Fontana de Trevi is realized -- that is, to return to this beautiful city of Rome.

Location is wonderful, right across the street from the Forum; nice restaurants just outside the door. Staff are all friendly and competent. Lovely rooftop terrace for breakfast.

Great location-we could see the Forum and the Victor Emmanuelle monument from our window--the address makes it sound like it is in a cul-de-sac but in reality, it is on Cavour and therefore the front room we had was noisy from traffic. The people were delightful-very charming and helpful, even gave us a bottle of champagne to celebrate New Year's--I recommend this hotel--convient location, nice folks, only drawback is-it is small and therefore, no lobby.
