Hotel Residenza in Farnese - Rome
Via Del Mascherone 59 - Rome
877-662-6988At the beginning of the 19th Century, the palace was bought by the Church and became the seat of the Ecclesiastical Institute for the formation of young new priests.
Today, this old monastery houses a cosy hotel of 31 rooms in their original layout.
The passion for art and restoration of two ladies, Marisella and Carla, who run the hotel with particular care, offer guests a warm and prestigious welcome.

What you would expect from a 4 star European hotel. Not plush but very nice in a quaint sort of way which is what a European hotel should be. Breakfast buffet was OUTSTANDING!! Irene and Fransesca were highly professional and helpful. Would have never made it in Rome without their help. Would never hesitate to stay there again. If someone can't be pleased at this hotel you will not please them anywhere. Perfect location.

Our room was comfortable, but, compact. We faced the street and liked to sleep with the windows open, so had to contend with more noise than if the windows were closed. The staff, especially the front desk, were great. The bed and bedding were excellent. The location allowed us to walk to every thing in central Rome that we wanted to visit and a wide selection of places to eat.

This hotel was a mixed bag. The location is AMAZING--you can walk almost everywhere in Rome that you as a tourist would need to go--a 2-minute walk from Campo de Fiori (it's the next Piazza over), less than 10 minutes to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, same for the Forum and just a little bit further from the Colisseum. Trastevere is JUST over the river, so it's 5 minutes to get over the bridge. We would stay here again in a heartbeat just for the location. Seriously. The room was fine, not bad but not great. The included breakfast was pretty bad (the first morning the milk was spoiled, although that didn't happen again). The hotel website claims to offer free wi-fi, but it does NOT. Wi-fi is 10 euros a day. They have a computer in the lobby that offers free internet (on a tragically slow computer), but wi-fi is extra. We did get a day or two of free wi-fi by pointing out the website claim, but they are not very accomodating, and just repeated that it's the computer that is free internet. Sigh. The staff was fine but they didn't seem too happy to be there. But again, the location is SO PHENOMENAL that it is probably worth staying here despite some of the drawbacks. But do understand that it's a bit of a mixed bag.

Residenza in Farnese is a very nice hotel in a beatiful place! Very quite street close to one of the most beatiful places (Piazza Farnese and Campo de' Fiori) in Rome! The ambient of the hotel seems the same of the Renaissance: the bedrooms, the breakfast room, the entrance room. It was a very pleasant stay!

We were impressed by the friendly staff. The rooms are well equipped, be it that the bathroom is rather small and basic. At our last visit late april, the roof terrace still had to be prepared. I'm curious what summer will bring. The breakfast offers a variety of continental and english treats.

The hotel has a very good location. The street is quiet and we looked out at the Palazzo Farnese. Rooms are a bit small though. Breakfast is good. You have to pay quite a lot for internet use, that should be free in any hotel nowadays, certainly given the high room price in this hotel.

The hotel was recommended to me by a friend , that is why I I did not really commend the web page. My mother and I had a very pleasant stay and we only can recommend this quiet, personal and nice hotel. The only thing which could be better is the coffee in the morning which was really horrible.

I've been to Roma several times, but this was the perfect spot to stay. It's located in an absolute quiet part of Campo Fiori, just a minute away from Piazza Campo die Fiori and Piazza Farnese. It's a short walk to Tevere river as well as Piazza Navona. Use of smaller Electro Bus No. 116 is a highlight while passing piazzas and narrow roads in the old part of the city where no tourist buses where able to go. Or going to direction Tevere where you can use TRAM 18 (starting from Teatro Argentina) to Trastevere for many nice restaurants.

I already went to this hotel last year, and I was not disappointed this year, on the contrary.

Our room for three was lovely (king for us, twin for our daughter), the staff was great. The breakfast was wonderful - plenty of choices and more than we had expected - in a very pretty dining room. Location was great - near plenty of restaurants. We walked everywhere from here. Would stay here again!

Lovely hotel in very quiet location yet reasonably close to main sites and easy walk over bridge to Trastevere for bars/bistros/nightlife. Decor very tasteful and typically 'Italian' - art work everywhere. Individual room air con much appreciated in July heat. Good breakfast selection and plenty of it. Fantastic hotel!!

The principal reason we chose this hotel was location - and it cannot be better! Outstanding in the heart of Rome. Excellent staff, one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in 8 trips to Italy, beautiful room and public spaces. I would highly recommend this hotel. It is a little expensive but not out of line for a hotel of this quality in this location.

This was our second stay at this hotel. Was pricy, but this is Rome. We had a nice sized double room in the back. There were no drawers to put away clothes, but the closet was large. The lighting was adequate. The shower is tiny but did not leak much onto the floor. Plenty of space in the bathroom for personal items. nice cozy place. The best location in town!

My step-mom, husband, son and I came to Rome at the end of our 16 days Italy trip, and we were tired, had a rental car that needed to be picked up because it was broken, and it was raining. I,frankly, don't like Rome very much; I find it loud, grasping and crowded. I am a Tuscan person....but staying at the Farnese was a godsend. Quiet and calm. Professional staff. We had one problem that was defintely not the hotel's fault. On New Year's Eve fireworks, more like bombs, went off all night and scared the heck out of us. One even went off at Campo di Fiori while we were eating dinner and shook our chairs. But the hotel is centrally located so you can easily get to the Vatican, the Roman ruins, or shopping. The Roman ruins Argentina are right down the street. We liked their breakfast room and buffet. They were very gracious people, and I strongly urge people to stay there. Yes, I wish it had been cheaper, but then I wished all of Italy were cheaper for our American dollars.

For a 4* hotel there were no tea/coffee making facilities in rooms, exorbitant prices were charged for tea ( in form of one teabag, hotwater and the smallest doll size jug of milk) The bread/ pastry supplied at inclusive breakfast was hard. Amazing prices for water and soft drinks in mini bar. The reviews I based my booking were inaccurate and hotel staff were not at all forthcoming or even attempting to be welcoming. Would not recommend hotel.

My mom (in her late 70s) and I visited Rome for 10 days. The Residenza Farnese was an oasis of comfort during our stay. I think the breakfast was among the very best I ever had in any hotel in Italy (fabulous and plentiful hot coffee to get the day going, along with rolls, cereal, sweets, fruit, meats, and cheeses). The room was rather tight quarters, though not unlike other urban Italian hotels. And it was noisier than I would have expected, being on a side street. But what made the stay wonderful was the staff. They were ever-ready and helpful without being intrusive--wonderful hosts. If you go, ask them to arrange a driver to/from the airport; they can get a better rate than most anyone.

Hotel is in a great location. The street is small and quiet with Piazza Farnese at the end of the street and Campo dei Fiori just beyond that. Minutes to walk to the Piazza Navona and Trastevere for great restaurant options. It's not very close to the bus stops, but I preferred walking the streets anyway. The owners are very pleasant and helpful. Rooms are small by American standards, but typical for European hotels. I would definitely stay here again.

We only stayed 2 nights, but after 4 of us in a small quad room in Sorrento, we were pleased with the spaciousness of our 2 double rooms (parents and 2 teens). The location was great, just off Campo dei Fiori (although spoiled a bit temporarily due to some renovation of the front of the building.

We were totally satisfied with our stay at this hotel. The desk staff was very friendly and helpful with museum reservations, train schedules, directions, etc. The room we had initially was a bit small, but they did move us to a larger room when it became available the next day. The location is great--we were able to walk almost everywhere. This hotel was an oasis of calm in the heart of very busy Rome! It was easy to walk to most of the sights or get the little electric 116 bus which passes very close. Ecellent locatioin- right in the heart of Rome- 2 min to Campo de fiori, 5 min to Piazza Navona, 30 min to Vatican anf Colosseum and absolutely charmin corner of Rome- real Rome without crowds of tourists all the day round. Rooms very clean, staff absolutely compitent friendly and attentive and relations with a staff gave our a real pleasure. Breakfast is normal, nothing sdpecial but not a poor continental breakfast. Room was very quiet - no sound form the hotel, we had family with little children on the same floor- but no sounds through the door. The sound comes form the street- it can be more quiet in fact- but the surroundings are enough quiet not to have muhc motos and traffic so it was not bad! Alos it was great to stay in the old palazzo, right on the corner of the piazza farnese, there are a lot of places to have a dinner or to buy mineral water or something to eat in the room. Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, perfect locaton.

We were at the Hotel Residenza in Farnese in July 2007. Breakfast was fine. Hotel is 400 years old, beautifully refurbished, rooms more than adequate although it was a bit small with a queen size bed. Location near the river was great. Could walk to most major attractions within 20 minutes, and the Great Synagogue was a 10 minute walk away. This hotel is a bargain, and the desk personel were very helpful and polite. I have stayed in several hotels in Rome, and this is, by far, the worst value for the money I have ever received. The property is hidden in a sidestreet that is lined with motor-cycles that can be heard in all hours of the day/night. The property is "bare-bones" in the services provided, yet charges much more than some of the really beautiful, premium properties in Rome. I only booked this property due to a last minute reservation, and the fact that it was available. I would NEVER use the property again. I actually moved to the Valadier, located around the Spanish Steps after a few days and received a much better room at a much better price in a much better location. Live and learn...

I chose a place and location that would provide a quiet place to rest after a day in the city. I made sure that there was air conditioning so that the windows could be shut at night for undisturbed rest. HOWEVER, even though the street was mostly pedestrian, the foot traffic continued until 3 & 4 am, the noise bounced off the buildings, AND the air conditioning couldn't be turned on until the end of May. A good night's rest was impossible. Hotels should inform clients of restrictions on AC use. Other than the noise and little sleep, the hotel was nice.

Our first visit to Rome. The hotel is delightful and as described. It is well located near to campo di fiori.(3 minutes on foot) 25 minutes walk from the Vatican and 10 minutes on foot to piazza navona. Breakfast served from 7:30 not 7:00 as described. Ciampino airport transfer was arranged for us on departure, (in a Lancia Limosine)for €52. It was excellent, but not as quick or exciting as the trip in from the airport in a beat up Fiat estate which lacked air-con, and cost €65 from the taxi rank at the airport.

This is a great place by Rome standards. It's on a quiet street and very close to Campo Di Fiori. The front desk staff was warm, welcoming and very eager to help. I've stayed at many other hotels in Rome over the years and I would definately return here above all next time. However, I wish the Italians would realize that a soft bed would be better than a piece of slate to sleep on; every hotel on this trip (Rome, Siena and Venice) had beds that left me with a back ache (but that's not unusual in Italy)!

My first initial impressions upon arriving at Hotel Residenza in Farnese were somewhat disappointing. Given the price we paid and the fact that this Hotel is a 4 star Hotel I expected something much better. The property is rather dated and the whole place needs a generally facelift and redecoration. Rooms and bathrooms are clean but again bathrooms need to be changed altogether as they have seen better days. Breakfast is a good buffet type, nothing exceptional and no warm food available. You have to pay extra for that and the prices are exorbitant. Location is very good with Piazza Navona very close by and also just a short walk to Trastevere. All in all this is a comfortable Hotel though definitely not up to 4 star standard.

Very comfortable hotel in a perfect situation, close to the center and close to Trastevere. So we easily could walk around for sightseeing and shopping. We had a nice, very clean room, even if it was not too big, but the view to the garden with the palm tree was wonderful and it was very quiet. The bathroom - with a window - was a bit small but with everything in you need. The air condition worked perfectly during these hot summer days. The employees were very friendly and helpfull. The breakfast buffet was delicious with a big selection - even fresh fruit salad. So it was a wonderful stay and we will for sure come again next time we are in Rome.

This was my tenth time in Rome - having stayed in a variety of hotels (I bring school trips - but this time it was the in-laws). This is the first time I have ever filled in a form because I felt I had to comment. It was the best stay I have had, largely due to the hotel. The location is outstanding - close enough to the centre and sights, yet in a location which is quiet and peaceful. The rooms were not huge, but they were clean and well-kept. The high point of the hotel was the staff who were informative, attentive, freindly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.

A delightful hotel in a quiet street just south of Campo di Fiori. It was welcoming, comfortable, clean and very well located for sightseeing by foot. Although the walls are a little thin (!) we would defintely use Residenza in Farnese again for future short breaks to Rome. Thank you!

A lovely gem of a hotel just off Piazza Farnese on a fairly quiet street, especially considering that it is only a few blocks from Campo dei Fiori. Rooms on the upper floors in the front have a view into the garden of the P. Farnese, beautiful in spring. The rooms are not huge, but are large by Rome standards, and very clean and comfortable. Front desk staff is helpful and polite, breakfast is very good. It was a haven after the transatlantic overnight flight! Highly recommended.

It looks like a *** hotel. Bar poor, fridge in the room poor, service very poor (I did not have toilet paper and there was only one person serving at the hotel, thus he could not leave reception). Breakfast poor. Location excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The location was excellent close to the Campo de Fiori and Piazza de Navona, so there were many restaurants to choose from and away from all of the "touristy" hustle and bustle of the Coloseeum area. Yes the rooms were small (even by European standards) but since i was traveling alone and didn't spend that much time in my room that was not a problem. Very friendly staff and quiet surrondings. I would highly recommend and would definitely stay there again.

The location of the hotel was great--very close to the River. Staff was pleasant and helpful. The shower was perfect and the beds comfortable. I thought the room was overpriced compared to a room we had not far from the main train station. However, I don't have anything else to compare it to.

We have stayed at this hotel twice now, and it is great. We have spent a total of 7 nights in Rome at the hotel, and the staff is excellent. Last time, in September, the airlines lost our luggage, and the staff was instramental in getting it back. We will stay here again in 07. We highly recommend.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Residenza. It was our last few nights in Rome so we felt that we could splurge. It was worth every penny. The staff was friendly, breakfast was delicious and the location was perfect. The rooms are extremely spacious for hotels in Rome. We plan on going back. It was the perfect end to a wonderful Roman holiday.

Perfect location and the breakfast was fantastic. The rooms were larger than I expected, but not huge. It was a bit old and could use a bit of renovation, but not so bad that I wouldn't stay there, though if it were less expensive, I would be more inclined to stay again. My room did not have an alarm clock, nor did it have much in the way of natural light (the few windows were near the ceiling). Also, the beds could have been more cushioning if they were made of brick...

We thought this hotel was in an excellent location and we were able to visit all the wonderful sites of Rome on foot! Our only critism would be the absence of a hot drinks facility on our very late arrival at the hotel. Having said that we would definitely choose to stay in this lovely hotel again.

The beakfast was too poor. I can not understand why, in the country of oranges (wo die Orangen blühen) there is not fresh orangejuice on the breakfast buffet.

We stayed 2 nights at this great little hotel before leaving on a cruise. We wanted to see as much as possible and it was perfect as it is in the heart of everything in Rome. The room and bath are small as to be expected (it's Europe), but totally adequate. Very clean. Our view from the 4th floor front was overlooking the tiny little street and the Plazzo Farnese rear gardens (the palace Farnese was really lovely). The staff were great and always helpful in calling taxis, giving directions, or recommendations for good places to eat, whatever we needed. The piazza Farnese and Campo dei Fiori were a great experience with little shops, cafes and the market which sets up daily in the Campo. This is a residential neighborhood, off the busy streets and full of locals. The area is very safe (as it was just my adult daughter and myself), and everyone was very friendly and helpful. We just returned from our trip and since it was in the Fall there were not the crowds one would find during the summer months. But the piazza and Campo dei Fiori are a popular area so there was a bit of noise from people leaving the area late at night, so if one would not want that they should ask for a room away from the front little street. We loved it and would definitely return there again.

We were a group of 4 adult couples staying in Tuscany for 3weeks, and traveling various cities in Italy. Rome was our last stop, and Resedenza Farnese was a disappointment, the employees were not as friendly as other hotels we stayed in, and some were not able to speak English. The rooms appeared a litle smaller than in the pictures, but the breakfast was superb ans the room was a european delight. The overall location of the hotel was very nice, right at the end of the ciampo del fiori. All in all I would not return to this hotel a little pricey for what we were used to.

The Hotel is ideally situated in a very quiet area within easy commute to all Rome attractions. The staff are very competant and have excellent English (plus probably other languages too)Our room was wonderful, large and airy with excellent ensuite facilities. Breakfast was ample and delicious. There are many good restaurants and coffee bars within easy walking distance and the daily market in Campo de'Fiori (Field of Flowers)(150 metres from hotel)is not to be missed. As well, you can stroll along the banks of the Tiber for your evening constitutional. Highly recommended as a base for your Rome adventure.

The hotel is perfectly situated for exploring the historic centre of Rome on foot - and Trastevere too is within a short walking distance. The staff were excellent: very kind, helpful and efficient.

I was pleased with this hotel. The location is great. Walking distance to almost all sites. The room we had was somewhat small but it did have a king size bed. We returned after our cruise and was given a much larger room, but not as quiet. There were no porters to help with all our luggage, and this was disturbing, because we are not young pups, and it took three trip on the eleavator because the eleavator was so small. But, it is Italy, and we really enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this hotel. They try their best to please. The breakfast is strictly continental, but you can get for a price what you desire. I thought the price was high, but everything in Rome is expensive. I would return to this hotel, if for no other reason, it's location.

This was my second time to Rome and I thought the accomodations this time were very good. We chose this hotel on the recommendation of some friends. The staff were very helpful, courteous and respectful. The rooms were clean and comfortable although you could hear the folks in the neighboring room talking when the bathroom door was open. The location was conveniently within walking distance to all the main downtown sites.

The Staff here is remarkable, friendly and very helpful. You need a Navigator if you are renting a car to find the hotel...it is not easy to find. It's location is great to see all the sights in the area, as well as reaching night life by foot.
