Very good family run hotel. Staff was pleasant and responsive to details. Within walking distance from train station - 15 min. Quiet area. Excellent continental breakfast. Secure hotel and within walking distance to many restaurants, cafes and a grocery store.

The Hotel is located behind the train station area and is notorious for pick-pockets. You have to stand outside and ring a bell to gain access to the hotel. The rooms were clean and spacious, however there was no electricity in the bathroom, nor a mirror in the bedroom. The "city tax" amount of 4 Euro per night was not mentioned anywhere until check-out. I would not recommend this place!

The entrance to the hotel is truly different from other ordinary hotel as the metal gate is lock and heavy. However, the security the hotel has is very good. As Rome is some times labelled as a dangerous area where we need to alert about pick pockets, the deposit box in the room has come in handy.

This is a basic hotel, good for a night or two and probably for younger travellers and singles. It is very secure, with an outer door that can only be opened by buzzer from the hotel. The room, while clean, was a bit small for two mature people with luggage. The owners were warm and welcoming and very helpful with suggestions, though do skip the meal at the Tempio di Minerva - there are many better places to eat. The hotel is in the middle of Rome's Chinatown and there isn't much to see or do in the area. However, public transportation is readily available and it's quite easy to get anywhere from the hotel. I would probably not return to the hotel, not because of anything negative, but because, being an older traveller, I would appreciate a bit more luxury.

A very nice hotel and very good price-quality relationship. Personnel is very nice. The zone is not nice and may look scary but it is just all right and you can even walk around at night. The front door does not look as a hotel at all and you may be even a little scared when you get there: do not. Location is good (not awesome, just good): hotel is very near to the subway so that is comfortable. However, Rome is an inconvenient city regarding to mass transit because all public transport ends 12:30 AM so you have to talk that into account. If you do, you will have a good time for sure.

we stayed for 4 days and 3 nights, room 9, aircondition is poor, just a blower, once you open the window, noise from the street will keep you awake. my children suffered from mosquito bites. my friends stayed same hotel but different room, romm 1, quiet, airconditon working perfectly. Breakfast is ok, not great, still a thumbs up.

Staff is kind and helpful. Hotel is near Termini and bus+tram stop is in front of hotel. The windows protect sufficiently against noise from street. The breakfast is not extraordinary: lukewarm container coffee, bread from the day before, no fresh juice or fruit. But after all, you do not go to Rome in order to get a nice breakfast and you can easily find good espresso or cappucino in the bars.

Price is a bit expensive knowing that there are some other hotels which are near to some tourist spots offering the same price. Breakfast is ok. Cleanliness is superb. The only problem is that staffs doesn't talk english much, had difficulty in communicating with them. But, if i'm visiting rome again, i would love to stay in this hotel.

Hotel Principe Eugenio fit our needs perfectly. It is not fancy, but offers a good location within walking distance to the metro and is reasonably close to other major sites. It was clean and the staff was very helpful. We enjoyed our breakfast especially the offer of a fresh capuccino. I'd recommend it for a middle class budget.

I was happy to stay in Principe Eugenio, except maybe two things. First, information about coming from Champino airport by subway was in the very end of description, so we traveled to Termini station instead of Manzoni which is close to hotel. Second, breakfast is good but every morning the same; we spent 7 nights here, and were little bit tired of eating the same. Overall impression is good, many thanks.

The neighbourhood around the hotel looked quite rough when we arrived on a public holiday, with stores shuttered and closed, and a lot of graffiti. Although there is a large HOTEL sign beside the entrance to the hotel, the entrance itself was neither well marked nor inviting, consisting as it does of locked metal gates. However as soon as we pressed button #4 we were buzzed in. We dragged our cases up a short flight of stairs to a tiny elevator where we were assisted to get our cases up to the first floor, where the door to the hotel was open for us. We were warmly welcomed by the couple who run the hotel and shown our room. We very quickly discovered that the WiFi signal did not work in our room (#12), and it took us a while to persuade the hotel manager that we absolutely needed WiFi. We were given a different room the following morning and the WiFi worked well there. Rooms have a fridge and a safe, a balcony and very good sound-proofing. Breakfasts were quite good, and included choice of hard-boiled eggs, ham and cheese, cereal, juice, teas or coffee. We also discovered the oldest and best gelato emporium in Rome right across the street from the hotel. Overall, the hotel provided good value for money, but the neighbourhood looks rough.

My wife, my friend, and I visited Rome for the first time and are extremely glad that we found the Hotel Principe Eugenio. The biggest problem was being able to get into the gate to the building -- press #4 before 22:30 and #5 after that to have the gate opened for you. Also, the hotel is on the 2nd floor for those interested. The only other real negative was that the noise level outside the window was quite loud, but it is on a busy street sot they can't really help it. Once we got into the hotel, everything was great. It is a "Mom and Pop" style hotel, with caring hosts and a safe feel. The owners are always there and are willing to chat and give advice for places to go, things to see, etc. Also, the price point was more than reasonable for what we received. Three beds, a balcony, internet and a breakfast with meat, bread, cheese, and fruit for 85 Euro a night. We would recommend anybody looking for a hospitable hotel to stay here. Thank you!

Our third stay at this hotel. As on previous visits the staff were friendly and helpful, especially with transport directions. We did find room 1 noisier than others that are further away from the reception and lounge areas. Room 6 would also be affected. Although the neighbourhood is far from sulubrious we always felt safe, and did not experience problems. Although a litle far from some Rome attractions the nearby transport options are frequent and efficient.

This hotel is great, beetwen the price and the location. It's nearly to the Termini station ( 1,4km on the GPS map = 15min walking) but it's very nearly if you go out the station by the other door beside the station, you can catch a half of the way to hotel :). The location it's ok, a supermarket is face the hotel, 1 restaurant is downstair, and one populary ice-cream "Fassi" is 3-4 steps from the hotel. The internet speed is very fast. Break-fast is okay with a small buffet :), but it's comfortable. I've been in a triple room with the balcony, it's very nice. The only inconvenience is that you have to ring the door to enter the hotel, but it's safe :).

There is a supermarket right at the corner so you can purchase water and food there. The hotel manager are an old couple, they are very helpful point out the landmarks and bus routes. The room is spacious and clean!! We got a balcony!!! It's not face the main street but it's still nice to have it!!! We've just returned from a wonderful week in Rome. The hotel is in an excellent location - you can practically go round Rome on foot - and this is what we did several times, especially in the evening. However, there's a bus stop just opposite the hotel, and the main train station , Termini is just a few minutes away. The staff are so helpful and welcoming - they give you a lot of tips on where to go and the best way to visit places. They give you a lot of personal attention which we really appreciated. They can speak English very well. The hotel is clean and breakfast is good: cereal, fresh rolls, different hams, cheese, fruit, tea, coffee and hot chocolate, pastry, nutella and jam. There's a supermarket just opposite the hotel and an excellent ice-cream parlour. WE highly recommend this place and we look forward to staying there again on our next visit to Rome. Michael and Gina (Malta)

Our first time at Principe Eugenio. The access to the hotel is awful. The reception, rooms, and breakfast are excellent. Ideally located and in walking distance of the Colosseum, Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain. Tram service outside the hotel, metro a short walk away, and one of the best ice cream palours in Rome opposite and open late. Very well stocked large supermarket opposite hotel for snacks and drinks. We thought lunch time snacks and drinks in restaurants were mediocre and expensive. Use the restaurants recommended by hotel owners for dinner. All close by. We spent 4 days to see the 'musts' and would recommend a guide for the Vatican City. Read up for the other places. Pack good quality walking shoes for the uneven surfaces.

This is a typical good hotel for someone looking for a good price but does not want to exceed the minimum quality limit. The room and bathroom are simple and clean (though our shower wasn't working so well). Breakfest is fair enough and the staff tries to help you out whenever needed. The downside is definitely the location - although safe, looks a bit dodgy and is somehow far from the main center. If you look forward to only having a good place to sleep for good price, can be a good deal.

It was about 20 min. by foot from the station Termini and even though we arrived almost at midnight we did not feel unsave on our way to the hotel and we got a very warm and friendly welcome.

The owners were exceptionally kind and helpful and saved us lots of time by giving us good directions. The rooms were clean and everything worked, and the breakfast was good. The surroundings are not good, but that is because it is near the train station, which is very convenient in the morning when you have to get to the station and then to the airport. Ignore the surroundings and enjoy the hotel which is perfectly maintained on the inside and whose owners are perfect hosts. The elevator is old but works fine.

As always, using the recommendation of venere.com community I've made an excelent choice. The room was pretty big, with a large balcony, a.c. (very useful for this season), mini-fridge, tv (8 italian, 1 french, only cnn and bbc in english). The owners were very kind and useful in choosing the routes for the main touristic places. Their english isn't quite good, but with pacience you will succeed to understand their explanations. Hotel position is excellent for a person who wants to visit Rome's main attractions (5-10 min from Termini Station, 3 min from a metro station line A, 15 min walking to Colloseum).

Great location within walking distance to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Good access to public transport with 2 metro stations within 5 mins walk, tram and buses stop outside the building. The staff are friendly enough and very helpful with any questions you have. One tip is that if you're not travelling alone and are arriving/departing by air then don't faff around with trains and metro, just get a taxi from the airport which works out to cost about the same for 2 people and saves the hassle of lugging your bags up and down staircases in the metro tunnels in the stuffy heat whilst they perform major renovation of some of the stations (incl. Termini). If you want good cheap food in a relaxed setting then head to the Pizzeria just around the corner from the B&B on viale Manzoni.

The hotel is a short walk from Rome's Termini station with bus & metro stops nearby. Approximately 30 minutes stroll to the Coliseum. The hotel is located on 2 floors of a residential building. My room was located in The Town House (1st floor) I would recommend these rooms for their quietness as they are located at the side of the building. The room was very spacious and only recently decorated. A continental breakfast is provided. The owners whilst they do not speak a lot of English are very helpful with lots of information as to how to reach the major attractions in Rome and went to the trouble to obtain train timetables for me when I was departing. The also recommended a restaurant just around the corner which was good. There is not a huge choice of restaurants/bars in this area. There is also a large supermarket across the road. I would recommend this hotel for its good value in that particular location of Rome.

Triple paned windows made this a quiet room. Very large room--easily double the size of most. Unbelievably helpful staff--I wanted to visit Cosmati pavements and staff arranged detailed bus schedule to get me from one to another. Enjoyed meeting international clientele.

Owner was very helpful. When we arrived he laid out a map and marked it up showing the best bus and metro routes and where the major sites were in connection with these routes. Was helpful in making calls for reservations. Rooms were bigger than expected and real value for this area of town. You could walk to the train station but there are very convenient buses and trams right in front of the hotel. Market right in front of the hotel and the oldest gelato factory in Italy. Several good restaurants in the neighborhood. Would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it to friends. The breakfast was good could use some variation especially for those who stay longer than a couple of days. Bottom line the Hotel was an important part of our enjoyable stay in Rome.

I went to Rome for the New Year's holyday with my wife and stayed at this hotel for 4 days. At first, when I saw the hotel's entrance, which seemed a common apartment's entrance and very old, I thought I would regret for choosing it but despite the entrance, this was the best hotel I stayed in my 12-day travel to Europe. The room was clean, the employees were very receptive and gave us many tips, the towels were changed in a daily basis, the bathroom was in perfect state and the breakfast was simple and served in a little room but really tasty and complete. I dont´have anything that I disapprove in this hotel. The location was also very good, there was a bus station in front of the hotel and the Termini station was some blocks near the hotel. At night we had dinner at a restaurant near the hotel which was chip and also a tip from the hotel's personnel. In front of the hotel there is a supermarket and in the Ne Year we even earned a bottle of champagne from them (the hotel). They were really nice with us!!I reccomend it.

We were there for the first time and almost fully satisfied! Nice and clean room, just shower could be larger, but we do not think it should discourage somebody to stay there. Very close to centre! We understand security needs, so from that it is good that gate is permanently closed, however a little bit misguided many bell rings on gate to choose for right one. We were happy with this hotel.

I had 4 wonderful days and 3 perfect nights with my wife and our 9 mounth young baby in the hotel Principe Eugenio (4.-7 June). The owner and the employees are very very helpfull people. The hotel is very clean and nice and near to the Train Station (Termini). Our room had a balcony with a view to the courtyard/garden with orangetrees. It was realy a perfecte accommodation for us. If we come back to rom, we will book the same hotel. Thank you Hotel-Team ------------- Wir hatten wunderbare Tage in Rom (4.-7.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in May 2010. We had a very good experience. ANNA MARIA was a big help for directions and always offered her services to us. They have one of the best breakfast buffets in Italy, considering that most of the hotels have only cheese, bread, fruit jams and coffee. There is a big supermarket and GELATO store just across this hotel - always the higlight after our daily tour of Rome. There is a bus stop infront of the hotel and a walking distance Metro station. Don't let the hotel's facade scare you, it is very clean and very spacious! We will certainly go back and share our good experience with our family and friends. See you soon!!! ;-)

Excellent value for money. On arrival the owner pointed out places to visit and methods of getting there (bus/tram numbers, where to get on and off etc) - very helpful. Hotel only provides breakfast (made clear when you book) but good selection of restaurants within 5 min walk or take bus to Trastevere. Nearest Metro station is 5 mins walk away and Colisseum is 15 min walk.

A very clean, tiny and cosy hotel. Good location - metro in 4 min walking distance, tram and bus stop in front of the hotel. As a result of the good means of transportation right in front of the hotel and a multi-lane street it was very, very loud in our room, altough it was looking on a one-way side street. It seemed, tram and the honking cars were going right trough it. Nevertheless will stay again (hopefully in a more silent room). A grocery and a really great ice cream shop are on the other side of the street. The hotel staff (an elderly couple) is quite nice and familiar.

I was looking for a clean, value priced hotel in an area in Rome that would allow my wife and I to access it easily from the Termini train station, and be able to walk around most of historic Rome. This place fit the bill perfectly! The room was comfortable, clean, well-equipped, and quiet. Our room had a massive and beautiful private patio attached (though I'm not sure how many other rooms have this feature) that was great for lounging outside and watching the city life. The location was exactly what I was looking for; we saw most of historic Rome and some great restaurants easily with about a 15 minute walk, and it was close to a couple of the metro stations when we wanted to go further (such as the Vatican). The breakfast was in what we found to be the classic Italian style which was actually very tasty and ample. I've seen some complaints about this type of breakfast and wonder how much other people are used to eating. It was great. The couple at the front desk were very warm, helpful and friendly and their dinner recommendations were better than we got from our "Rick Steve's" travel book. This place exceeded my expectations and the price was well within the value range in Rome. One other note; the WiFi there also worked well. Highly recommended if you're looking for a nice "home base" to see historic Rome.

My husband and I travelled to Rome for five days and stayed here for 4 nights. From the outside it looked quite run down and we made the mistake of not ringing the bell (no. 4 before 10.30 and no. 5 after this time so we were banging on the town house door on the floor below reception for a while before we gained entry after I ring the hotel. We could not be seen on security camera so a bit of a mix up. After that the lady who owns the place couldn't be more helpful and when shown to our room on the floor below we were pleasantly surprised to find a modern bright room with everything we needed. Hairdryer, mini fridge, free wi-fi, we needed a password for this but it worked like a dream. Continential breakfast was included and was adequate. Buses and trams stop outside the door and there is a supermarket across the street very handy. Some restaurants about and the metro was a 5 to 8min walk away and was very close to the termini. When we arrived in rome we came out a side door of the termini and could'nt see any buses which were at the front so we took a taxi to hotel (18euros for a 5min journey). It was late at night so we panicked a bit. All in all I was very happy with our choice as we were out all day. I would recommend this hotel as a good place to stay.

The couple running the hotel could not have been nicer and more helpful! The WLAN worked perfectly and when my wife called the reception from Germany and I did not hear the phone in my room, the owner brought his cordless to me - all this without extra charges. There was good international cable TV (German, CNN, French, Italian) and a refrigerator. The bathroom was recently renovated and spotless. The mattress was firm ike new. The owner discussed alternative airport transportation with me and did the booking for me. The bus to the train station stoped in front of the hotel. A supermarket was across the street.A fine local park was also nearby.

The location is very convenient and the rooms are very clean an nice. It's quiet too and there are almost no young people staying there. You have to ring the bell every time you want to get inside the building which is ok if you don't intend to stay out late. Otherwise you feel kind of guilty to wake up someone that late. nevertheless, I would definitly stay there again !!

We ended our travels in Rome and were looking for something a little nicer that wouldn't break the bank. This hotel fit the bill. It was great to have wireless and breakfast (and our own shower)! I thought the area was fine, but I live in NYC so areas that might look unsafe to people who don't live in a city might find it discomforting. We had no problem getting around to see everything and it was nice to have the train station so close. The hotel staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and even arranged for a cab for us when we had to leave very early to catch a flight. I would definitely go back.

The hotel is in a pretty decent area. Near the train station, and has bus stops right outside. Of all the hotels I went to in Italy, this was only 1 of 2 that provide free internet access so that you can check e-mail and look for your next thing to do. My family and I felt that the breakfast was really good, but we aren't overly picky. Overall, this was the first hotel we stayed at over a 2 week trip, and it kind of spoiled us. We kept referring to it throughout the trip. Bathrooms are a nice size, beds are hard (as all beds in Italy), and location was good for the women to go shopping. There is also a grocery store right on the corner for good buys on items you may need.
